Blood Hunters #2

Blood of Angels

A wounded hunter’s obsession with a damaged vampire...

Six months ago, vampire hunter and inventive genius István nearly died in the seminal battle that would change the relationship between humans and vampires forever.

A year before that, he first encountered sexy vampiress, Angyalka, owner of the Angel Club, favored haunt of the undead. István won that round, but when he recklessly seeks her out again in search of the secret of angels, he's alone and so exhausted he can barely stand, let alone fight vampires. Plus Angyalka's out for revenge, and very happy to use his powerful sexual attraction to her…

But Angyalka has her own secret weaknesses - whoever heard of an agoraphobic vampire? - as well as terrifying strengths even she doesn't understand. Their battle becomes one of wits and sex, but when someone bombs the club, they fight together to contain all the threats closing in on the Angel, from humans and vampires, including the sadistic killer who could just be dangerous enough to finally topple undead overlord Saloman.

As István struggles to harness the mysterious power of angels, Angyalka needs a deeper strength to send away the fascinating hunter who delivers on all her deepest sensual desires and yet can't come to terms with her vampire nature.

Blood of the Angels was a welcome return to some of the Awakened's glory. If it did not reach it, it's (IMHO) because it was definitely focused on the romance, rather than on a more UF-theme like the trilogy was. But the story was a clear improvement on the first blood hunter book. Here the characters were way more interesting and the story did move forward. Moreover both leads were exactly as they were imagined in the previous books. There's just one nit I have and it's related on how simply the hero fell for the enemy's trap.

If I give it a "mere" three star, it just because I have a neat preference toward stories rather than simple couples. So, even if I liked Blood of Angels, it didn't rock my world. It's a sweet love story that talks of understanding each other and overcoming one's fear. There's an "external" plot regarding some vampires ready to challenge Salomon's rule, but as often happen in romance it is just the dish on which the food is served. It isn't really part of the recipe.

Claro, it is difficult to be compared to Elizabeth and Salomon :D

While I enjoyed the first book more this one was still enjoyable enough to make me want to continue the series. The characters, some of whom were introduced in the first book, get expanded on so that they take on a new dimension. I was drawn in more quickly this time because I was familiar with who they were and what was going on with the mains. The setting is maybe not exotic but it is very different and makes the players more interesting because of their location. The language works for the vampires and the humans as they banter.

Eighteen months ago István went to the Angel and got on the bad side of its owner Angyalka, who just happens to be a vampire, when he and a group of hunters went there trying to capture Saloman. Not long after this fiasco István was very badly injured in a fight at the hunter library which left him semi paralyzed with little hope. But he and his fellow hunters were saved by Saloman and so began their alliance with the enemy. He has recovered and is now on his feet once again and creating his electronic marvels again.

István returns to the Angel supposedly to research how to store psychic energy. He believes that Angyalka can help him with this even though she is not very old but appears to be very powerful. Angyalka has not forgotten the hunter who humiliated her in front of her patrons and is looking for some payback. What they find is that two people can sometimes come together over their mutual short comings even when they fight it.

I like the idea behind an alliance between vampires and those who have traditionally hunted them. You get to see both sides, those who are for cooperation and those who would like to see a war between them. The two sides are going to be clashing more and more as things progress. This was just a taste of how the sides can get along if they stop seeing each other as so different. The sex is hot but not over the top and appropriate for what is going on. I would recommend.

Blood of Angels is book #2 in the Blood Hunters series. It takes us on a journey of personal discovery, scientific discovery and, did I mention vampire sex?

No?

Well, there was so much unbridled lust and longing shared between Istvan and Angyalka I thought they might spontaneously combust!

Where the romance complimented the story and action in book 1, in this instalment it trampled all over the action and squashed any attempt at a storyline.

The climax (no, not Angyalka's or Istvan's) was over so quickly, the baddies defeated with minimal effort and the ending too 'happy families' it made me want to poke my eyes out in disgust.

After a promising start to the series, this book has really dropped the ball. The saving grace, and the only reason I will continue to read this series is Max, Robbie and Mihaela.

One thing I noticed:

29% - Mikl?s (I'm guessing there's a name with a special character. It repeats throughout the page the same)

**Note: I was provided an electronic copy of the book through NetGalley in return for an honest review**

Istvan is a vampire hunter and a brilliant inventor. Now that he is recovering from an injury which almost killed him, Istvan finds that he has time on his hands to explore ideas he has been tinkering with for awhile. Istvan begins to wonder about the power of angels and this leads him to the beautiful but agoraphobic Angyalka. Before they know it, they are caught up in a torrid love affair. Unfortunately for them both, the new alliance between vampires and humans is about to be tested. Can their love survive the hatred on both sides?

I like that Angyalka and Istvan take their time getting to know each other and don't immediately declare HAE after knowing each other for a scant amount of time. They both are unsure of where their relationship is going and are highly cognizant of the differences between them. This adds tension to their interactions. Angyalka is unapologetically sexual and her concerns have to do with Istivan's status as a hunter, rather than any concern about her virtue. There was however a strong element of prescribed gender with Istivan feeling the need to dominate Angyalka sexually because she is physically stronger than him. For the relationship to work, Angyalka had to be made to feel helpless by Istivan and I find that gender dynamic to be problematic.

Like any paranormal romance book, Blood of Angels follows the standard script. Boy meets girl and there is instant attraction but distrust. They share a relationship based in lust but then have a misunderstanding and fall apart, only to be reunited by the very same conflict. Of course this leads them to a HAE. There is absolutely nothing original about this story and the characters themselves are card board cut outs.

Blood of Angels does fixate on the romance between Istvan and Angyalka; however, there is an ongoing narrative with the other characters in the series. Elizabeth's pregnancy continues to be a primary concern and the child is referred to as the most important child since Christ. We see that Saloman has solidified his vampire base, even though both humans and vampires are uneasy about this truce. I wish that Treanor would slightly expand her world and give more focus on the politics. The mystical pregnancy alone is not great enough to provide the ongoing world building that this series needs.

Istvan is the male love interest in this story and I have a lot of problems with his character. When we first met him in Blood Guilt, he was still struggling to get out of a wheel chair. By the time that Blood of Angels happens, he is moving well, if not always pain free. As the book continues, Istivan gets more and more of his mobility back thanks to magical healing on the part of Elizabeth and of course the power of love through his relationship with Angyalka. It is absolutely inappropriate and disableist to have a character living with disabilities magically cured. This is especially true because a large part of the story is fixated on hyper able vampires. Angyalka is a vampire with an invisible disability because of her agoraphobia but she too quickly overcomes this disability. She doesn't need any form of counseling; just love. This means that Blood of Angels has two disabled characters who all too easily overcome the limitations of disability. It makes me wonder why Treanor made them disabled in the first place.

Blood of Angels. (Book Two of the Blood Hunters Series). Marie Treanor
Review from Jeannie Zelos Book reviews.
Well, its on to book two – as I said before I've not read the Awakened by Blood trilogy but that hasn't stopped me from following and loving this series. I do think for best enjoyment you need to start with book one of this group though. Once again the sex is hot, sensual, erotic and very well written. Its not sex in the story just for titillation, but its integral to the story and fits the characters so well. ( and makes for some spicy, enjoyable reading )
So Istvan; we met him briefly in book one, and this book focusses on him. I liked him, he's been a Hunter for many years now, having joined like so many of them, being recruited after a horrific vampire encounter. He's got such an enquiring mind though that he can see the possibilities in the new collaboration between vampires and humans, and he's always looking at all sides to a story. Maybe that’s come from his scientific bent, he's always looking at things with the view to seeing alternative uses, or how they can be adapted and this could be a spillover from that. Whatever – I really liked him as a character. Though he's been brought up to hate/distrust vamps he's learning that they are just like humans, some good some bad. He's been obsessed though with vampire Angyalka since their encounter in the big battle of the last series, the one that ended with him being spectacularly injured, nearly died and from which he's finally slowly recovering mobility.
Angyalka has her own thoughts about Istvan, and her own problems too. Though she's regarded as particularly strong, Istvans enquiring mind pushes at her secrets and he discovers some he didn't expect. There’s a sensual attraction between them, an itch they both need to scratch, which once given in to leads to more – but also to problems.
In addition to the Istvan/Angyalka story there's the series overall arc, that of the upcoming vampire/human cooperation and the problems with it. Some vampires are all for it, others against, and as always some just out to see what power they can gain. This time there's a big bad in town, and he's out for Saloman's death and to take his place. Elizabeth too has a secret which places her life in danger, and Istvan is still pursuing his research into enchantments, angels and the secrets contained for so very long, trying to see what he can replicate, and what they can use. Its something that leads to danger. A packed novel full of action, plots ans sub plots.
Again there's a sense of building climax to events, you know as a reader something is coming, but not quite what, and when and who is behind it apart from obvious contenders. There's real danger, clues and red herrings, all leading to a spectacular finish. It was good to meet up briefly with the people from book one, and to meet some new characters too. Another cracking read in /Marie's typical style.
Stars: four and a half.

This one was even better then the first. Istvan almost died in battle and if not for Elizabeth's help he would have been paralyzed for life. Now still just barely walking without being in excruciating pain he is looking of the one who has not escaped his memory. Angyalka is still smarting from that one hunter who managed to over power her, but dammed if it didn't turn her on. Trying to forget about him when he walks in to her bar, The Angel Bar asking questions about enchantments and the power of a name trying to harness the power.

Istvan has an ulterior motives than just asking about the enchantments. Angyalka the beautiful owner of the notorious vampire hang out wants revenge for her humiliation at the hands of Istvan, but when she gets her chance she falls into bed with him instead. Never before has anyone made her feel this way before, but both are uncertain if it is just a short term thing. Then Konrad tries to blow up The Angel Bar and it uses every bit of power Angyalka has to keep it from complete destruction, it also cost the life of one of her friends who was watching the front door. It also drives a bit of a wedge between Istvan and Angyalka.

Another distraction for Angyalka is that it seems that their is an increase of humans acting out of character and becoming violent, and it all comes back to her new art gallery where she shows both local vampire and human artist. A painting has become enchanted to make humans who stare at it belligerent and hateful of vampires. Their also seems to be another vampire in town looking to usurp Saloman. Basilio has arrived from America unsatisfied and determined he can take control of the vampires and return it to the way it was before the awakening of Saloman. They attempt to force Istvan to finish his devise that can absorb the psychic energies vampires use. They plan to use the devise to find Elizabeth and use her to defeat Saloman. Needless to say they greatly underestimate the power of vampire and hunters combined power.

Istvan and Angyalka make a stunning couple even if at the beginning they are both to stubborn to admit their feelings run deeper then they know. A highly erotic encounter between the two is just the start of things to come. Angyalka who hasn't left the club in years has become agoraphobic and only with Istvan can she concur her fear. The power of a name becomes extraordinary when Istvan healing increases after being with Angyalka. This is a great second book and am enjoying the series so far.

Fluttering Thoughts:
Worldbuilding: I loved the blend of paranormal elements – vampires, magic, hunters – and the settings of the novel, especially the Angel Club.
Characters: Angyalka was one of the characters I remember since I read the first novel in this series – Blood Guilt, like a year and a half ago. Something about her and her club stuck with me, and I was thrilled to read about her again. She’s the perfect blend of powerful, kickass, vulnerable and charismatic. I was thrilled with the changes she went through during Blood of Angels and she deserved to get her happy for now, if not happily ever after.
Istvan was that perfect blend of brawn and brain, with the silent, brooding, intense vibe I get really thrilled about. I loved that he had some issues of his own to deal with, so in a way this a romance between recovering warriors. They helped each other out and made perfect sense together.
Their chemistry was awesome and the slow burn type of romance felt right, with all their reluctance since just a novel ago (lol) they were standing on different sides of battle lines and now they find themselves on the same one, pretty much.
Plot: The story had a rapid rhythm with enough action and tension to keep on the edge of my seat, but without becoming too agitated.
Writing:Third person narrative, Angyalka and Istvan’s POV.
Curb Appeal: Awesome cover, hooking blurb – good impulsive buy candidate, especially considering I’ve read Marie Treanor’s work before and loved it.

All in all, this was an awesome read and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I didn’t go fangirl mode on it, but then again it is start of January and you know how that is, lol. I’m saying I might not be in the fangirling mood, but I had a blast reading this novel. If you’re into vampires, romance and some PNR power-struggle, read this :D

The second book in the series, you really do need to read the first to be aware of what is happening. In this book, the focus is more on the romance and the conflicts that arise from these unbidden and heretofore unthinkable feelings.

Starting a bit slowly, this installment finds hunter Istvan still recovering from his injuries received in the battle with the bad vampires, and he is still moving and functioning at less than his best. He is looking to get answers to questions, and putting himself face to face with Angyalka, the vampire he believes holds the answer.

Unfortunately, he is in no shape to battle an angry and revengeful vampire who is having a moment, and isn’t 100% certain that she can understand the draw and attraction she has for this hunter. While the two dance about one another, trading witty barbs and sexual favors for information, Istvan is attracted to and appreciates Angualka, but she is still a vampire: and he sees her as an enemy with all of his being.

The story and connection between these two is a constant struggle with trust and fear: neither has a real reason to trust in the other, yet together they must search out who Is threatening their lives and livelihood, and just what threat they may be to the overall new view for the world. Steamy moments alternate with internal struggles to find acceptance and trust between them, and there just mayn’t be time.

Better paced after an initial slow start than the first story, this installment provided a paranormal story that was heavy on the romance and characters that were easy to relate to and understand even as they were so very different from one another. This was not a stand-alone story, and really should be read after book 1 in this series for best understanding.

I received an eBook copy from the publisher via NetGalley for purpose of honest review. I was not compensated for this review: all conclusions are my own responsibility.

We are back for the second book in the trilogy, Blood of Angels. For me this book was much more romance, or rather paranormal romance than it was urban fantasy. I felt like the first book felt more urban fantasy than paranormal romance. So just a heads up, in case you go into this book looking for a heavy urban fantasy book, this one is much more character/romance driven than urban fantasy story.

So Istvan is recovering from being seriously injured in a recent fight, and he is looking for answers to some things that he thinks will help him as a hunter. In order to get these answers he has to seek out Angyalka, who of course becomes the love interest in this story. Treanor really likes to put together Hunters and vampires, so this is just another example of this. The two of them have a lot of chemistry together, or at least that’s the read I had one them. They trade a lot of jabs with each other, but there is definitely a sexual component to their relationship. The problem for them really comes down to one of them is a Hunter and the other is a Vampire.

The two of them have to come together in order to get their the answers they both seek. Since this book is very character driven, there is a lot of inner problems, like trying to deal with internal issues, both of them seem to be trying to find acceptance as well as constantly having to deal with the trust issues the two of them have about each other.

Overall, I would say the story is pretty solid, but I wouldn’t recommend reading it unless you have read the first one. I think a lot of people would enjoy this book, especially if they like more character driven stories. The book did start a little slow for me, so that’s primarily why I went with a three star rating.

Istvan is a hunter recuperating from a recent battle where he was severely wounded. More science geek than rampage warrior, Istvan is on a mission to find and harness power. Power than could help hunters and vampires alike.

Angyalka is a beautiful vampiress and owner of the bar Angel. She suffers from agoraphobia and hasn't been outside in well over a hundred years. She runs and controls her world from within the walls of her bar. It is within this very bar that she meets Istvan. Istvan is the only man that has been able to overpower Angyalka and she likes it.

The chemistry between the two characters is great. They are drawn to each other and trade flirtations. Angyalka doesn't like for anyone to have the upper hand. So she constantly reminds Istvan of her strength and vampire nature. However, it is Istvan's own strong and commanding nature that is attractive to her. Istvan recognizes Angylka's need to be dominated and rises to the occasion superbly.

We are introduced to new characters while catching up with some old ones. I do wish there had been more Maximillian but we do get some glimpses of Mihaela and Robbie.

This is the second book in the series and does come to a definite conclusion while setting up events for the next book. I am happy to have discovered this series and will definitely be reading the next one.

This review is from: Blood of Angels (Book 2 of the Blood Hunters Series) (Kindle Edition)
Yet again, I am reviewing one of Marie Treanor's books. I really don't know why. I can't figure it out. Maybe it's because I LOVE THEM!!!!!!!
This is Book 2 in the Blood Hunter's series. I tend not to like series books unless they are the types of books that can stand alone and this is one of those series. It helps, of course, if you have read the previous books because reoccurring characters do appear in each book, but it's not necessary for you to enjoy the story, and enjoy it I did!
Istvan is a Vampire Hunter who is still healing from a near-death experience and Angyalka is an old, very powerful vampire who doesn't care for humans, much less Hunters. This is their love story, set amidst an ongoing war between Vampires, Hunters and humans. It is, like all of Ms Treanor's books, a story that will pull you in from page one and spit you out at the end with a lot of fantasies running around in your head. This story is fascinating, scary, mesmerizing, and, at times, HAWT!!!
You will LOVE IT!!!

I'd like to thank the author and publisher for the copy I received in return for an honest review.

Onto book two... I loved book one so much that I was a little hesitant as I started book two, it couldn't be as good as book one, could it?

I needn't have worried at all. This book focuses on Istvan, a friend of Mihaela's who we first met in book one. We learn more about Istvan as he struggles to contain his attraction to vampiress Angylaka, owner of the Angel club.

This book is as well written as the first. We encounter lots of interesting characters, both vampire and human, and there is no shortage of action - violent clashes and sexual connections aplenty! There are twists and turns, unexpected betrayals and alliances and good old-fashioned fights.

I'd recommend this to fans of paranormal writing and those new to the genre. Reading this after book one is a must and I can't wait to start book three!

Read thanks to Netgalley

The second book of 'Blood Hunters'-series is mainly focusing on Istvan, hunter on the mend and Angyalka vampiress and bar owner, but we also get to know snippets from the lives of the other charachters from the series.

The book starts off a little before book one ends. Istvan is seeking Angyalka out in order to learn more about the secret of angels but finds that he is irrevocably attracted to her, something that she founds very flattering. They soon find themselves entangled in more than just bantering and sex when someone bombs her bar.

Again Marie Treanor have vampires and hunters working together. The sexual tension between Istvan and Angyalka is tangible and yet he cannot really come to terms with him being attracted to a vampire.

It's believable and sexy. Angyalka is the most human vampire I think I have ever come across, and I really really like that she has weaknesses as well as tremendous power.

Blood of Angels by Marie Treanor is another one of her blood hunter-vampire tales. What an imaginative mind it must take to think up something like enchanted paintings. This one begins with Angyalka held at stake point by Istvan. Her parting words to him that night “No dance, then. Next time, it will be different.” So begins the story of their attraction, banter and dance that will take place amidst battles, injuries and art galleries. Not your usual plot events, but then her books never are. This is a mix of suspense, action, romance and very clever main and supporting characters. What a fun adventure in the world of vampires and those who hunter the evil ones.

The second book in this current series continues to deliver what the first offered. We have some well developed characters with complex issues, one being that one of them is undead and the other alive and directly opposed to what their vampire lover stands for. However these are no ordinary vampires and he is no ordinary human and together they find they can leave their past behind and enter a future where both their kind can survive.
The is no lack of action, the writing flows beautifully and the connection to the characters, all of them not just our Angel or our inventor, is constantly fed by the beautiful way the author allows us glimpses into their personalities.
Great reading and addictive!

As a lover of just about everything PNR, I loved this book. Although it moved somewhat slow in the beginning, I enjoyed reading it, but I do have to say that I enjoyed the 1st installment in this series, a lot better.

Other than that, Ms. Treanor has presented us with another intriguing PNR featuring 2 broken people who find a sense of wholeness in each other.

Giving this one: 3 stars.

This is the second in the Blood Hunters series, a spinoff of a previous series. Angyalka and Istvan have a great story. A seductive, secretive vampiress and a nerdy vampire hunter. This story was action packed, sexy and unpredictable. Overall, very enjoyable.
