Kitt and Roslyn dreamed of becoming famous musicians together. Kitt made it. Roslyn didn't. Now thanks to a media blowup, they're both back where they started in the same small hometown. What will it take to make their old sad song play like new?
Roslyn wasted six years of her life studying music, all to end up back in the childhood home she tried so hard to escape. But her younger brother needed her, Clover Hill needed a new mechanic, and she was probably never suited for the industry anyway. Now, her biggest concern is getting through the day. At least it was…until the person who broke her heart to chase fame comes knocking on her door.
Kitt had everything they’d ever a record deal, adoring fans, and hit singles on the charts. Then a songwriting partner stabbed them in the back and their dream became a nightmare. With nowhere else to go, Kitt returns to their hometown. When they discover their old best friend and music partner is also back in Clover Hill, Kitt hatches a plan for getting their life back on track…with Roslyn in the mix again.
The last thing Roslyn wants is a music career, but Kitt is willing to pay the big bucks she needs to send her brother off to college. And since she never stopped writing songs, it should be easy to simply hand some over and be done with this business.
The problem is, she never stopped thinking about Kitt, and each song in her guitar case has memories of them written into every single note.
As someone who is starving for variety in my queer romance, I’m also just starving for it to be well written. I don’t know if I’m in the wrong book circles but…. This had a ton of potential. It’s a very typical fallen rock star trope but I was intrigued by their story. But something fell flat… I felt like most of the love story was off page. What little sex there was felt awkward. I dunno. It was just ok.
i ate this book UP!!! the characters were so beautifully fleshed out, i loved the relationships between all of the characters, just such a fun romance read!
I received an ARC from the author and am voluntarily posting a review. All opinions are my own. Every Single Note is the tenth (!) installment in the Clover Hill Romance series. As always, it works as a stand-alone, but I do recommend checking out all the books in the series. Just as with every author who has contributed thus far, Cyrus Adams contributes a fresh perspective on what it means to be queer within a shared queer-positive space/community. Roslyn’s story really resonates, even as someone who isn’t a musician, as she found herself giving up on her music dreams for the sake of her brother and a more practical life in Clover Hill. While she doesn’t see herself as a big star anymore, I love the way she rediscovers her passion for music through Kitt. And Kitt in turn experienced fame and the backstabbing that can come with it due to going through it without Roslyn, and I loved how they were willing to do anything to bring Roslyn back into their life again. And despite the span of years they’ve been apart, their shared passion for music is what helps them come back together. This is another wonderfully heartwarming installment in the series, from an author I can’t wait to read more from. If you’re looking for queer small-town or rock star/celebrity romance, I’d recommend this one!
This one grabbed me immediately and I needed Kleenex for the last few chapters and the Epilogue. Roslyn and her brother Evan have a wonderful relationship and Roslyn has worked so hard to build a life for them that will allow Evan to realize all his dreams. Her dreams, on the other hand, she's tamped down and convinced herself that a single life of all work and no play is all she'll ever have. To focus any energy on herself would be selfish. The one dream that won't stay down is based on her memories of Kitt, their music together and why Kitt had to leave as everyone eventually leaves her. Kitt chased their music dreams right out of Clover Hill and has found that "success" in the music world isn't anything like what they dreamed of. When they come back to Clover Hill, it seems they might have the chance at a life with Roslyn. Both their fears and doubts resurface and what happens after that called for the Kleenex. It's Evan to the rescue as Roslyn didn't raise her brother to be a fool, lol and I needed more Kleenex for a happy reason. The secret of the music Roslyn had been writing was perfection. I see that the series is going to continue so I had to do the dance of joy around the house as I thought this was going to be book 10 of 10. Hooray!
