I just read a review of this book (2-star) that said that this was slow moving, full of mundane details, and immature. She rated the book for these things, but half of the reason that I rated this book high was for the same exact thing.
And half the reason I took a star away was the same reason.
Rebecca Kertz wrote a lovely story of a different kind of lifestyle. The Amish life simpler than we do. They move at a slower, different pace. It's *WHY* people are fascinated with the Amish - because of their differences.
HOWEVER, this one takes 'slow-paced' to a new level. "And today they got up and had EGGS for breakfast. And then they went out and milked the cow. The children tended the chickens. And then they went INSIDE to gather the laundry. After that, we get three pages of baking." I'm not kidding.
There is no real plot, here. There's a girl who likes a guy, who thinks her cousin might like him too... but she's not sure, so she starts no drama, and keeps her distance. The cousin starts no drama, so there's... no drama. There's nothing at all. It's just a very straight-forward love story.
And sometimes? That's really nice.
