Anticipation and anxiety lead to gleeful exhilaration in this story of a father-son roller-coaster ride.
A timid young boy is just barely tall enough to ride the DinoCoaster, so he joins his father for a fast-paced journey that takes them climbing, zooming, sailing, and lurching upside down, round and round, past a colorful cast of amusement park creations. When the roller coaster finally comes to a stop, the boy is ready for another ride...but his queasy father isn't quite as enthusiastic.
Diane Adams' action-packed propulsive rhyme carries the reader along on a journey from fear to delight, accompanied by Kevin Luthardt's appealing, friendly amusement park dinosaurs.
A fun rhyming picture book about a dad and son who take a ride on the dino-coaster. Very simple text make it more appropriate for toddlers than preschoolers, but when you need a short book to end story time, this one would be fun.
Fun story about a kid who goes to the amusement park with his dad and rides a dinosaur roller coaster. This is a rhyming story with colorful and whimsical illustrations throughout. Kids will enjoy this one. Highly recommended for Grades K-2.
Adams Adventure #5 Book 5 from Diane Adams and this one is father and son on roller coaster with the son starting out timid and worried and ending with the father just having had enough! Not bad, but nothing amazing.
Riding a roller coaster for the first time can be a bit scary. A young boy and his dad attempt the big Dino coaster together. The sounds, the sights, and the feelings are all captured in a captivating rhyming cadence that encourages you to see the ride to the end.
Zoom! is a fun and exciting picturebook. The story shows a dad taking his son on a roller coaster, maybe for the first time, and as he exceeds the required height limit they climb aboard. The son seems fearful of the ride, but as the dad shows him that it will be fine, they begin their adventure. Ultimately, the dad ends up disliking the ride, while the son realizes that there's nothing to be scared of! This is a wonderful pictures book, especially for children who are about to go on a roller coaster or who may be scared of rides. The rhyming of the story enhances the fun and whimsical theme of the story. The illustrator uses double page, full bleed style to help depict the big twists and turns of the roller coaster. It makes the reader feel like they are on one themselves! I liked this story because of the rhyming and the bright colors. The characters faces are expressive and the illustrator uses their expressions to show their emotions without having text to support it. The dads fearful eyes contrasting his sons joyful smile shows exactly how both of them feel about the ride! It reminded me of being a kid myself, and going to theme parks with my own parents. It may create nostalgia with parents and readers alike, while getting children excited about their own adventures.
I get dizzy on roller coasters. This book will have the little ones imagining (or remembering) their amusement park experience. The pictures are so well done that I'm feeling a little dizzy. It won't happen to you, unless you're as wimpy about rides as I am. I relate well to the dad in this book, and agree with the choice he makes at the end.
A cute book, told in rhyme, about a young boy's first rollercoaster ride. Would make for a great read before heading to an amusement park (just make sure they're tall enough to ride the coaster before hyping it up)
I actually use this as part of my dinosaur storytime. After all, it's a dinosaur-themed roller coaster! And since I get to startle the kids when the roller-coaster starts and make lots of loud noises, it's always a hit. The illustrations are fun and really do add to the story.
The cheerful rhymes dance off one's tongue, making this fun to read aloud. The illustrations add to the fun.Positive interaction between father and son.
Shortly after reading this book my 4 year old daughter got the courage to ride a small coaster. I don't know if the book helped at all but it was a fun quick read.
