If you are reading this review, you are obviously a fan of Kelli Maine’s Give and Take Series. I will admit that I ADORE Merrick. Yes, the way he went about things with Rachael might not have been wonderful, but damn was he sexy, dominant and hot as hell. Enter his son MJ, OH. MY. GOD. I am swooning. Is it wrong of me to want father and son at the top of my book boyfriend list? Jeez I hope not.

Immediately, I am sucked back into the world of Rocha within minutes of downloading. We were all briefly introduced to MJ the 20 year old son of Merrick at the end of No Takebacks. I was curious… what was the story here, and how was it all going to work out? Not only for Merrick and Rachael, but also for Merrick and his son that he’d never even knew existed. How will Ms. Maine tie everything together? Taken By Storm begins with a brief back and forth between MJ and his ex-girlfriend Maddie. Maddie is the house manager’s daughter, and it’s obvious from jump that these two have had an intense passionate love affair that has fallen apart. But why?

“Maddie had been his addiction, his drug, and he intended to stay clean.”

Maddie has been out of MJ’s life for over a year, but the fire is still there, and our interest is immediately peeked. What happened between these two? Maddie is keeping a dark secret from MJ, and we quickly learn she has come home not just to visit her dad, and reflect on her current relationship, but for closure. She wants to be able to move on with her life. A life she has decided must be lived without the love of MJ. She is trying to convince herself that she can be happy without him that she has done the right thing. MJ had been her childhood best friend turned lover. They were each other’s rocks through the most difficult times in their lives. I can’t help but question what has gone on to break these two up, seemingly beyond repair.

“He wanted to get inside her and never leave. Physically and mentally. He wanted to know what came between them and why she let it. He needed answers and he’d have them.”

Poor MJ has been a shell of himself since she walked out, a year and a half ago, without explanation. He wants answers, and we know these Rocha men don’t give up until they get what they want.

“It was Maddie who had destroyed his trust and ruined him for any other girl.”

I loved that we got to walk through the past from both Maddie’s and MJ’s eyes. The dual POV is really fabulous. Seeing flashbacks of their childhood and adolescence, and then finally the start of their all-consuming love affair was magical. I don’t think I need to remind you, but I will, Ms. Maine can write a sex scene like no other. The word scorching doesn’t even seem to do them justice. Holy hell each one is HOT! Maddie and MJ are seriously each other’s, other half, and their tattoos, oh I melted. This secret looms large over us, and I had difficulty putting this one down because I HAD to get to the bottom of this. I wanted to know what horrible thing could have the power to pull these two apart?

My heart literally hurt for MJ at points in this story. His life has been turned upside down. He still struggles with the fact that Maddie had left, he’s having a hard time in school, and now his father has just learned of his existence. The love of his life has returned, but still won’t give him answers, and MJ seems to be holding on by a thread. Never mind the fact that he lives with his grandfather, Enzo who is undoubtedly the root of most of these issues.

Of course, the one Rocha man that turns my stomach is Enzo. He is pure evil. We have a sense very early on that he is behind Maddie’s disappearing act, but why? Enzo becomes more vile to me with each scene he is in, and I can see why Merrick wants nothing to do with him. He’s cold, calculating and heartless.

I cherished the scenes with Maddie and MJ on Turtle Tear. Knowing love found Merrick and Rachael here, I had high hopes that MJ and Maddie would follow suit. That she would finally release that burden she had been carrying around, and tell MJ the secret. That he'd tell her everything would be okay, and they’d get through it. Ah if life were only this simple. Ms. Maine paints such a beautiful picture of the love that they have for each other that it feels like it can withstand anything thrown their way. I also welcomed the opportunity to see Merrick and MJ interact. Hoping that Merrick would welcome the son he never knew existed with open arms. Wanting somehow for them to make up for lost time.

I was anxious about how this would end. It is a series after all. Would we finally learn about Maddie’s secret? Would MJ be able to live with what was kept from him? Will this deception destroy the intense passion between these two? Will I get the redemption I am so anxious for in this story? You’ll have to read for yourself to find out. This tale is impassioned and captivating, and I seriously loved it. 5 Glorious Stars.

In the novella, No Takebacks we were left hanging as Rachel texted Merrick the news of Mj. Together they do what they must to get Mj as far away from old man Rocha as they can....

“It’s nice to finally meet you,” Merrick said, holding out his hand to shake his son’s. “I’m sorry it took so long, but I didn’t know you existed.”

Mj is a twenty year old college student. He was one of the star players on his baseball team and he was happy with his life. Especially with his best friend and the love of his life. Maddie had been his everything since he was a kid. He told her everything, especially when it came to the day he would finally get to meet his father. He had everything he could ever want until a year and a half ago, she just up and left his life abruptly ending their passionate relationship with no explanation. *insert heartache, confusion, alcohol and fights. Angry at the world Mj has no more baseball to turn, he has no-one, he can’t stand his grandfather, Old Man Rocha it is bad enough he has to live there. The last thing he ever expected was Maddie Simcoe’s return.*insert desire and storm clouds*

“Do you hate me?” she asked. Mj lifted his head and gripped the arms of the chair. “I’ve never hated you. I wanted to sometimes,” His dark eyes were heavy with remorse. “I should.”

Maddie Simcoe’s life hasn’t always been easy. Growing up she was fortunate to be able hang out at the Rocha estate because her father was an employee. Spending pretty much every summer with Mj, it never mattered that she was 4 years older than him. She and Mj became the best of friends and as they grew older they came to be so much more and then some. She loved/s him with every fiber of her being. It nearly killed her to break things off with Mj but she had no choice. When she returns to the Rocha estate and runs into Mj again, their intense passion for each other starts brewing. When he demands to know why she left, she is torn between two people she loves the most. Not to mention that new threat that has been bestowed upon her. *Yup, insert fear here* the secrets she carries will destroy the trust and love for one and will ruin the well-being of another, but that isn’t the only thing she has been hiding. *Insert denial and storm is brewing*

“Gone?” Maddies jumped up from her father’s couch and gripped his arm. “What do you mean Mj’s gone?” He looked at her like she was a mental patient. “He went to Turtle Tear with Rachel. I’m sorry he didn’t tell you.”
Maddie’s mind reeled. He left her this time. He wanted to hurt her like she’d hurt him.

When Mj takes something of hers and leaves for Turtle Tear Island with Rachel she has no choice but to go with Merrick to retrieve it. *Bring on the wind and rain*
Turtle Tear Island is absolute paradise. One night, Maddie and MJ find themselves back into each other arms. Things seem to be going well until he gets haunted by a stranger warning him to stay away from her and her lies. One night during a bad storm, there is an accident, one that makes Maddie realize that what she knows it isn’t worth keeping because life is just too short and then someone beats her to the punch. * Hello hurricane*

“He slammed his hand into the back of the couch, making her flinch. “Then when?” he shouted. “You never said goodbye. You were just gone. You tore my f$#king life apart, Maddie! And you can’t tell me why?” He clenched his jaw and lowered his forehead against her chest. “Do you know how absolutely destroyed I was?”

Jaw dropping secrets are revealed but this time the storm may have caused irreparable damage to their hearts...Get those windows boarded up, sand bags ready and brace yourself to be Taken by Storm...

WOW, OMG......I have to say Taken by Storm was an insane roller coaster of emotions and betrayal. Losing trust in a few, understanding just how desperate and how far one person will go; this story will keep you on the edge. It is guaranteed to make you fall in love with MJ and Maddie and even more so with Merrick.

Kelli Maine doesn’t disappoint with her steamy hot love scenes along with some suspense with a side of angst and a dab of WTF just happened. *insert eye pops and jaw drops* It does leave with more questions than answers.

I can’t wait to see what catastrophic storm Ms. Maine has brewing for Merrick, Rachel, Mj and Maddie, along with a few others, I have a feeling they eye of the storm has yet to come.

An electrifying job well done by Ms. Maine!

Amazing read....

I feel like I say that a lot lately. And I probably do. But damn if these Indie Authors aren't captivating me with their wonderful writing skills.

Kelli Maine did just that starting with Taken and No Takebacks.

Enter MJ Rocha at the tail end of No Takebacks and consider me intrigued....

Taken By Storm begins with the introduction to MJ. From the moment he's described I already have a mental picture of who I see in this role. 6% in I'm already falling for him when he describes his history with Maddie.

"The feel of her hair twisted in his fingers."
"Her soft sighs against his neck."
"The salty-sweet taste of her skin."

^^^^ um, yes please!

I love seeing these two in the present but also getting a glimpse of their past here and there so that we can understand the relationship between them. They have just the right amount of angst to make you root for MJ but also have just the right amount of connection to make you swoon.

Finally we learn more about MJ and how Enzo has manipulated Merrick. We also get to see a tender moment shared between MJ and Maddie in the same treehouse that Rachael and Merrick connected. So many great twists and turns in this book that you'll be on the edge of your seat. I had several late work nights wanting and needing to finish it but not being able to because of real life..... but I made it!

I'd plan for a weekend of peace and quiet when you start it because you're not going to want to put it down.

I can't wait for the next books!! Bring em on Kelli! <3 Me some Rocha Men!!!

*3.5 - 4 stars*

I love Kelli's work. I'm already a big fan of the Give & Take series and most recently, the Dolls & Dom's series so I knew there was no way I wouldn't enjoy this one. And I did enjoy it.. a lot, but only really from about 50% onwards.

This latest addition to the Give & Take series isn't a story about Rachael and Merrick, instead it is MJ, Merrick's son, story of re-connecting with his old love, Maddie. Confused, yet? It definitely takes a little to get your head around it.
The first half we are learning about Maddie and MJ and what made up their story. They aren't together thanks to a secret that Maddie is keeping, but of course we don't find out that secret for a long time. I had my suspicions but as ever, I was wrong. Dammit!
"Maddie had been his addiction, his drug, and he intended to stay clean. Clean, but not sober."

After the half way mark things got interesting for me and I was loving it a hell of a lot more. The gang (MJ, Maddie, Merrick and Rachael) are all together, back at Turtle Tear and I finally felt as though I was reading the same series again. Before that, it had almost felt like a standalone.

MJ and Maddie as separate characters were fine for me. I really liked MJ, although he will always come second for me when it comes to the Rocha men, Merrick has my heart. He was so much like his dad and I actually felt that through the writing, not just because I was being told it. Maddie, on the other hand, I couldn't relate to at all. We are told she is keeping a secret from MJ, which is the reason it caused her to break up with him and I was expecting something huge. It had to be huge for you to leave the love of your life, right? Well, not really. I'd guessed.. and I suppose was half right, and so when it was revealed I wasn't shocked, instead I was just thinking "Is that it?" So, I just wanted something more from her character. I never doubted her love for MJ but at the same time I wanted to shake her for acting the way she had.
"There will never be a day in my life when I don't love you, Madeline Simone Simcoe."

Overall, this was another good book in the series but as I've said, it just felt kind of lacking and as if it was a completely different book to the rest in the series. I am looking forward to the rest, although I really can't imagine how much more these characters can go through. Will they ever find peace?

Being a HUGE fan of this series so far which all started with Taken, I was hotly anticipating this book. Second in the series, it was a follow-up to No Take Backs, an in-between novella. I fell in love with that one as well so I figured this was a shoe-in.

Not Quite.

It was good to okay. I was expecting more to be honest and was a little disappointed for the majority of the book. With that said, it was still part in parcel of a series I love so far and it did let me re-acquaint with Rachael and Merrick.

So the reason I wasn't jumping up and down and professing endless love for this book was for two things:

Firstly, the pacing was a little lag for me. Having been used to the pace of the previous books, I expected the same here but never quite got it.

Secondly, and this is the bulk of why I didn't love the book. The back and forth between M.J and Maddie drove me absolutely crazy! Every paragraph was like this: I should go. No, I should stay. No, I should go. No, maybe I'll stay....and on. And on... You get the point??!!

It was like infinite backlash with these two! And the big secret Maddie had kept from M.J? not a good enough reason to hide something so critical. Sorry.

I would have loved to see one of them try and decide something then stick with that decision for a while before finally deciding the right thing. It honestly became stressful watching these two procrastinate!

I found myself huffing and eye-rolling for the majority of the book for that reson. Now, one other little thing irked me. The ending of No Take Backs showed Merrick running away after finding out he had a son. All of a sudden in this book he's okay with it and the explanation given was he was just surprised. REALLY?! you don't say! At least show the process in which he accepted the news, or add some more believable material for dramatic effect...I don't know.

The last third of this book got good and the pacing definitely improved. The story itself is atmospheric with the Turtle Tear resort and really interesting regardless of how I felt about this particular book.

I still LOVE this series and love the characters even more, with all the annoying back and forth included! I am looking forward to the third and subsequent novella's in this series and remain an avid fan!

*I received an e-ARC from Net Galley*
After reading Taken and No Take Backs I couldn’t wait for more Rocha men so when Net Galley approved my by request for an e-ARC I almost fell over! I loved getting to spend my Easter with MJ!

This is the story of MJ and Maddie; we learn thru past/present story telling (which I love) that they’d been best friends all their life and decided to take their friendship further one summer…until Maddie runs off breaking MJ’s heart in the process!!! When I found out just how badly she broke MJ’s heart I asked Kelli to go back and kill Maddie off! I hated her instantly. But Kelli told me “keep reading” so I did, and then I learned it wasn’t Maddie’s choice to leave; she was forced to leave because she knew too much. I felt bad for her after that and maybe a little guilty that I asked to have her stoned and be-headed. Although at times thru the story I still wanted to shake her for being so stubborn and dead set against following her heart and rekindling her relationship with MJ (she does have valid reasons for her hesitation) because you could literally feel the feelings they still have for each other we can also see the sparks between these two from a mile away like it was like the Macy*s 4th of July fireworks spectacular! Whether in the past or present story telling when it comes to the sex and passion between them I found myself biting my own lip and thinking (in regards to MJ’s paternity) there’s your DNA test, like father like son! But moving along…Taken By Storm surpassed my expectations!!! We find out more of the secrets that old bastard Enzo is hiding AND not to mention Merrick’s sister knew some of them and kept them from Merrick & MJ AND we find out his brother-in-law is in cahoots with old man Enzo *insert shocked face here* but not really shocked, since I always felt there was something shady/douchey about Merrick’s brother-in-law. There’s new secrets uncovered and new relatives discovered, Enzo goes on the run and I can’t wait to see when/where he resurfaces and I loveeeeddd seeing Merrick and MJ meet for the first time! I’m looking forward to seeing their relationship develop in the future books and I can't wait to see what the future holds for MJ & Maddie <3

Kelli has given me yet another Rocha man to love and swoon over <3 Taken By Storm was one storm I’d gladly get taken by any day!

Thank you NetGalley for providing me with an ARC in exchange for an honest review. Expected publication date: May 7, 2013.

As the saying goes…“When it rains…it pours” and a hurricane of lies, deceit and heartache hits Turtle Tear Island pretty hard. Buckle up because Taken By Storm by Kelli Maine is one hell of a tropical roller coaster ride.

Taken By Storm is the second book in the Give and Take series. TBS picks up right where books one and 1.5 (which is one scorching hot hella of a novella) leaves off. Rachel secretly leaves Turtle Tear Island after being contacted by Merrick’s estranged evil father. Rachel learns that Merrick’s father (aka The Old Man) led Merrick to believe that his young girlfriend and their baby died during childbirth twenty years ago. The baby that was supposed to be dead is very much alive and is thrust into their lives…in walks MJ or Merrick Rocha Jr.

TBS is the story of MJ, MJ’s ex-girlfriend Maddie and The Old Man (and of course Merrick and Rachel). The Old Man acts like some sinister puppet master…who manipulates his family through intimidation and unfathomable lies. The Old Man viciously pulls on the heart strings of MJ and Maddie...whose raw desire for each other is about to explode. The eye of the shit storm lands on the beautiful Island getaway and relationships are tested, true love is on the line, lies, lust and ghosts of the past come to life.

I tore through Taken By Storm…it’s a solid addition to this amazing series. I recommend reading No Take Backs prior to reading TBS. I have to say…I did miss Merrick and Rachel’s panty dropping smutastic escapades…but then again Merrick Jr. reminds me of his long lost SUPER HOT dad. There were a few loose ends…but I know that Kelli Maine doesn't miss a beat. I’m pretty confident that book 3 will answer my questions. All I have to say is more, more, more...please. I can’t wait to see where this story is going. The Taken series is total Kindle Crack…it’s a must read. Without a doubt this is a five star series.

First, I would suggest you read No Take Backs. It's a novella that gives you the perfect segue into Taken by Storm. It's extremely hot. Moisture protection is a must. Most importantly though, you learn that Merrick has twenty year old son that he never knew about.

MJ (Merrick Junior) has been hidden away his whole life by Merrick's father, The Old Man. MJ's closest friend is Maddie. She is the daughter of the house manager that works for MJ's grandfather. They were like brother and sister until their relationship became more intimate. The Old Man forces Maddie to leave town in order to keep family secrets and keep Maddie away from MJ.

Throughout the story you know that Maddie is keeping secrets from MJ. So it was hard for me to like her character. But MJ is willing to fight for this girl that owns his heart. I loved Merrick even more in Taken by Storm. He takes MJ in to his heart and his home immediately. I just love Rachael, Merrick's girlfriend. She says what's on her mind and stands up to The Old Man, always ready to defend Merrick.

As MJ tries to adjust to being a part of a family he's never known, Maddie tries to decide between loving the man her heart most desires or Talan the man every woman should want to marry. So far Maddie has chosen to protect her father and MJ by keeping secrets for The Old Man. Then all of her efforts are wasted when someone else comes along to tell all the secrets. It's a bomb I did not see coming. I have know idea why Merrick's father would go to such extremes. He really is the devil. But what's more disappointing is that his sister was also aware of the information.

MJ is sweet and forgiving and ultimately wins his hearts desire. It gets really hot up in there once Maddie gives in to her heart as well. I love the touch of ghost story the author includes in Taken by Storm. I also really hope we get more of Beck's story in his own book maybe.

Thanks to NetGalley for providing an early copy for me. The Taken series is a must read by Kelli Maine

Maddie runs back home. Before she can accept her fiancé’s marriage proposal she must clear the air between her and MJ. Maddie and MJ used to be in love.

From the moment that MJ sees Maddie again he is awash with emotions. It is a love/hate relationship. She broke his heart. However he can not deny how much he loves her, especially when he learns that she is engaged. MJ plans to show Maddie just how much he is the right man for her.

Taken by Storm is book two of the Give and Take novels. This book can be read as a stand alone novel. However there are some characters and their story that interact in this book that appeared in book one, Taken. Again though readers will be able to quickly piece together all of the events from book one.

Because I have not read book one, I can not say if having not read that book would have helped me any in liking this book better. I really had a hard time reading this book. I tried to stick with this book as long as I could but eventually had to put it down. I was not feeling the characters. I was pulling for Maddie and MJ but found them both to act kind of childish and moody. This was off putting. This is not a good thing when the two main characters are supposed to be featured in a romance. Which I could tell that they did love each other but their past left them kind of bitter towards each other. I did flash forward a ways just to see how the romance between Maddie and MJ was and it was hot.

I enjoyed this continuation in the series even though it was for different characters. I almost liked MJ's story better. I was waiting for him and Maddie's story to be resolved. Another thing I loved (that the first book had as well) is the talk of history in past lives. Part of the ending was left open ended which I am glad about because I look forward to that conclusion in book three.

I love the Taken series. I love Merrick and Rachael.

And now I love MJ and Maddie.

Taken By Storm is MJ and Maddie's story but I still got to see my other favorite characters, Merrick, Rachael, and Beck. TBS picks up where No Take Backs ended and continues with the story from MJ and Maddie's POV. It was interesting to get to know MJ. He has a lot on his plate, Maddie left him but is now back, he just found out about his dad, he's been kicked off the baseball team. MJ is confused and angry and I don't blame him. He's dealing with a lot at once. Maddie has her own issues; she's dealing with her love for MJ and the secrets she knows. I kept wanting her to tell him what she knew no matter the consequences. I was continuously rooting for them.

I have to say the first half TBS seemed a little slow, I understand we were getting to know MJ, Maddie, and the situation but I wanted things to happen. Well, I got that in the second half and boy, did things start unraveling towards the end! Secrets came out and it was just so good!

I loved the scenes with Merrick and Rachael, I missed them and can't wait for more of their story next.

Overall, Taken By Storm was a great addition to the Taken series! I can't wait to see where this series is going to go!

I was in utter love with Taken so this book was highly anticipated by me (and a lot of others too!). I was not ready to be done with Merrick & Rachaels story after Taken but I was pleasantly surprised that I got my fill of them in this book as well. Wow this book had me on edge the whole time I was just waiting for things to break loose and sure enough they did! I wanted to be mad at Maddie for not giving into her love for MJ but after it came out and she explained things I truly understood where she was coming from and felt sorry for them both that they lost so much time with each other. The hits just kept coming when the damn broke and everything came out it was beyond imaginable. Some hot steamy sex scenes. More deception is still lurk I feel - Like Merrick's sister Heidi & her husband Roger what is up with them? nothing good I imagine. Fabulous ending but I know there's another storm brewing!

Ok let me say this plain and simple: Kelli Maine you are absolutely amazeballs!!!!

I'm so in love with Rocha mens specially MJ!

"he had no willpower when it came to Maddie. He had to have her back. No other man could have her. She was his and always had been."

This man is so alpha male in all the extend of the word...

"I'm not giving you up without a fight. You can't leve me this time unless you swim back."

And she's so very sweet...

"He was the one she'd planned to marry. He was the one she'd planned to have babies with. He was the one...always the one."

And he would do good work with everything he promise...

This might be more of a 2.5 stars, but since I'm having a hard time deciding on how to rate this I've rounded up.

Maddie and MJ have been best friends their entire life, so it was only natural when their friendship became a lot more. That is until MJ's grandfather sends Maddie away to keep a secret. But you can't stop fate from pulling them back together and when it does old secrets become dangerous.

For me this was just ok. I mean it had everything you would want. Love, lust, drama, suspense...but in the end it just fell a little flat. No matter how hard I tried I just couldn't get emotionally invested in the characters and their story. It just never sucked me in. Overall the story was a quick read but I just wanted a little more omph out of it.

I was given an ARC through Netgalley for an honest review.

I dont really have much to say about this book. I liked it enough, but I didnt feel like I was invested in the book/plot.

I have held off on writing my review because I was hoping that all of the sudden it would hit me that I loved this book, but unfortunately that feeling never came.

combined review with Kim Person posted at www.shhmomsreading.com

Christine: I love Kelli Maine and her Give & Take Series so couldn’t wait to dive into Taken By Storm to learn more about the son that Merrick didn’t know about MJ.
Kim: When I got my hands on Taken by Storm I was doing a little of this...

okay, okay I was really doing this.......................

Kim: I have this THING for Merrick and I couldn't wait to see more of him but Lord Almighty I wasn't prepared for MJ ~ Ladies this would be me if I ran into this younger version of the Merrick on the street.....

Christine: This is the story of MJ and Maddie who grew up together as young children and had a great friendship and bond that turned into love. For an unknown reason, Maddie decides to run away from this new love with MJ and breaks his heart and spirit thus ruining him for other girls later.
Kim: Seriously though I really loved Maddie and I hated why she had to do what she did to MJ ~ It will have you in ..........................

and yes I had to ...................................................
Christine: Maddie returns home to where it all began a year later as her current boyfriend Talan has proposed to her and she can’t accept because of old feelings for MJ that were never resolved. Seeing them interact with each other, you can’t deny the fireworks between them. They are EXPLOSIVE and as an outside looking in at their relationship, I know in my heart that they are meant to be.
My heart goes out to MJ as he has definite daddy issues being ignored and not acknowledged by Merrick. A lot of his insecurities and issues now stem from that but I can’t help but compare them together – like father like son.
Kim: when Maddie & MJ got together ~ two stubborn mules that each wanted the other so much but couldn't see if would work seriously.....

and oh my dear do things really heat up when they both are at Turtle Tear .............................................................

but don't think it was all peachy keen the minute Maddie got there because MJ forced her hand with getting there and that had me.....

and I'm sure Maddie wanted to do a little of this to MJ.............

Christine: I enjoyed reading this story in the past and present as it gave me insight into Maddie and MJ’s backstory. The sex and obvious love that they felt for each other was all consuming and real. As I continue to read, I am saddened that they can’t be together for whatever this reason is that Maddie is hiding and I want to knock some sense into her and tell her to TELL THE TRUTH! NOTHING is that important to deny yourself true love.
Kim: but while there on the island something happens well comes to light so to speak that left me................................................

and then Maddie bless her poor heart ~ the selfless doll would do anything for her father and when she gets that call I was in..........

Christine: And when we FINALLY find out what that secret is – OH MY FREAKING GOD! It is CRAZY INSANE!
Kim: But as Christine mentioned just you wait until the "BIG" secret is revealed about why Maddie did what she did and the lengths some will go to keep things "hidden" you will be left like I was..............

Christine: Will this couple who were forced to be separated for a year be able to forgive and move forward? Will there be an opportunity for a second chance at this once in a lifetime love?
You will have to read it to find out!!!!
Kim: I already miss MJ & Maddie and by the end I was so..................

Christine: GREAT JOB KELLI!!! I need MORE of these Rocha men! Oh and a plane ticket to Turtle Tear please :)
BEYOND 5 FREAKING AMAZING FANFREAKINGTASTIC STARS ~ MJ IS YUMMY~ you will love him and Merrick awwwwwww ~ As always beautifully written story and you will get sucked in right away. You won't be putting this one down and you will..........................................

Kelli I can't wait for more, even though we just go this!!! I was totally ..........................................................

at the end of Taken By Storm and totaling dreaming about where Kelli will lead us next. I highly recommend this one and I promise you will fall in love with it as much as I have!!!I know you will agree with me when I say Kelli is freaking amazing and yep this is me...........

I confess, I felt completely lost as I started reading this book. Despite being the story of another couple, the characters from previous books are so connected that it is difficult for the reader to understand without having read previous books.

This is the story of MJ Rocha and Maddie. MJ is Merrick's son.
The couple are re-connecting after a while apart. And it seems that the reason for their separation was... too simple for that. That is, the character overreacted.

A little help of nature causes them to stay together longer than planned and less than desired to trim the edges.

The series seems interesting, with lots of highs and lows and lots of drama.
It is not exactly the genre that attracts me.

Title: Taken by Storm
Author: Kelli Maine
Publisher/Year: Grand Central Publishing 5/7/13
Length: 291 Pages
Series: Give & Take #2
Overview

DECEPTION

Maddie Simcoe knows the devastation that comes from keeping secrets. Now, she's desperate to move on from the heartbreak that almost destroyed her -- trading wild passion that once made her knees weak for a life of comfortable stability. But before Maddie can start over, she must return home to put the past behind her once and for all...

PASSION

When Maddie blows back into MJ Rocha's life, nothing will stop him from proving to her that walking away from him was the biggest mistake of her life -- not even the engagement ring she wears. Her every look, every touch tells MJ that the fire that once raged between them still burns hot, and MJ won't give up until Maddie gives in to the inferno.

REDEMPTION

Trapped by a hurricane roaring through Turtle Tear Island, MJ and Maddie find shelter in each others' arms. While the lightning flashes, MJ and Maddie are helpless to fight bonds of desire that tie them together. But just as they're about to surrender to the torturous longing that consumes them both, the storm unleashes violent secrets from MJ's past...secrets that could wash away all MJ and Maddie's hopes of forever...

My Thoughts

so, all in all, this series is getting much more complicated - but in a decent way. The one thing that i'm going to say - and i'd love to hear your thoughts - in the first installment, we were under the impression that Merrick got his babysitter preggo - and that she had 'taken care of it' - and in this book, we are told that she had the baby and died...and then there were hints that Merrick knew this - or that he knew she died, but didn't know that she had a baby - and then there were hints that he knew that she had a baby. so...i'm all confused on that front.

Anyhow, we're reintroduced to this mix when Rachael has gone back with 'grandfather' to meet MJ and try to help build that relationship between Merrick and his son. At the same time, we see MJ who's 20, having trouble finding his place in the world. He knew all along that his father didn't know about him - for the most part, and nowt hat he's in college, he's trying to find his path, but not doing in the right way. He's getting into fights (like his father) and being a bit impulsive rather than thinking things through (also like his father). So this story takes us on his journey, with his impulsiveness driving an even bigger wedge between him and Madddie - his past lover, hope to be future and forever lover - and daughter of the caretaker of his grandfather's mansion.

So...complicated right? Let's see, the sense that we're given is that Maddie ran away from MJ about a year prior and didn't tell MJ why she was leaving. While she was gone, she 'fell in love' with someone else who's proposed, but since Maddie feels like she still has some connection with MJ, she's asked for time...and takes it back where MJ is. At the same time, we learn that there's a reason that Maddie left - some secret that she's keeping for Enzo - MJ's grandfather - and this secret keeps coming up throughout the book, in thought only since we don't learn what it is.

Following the path of these folks, we end up back at Turtle Tear island, with the family reunited - and trying to get to know each other again. We get to see Rachael and Merrick really trying to make something work of their family, and trying to give Maddie and MJ space to sort out their own relationship.

What's nice about this story is that we still see the ques to make the bigger family work with Merrick and Heidi, even though we don't get a great impression of Roger - Heidi's husband here either. I just don't like him, and i think that we begin to see a much darker side to him as this story progresses. Merrick doesn't trust him, and MJ gets a similar impression.

The questions that we're posing throughout are whether MJ and Maddie will get together, and what will bring them together since we all know how stories like this happen. We also really want to know what the secret is since it seems like a really big one to keep Maddie away and to be fearful of - since Enzo continues to hold it over her and threatens her and her father if it's revealed.

I'm curious to see how things progress here since we meet someone new that no one expected, and we find out about others from the past and their history - and all the while, wondering what Enzo will do next and who's going to pay for his actions.

There's a sweet next step though here - we see that there's a bond between the current story line and the past owners of Turtle Tear, and we get to see the story there progress in the sense that we continue on to their plantation in FL - which is the next real estate purchase - all for good reason.

So, i guess i'm not quite giving up on this series, and i'll have to read #2.5 before i get to the ARC that i got from Netgalley on #3. I'm sure i'll be back tomorrow with a follow up - so enjoy for now!

"If you take the most impossible route to anywhere and make it a thousand times more complicated, that's the way MJ goes through life."

This book begins right after the shocking end of No Take Backs: A Taken Novella. But we are now getting the story from the point of view of MJ who is Merrick's long lost son. MJ feels abandoned by everyone that should matter. He has had no relationship with his parents, his grandfather barely tolerates him, and the love of his life left him a year ago with no explanation. He is angry, troubled, lost, and on a path to self destruction.

When the hell would he get a god damn break? It wasn't bad enough that he had the shitty end of every fucking stick when it came to family, now the universe had to take a dump on him...

But all at once, his life is rapidly changing. His first love Maddie is back and has secrets she will not reveal. And his father Merrick and his girlfriend Rachael just learned of MJ's existence. He has to come to terms with the changes, try to build new relationships, and try to convince Maddie that they belong together(and also get over being angry at her for abandoning him).

Maddie was kind of hard to take at first She literally crushed MJ by running out on him without any explanation. And is now continuing to cause him pain upon her return. She has to decide if she wants to say yes to the safe option she has waiting in the wings or open up to the man she has always loved. But at the same time she is trying to protect those that she cares about and is in a bad situation.

She thought she'd done the right thing. She'd left, kept the secret, and she hadn't hurt MJ by revealing the truth. She moved on with her life. She might think of MJ and cry every single day for the rest of her life, but she couldn't be with him and not tell him what she knew. She hated keeping secrets from him, but she could never hurt him with the truth.

MJ is broken and flawed. He knows what he wants Maddie but has no idea why she left him and what she is hiding. He just knows that he does not want to lose her again. And he is trying to navigate a relationship with his newly found father.

She'd always had a way of seeing inside of him to the pain and hurt. She could always make it go away, and damn it, he needed her to.

Some familiar supporting characters are back and we return to the beautiful Turtle Tear resort which is almost a character itself. I loved seeing more with Merrick and Rachael as they continue in their relationship. There is also an introduction of a new intriguing character who also has secrets and an agenda.

This book is filled with mysteries, deception, secrets, and danger. But it also has longing, lust, and love. Maddie and MJ are explosive, but clearly have something special. They have an undeniable pull, passion and an intense need for each other. But there are circumstances conspiring to keep them apart. We were priveleged to have both of their points of view so we could see their inner struggles and feelings.

"I like it when the ground moves under my feet when you're kissing me."
"Baby, I promise to always make your world shake."

But will they be able to share the secrets and and manage to get back together? Or will Maddie leave MJ even more broken than before?

This was a frantic, engaging, enjoyable addition to this series. I really liked MJ and came to like Maddie as I figured out more of her story. The twists and turns kept me flipping pages. I look forward to the next in the series Take Me Back: Give & Take Novella and Given.

Thanks to Kelli Maine, Netgalley and Hachette Book Group, GRAND CENTRAL PUBLISHING for allowing me to read this book for an honest review. Will be posted at Reviews by Tammy and Kim

Taken by Storm is the story of MJ; the son Merrick - the son he was told died. The son his father hid from him. But it's not just MJ's story it's Maddie's too. The girl that was his rock, his ray of hope in a place that offered him no solace. But she left him, abandoned him causing him to let go of any hope he had. Anger was all that he had to hold on to. Until she came back.

But as Rachel returns to the estate to meet MJ after it is revealed that he is alive so does Maddie. There to visit her father who manages the house she is trying to sort out her feelings for a love she walked away from and a new love that has asked her to be his wife. Unable to say yes, she takes a break to sort out her feelings - maybe bring some closure to the love she can't have with the boy that owns her heart. But coming back home means facing the hurt that she left behind.

MJ is dealing with the news of his father's knowledge that he exists, the girl he loves is back but won't be with him, his grandfather is playing a game with his life and all of this is unraveling as he is breaking apart. Then he shatters when he sees the ring. She belongs to him - he can't let her go.

Coming face to face with a man that he has wanted to know all his life, Maddie can't let him go through these moments alone. But being close to him again leaves her exposed and she risks hurting him with secrets she can't bare to be the one to reveal. He wants answers as to why she left him, but she can't risk the chance of his grandfather's threats. So he works out a plan to force her to tell him. And that plan leads them both to Turtle Tear Island. But the secrets follow them including a few new ones that no one expected.

He wants her but he wants all of her - he knows that he could take her but that would not mean she would stay. Confronted with his need of her and the risk of the hurt if she leaves the two clash and the sparks erupt. But there are far too many things that are pulling them apart. Too many unanswered questions and secrets that may drown out the flame.

You got a glimpse into Enzo's web of deceit and not a full view of the play he is making. But there is no doubt that he is the puppet master and he has had a hand in a lot more than just trying to steal the family business from his son. Every move is calculated, every step is planned in advance and the fall outs are all considered. Enzo's intentions towards Merrick seem to go far beyond what could be imagined. The reasons behind this need to destroy his son is still left untold and although parts of his house of cards may start to fall, he is not one to underestimate.

What was not too love about this book? We get MJ a younger version of Merrick...so two hot men that are intense, have their heads up their ass sometimes and will fight to get what they want (even if it ends up being creepy in the end); and they are mirror images of themselves. Did I forget to mention dimples. Yeah - dimples.

Although you get both POV in this story I felt a stronger pull towards the pain that MJ held. He was intense and his emotions were completely raw. Even when he didn't show them - he felt them and you felt them. A great addition the G&T series, but it just makes you want to know the answers to all the questions. How far will Enzo go? How will these secrets that were revealed affect Rachel & Merrick? Will his sister finally realize their father is evil? Amazing follow up that completely kept you guessing.

This review and others @ www.theromancecover.com

Only read this book if you have read the other 2 before it (Taken and No Take backs) I have heard people say this can be read as a stand alone but it so can't if you did it would spoil the other 2.

Now on to my review.......
I have been waiting for what feels lurk forever for this book to come out in the UK!! Just ask the girls they'll tell you I have moaned about it enough to them!!

This book is totally different from the other 2 as its told in the 3rd person and not 1st it is also not about Merrick and Rachel.
This is the story of MJ who is Merrick's long lost son and his "girlfriend" Maddie. The start of the book gives you a bit of a history of their relationship but not all. It's drip fed to us and there's a secret Maddie is keeping, the reason she left him pulled his world apart and never returned a year and a half a go. We do get to know that the reason is to do with the evil Enzo Rocha, MJ's grandfather and Merrick's dad, and if Maddie tells him Enzo will sack her dad and she can't have that as he couldn't afford to live she really is in a catch 22!

“It was Maddie who had destroyed his trust and ruined him for any other girl.”

I had mixed feelings for Maddie. I hated that she hurt MJ and wouldn't tell him why they couldn't be together the guy clear thought she was the sun moon and stars.

"Maddie had been his addiction, his drug, and he intended to stay clean. Clean, but not sober."

But at the same time I liked her and felt sorry for her, she wanted to be with him but her love and loyalty to her dad kept him away. Then there was the reason she had come home in the first place...that was a sticking point for me! If she loved MJ so much how could she be with another guy and let the relationship get to that stage?! Poor MJ was heartbroken when he found out.
So the book follows the cat and mouse game that is their relationship and a frustrating one at that, at the same time a strong relationship.

"He wanted to get inside her and never leave. Physically and mentally. He wanted to know what came between them and why she let it. He needed answers and he’d have them.”

It also follows MJ and Merrick's relationship, the dad he thought didn't want him and the son he thought was dead. It's lovely to see unfold as they have an instant bond and a clear love for each other. MJ has waited his whole life to meet his dad and has built a fairy tale of what it would be like, it's everything he hoped it would.
We get a bit of Rachel and Merrick but not too much as obviously this isn't their story but we do get answers to things that happened in the last one which is great.
So after the reunion they all end up back at Turtle Tear Island where things start to work out for everyone then along comes this massive secret and what did I think??? I thought Really?? Could that really happens??? If Enzo is the guy they say he is could this really be kept from him at the time it happened?? (Sorry don't want to give spoilers) I found that story line a tad far fetched!! And even though its all out Maddie still annoyed me. And MJ sums it up pretty well here....

"You don't say anything I understand, so stop talking before you piss me off again."

In the end MJ and Maddie are able to work past their troubles and get the HEA they both deserve.

"There will never be a day in my life when I don't love you, Madeline Simone Simcoe."

In summery I did really enjoy this as I love all Kelli's work and Merrick is my number 1 book boy. But there were a couple of sticking points for me and I really missed they writing style of the tigers as well. It was still a fantastic book and a must read if you have read the others although a tad short for the money if I do say so.
Would I recommend it?? Of course I would! So get out buy it and read it.

5 stars for another turbulent, twisting tale in the Give & Take Series....

I was so "Taken" (pun intended) by the beginning of this series. From the first words in Taken to the last words we were left with in No Takebacks, I was left breathless, and wanting more... Kelli's writing in Taken was unique the POV like no other book I'd ever read, and the storyline was even more unique... She exceeded boundaries of what is "normal" and acceptable, pushing limits in every aspect. From beginning to end I was captivated by Rachael and Merrick's story. I suspected nothing less in Taken by Storm with MJ and Maddie. What I got was a beautiful continuation of this series and further insight into the Rocha family.

At the end of No Takebacks Rachael had left Turtle Tear to go to Enzo Rocah (asshat as I like to call him) to discover a secret that was harbored from Merrick for the last 20 years. When Rachael delivers the news Merrick disappears from Turtle Tear leaving Rachael confused and Merrick Roach Jr. brokenhearted. After 20 years MJ has wanted nothing more then to have a real father in his life. Wanted to be part of the family, but his worst fear was confirmed that when his father found out about him he didn't want him... But things aren't always what the seem and soon MJ will learn that there is more to Merrick Roach then he ever imagined.

Book 2 in the Give & Take series follow the story of MJ Rocah. MJ has been living in a hidden world in and out of board schools being hidden away from his father. While he spent summers at the Rocah Estate he formed a friendship with Maddie Simcoe. Maddie and MJ formed a bond as children and it eventually turned into more. But like everyone in his life Maddie leaves, with no explanation and doesn't return...

Until she does... The secrets and the reason behind her leaving has torn her apart, she regrets leaving and coming back all at the same time. Enzo Rocha knows no boundaries when it comes to putting fear in people so Maddie left to protect the people she loved most. Their reunion isn't heart and flowers and the anger that MJ harbors for her leaving brings angst like you've never seen to the pages of this book. Push and pull, then Give & Take is exactly what this book is about... MJ pushes Maddie and Takes what he wants and Maddie pulls away repeated live before she Gives it freely. There are so many secrets lying in wait, and just when MJ believes that he has convinced her to stop pulling away, lightning strikes. It all happens so fast it will make your head spin!

And... Just when you think that you have this figured out Kelli adds a whole new level of mystery and deceit... Enzo Rocha is a man that is NOT to be trusted and he proves in more ways then one that his power over his family is strong. But now that Merrick knows the secrets his father has hidden away, nothing will stop him from bringing the man down... The question is WHERE IS ENZO ROCHA???

I cannot say enough wonderful things about this story, it kept me guessing, made me want to smack Maddie and MJ more times then I can count... The one constant character that I adore is Rachael, she is cool and calm and really plays a great role in this turbulent, and touching reunion... I cried, laughed and gasped for breath at times reading this one. I've told Kellie that very, very bad things need to happen to Enzo Rocah in the future...

Kelli has built a solid foundation for the future books in this series and I am dying to get my hands on the next one... sigh... June can't get here soon enough!!!! I highly recommend this book and if you haven't read the first two in the series get them all today and catch up... You won't regret it!

Back in November 2012, I fell in love with a little self published book called Taken by debut author Kelli Maine. It was a WOW book for me and thank God the sequel, No Take Backs was immediately available as I quickly devoured that too. No Take Backs left us with a hell of a revelation and now comes the aftermath in Taken by Storm, a highly anticipated book that I feel like I’ve been waiting forever to read. I must advise that you should read Taken and No Take Backs before continuing to read this review as you will encounter spoilers for the series. Also, please bear in mind that these are adult books (although you could consider Taken by Storm to be a New Adult book because of the age of the main characters) but I’m trying to tell you that the series does have mature content and scenes of a sexual nature.

Taken by Storm is MJ’s story – that’s Merrick Junior to those of you who haven’t been paying attention ;) As a teenager, Merrick got a girl pregnant and his father ‘made the problem go away’. Merrick had no idea that he had a son in the world until recently when Rachel found out the real reason Merrick’s father was going after his fortune – for MJ’s sake. At least that’s his story and he’s sticking to it. MJ is now twenty years old, about to meet Merrick for the first time and he’s nervous as hell. Throw in a rocky romance with a childhood sweetheart who broke his heart when she left town and now she’s back on the scene. MJ is in a bit of a state, God bless him.

Taken by Storm is written in the third person which allows us to explore both MJ and Maddie’s point of view, something I greatly appreciated. MJ was wonderful to watch in action, he really is just a less mature version of Merrick and I loved his history with Maddie. I have to say that I didn’t think I could fall for TWO Rocha men simultaneously but apparently I can! As MJ is a little young for me though, I’m going to stick with the original ;)

Maddie is the housekeeper’s daughter and has grown up with MJ. As young teenagers, their feelings morphed into something more but Maddie got scared and ran. Now she’s back and MJ wants to know why she left and broke his heart but Maddie is hiding secrets bigger than the both of them. MJ and Maddie were basically on a collision course with each other from the moment they met and I really didn't think that anything was going to keep them apart, but not for want of trying! I remember hearing Kelli say once that she struggled sometimes to write the romance and to this I say pffttt.....It was DEFINITELY romantic. Rachel and Merrick do obviously make appearances throughout the book as well as Enzo Rocha and all the old characters from the first book. We’re also introduced to a couple of new ones that I have a feeling are going to play a very big part in future books.

I really enjoyed the story (as always) and I always love returning to Turtle Tear. I especially enjoy the continuing theme of finding out the history behind Ingrid and Archibald Weston (the founders). I’m wondering if we’ll see more of that in book three (Okay, I KNOW we will!)

I can’t wait to read more from this series and the spin off series featuring MJ. The only downer is that at the moment, the books are not available on kindle in the UK because Taken is now being published traditionally and at present, the series does not have a UK publisher. You can still get the paperbacks but it would be nice to have the option. I keep saying that a UK publisher needs to pick this series up as it TOTALLY deserves it!! I just wish they'd listen *sigh*

He held her eyes, praying to feel her open him up again and climb inside. He needed her there. Needed someone to care as much as she used to. "Don't leave me, Mads." ~MJ, Loc 217

I was so excited to get to know MJ, and when I found out book two in the Give and Take series would be his love story with his old flame, I knew this would be great! MJ's life has been a lonely and loveless journey, except for the one girl who always made him feel like he had a place in the world. Maddie was his home, his comfort, from their childhood friendship all the way through their time together as so much more. The day that she left him without a word just shattered everything in his world, because he'd lost that one person he could always trust, always count on. It was so heartbreaking hearing him talk about how she broke him, it was like he'd basked in the sunlight that was Maddie and when she left he was just thrown into pitch black darkness.

Nothing. Nothing would ever be like that summer again. He'd never been so close to having a home with someone he loved. SHe offered it up like a dream and tore it away like his worst nightmare come true. ~MJ, Loc 232

Maddie's return into MJ's life just happened to coincide with Merrick finding out that MJ was alive and well. MJ had waited his whole life for his father to find out about him and want to be a part of his life, but in the Roca family nothing is so cut and dry. The revelation left Merrick scrambling to get Enzo's claws out of his son's life in every way, and when Merrick swooped in to claim his son it just made me love the man all the more!! We have the full cast of characters back again, with Rachael planted lovingly at Merrick's side while they make their return to their home and friends at Turtle Tear island, so MJ was anything but alone through this struggle.

She moved on with her life. She might think of MJ and cry every single day for the rest of her life, but she couldn't be with him and not tell him what she knew. She hated keeping secrets from him, but she could never hurt him with the truth. ~ Maddie, Loc 276

So what's the catch? Why did Maddie up and leave the love of her life? Well, she had a secret, well really two secrets, that she's kept from him the whole time. The guilt she carries and the pain the reader sees from her POV makes it seem huge, so I was bracing myself for something that would tear MJ apart. I struggled with Maddie's refusal to just tell him, and I loathed Enzo even more as he used people like chess pieces in his ultimate game.

When the entire truth was revealed, my jaw dropped and I immediately started questioning everything. It's still unclear if all of the secrets are more of Enzo's handywork, but it certainly sent a ripple through everyone's lives. I wanted to take MJ's side with his anger at Maddie for not just telling him her secret. She should have told him, and instead she made a decision to keep him in the dark just to save him the pain that would only grow worse with time. Hopefully she's learned her lesson, because I love her and MJ together (umm, can we say SMOKING hot??!!) and I want to see him finally getting the life he deserves with loved ones by his side!!

This was another great addition to the Give and Take series, and if you haven't started it yet, I highly recommend it to any romance fans!!
