The ultimate conspiracy begins... W.A. Harbinson started to uncover the nightmarish truth about Unidentified Flying Objects (UFOs) in the research for his bestseller GENESIS. Now, he has taken that groundbreaking work and expanded it, going back decades to create another astounding epic. INCEPTION is a terrifying story based on documented historical fact that reveals what is really known about UFOs while holding its readers spellbound with a breathtaking thriller about organized evil, global conspiracy - and the secret future of our world... INCEPTION - THE FIRST BOOK OF THE EPIC PROJEKT SAUCER SERIES. 'A Herculean conspiracy epic... superbly written, crammed with food for thought.' -Los Angeles Times
Years ago, I read Genesis, by the same author, and at the time I loved it. A mashup of 20th century history with UFO lore, it was a seductive combination and literally ate a weekend in 1981. I had free access to Inception, a retrofitted first volume of a five volume series, through a trial subscription to Amazon Prime and thought I'd give it a try.
The concept is that an evil genius in the early 20th C. developed flying saucer technology, which he and the Nazis perfected. This would normally be irresistible, but the writing was so poor, the characters so one-dimensional that it simply ran out of gas halfway through. I dread the thought of rereading Genesis, for fear that it might suffer the same fate, so I think I'll just let the memory be what it is.
It's a pity, as A.E. Harbinson OWNS this concept. I would love to either see him get a good editor and rewrite the whole thing, or have someone else take it up, as it could be an amazing epic.
I read this book after I re-read Genesis, which I had always considered the best UFO book. I am booked on this series and can't wait to read book two. I have been enthusiasticly recommending Genesis for many years, now I can recommend the series.
When I saw this in the bookstore, it was filed with the non-fiction UFO books. The blurb on the back even makes it sound like it's nonfiction. However, it's really historical fiction, which disappointed me slightly, but I liked the way he put everything together.
WOW. what an amazing book. great story. loved the characters. sat straight down with the second one in the series. so very glad that I have the following 3 as I would hate to have to wait!
You'll have to get passed Harbinson's excessive use of adverbs, bland verbs (had) and the constant fiddling Heinrich Himmler is said to always be doing with his pince-nez spectacles. Plus, lots of dialogue doesn't flow well as Harbinson takes numerous opportunities to tell the reader some history using characters in conversation. But it comes of very unrealistic conversations. I kept thinking, people don't talk like this.
Anyhow, writey nit-pickery aside, I love the story. It's why I gave it five stars. Ever since reading Renato Vesco's, "Intercept UFO" early 1990s, I've always liked the Nazi UFO theory (even if it isn't real history). I also read Harbinson's "Genesis" back then. And now I'm working my way through all six books in his Projekt Saucer series. If you're a UFO buff, you won't be disappointed. I'd recommend this volume also to those having an interest in WWII.
I was so excited to find the trilogy of Projekt Saucer after having read book 3 Genesis 25+ years ago. WA Harbinson is the master of the edge of your seat, believable science fiction. Still gives me goosebumps. Can't wait to read book 2 Phoenix and re-read book 3 Genesis. They have been out of print for many years..so happy to have found them. Now will start my ques to find books 4 & 5 Millennium and Ressurection!
