⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ "An instant classic. I couldn't put it down."
The Aurora Project's story continues in Book Three of Eemians, Green Fires Burning, scheduled for November 2023.
They Came Firsttakes us back 100,000 years to meet the Eemians and learn their secrets.
A gripping thriller you can't put down
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ "Adventure. Intrigue. Betrayal. OMG, this was amazing!"
Ever wonder how we moved from cave dwellers to landing on the moon? After millions of years, it's as if a light switch had suddenly been thrown. Was it extraterrestrials, gods, or supernatural beings that lit that spark? What if that ancient knowledge and those helping hands that lifted us out of the darkness of our caves and into the light of our easy chairs were closer to home?
Eemians.
The legendary Edoardo Ballerini reads the audiobook.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐"2001 a Space Odyssey and Chariots of the Gods have nothing on They Came First. Well done!."
The first book, the Aurora Project was extremely well written, beautiful prose, interesting science and lots of great character development and dramatic tension, albeit the ending was quite a cliffhanger. I kept thinking what a great movie it would make. This book 2 however, appears to be written by a different author. ! Rather dull, weak prose, no character development (I could not keep track of who was who) and less sophisticated and juvenile. I found myself skimming to get to the point, which turned out to be rather pointless. Book three was touted as the actual sequel to the book 1 story and its listed at the end of book 1 and 2. But it does not exist and no coming soon indicated. So I guess the cliffhanger will not be resolved. Im not sure I even care anymore. Shame. It started out great.
Meh. I liked the first book. This one was kind of ridiculous.I get what the author is doing to set up backstory legend for the overall series. Creating a culture from scratch has to be pretty damned tough, but there was no real flavor here. Also this was essentially a scream fest about climate change. It was a bit heavy handed but I give him credit for trying the backstory. Looking forward to seeing the current day story get back on track in book 3.
Wow!...this is an incredible work of fiction with relevance in numerous and multi leveled ways to our world today. Its also one of the best books I have read this year. A combo of sci-fi, mixed with some history and science, lots of action and mystery. It really has it all
Read the first book and it was good! This however was a totally unbelievable plot. Too much technology if these people came first. The characters were not very strong and again not believable.. I finished the book but feel I wasted my time. Will not read the third in this trilogy..
A pointed and realistic story of the present crisis on Earth
He’s a good writer. The characters are distinctive, deeply drawn, and the complicated human behaviors and relationships well limned.
It both presents the stark, violent and difficult future facing all of life on Earth due to human selfishness & heedlessness, but it also gives hope for what we can do to save some of human culture, learning and technical skills while we suffer through a far more limited era of human life on Earth.
The peacemakers will survive, and will after many eons of living in caves at the poles, will repopulate the Earth with humankind. Let’s hope the psychopathic set of genes humans can carry are extinguished or nearly so from our gene pool. We will have something closer to a paradise on Earth!
May the selfish and violent extinguish only one another.
A well-written story about a world much like ours, struggling with an increasingly hostile environment due to climate change. It is, in fact, our world, just that it takes place about 100,000 years ago, during the previous interglacial period. The amount of death, violence, and loss experienced by the central characters is very depressing though, and I almost put the book down near the middle of it. A small glimmer of hope at the end, not sure if it is enough to propel me along to book 3. It is interesting to note that the characters in this story are not the ones in the first book, being separated by 100,000 years or so. I am kind of wondering if book 3 returns to the original characters.
A good attempt at explaining the meaning and cause of the artifacts discovered in the first book. It however falls short in the way it was presented. If the author was trying to present how society was fragmented over the cause [climate change and the impending collapse of society] and possible solutions to the problems, he made it very difficult to understand. Of course there was violent disagreement but the way it was presented was confusing. There was too much going on at any one time with too many characters involved, making it difficult to keep the characters and their positions straight. That being said the last part of the story was quite well done, straight forward and very clear. They had an objective and had to reach it in order to survive.
Laum has just turned 18 and has reached manhood. He starts an adventure with his three friends going into a rival nation. I found the story very interesting and a parallel to what the world is going through now the climate is changing due to human intervention and there is much anger and frustration going on. I found the plot very good and the character is well written. I recommend this book for all who like a climate change story from thousands of years ago.
So, this book grew and grew on me like, a good virus? But the parallel to where we are now, as a species, is undeniable. And even to the very end, with all the ugliness, division and ignorant hate... Some still may find Hope. I can not wait to read more from this audio-author.
Enjoyable follow up and yet prelude to the Aurora Project. When man (as in kind), makes the decision to lead by the “sword” (that is to fight) rather than to think of the greater need. We are indeed ourselves not that far removed from “Neanderthal” well that is “Eemian”. Let us trust (hope) book three arrives before 2024….
I hope I can read book 3 without this story. I’m so disappointed that I enjoyed the first book so much and this left me not enjoying the characters not understanding what the story was even supposed to be about before I gave up, but I want to book 3. Hopefully it will all make sense.
On my scale of 1 to 5 a 1 being don’t bother and a 5 a real page turner. I’m going to give They Came First a solid 4. This is a really good read, but to me it felt like it could have been part of the first or the third book. Either way it is a really good read. For the full review and podcast click here
A wonderful series. All 4 books were easy to read. I liked going back to the beginning where it all started. The technology was lost from that time and it is just being recovered by us now. Maybe a fusion drive might just end our dependence of fossil fuels and clean energy will be the best thing going ahead
Okay I started the first book and thought Holy smokes the second must be just as good. I was wrong IT IS BETTER. it is now almost 4 am and just finished book 2. I have to read three!
A good read. Is this our future? I see the parallels.
An easy to read, the pictures of this story reality found a place in my mind. The characters are strong, determined, the young lead. I like that. Looking forward to the next book.
The people that now were masters of the earth, find going forward very difficult! The earth at this time was ruled by people of different desires! This will lead to conflicts that result in the separation of the factions to find a different way forward!
Excellent project plan to start a series, then interject a prequel book which is a great story on its own, and then continue the original story in book three. Just finished the first two books and looking forward to reading book three.
i’m sorry I loved some of your other work, but I found this completely boring and I could not get past halfway. honestly, it makes me wonder if it was AI generated
