Poetry. THE KENTUCKY RULES is this independent-rock poet's second book, again with synergistic illustrations by her girlfriend and bandmate, Tara Jane O'Neil. Nelson and O'Neil's RAVEN DAYS enjoyed critical praise. Nelson's work reflects an immediacy gleaned from various alternative scenes. She and Tara starred in the independent film HALF-COCKED presently being distributed by Matador. Retsin, as well as Cynthia's New York rock group Ruby Falls, have released numerous records. "to whine is not to feel better / cognac warms her throat to excess / she longs to be the zombie of the day" ("waiting").
