Being stationed at a naval base on Whidbey Island is a dream come true for Navy pilot Jack Callahan. But when a late-night encounter on a beach with a stunning woman turns scorchin' hot, Jack's dream starts resembling an X-rated fantasy….
Three weeks in her hometown is nothing short of torture for photographer Maggie Copeland. The town hasn't forgotten she was dumped at the altar by an aviator, and neither has she—until her naughty rendezvous with the oh-so-scrumptious stranger! But then Maggie learns that Jack is a pilot. Can she resist the force of their sexual chemistry…or will she find herself falling for another flyboy?
Karen is the multi-award winning author of 28 novels, and is both a RWA RITA ® and a RWA Vivian Award nominee. She believes life is better with love, chocolate, and a view of the ocean. Karen splits her time between writing romance and folding laundry, and escapes to Ireland as often as possible. She lives in coastal New England, in a sweet little waterfront cottage that she shares with her high school sweetheart and one very skittish cat.
I truly loved everything about this book! The characters and storyline are believable and intriguing! I especially liked the fact that Karen Foley visited Whidbey Island and did her research! I would know since I lived on Whidbey for 3 years! This book is a must read!
Photographer Maggie Copeland vowed never to return home to Whidbey Island. But when her brother asks for a favor, she finds herself back in the small town and entertaining salacious thoughts of the sexy stranger she met on the beach. That is until she learns Jack Callahan is a Navy pilot exactly like the man who left her standing at the altar.
A sweet and sexy read that is, unfortunately, undermined by a silly misunderstanding toward the end.
Maggie and Jack are likable characters and they have great chemistry. It is a pity that their relatively angst-free romance is almost ruined by their lack of communication.
Another annoying element is the fact that
Karen Foley's writing style is entertaining despite these issues and I will read more of her books.
"The whirlwind, yet realistic, progression of this pair's courtship is a highlight and will keep readers rooting for them all the way." RT Book Reviews, rated 4 1/2 stars
3 Stars – Free Fall is an adult contemporary/military romance by Karen Foley, and part of the Harlequin Blaze Uniformly Hot! series. The Few. The Proud. The Sexy as Hell!
Being stationed at the naval base on Whidbey Island is a dream come true for Navy pilot Jack Callahan. He’d spent his summers there, where his grandfather operated a whale-watching charter business. And some of his happiest memories were of days spent on the waters of Puget Sound, in the hopes of sighting the magnificent animals. But when a late-night encounter on a beach with a stunning woman turns scorching hot, Jack’s dream assignment starts resembling an X-rated fantasy…
Three weeks in her hometown is nothing short of torture for photographer Maggie Copeland, who hasn’t been back to the Pacific Northwest in almost ten years. Living in Chicago represents freedom to her, and more importantly, it offers an escape from the humiliating memories of being inexplicably dumped by an aviator just weeks before their wedding. The town hasn’t forgotten what happened, and neither has she—until she’s rescued from a fall by a sexy stranger! But when Maggie discovers he’s a fighter pilot, she knows she needs to turn and walk away. Because she knows from bitter experience that the one thing military guys are good at is leaving.
Jack can’t explain what it is about Maggie that calls to him, but she appeals to him on a level that goes deeper than mere sexual attraction. Call him nuts, but he’d always preferred the difficult missions to the easy ones. And now he has just a few short weeks in which to change Maggie’s mind about the island—and about him.
I just love a man in uniform! Free Fall is a quick, sexy, steamy read with a satisfying HEA, perfect for the beach or a lazy afternoon.
Content: graphic language, explicit sex, and oral.
B757 July13 Navy pilot, Jack Callahan, returns to Whidbey Island and meets Maggie Copeland. She has returned, after 10 years, to help with her brother's business while he takes his wife on vacation. Pregnancy problems keep them in Hawaii, until the birth of the twins, for two months. Maggie has trouble letting her past go and accepting that Jack might possibly be the future.
This was my first book by this author and I throughly enjoyed it. How Jack helped Maggie overcome her fears of falling in love with a sexy pilot was so endearing and sexy. I liked the setting of the book and the story that followed. I would definitely recommend this book.
I can see why Karen was nominated for a RITA award. This was a terrific romance. There are some very hot sex scenes, but you know what? It's a story that will stand up without them. I love when a book has substance beyond the heat, and this book delivers in spades.
wanted to read a harlequin just to see what it was like. was pleasantly surprised with this one. well done, respectful, but still fun to read. will check out more in the uniformly hot series.
The plot was good. I liked the characters and the setting but the dialogue was terrible. It was so unnatural that every time someone said anything, all I was thinking was "nobody talks like that".
i really enjoyed this book! hate that it is shorter than the books i typically read but it was still a very good read with good characters and a great story!
