Theia Pearson is an attorney who specialises in helping abused women - she has personal experience having been married to a man who tried to kill her, shooting her twice.
As a result she has sworn off men. Which, of course, has her falling hard for almost the first man she meets.
As she helps to search for woman who has been beaten and abducted it turns out that Theia's dead husband ... isn't. Gimme a break!
"Not Dead Yet" has all the elements of a good book but is a bit of a mess overall. Not even a strong finish is enough to save it from mediocrity.
I've read worse, but not recently.
It reads like a first attempt at fiction and, while at times it is interesting, it just doesn't work.
1.5 Stars, raised to 2 Stars.

A decent thriller

A bit predictable as the story unfolds. It is fairly well written and entertaining. The characters are only so - memorable. Overall a decent read.

not dead yet

This was a really well told story. It’s just sad that these things happen to women and men. I enjoyed the HEA ending.

1 star is even to good for this book. I am sure the author had great intentions and really wanted to tell a story about redemption and strength but it failed on so many levels. Spoilers! - 1. So the policeman shot him in the thigh and in the temple but yet he lived and was able to drain the blood from another guy so he could swap identities and then when figured out no one called her to let her know that he was still alive??? 2. She tells Jack what happened and goes through all of it because he is a security guy so he needs to know how to help and he has just met her so he kisses her after the story? 3. "Vat a nice boy" in a Yiddish accent this is the first and only time she does something like this. For a professional who has no background in Yiddish this is stupid. 4. So a policeman shoots Foster but then interrogates her family acting as if Theia did the shooting even though there were witness. 5. After Theia's house is ransacked they call the cops and they are told to come back so they come back and the police say "Police scene, stay out" Theia says "I live here" then the police say "Oh, thats different. Why are you bringing cats into this mess" how freaking stupid are these police officers. So I lie and say I live here??? 6. Foster tells Theia that someone sold her out and that is why he was able to find her but that never gets resolved so she goes back to work and who knows who sold her out. 7. At the end of the book Theia is in court with another wife who has been beaten and this woman stands up for herself and states that she wants to go through with the protection order but then for some weird reason just yells out "You're fired" to her husband. This book had lack of character, lack of story and it was all in all just plain horrible. I am so glad I got this for free.

Theia Pearson is a lawyer that works with abused women, something she has direct knowledge of, having survived a husband that verbally abused her, then shot her twice after the divorce. The police killed him as he stood over her.

She has a client that bails in the adult abuse court hearing, to terrified to testify against him. Tneia had done all she could for the woman and put it aside to go to another.

A call late that night from the woman, then hearing the husband caching her and beating her over the phone gets her involved once more. The cops find the home empty, signs of violence everywhere, And blood. But no one home.

The whole thing brings the nightmares back of her own husband.

Then the phone calls start. Demanding she come to so and so if she wants to rescue her client. No police or else!

It's all leading to something else as Theia recruits a friend to help. And the friend's brother who's had military training and works for a private security firm.

Nice, engaging thriller as the three pursue the homicidal husband in an effort to save the man's wife. A twist halfway through sends them into something else.

Recommended highly.

Great book and very inspiring for a person who is going through a personal divorce where there has been abuse. Gave me lots of strength and there are many parallels with Theia and Rosemary. I have horrible night terrors and nightmares, not as bad as Theia and Rosemary; but a broken nose and scar from years ago. Emotional and verbal abuse and very controlling Damned if you do and damned if you don't! PTSD from from broken axle car wreck where the truck flipped 7 times (counted by convoy of cars behind me. Smash left arm and pelvis, broken ribs, internal hemorrhaging. I felt my Mom's spirit holding me so that I would not die, my kid sister held on to my dog. And my Father and Aunt were in the back seat making sure no one else was hurt. What a mess, very traumatized. And beat cancer! So, I'm "Not Dead Yet" was a real treat for me to get for free from my Amazon Kindle! Wonderful book.

I'd give this book 1.5 stars for the writing and 3 stars for an interesting story line that held my interest. I finished this story in only a handful of sittings and didn't have to force myself to read it. I genuinely wanted to know what would happen, even though the writing was a bit painful at times. The flow didn't seem "effortless", the dialogue was awkward and even unnatural on occasion, the word choice fell short frequently. For those wannabe writers among us, it was educational, in that there are some of those "what not to do" lessons.

I also didn't care much for the characters.

BUT there are also so good lessons to be learned here about tension and plot. And having overcome the writing challenges to deliver a story that holds the reader's attention is a pretty good feat.

I was annoyed that we never learned who Theia's "Judas" was. Unless I'm supposed to gather that Foster was bluffing?

The plot of this book had some potential even if you knew where it was going to take you. I was disappointed because there was not much character development or depth to the story. The characters were not very likable. I did finish the book but really had to plod through it to get to the end.

The book was very interesting. Although I had figured out part of it, there were still some exciting twists and turns. I really enjoyed it.

This was a free reads book. I was not particularly impressed. I could tell where the story was going. There were no surprises. Needs better editing.
