From David Baldacci--#1 bestselling author and one of the world's most popular, widely read storytellers--comes the most thrilling novel of the year. THE HIT Will Robie is a master of killing. A highly skilled assassin, Robie is the man the U.S. government calls on to eliminate the worst of the worst-enemies of the state, monsters committed to harming untold numbers of innocent victims. No one else can match Robie's talents as a hitman...no one, except Jessica Reel. A fellow assassin, equally professional and dangerous, Reel is every bit as lethal as Robie. And now, she's gone rogue, turning her gun sights on other members of their agency. To stop one of their own, the government looks again to Will Robie. His bring in Reel, dead or alive. Only a killer can catch another killer, they tell him. But as Robie pursues Reel, he quickly finds that there is more to her betrayal than meets the eye. Her attacks on the agency conceal a larger threat, a threat that could send shockwaves through the U.S. government and around the world.
David Baldacci has been writing since childhood, when his mother gave him a lined notebook in which to write down his stories. (Much later, when David thanked her for being the spark that ignited his writing career, she revealed that she’d given him the notebook to keep him quiet, "because every mom needs a break now and then.”)
David published his first novel, Absolute Power, in 1996; the feature film adaptation followed, with Clint Eastwood as its director and star. In total, David has published 52 novels for adults; all have been national and international bestsellers, and several have been adapted for film and television. David has also published seven novels for younger readers. His books are published in over 45 languages and in more than 80 countries, with over 200 million copies sold worldwide.
In addition to being a prolific writer, David is a devoted philanthropist, and his greatest efforts are dedicated to his family’s Wish You Well Foundation®. Established by David and his wife, Michelle, the Wish You Well Foundation supports family and adult literacy programs in the United States.
A lifelong Virginian, David is a graduate of Virginia Commonwealth University and the University of Virginia School of Law.
A female professional killer,Reel, was a draw to read this book. Unfortunately, Robie is always right, possessions wisdom for all situations, knows how to not feel for family and friends to make him vulnerable, has all women want him, and responds properly to all threats within split seconds of a said threat. This reviewer was always wondering who "they" are who order people to do things and the 'they' who are government agency employees who will do whatever 'they' want. The premise of the Middle Eastern targets was intriguing and it was acceptable to suspend belief over how the jets, ids and, equipment etc., are all available ala James Bond. Although I may not read the complete Will Robie series, this author will be revisited.
I felt the theme and story line were exceptional. It illustrates a story regarding the age old theme "who is keeping the keepers themselves." Robbie is a character in his own right. Drawn between what is right and what is ordered. He finds solutions where he can satisfy both. It is suspenseful and causes pause for thoughts. I really liked it.
This was a fast paced page turner, in fact it kept me up a few nights just to see what was going to happen next. For those who like a good spy vs. spy thriller this is the book for you. I was somewhat disturbed by the fact that several of the scenarios used in the book are coming oh so close to today's reality. Thanks to my friend David, with who I have a great book exchange going!
hmm The book is ok. It is trying to hard to create a jack reacher, Jason Bourne and the likes. It isn't working. The hero comes across as a sensitive man, not my typecast for a best killer in the world. Read if you have nothing to do.
I have liked all of David's books so far some more than others but all enjoyable. He can be descriptive but not overly so. He manages a certain degree of intrigue and surprises that's not always unguessable but good nonetheless. I recommend this book for sure.
My first real disappointment from Baldacci. OK story line. Forced, weak and tedious dialogue. It's as if this author has taken his eye off the ball and hacked one out for the money. STRIKE ONE!
