162 books837 followersSome people just seem to know they are meant to write, but it can still take a while to figure out exactly what their career will entail. Kate Douglas started out writing radio copy for a country western radio station in 1972, wrote and illustrated an educational cartoon strip for the American Mosquito Control Association for a number of years, was a newspaper reporter for a small town weekly where she covered everything from high school sports to drug busts, and then, in the mid-1980s, decided to write her first romance.
Many submissions and rejections followed.
In 1998, she sold to a small ebook publisher before anyone knew what an ebook was, but it wasn't until 2005, a full twenty years after finishing that first romance, that she signed with a New York publisher.
In January 2006, Kensington Publishing launched their Aphrodisia imprint of erotic romance with Kate's Wolf Tales, a sexy paranormal series about a lost race of shapeshifters. She went on to write 21 novels and novellas in that series, then wrote three other series for Kensington before moving to St. Martin's Press.
She has two series with SMP--The Intimate Relations series complete with three novels and one novella of romantic suspense set in California's wine country, and an erotic paranormal series, Feral Passions, set in California's Trinity Alps.
She is also continuing her Spirit Wild series, the sequel to Wolf Tales, independently.
Kate and her husband of over forty-five years have two adult children and six grandchildren. They live in the small town of Healdsburg, California, in the heart of the beautiful Sonoma County wine country.

The Chanku gene can only be passed to future generations through the female of the species, and Baylor Quinn, newest pack mates of Mik and AJ, has two sisters. Mary Ellen Quinn is found in New Mexico and the boys are sent to find her. Their only description is
her name and she is a pudgy little blond. After hours of asking everyone they happened to run into and walking from one end of town to the other, they stop in for a beer. They decide to get something to eat and head home to San Francisco. Hopefully, they will find more information on her location.
Now, dear readers, grab your inhaler, if needed, and make sure your mate is home. Kate is about to raise the temperature in the room. You the reader, and the boys are on a journey of fantasies hungered for, and fulfilled. Pounding hearts and torrid thighs, will only add to the heat in your room.
Thank you Kate Douglas, this series can only get hotter from here. You are about to experience the fantasy many hunger for all their lives, you included, but few have the panties to do it. I certainly hope you have a seat belt on that chair, if not hold on. I'm headed for the shower, I'm home alone. Heavy sigh. Any friends with benefits out there for a lonely man ?

AJ and Mik are on a mission to find a packmate's lost sister. They are not expecting to save a woman in a bar. Tala woke up three years ago in an alley without any memories of her past. She can't escape the man who "saved" her until AJ and Mik provide the means for her escape. When her past follows her, AJ and Mik make sure that she is finally safe.
I had read all of the books in the series that my library has but it didn't have the "between the books novellas". I was aware of AJ, Mik and Tala's backstory, but to finally read the book was wow! I loved the dynamic between AJ and Mik and when they added Tala, it was explosive.

AJ and Mik walked out of Folsom with jobs and commuted sentences, and into world of great change.
Already committed to each other, finding out they were Chanku and able to shift to wolves after investing certain nutrients, made that bond more tangible.
Now, doing a recovery mission on their way back from a major assignment, they’re hunting for a Chanku female who doesn’t yet know her heritage. Her older brother, Baylor, gave them a description and they have come to this desolate town on a hope of finding her.
Tala is a prostitute. She has to be, because when Jimmy found her naked in an alley three years prior, with no memory of before, there was no other explanation. Her life has cycled down to this town in the middle of nowhere, because her pimp wants the fewest options for her escape.
She makes him lots of money, because she needs sex - she craves sex - and he likes control of that. When two strangers object to how he handles her, Jimmy throws her to some of his buddies as punishment, to remind Tala who is in charge.
But, the strangers don’t leave town right away, and Tala takes a chance to stowaway in their car. If she can stay hidden long enough, she can maybe lose herself somewhere Jimmy can’t find her. It’s a slim hope, but she’ll take it.
AJ and Mik are comfortable as protectors, and that situation in the bar raised a lot of issues for them. So finding their stowaway and caring for her brings some relief; leaving her in the bar was a matter of numbers, not disinterest. Then they see her eyes - Chanku golden green - and find themselves in a quandary, to tell or not to tell.
Tala is shocked by their kindness, especially after they share they are more interested in each other, sexually, than her. She has her own bed, and they help her clean up, without taking advantage.
When she sees them making love, getting pulled in psychically to the experience catches them all by surprise. Fitting her into their sex play is shocking; she is an unexpected missing piece. They have to give her options.

This is the short story I MOST wanted to read in this series. I was not disappointed! Smoking hot and I loved the storyline! Pretty sure you could read this as a stand alone, but not positive you could either. You will have to try it and let me know. :)

July 8, 2013I can't do it Joyce, if I don't like the first half you said I'll hate the second so... I'm gonna stop. It's all your fault programming me this way! I am astounded you loved this book. Maybe if this was human romance I could get on board, or maybe not.

AJ and Mike were a delight. Tals was a very nice addition to the pack, but I think some of the subjects were taken too lightly.
