There's a snowstorm barrelling down on Seattle, and Heather's committed to being at her cousin's party on the other side of the mountains. When a sexy man from her past offers her a ride, she only briefly questions her sanity before accepting.
Tony has never forgotten Heather, or their brief encounter at a party over the summer. Back then she was dating his co-worker, but now that's she single he's not about to let her walk out of his life again. If driving her over a mountain pass is what it'll take to win her over, he's sure as hell going to give it a try.
Even with the temperature outside falling, it isn't long before things inside the car start heating up.
Shelli is a New York Times and USA Today Bestselling Author who read her first romance novel when she snatched it off her mother’s bookshelf at the age of eleven. She is a true pluviophile (lover of rain) who currently lives in the Pacific Northwest with her husband and two daughters. She loves Disney, taking sunset pics (follow her on Instagram), baking, nature walking, and spontaneously bursting into song. She’s written various genres of romance, but is most known for her contemporary series such as The McLaughlins, The Bro Code, Marshall Ranch, and A is for Alpha.
It's the Saturday before Christmas, and Heather has just closed up her hair salon when she runs into Quinton, her ex-boyfriend's cousin. He offers her a ride and, before he knows what's going on, he agrees to drive her to her cousin's party in Peppertown, which is... 3 hours away! That's not what he had in mind when he offered her a ride but, hey, he's game. What happens on their way to her cousin's home in the mountains is, well, combustible...
This is a very short story and everything happens in the span of a few hours, so readers shouldn't expect anything "complex" here. But it's a fun and hot read with nice characters. Plus, it's a freebie! :)
Reviewed for THC Reviews Baby It's Cold Outside is a scorching little 12-page erotic “quickie.” It was super hot without being kinky, but definitely mostly about the sex. I'm usually not a fan of hook-up-now, ask-questions-later romances, and even though Quinton and Heather had briefly met a few months before, they were still virtual strangers. I may not have been entirely comfortable with the set-up for the story, but I did find it to be surprisingly enjoyable in spite of that. It might have been the sizzling love scene combined with the stranded in a snowstorm theme which I typically like. I also think I gave the author a little bit of slack since this was such a short novella, whereas I would have expected a lot more from a full-length novel. Or perhaps I was just in the right mood for it at the right time. Whatever the reasons, it turned out to be a fun, steamy little read. This was my first story by Shelli Stevens, and it has certainly left me open to trying more of her works, which is good since I already have a couple of them on my TBR list. According to Ms. Stevens' website this is the third in her Seattle Steam series, which I didn't know until after reading it. I'm not sure if Quinton or Heather appeared in the earlier books, but Heather is the cousin of Christy from book #2, Tempting Adam. She and Adam make a brief appearance at the end of the story. Baby It's Cold Outside is available as a free download from Samhaim Publishing and the author's website.
This was a hot little freebie (available on the Samhain website) by an author who knows how to steam up the pages. Twelve short pages are not a lot to work with, so Ms. Stevens has to get right down to it to work that sex scene in. It would've been nice if the H/h had more of a previous relationship than "I noticed you at that party a couple of months ago"...but what the heck, the heroine was feeling rather frisky, and the hero was not about to turn down the chance to be with her, even if it was in a car on the side of the road...during a rare Seattle snowstorm. Heather, our salon owner heroine, was on her way to her cousin Christy's (Tempting Adam) house for a Christmas party--it was nice to catch up with her and her new husband Adam again. It was also nice to see that Quinton, our lawyer hero, was interested enough in Heather to want a long term relationship, so maybe these two will pop up again in a future book? This is a hard one to rate because there's not much development of the characters or plot, but I have to give it at least a 4 for the hot sex scene and some risque dialogue.
This random hairstylist is ready to close up her shop so she can drive like four hours away in the snow to a Christmas party at her cousin's house. She's outside trying to get a taxi, and this stalker comes up and opens the door, offering to drive her FOUR hours to a party. He says he saw her at some other party, when she was still with her ex-boyfriend, and he wanted to get to know her better.
So, she gets in the car with this stalker and they drive through the snow, listening to Christmas music. She hears "All I Want for Christmas is You" and decides, after estimating the length of his penis, that she wants to have sex with this man.
One thing leads to another and the couple pulls over on the side of the road to have kinky sex in the car. The radio is playing "Santa Claus is coming to town" and hairstylist says Santa isn't the only one coming. Gross.
Hairstylist and stalker get to the cousin's house, where the cousin advises that she should keep stalker around because he seems nice. (Oh yes, for real.) Hairstylist admits they had sex on the side of the road, but that she barely knows the man. So cousin gives them a room where they can get to know one another better, since they're now conveniently snowed in.
Dear me, my eyebrows are so raised they're about to merge with my hairline. I'm laughing in a slightly ashamed way. I can't decide whether either is a good sign.
I would like to question a few vaguely related things: Does anyone really use the word "boinking"? Why do so many heroines feel the need to slut shame themselves? Why does the heroine need to get a taxi home if she has a car (as implied by 'saving gas money')? If you could name your characters anything would you call them Barry and Tony? Why do romance heroes always have monster penises? Why do the heroines have orgasms on demand? And why the hell would you think it was a good idea to take your eyes off the road to exchange heated glances at any point, but especially while driving through a snowstorm?
Okay, I'm usually to suspend my disbelief for romance novels, but I just couldn't with this one. The part where he chased her down the street and grabbed her arm because she wouldn't accept a ride from him (a person that she met several months ago very briefly at a party) really creeped me out. The fact that she eventually said yes (after he backpedaled and said that it's probably not a good idea for her to get in a car with a stranger) and then said that she liked to live on the dangerous side creeped me out even more. Maybe I just need to stop watching Dateline, lol.
This was a cute story but way to short. And I struggled with the concept that he happens to run into her as she's leaving her shop and then they have sex on the side of the road in a blizzard after being in each other's company for an hour or so and this is the basis for a solid, meaningful relationship. I guess it's no different than any one night stand, but it just felt off. That said, it's written well, and I enjoyed reading it.
this story was like Purdy, blink and you'll miss it. do keep in mind that I am notoriously picky when it comes to romance short stories. and this was really really really short. shorter than I was expecting. by a lot. I'd probably enjoy something full length from the author (and my inner twelve year olds pervert just started giggle snorting at my word choice), but this was a miss for me.
Heather is going to a family party over the mountain pass and can't get a cab, lucky her Tony (her ex's coworker who has been hot for her forever) see her and stops to offer a ride. She takes it and he drives her. They just get there before they close the pass for snow. They are both stuck at her cousins until they reopen the pass. HOT and STEAMY. Nice HEA
A VERY, VERY, VERY SHORT READ. SO SHORT IT HAD SOME BUT A VERY SMALL TIME FOR CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT. EVEN THOUGH IS WAS A SHORT BOOK IT WAS WELL DONE. AMAZING HOT SEX SCENE IT WAS ON POINT WITH TODAYS SOCIETY HABITS. WOW!!! WHAT EVER FLOATS YA' BOAT!
Too short to get involved with the characters and not dirty enough to be a quick smutty read. When it's over you're left feeling like you just read a sample of a complete story.
