Best friend's brother has never been my favorite trope so I started this with an open mind. And I'm so glad I did.

“I’m starting to wonder if the real question isn’t how you got past her, but how she got past you.”

Nichole has been in love and proposed to - twice - , and both times she was left alone and feeling like she wasn't worth it. As if it were her fault and she had wanted too much, too soon. So she's not willing to give it another go, even if her best friend's all but throwing her in for some casual fun, without the wedding bells.
Garrett is the hot-as-hell casual-relationship guy and the one who doesn't want any strings attached. Granted, he's had a lot on his plate from having to raise his sisters, including Nichole's bestie. So casual is what he does and all he allows himself to wish for.

They don't know each other.

One sunset later, everything changes. And then it changes again when they realize who they are, what it may mean and how wrong this can turn out. But they forget to consider how perfectly right it can actually be.

This book pulls you in. I swear I was smiling most of the time. It's sexy, the characters are perfect, the writing style is totally Mira Lyn Kelly's and writing is really what she was born to do. It's hard not to fall in love with Nikki and Garrett while reading this book.

It was quite short, hence not much happened in this book. It’s pure sexy romance, nothing deep, and sometimes that’s all you need.

Once you get past the improbable coincidence–Nichole actually meets the brother her best friend was talking about, and they run in the same circle without having met ever before–and its consequence, as in it isn’t a good idea to date your best friend’s brother, you can fully enjoy their sexy love story.

The characters are no deeper than their background story, with Garrett seeking no strings attached fun because he doesn’t have time for more, and Nichole being warned off relationships after two painful experiences. Those are the hang ups they have to overcome to be together. For once, it wasn’t exactly a lack of communication that threatened their relationship–they had a set of rules, and once they were broken, it was logical to end it–but more a lack of self awareness on Garrett’s part. It rang kind of true. Not too farfetched.

While it was really really hot, probably the sexiest book by this author I’ve ever read, the romantic component was actually good too. Sure, Nichole and Garrett have sexy times, but they also connect on another level and it’s on paper, not just told to us. I loved the chemistry. Maybe it was a bit too sugary at the end, but it’s a matter of taste. It was overly romantic for sure, but that’s what romance is for. This story reached its goal.

Quickie

- Series: standalone
- Hashtags: #best friend’s brother #no strings attached #friends with benefits
- Triggers: N/A

- Hotness: 4/5
- Romance: 4/5

- – not much happened, it wasn’t very deep

Is falling in love for a third time even possible, or after the second do you lose all faith? Nicole has been engaged twice and has given up on finding “forever”. But after one night out she meets a man, and ends up sleeping with him, and only after does she find out who he really is.

Nicole and Garrett are two very different characters, but yet seem to mesh so perfectly together. Nichole is an everyday sweetheart and you can’t help but love her character and want everything to work out for her. Garrett just seems to be a mixed of a sweetheart and a bad boy, who wants nothing more than sex with the ladies, but defiantly no relationship.

The storyline is very easy to follow. It has a nice flow to it, and is very well written. The story plays on your emotions, which I appreciated. The author did a great job telling this story, it never felt dragged out and had enough “oh my god what’s going to happen” moments that made the book a non-stop read for me.

This book is a must read! But even more so if you’re thinking about crossing the bridge between friendship to romance!

The heroine has been keeping away from men for three years because her old relationships ended in two engagements. Then she meets the hero almost sleeping with him but they stop when they find out they know each other, the hero's sister is the heroine's best friend. They fight the attraction for a while but decide to give in, the hero excels at casual he had to because he raised his four sisters and then put himself through school while running his business on the side. He tells her he won't let them get in too deep but of course it happens and the heroine ends it. Of course they keep running into each other. My problem I didn't feel the book or the romance much. The heroine seemed more invested than the hero IMO.

We have all been there, hurt so badly by someone that we trusted and loved with all our hearts, and getting back up and out there seems impossible, but what if you have had to go through it twice? And not just the fall in love and then out of love equals breakup, but the actual ring on the finger nearly at the altar and now it's over!

I am pretty sure that ever getting involved with a man again of any kind will be the one decision you will be most afraid to make. Yet, this is exactly the heartache and challenge Nichole has to face in her life, and when her best friend suggests she lets go of the past hurt and just go out and grab the first hot man she sees and get some in order to get back on track, Nicole goes for it!

Only the man she ends up with is no other than Mr-I'll-whisper-you-into-submission Garrett, who happens to be the brother of her best friend. She will not risk the friendship so backing off and doing a 360 degree turnaround is the only only option, except Garrett is famous for being able to charm any woman out of her panties in less than a heartbeat, any-time, anywhere and in any position he wants them, and he wants Nichole! Resistance is futile!

The character of Nichole was one of those that pulls at your heartstrings as you can relate to her and the heartache she has had to face, even if you have never gotten to the engaged and then dumped part you still can understand how she feels and immediately as reader I wanted her to find some form of happiness. But loosing your best friend is almost as bad as loosing the man of your dreams, and I admired the author showing the character as a loyal and caring one.

The character of Garrett was a real piece of art, the author gave me as reader a total sweetheart of a man but at the same time a man that still craves to just have fun. He is the responsible, kind and considerate -come I want you just for right now badboy kind of guy that most woman would never in their wildest dreams think of getting involved with for anything else other than a wild crazy sex induced night! But knowing this authors characters are always hiding something I knew the best of this badboy was yet to come through and when it does, trust me ladies you heart will melt on the spot.

The backdrop settings were light and flirty keeping in tune with this is only a sexual thing theme of the book. The dialogue was easy going and fun to read with lots of crazy and fun lines that had me laughing out loud, but there was also some great emotional words from both characters that left me with tears in my eyes.

I loved the battle of resistance between the characters, it did at some point get to the "I wish I could just lock these two up in room together" moment, yet the author did a wonderful job of turning my focus away from all this with other interventions, before bringing it to the moment of explosive heat erupting faster than whipped cream being topped onto desert! Terrific moments of sexual tension and conflict.

I highly recommend this read for readers who love reading about characters facing the challenge of crossing the bridge between friendship to lovers and all that it entails.

★★½

After barely surviving two broken engagements, Nichole Daniels tries to play it free and easy, in other words, a no-strings attached relationship. And Garrett seems like just the man to experiment with casual. This book started out good, then it became too clichéd and too predictable. Even the ending fell flat. I would have given it three stars, but knowing how better Mira Lyn Kelly can write, I deducted half a star.

I think I could have gone four stars if the dude having a change of heart about wanting a family hadn't happened at the end. It's okay to not want kids! Even in a romance. And while that can obviously be a dealbreaker in a relationship, it doesn't mean that someone is wrong for feeling that way. And I wish more books were okay with sticking to their guns on that subject.

180320: once again, not sure why i read (most of) this. insight? well someone reads these harlequins and in some way they must demonstrate, directly, what is satisfactory modern romance. and sex. i have read older popular romance, i read this to see evolution, perhaps conservative, but the description of what is valued in man not changed much: aside from success in man’s world (business etc), he is sensitive to woman’s world (talks emotions etc), she, on the other, seems much more active, more agent, and, with usual complications, romance all wrapped up in about 50k words... not difficult to read, not exciting, not challenging... i have to stop reading just anything available when it is just there to download...

When Harlequin launched its new KISS series earlier this year, it started off by offering Waking Up Married by Mira Lyn Kelly for free. I adored this story — it was sweet, hot, and a little bit messed up. Naturally, when I saw this one coming out from the same author, I was curious.

Nichole’s been burned twice in love, so she’s stayed far away for the past three years. Her best friend, Maeve, has had enough of it and wants her to get back out there. She has the perfect solution, too: Nichole should take some tips from Maeve’s brother, Garrett, aka “The Panty Whisperer.” Garrett’s perfected the no-strings, no-guilt one-night stand, something Nichole could use.

At a party, Nichole finds herself drawn to a guy for the first time in ages, and taking Maeve’s advice about living a little in mind, she takes him home. Then she has a fine ol’ time. And then he tells her his name. Yup, you guessed it. Only the best could whisper her panties off.

Complications and arrangements ensue. Chemistry abounds. There is much growling, in the bedroom and out. (Gotta love the growling! Why do I love the growling so?) And, of course, Nichole finds herself falling harder than she intended. She’s a strong girl, though. She can handle it. But can Garrett?

I wanted to love this book. I thought Nichole, Maeve, and Garrett were all great characters. The problem was in the writing. The book was full of incomplete sentences. Which is not a problem, in moderation. (That will be the only incomplete sentence in this review, I promise.) But Kelly does not do it in moderation, and the result is a choppy reading experience. I find I have the same problem with some books by Charlotte Stein: I respect her as an author and I’m intrigued by her storylines, but so many incomplete sentences just isn’t comfortable. I kind of get it; it’s the way we talk, so it’s definitely a true-to-life style, but it’s a bit jarring to read. I glanced back at Kelly’s Waking Up Married, since I thought I would have noticed it there, but it wasn’t a problem in that book. Hmm. (I haven’t read the other books she’s written for Harlequin, nor have I read her erotica, written as Moira McTark. Check them all out at www.miralynkelly.com.)

Also, the story was dead predictable. That’s not such a bad thing; I kind of enjoyed where it went in some cases even when I could see it coming a mile away, but it would have been nice to have a surprise or two. Easier said than done, though.

Bottom line: I didn’t like this as much as Waking Up Married, but I did like it for the same reasons I liked that one — sweet, hot, and a little bit messed up.

I received my copy of this novel for free through a Goodreads First Reads giveaway. Thanks Goodreads, Harlequin, and Mira Lyn Kelly!

If I was instructed to select only one word to sum up this novel, I would choose FUN. Because it is… In every way fun could be had.

Our female protagonist, Nichole, a strong, relatable woman, is bound by past hurts, unable to move forward with her love life for fear of getting hurt yet again—haven’t we all been there? So, to protect herself, she swears off relationships—at least, those that involve commitment. That is, until she crosses paths (numerous times) with sexy, responsible, and oh-so-desirable Garrett Carter AKA the Panty Whisperer. However will she be able to resist?

Sounds like the plot of countless other Harlequins, right? Right. I have read innumerable romance novels with the same plots being recycled time and time again. However, Mira Lyn Kelly brings something entirely new to the modern-romance table, effortlessly executing a fun, flirty read.

The story unfolds through the perspective of both main characters. This unique narrative style reveals a tremendous amount of information about each persona, how they feel about each other, as well as offering some insight into their relationships with other characters. These other characters- Nichole and Garrett’s kith and kin- compliment the story extremely well, especially Maeve. As Garrett’s little sister, and Nichole’s best friend, Maeve serves as an integral part in each of their lives. From the witty banter, to the serious heart-to-hearts, Maeve was certainly my favourite character (apart from yummy Garrett, of course!). That being said, I praise Ms. Kelly for her ability to bring to life such wonderful, amiable characters, ones that I would love to know in reality. At the very least, I enjoyed getting acquainted with them for the brief moments spent in the world Ms. Kelly created.

The book itself is relatively short; I devoured it within a couple of hours. However, this could be because it was so difficult to put down once I began! I was sucked into the fun dialogue and unique spin on a classic story. Overall, Mira Lyn Kelly has here a clear winner in my book. This is a definite must-read for the remaining weeks of summer that will at times have you laughing out loud and, at others, biting your lip from the sheer pleasure oozing out of every page.

Once I started reading Once is Never Enough, I couldn’t put it down. I became invested in what happened. Garrett and Nichole couldn’t keep their hands off each other, but both were afraid to commit, for two very different reasons. I didn’t know if they would ever get pull their heads out, and then Nichole did, but Garrett sure took his time. There was one point when I wanted to slap him, but he more than made up for it.

If you like your romances sweet and fun with a whole lot of steamy, this book is definitely one you should read. Ms. Kelly is a new-to-me author and I plan on changing that very soon. She spun a tale that the reader can relate too and then she draws the reader in and traps them in her web. I’m sitting here right now wanting Maeve’s story, I just want more! I love the secondary crew in this story as well as the hero and heroine.

Nichole doesn't want a relationship after experiencing her share of heartbreak. However, she can't help but be attracted to a handsome stranger she spends one night with. She's surprised to find out that he's actually her friend's brother Garrett.

Nichole and Garrett have quick chemistry and a connection neither of them expected. The book is a quick read, and their relationship developed at a good pace. Nothing felt rushed and the writing was easy to read and engaging. I liked the first book in this series, and this one is even better.

Thank you to the author for providing an ARC for an honest review.

Another miss for me from MLK unfortunately. I think if this had been written in today's writing era, I probably would've liked this but 10 years ago was a whole different era of romance writing and it shows in this.

The values feel very old school and very cliché for this kind of story. Plus, I was a little confused as to how they'd never come across one another when her and Maeve were so close, and Maeve was also very close to her brother.

I did like that Garrett wasn't a dick though, and was actually really sweet given he had to become the 'man of the house' at such a young age and has always acted like a father for his sisters. He clearly loves them and will do anything to help them succeed even if it means holding himself back. And, when he finally lets Nicole know why he doesn't want kids, it's very understandable and I like that it wasn't the cliché 'I'm a bachelor, I hate kids' attitude.

Likewise, whilst Nicole falls into the trap of wanting more from him, I did like that she finally breaks it off with him and accepts that it's not going to work because of the differences in their future thoughts. Likewise, I can understand why she was so afraid to go into something/getting hurt given her past.

I'm not sure how I felt about the ending though. Garrett overhears a conversation between his sisters that someone is pregnant, and automatically assumes it's Nicole. In the space of a few minutes, he then changes his stance on kids and decides he does want them with her now. And... tbh, it does seem like a whiplash decision, but, I can also understand the change because of how he raised his sisters. I feel like there was probably a bit of nostalgia, and remembering the good parts that make it all worth it, that played into his changing decision.

What I can't get with, is him then basically immediately proposing when he next sees Nicole and then eloping for a Vegas wedding??? I just think it wasn't needed to finish the book.

1.8* because there were some things that I liked in this and it's a quick, easy read. If I had read this back in 2013, I probably would've liked it more. But, in today's romance world, it feels outdated.

Once is Never Enough by Mira Lyn Kelly is a sweet, sizzling, mistaken identity, best friend's brother romance. Garrett hasn't had time for anything but the most casual one-nighters since he became primary caretaker of his sisters as a teen, but his construction business is doing well and he finally finished the degree he had been slaving for on the side. Nichole moved to Chicago a few years ago to escape the devastation of her second failed engagement. When Nichole and Garrett meet at a party sparks fly as they are attracted to one another. Nichole decides it time to dip a toe back into the dating pool with a one night stand; a single night with no complications. No names, they thought, just Red (Nichole) and Blue Eyes (Garrett); until Nichole learns she just slept with her best friend’s brother. One night is not enough for either of them, only, they aren’t on the same page for more than a causal relationship. Filled with magnetic attraction and sizzling chemistry, I highly recommend Once is Never Enough to other readers.

Nichole(Red) and Garrett (blue eyes)

After two fail engagement Nichole feel like she unloveable and heart broken she meet a man not knowing that Garrett is her best friend brother. Her friend Maeve is pushing her to have more fun than to have a relationship because she always want more a husband children. She need to have a fling and stop thinking about it.

Garrett has had it hard in life after raising his sister and putting himself through school he not looking for a relationship. He more into casual sex.

One night things change between them. Nichole didn’t think at all she let go she didn’t over think it and have her night with Garrett.until they find out they have a mutual love her best friend and his sister Maeve and everything fall apart because Garrett doesn’t like to have any sort of relationship or one night stand with his sister friends that his number one rule. Maeve know him as The Panty Whisperer.

When they see each other they can’t keep there hands off each other so they make an agreement to be together.

Trash. Absolute garbage. Every cliché there is about the girl going into a no strings relationship with the guy happened with Nichole and Garrett.

- Tells him she just wants casual
- Begins to want more
- Thinks she can change his mind secretly
- Shocked when he doesn’t change his mind
- Continues to sleep with him
- Pathetically attempt to make him jealous using another guy

Garrett told her what the score was and she was the idiot who still went through with it against her better judgement and then she goes ahead and decides to trust him in the end to get a quickie marriage despite what he put her through? No wonder she’s had two broken engagements. Nichole gets way ahead of herself and has a terrible judge of character. Garrett’s no catch either considering his actions and history. Just a terrible couple and story altogether and a complete waste of time to read for such a predictable and boring end.

After two failed engagements, nothing scares Nichole more than commitment. But after two years of being alone, she’s ready to... have fun. Explore the world around her.

When her best friend Maeve suggests she looks into something casual, Nichole realizes, that’s the last thing she wants.

Until a certain blue eyed stranger comes to her rescue and the connection? Immediate. Hot. Intimate even.

But when her blue eyed stranger turned out to be her best friends brother -- Garrett Carter -- they both panic.

Garrett has strict rules, no commitments and no dating the friends of his sisters. Realizing his mistake, they back off and become friends. But the fire that has been lit can’t be undone.

A distraction... she needs a distraction. And a distraction Garrett provides.

‘I hear you need a distraction.’

This book is amazing, it does have some spice but not the full thing. You will be on the edge though, there’s just something about Garrett that makes you want... more.

Nichole Daniels is a good girl but the night she sees Garrett Carter is the one night that she's planned to take a walk on the wild side. She thinks she recognizes him but it's not until they're in flagrante delicto that she realizes that Garrett is the brother of her best friend. Definitely not someone that she should be attempting a one night stand with. So they back off. But their attraction is too much to stand and they begin a no strings affair. This is a romance though and Nichole wonders if this might turn into an HEA.
This is an okay story; mostly pulled out of the two-star category because Garrett is an awesome hero. He backs off when Nichole asks him to and is not slow to figure out how to be an adult.

What a great story! I fell in love with the characters even though Garrett will have you shaking your head, but you'll love Nichole! 5 stars for this one!
Nichole is trying to keep her heart safe. After two failed engagements the last thing she's looking for is another failed relationship. She's afraid to let her heart get hurt again, and when her bestie mentions her brother, she's not interested! But one night out, she meets a guy, no names she says, and he's so hot and wow, but in true fashion, she finds out his name, it's Garrett, her besties brother. Can they keep it just hooking up, or will someone's heart get involved?
I loved this story from start to finish! I highly recommend this one!

Heart eyes and butterflies!
Awwww!!
Garrett is all about keeping it casual. Nothing serious. Ever.
Nichole has had only serious relationships and has been burned badly every time. Casual is just what she needs.
Garrett promises her casual and to keep her grounded so she doesn't go further and they can end it at any time. Sounds like a perfect plan.
Except Garrett doesn't realize his 'casual' is getting more boyfriendy/relationshipy each day which is starting to lead Nichole down a path she doesn't want to be on. And she knows he doesn't want that path either. Gah!
He's tempting and she's trying her best not to be tempted.
It's the clueless guy and the girl who is just trying to keep her heart and sanity intact.
Super cute story with just enough spice to tingle. Loved it!

Sweet & sexy

This was a sweet & sexy mistaken identity, best friend's brother romance. Both could use some help learning to navigate a casual relationship. Definite chemistry, hot but not over the top "alphaness", great foreplay but more closed door "finish", and nice character development and emotional growth.

Nichole has been out of the dating game for 3 years. After two failed engagements, she has no desire to get back out there again.

Garrett has finally gotten his life back after spending years taking care of others, then going to school.

When Nichole and Garrett meet at a party and sparks fly - Nichole tries to dip a toe back into the dating pool with a one night stand. But a single night with no complications? That’s the furthest thing from the truth.

Nichole and Garrett have a great chemistry but fall at different speeds. It’s not your typical best friend’s older brother story, but the timing seemed slightly off throughout. Still a good read.

Garrett has been living a life filled with responsibilities between his family, his business and school so he isn’t looking for love or a relationship but rather a fun night with a sexy stranger.

Even though Nichole’s romantic past has been problematic that doesn’t believe she doesn’t believe in love and happy ever after. When she spends the night with a sexy stranger she never expected to see him again let alone to find out they were connected in a way she never expected.

The chemistry between them was never in question but Garrett and Nichole are complete opposites when it comes to their views on relationships which causes some turmoil along the way.

Nicole decided to finally dive in and try a one night stand after suffering a broken heart. At a party, she finds the perfect man.

Garrett finds himself attracted to Nicole upon first meeting her and when she invites him back to her place, he jumps at the chance.

Little do they know, they have a mutual acquaintance. Nicole's best friend is Garrett's younger sister. While they know of each other, they had never met until now.

Garrett doesn't date his sisters' friends and Nicole doesn't want to jeopardize her friendship.

Will this keep them apart or will they put aside their fears and start something?

You'll have to read it to find out.

I'm trying to find words to do this book the justice. Nichole was strong despite her past. She was looking for a relationship but Garrett charmed his way into her life. I loved Nichole and I did like Garrett I swear. But I think I didn't fall heads over heals for him is that the whole time he was saying one thing and ended up doing 180 by the end of it. I believed the chemistry but something was missing for me. Maybe it was his way of only wanting to do casual or maybe it just my head was not in the right space to (properly) deal with Garrett and his charm. With that this one is getting a 3.5* rating.

Four and a half stars

Once Is Never Enough by Mira Lyn Kelly is about Nichole Daniels and Garrett Carter, who tumble into a thing before realizing that they aren’t actually strangers after all. Oops.

Mira Lyn Kelly takes those angsty emotions and dials them up to eleven! Garrett and Nichole promise each other some strings-free fun, except the strings are already kind of there, and aren’t getting any thinner…. If you’re looking for a super-responsible hottie who doesn’t really know how to be the carefree playboy when it’s someone who really matters, this is definitely the read for you!

Garrett and Nichole don’t really know each other, but are connected through Garrett’s younger sister, who is Nichole’s friend. That isn’t really a problem, not as much as Garrett’s playboy ways and Nichole’s desire to reject love based on some failed relationships. But what began as strings free fun became complicated with emotions, and both Garrett and Nichole have to figure out what they really want from each other and a relationship. I liked it.
