Thalia is twenty-one and has just finished her sophomore year of college, and is trying to avoid going home to her stifling parents who have a curfew of nine every night, and have a bad habit of treating her like she's still ten years old. Her new boyfriend, Liam, invites her to spend the summer with him and his family, so as she’s been unable to find a local job to keep her at college, Thalia jumps at the chance. Liam tells her that she can be his guest at his brother, Jack’s, wedding at the end of the summer.
Jack is twenty-five and feels as though he’s drowning. He’s engaged to Mia, against his will, because it’s always been drilled into him, family comes first. Jack’s studying for a law degree, and wants to go out on his own once he graduates, specializing in criminal law. His father wants him to accept a junior partnership in the law firm owned jointly by him and Lewis, his fiancées father, to practice family law.
Then he meets his brother’s girlfriend, Thalia, and he can’t get her out of his head. He needs her to keep her distance, because every time she smiles in his direction, he wants to carry her to his room and do really naughty things to her.
Then Saturday night arrives and Liam takes Thalia to a new bar that has opened on the outskirts of town, where she discovers Jack’s big secret. By day he’s the good looking, slightly older brother with a chip on his shoulder, who gives her hot looks, and by night he’s Phoenix, singer/guitar player for bad boy group ‘Deception’, who makes her sizzle to the core!
He has muscle. He has tattoos. He has piercings. He has a mouth that makes her panties wet every time he opens it. He is supposed to be getting married. He is also her boyfriend’s brother....
Read Thalia’s story in Sizzle, book one of Summer Bad Boy Rockers Series. Coming July 2013.

Sooo the name of the book intrigued me. Sexy rocker dude blah blah, that's the shit we girls like right???
Ohhhh so wrong.. Especially when the book starts off with Thalia who is sort of with Liam but isn't really with Liam because he wants to go slow but they hang out and he kisses her once but still invites her home for the summer?
Huh? Yeah that's what I was thinking. Thalia is supposedly soooo good looking like she was the next best thing after sliced bread yet Liam didnt want her?
Anyway she goes home with Liam and meets his brother Jack? Hell I cannot even remember the dudes name.
Jack sees Thalia sleeping and even though they have NEVER met he falls for for her and was attracted to her?
Then they meet and have a magnetic force!!!!??? But WAIT!!! Jack is engaged to some girl called Mia who he doesn't love.
Ps. Jack is smokkkking hot. Big rocker with abs that go on for years and a blue eyes...
Mia doesn't love Jack, this girl irritated me more!
So obviously Thalia is sooooo drawn to him....
"Tell me now there isn't anything between us."
They cannot stay away from each other...
"I’m not going to be around much. I need to keep my distance from you, because if I don’t, we’re both going to get hurt.”
Yay for Insta Love...
So well... This is up till 38% ...
I could not irritate myself more by this stage because after 48hrs they were questioning their futures?
"Holding his gaze I didn’t want to move, but I knew I couldn't stay out here with him. Standing up, he stood with me. "I need to go. This is wrong. I shouldn't feel like this when I'm with you. We only met forty-eight hours ago."
Anyway..
"I look for her too. I shouldn’t, but I do. Meeting Thalia has made me want things that I gave up ever hoping to have, twelve months ago; I’m so screwed.”
WTF? Based on the reviews, did I just read the same book as everyone else?
Tattoos, piercings, muscles all rolled into one hot rocker. Sounds promising, doesn’t it? Yeah, I thought so too.
**Warning: There may be spoilers ahead, however I doubt it since the whole storyline was pretty much mentioned in the ‘blurb’.
Jack, law student & golden boy by day, tattooed rock star by night, is engaged to be married to Mia (whom he doesn’t love), happens to be celibate since his engagement (really?), sees Thalia (his brother’s pretend gf) and instantly is in love. The book centers on his inability to grow balls and fight for what he wants (wouldn’t want him to represent me in court). The whole back and forth shit between “I love you” and “I can’t be with you” got old real fast.
Ugh, I know right?
Not going to lie, there were steamy moments here and there, but everything else fell flat. There was definitely potential for this book to be good, however between the total lack of storyline and connection between the characters, I was left disappointed.
I was provided with an advanced electronic copy of this book from the author in return for an honest review. This review will be also posted on Smokin’ Hot Book Blog on 10th August as a part of Sizzle Blog Tour.
First of all, I have to say that Sizzle’s cover is the biggest misunderstanding ever. It really does not go well with the story. It kind of looks like cover for cheap erotica novel aka porn without the plot and Sizzle is nothing like that. Yes, there is lot of steamy stuff going on, but it is not everything, Sizzle’s got amazing storyline and it would be shame if people wouldn’t give it a chance because of a cover. I know that, we girls like sexy cover with man candy on it, but in this case I was turned off. Sizzle cover did not make me swoon, it’s kind of bleh. But maybe it’s only me who doesn’t like it.
From start to finish Sizzle grabbed my attention and didn’t let it go. I was left completely happy, satisfied and overflowing with good emotions. It’s addictive, intruiging strory that will totally blow your mind, because of sneaky turns in plot, stunning romance and 10/10 points in hotness factor. It really is sizzling!
Thalia’s dating Liam, but they don’t have physical relationship. There is no spark between them and he is more like a friend to her, so when Liam ask her to go with him to his home in Alabama, she’s quite surprised, but because of her family situations she agrees.
In Alabama she meets Jack and her world turns upside down. The instant connection and sexual attraction they share, makes her heart beat faster and she knows she’s falling for this man. But there’s a big problem, Jack’s Liam brother who will be married in few weeks.
Jack is lonely. Forced to marry woman he doesn’t love and will never love, he struggles with sexual frustration, family who doesn’t respect him and… Thalia, girl who can’t be his. Add to the mix that he’s a lead singer of Deception, has amazing body art and pirced nipple and there is not a girl in this world who is not charmed.
Can two people who share deep connection not act on their feelings? Can they find a way to be together? How hard is fighting with your heart?
Read Sizzle and see how Thalia and Jack find love.
Sizzle is story about people who fell into trap of their own families and now struggle to find happiness. I adored this novel! Every page is filled with warm, fuzzy emotions that make you happy and swooning or the sorrow, frustration as well as lonliness and need for closure. And the fact this book is called Sizzle is not a coincidence! This book really can make you hot in a matter of seconds. Holly hotness!
Author definitely has her way with words, which I really admired. The alternating point of views made it a lot of easier to connect with characters and love them equally.
Lexi Buchanan done a great job! I literally cannot wait for Reece’s story! It’ll be as hot and as epic as Jack’s.
Sizzle lived up to my every expectation. Everyone should put this book on their ereader! I higly recommend Sizzle for all fans of hot romance here.
This is a great series opener, introducing a whole bunch of new characters which we are sure to enjoy during the series. This time it’s the turn of Jack (Phoenix) and Thalia who, rather unfortunately, goes to stay at Jack’s family’s house as the ‘girlfriend’ of his younger brother Liam. Their attraction to one another is incendiary and instant and they are going to find it extremely difficult to keep their hands off one anotherl To add to the confusion, Jack is engaged to be married to Mia and the wedding is just a few weeks away.
This one had the strange juxtaposition of mixing the modern world, rockers, piercings, tatts with very old world strong family values – Jack has been commanded by his father to marry Mia, to study law and to enter the family business. In fact, this whole path would have been far more suited to Liam who is secretly in love with Mia and Liam has managed to convince Thalia to pose as his girlfriend for the summer. What an incredibly tangled web they did all weave!!
I enjoyed this even though I seriously questioned some of the decisions made by the central characters. Jack is very much your tattooed, pierced rocker hiding beneath the respectable facade of law student soon to be lawyer but he’s like a bird with clipped wings – he needs to soar and the stifling repression by his father is crushing him emotionally.
Thalia is another character who’s really rather emotionally adrift – she desperately needs to love and be loved by someone special. Her own family are also a collection of cold fish. She thought Liam would be the one but there’s no spark – Jack does it for her on every level and she finds herself falling in love with him even though she fears she can’t be with him.
Along with Jack’s bandmates, Reece and Donovan, his brother Liam and Ryder, the ex-army Ranger and Jack’s fiance, Mia and Thalia’s best friend Callie, there’s a great host of secondary characters that help flesh out the rich tapestry of this sizzling hot world and promise some great sexy romances in the future.
Meet Jack!! He has muscle. He has tattoos. He has piercings. He is swoon worthy. He is every girls bad boy rocker dream come true. He is hotness overload.
So much more to this story than your average rock book, inhaled it, loved it, couldn't put it down!!
As she came dashing towards me, I whistled. She noticed Liam and Mia who still hadn’t come up for air, then launched herself at me. She wrapped her arms around my neck while my arms went to her hips, pulling her in close between my thighs. “Well it looks like the cocks finally have the right pussys,” Reece announced, shocking everyone into silence, until I roared with laughter.
Are you always so embarrassing?” Callie asked him, walking over and taking a seat at a table close to the bar. “What’s embarrassing about cocks and pussys?” Reece replied, sliding in beside Callie, a look of innocence on his face. “You’re kidding me right?” Callie complained. “Hey, babe. What you see is what you get.” Reece grinned. “Ugh. I think I need a drink,” Callie announced.
“You’re my brother’s girlfriend, and I’m engaged.” “I don’t understand.” The anger drained out of me as I moved closer to him. “I know you don’t, but you need to stay away from me, because I’m not sure I have the strength to stay away from you. There’s something about you…”
I added this book to my TBR a while back, anticipating its release. First off, who could resist this cover? Holy hotness! Second, the series title included the word rockers in it, so you know I couldn’t refuse. So when I searched Amazon and found out it was released, I was all over this.
I tore through this book in one day, but I have to confess that the last 30% of the book got a little annoying and I’ll tell you why in a little bit. For the most part, it was a good read and not as angsty as I thought it was; which was a relief by the way. Sometimes too much angst makes my blood pressure go up and I have no choice but to put it down and breathe. However, this story was actually far from angsty. Believe it or not, there wasn’t really any real cheating involved. Can you believe it? I mean, after reading the blurb, I thought for sure there was going to be an abundance, but nope, nada, zero, zilch -- no cheating. I don’t want to give anything away, but let me just say that the story could’ve been more complicated, and it was, but then again it wasn’t. LOL. Did you get that?
The one huge positive in the story was the Hero, Jack – VERY swoon worthy, and very honorable. Not to mention the fact that the man has got some tattoos and some well placed piercings **smirks**. Another positive is his band mates, Donovan and Reese. Holy shit, these guys are H.O.T. Just so you know, these guys are best friends, who like share things. Get my drift? Hot, hot, HOT! I’m seriously looking forward to their stories.
However, Jack and his crew can only take a story so far. There were a number of things that prevent me from giving this at least four stars. Here are a few minor negatives:
One: This wasn’t really a rock star story. It just so happened that Jack, Donovan and Reese played together. They’re not famous, yet. So I really wouldn’t consider this a rocker story.
Two: Welcome to reasoning behind why the last 30% of the book annoyed me. lol. For most of the story, Thalia, our heroine, referred to Jack as Jack. It wasn’t until later on when she found out he goes by the name of Phoenix on stage. From then on she referred to him by Phoenix. Yea. I wasn’t feeling that name, especially when she was screaming and moaning it. Yep. Definitely wasn’t feeling it.
Three: The reasoning behind the forced marriage was a little extreme, particularly on the bride’s father’s side. When I found out why he was so adamant on having Jack as a son-in-law, I was just like What?! That’s it? Really?! That’s pretty lame. To find out that all this drama was because of that was a bit of a let down.
All in all, the story was pretty entertaining. Plus the steam factor in this story is high on this one, too, so I wasn’t disappointed in that department. I’m definitely going to be on the look out for Reese’s story due out next year. But for now, I hope you guys enjoy Jack’s piercings…oh, umm, I mean… story. :)
My God!!! This book was so ridiculous! It's bad! Really bad! I don't even know where to start... Well, honestly, it started off pretty good. There's a bit of anticipation. Jack had this cool vibe and swagger going on. And Thalia was likeable. But after the first few chapters, everything went downhill. Their connection was not believable. It felt forced. No chemistry at all!
Jack always talked about his cock! His twitching dick! His hard cock! His throbbing cock! His pierced cock! My God! There were millions of "cock" and "dick" words in this story and billions of adjectives describing it!!! Talking about too much addiction and fixation with that piece of junk!!!
Thalia may be likeable at first. But she ended up as a boring character. She's also just as fixated with Jack's, yep, cock! After they had sex, she fell deeply in love... After they had tons of sex, he fell in love as well. And almost after each sex, they said "I love you"!!! And the word "F*ck" were said millions of times as well!!!
Ugh! I know some did like it. But it really didn't work for me. I'm not a prude. But it's just that a story even an erotic one needs to have sense.
Enjoy the cover ladies, as the rest of the book isn't that great. I really, really wanted to like this book, but couldn't get past the gratuitous use of the C-word, (throw a P-word in there every so often to change it up) and the fact that the guy was constantly using his fist instead of his hand. If you decide to read this you will know what I am talking about, as I'm trying to be clean.
Thalia is in college and doesn't want to go home for the summer as her parents are too controlling. She is semi-dating Liam and decides to go home with him. Liam and Thalia haven't kissed or done anything else, but say they are dating, I think. Weird from the start. So Liam warns Thalia that his family, mainly his brother, is a little different. Although they aren't dating, Liam asks Thalia to pretend that she is his girlfriend. Lost yet? It gets better.
Jack is Liam's older brother that is a walking erection, as in he always has one and is always talking about it. He is 26, so you would figure he is a bit more mature than that. Jack is being forced to marry Mia the daughter of his fathers business partner. He doesn't love Mia and doesn't want to marry her, but will loose his tuition if he doesn't. Jack sees Thalia and loves her instantly. Now I don't mind instant romance, but this one annoyed me for some reason. They were worried about each other way too fast and talking about how they miss each other after just being together, but not doing anything sexual.
So we are in this creepy love square of Liam, Thalia, Jack and Mia, what a mess. The writing seemed like the author was trying too hard to be hip and sexy. The sex scenes weren't that great and sometimes just over the top and gross.
This was a long drawn out book, I had a hard time finishing it. It is a bit misleading saying it is about a rock star, as that is some sort of secret Jack keeps. The icing on the cake was Thalia calling Jack by his stage name because it was soooo sexy. I found this book a bit cheesy and immature for my liking.
Between the cover and the blurb (gal falls for BF's brother who is engaged), I was excited for this one. The beginning had me interested but it didn't take long for this one to go downhill. The writing was atrocious. The sex scenes were not hot. . Another thing that bugged me was when something would happen and then one of the characters would go off and tell their friends, through dialogue, exactly what happened. So essentially, I would read it twice within a few pages. It also bugged me when Thalia called Jack 'Phoenix', i don't know...this seemed like kind of a stupid nickname. I mean I get the story behind the nickname but it just sounded weird to have her call him that. One of the biggest annoyances for me was the plot was just ridiculous. Everything tied up perfectly in the end and there was a lot of unnecessary drama. Really, just everything bugged me about this book and the way it was written. I won't be waiting for book 2, that's for sure.
Well, I'm not sure what happened to my original review of this book (probably for the best...), but I remember not being a fan of this story. I found that the characters were one dimensional and the story not well developed. It was all very juvenile. I remember doing a lot of this:
This is one of the rare books that is going to get a half star from me. My actual rating is 3.5.
I'll admit that prior to starting this book, I felt a book funk coming on. I hate that feeling, nothing was appealing to me. But once I read the description of this book, it started screaming at me. I started it immediately. What's not to love? A bad boy who's got tattoos and piercings. Throw in the fact that he's a musician (of the unfamous variety [image error]) and I'm hooked.
I wanted to love this book, and there were pars that I did love. But as I was reading, I couldn't help but think that while the premise was good, the execution was off. Things just didn't come together for me.
I really did like Jack until I hit somewhere near the 50% mark. Then he turned into an indecisive yo-yo and there's only so much I can take of that. By the end, I had lost interest and didn't care if he got his HEA. If I had been Thalia, I would have walked away from him.
Something else that bothered me was Thalia suddenly calling Jack by his former nickname (Phoenix). I didn't like the change and found it kind of cheesy. It just didn't fit. No one else called him that (anymore) and she didn't know him when they did call him Phoenix in the past.
There were also some inconsistencies with Jack's parents. They were set up as jerks from page one, then in the end they were completely ok with everything. Now, granted, it's nice to see supportive parents, but their actions didn't fit with the people I had come to know.
Even with my issues, I would read more from this author and more of this series. I can't wait to find out what happens to Reece and Donovan.
Thalia has went on a few dates with Liam but thinks of him more of a friend than a boyfriend but still accepts his offer to go home with him for the summer holidays.
Liam's brother Jack is getting pushed into marrying his fathers business partner's daughter Mia who he doesn't love. When Jack and Thalia meet sparks fly and they have an instant attraction but try to stay away from each other. This turns in a bit of a love square.
Jack is learning to be a lawyer but unknown to his family Saturday night he is lead singer Phoenix in a rock band called Deception along with his 2 best friends Reece and Donavan.
Will the wedding go ahead?
I loved SIZZLED from the very begining and by chapter 2 I knew it was going to be a fantastic read and I wasn't wrong....
Jack really got under my skin he has a smoking hot body with tattoos and piercings (one in particular that I loved more) He is a soft hearted loveable man. I really liked the characters and especially Jack, Donavan and Reece. What I would give to be in that little store room with the 3 of them....
Poor Jack spent most of the book with massive boners but when there was sex or sexual encounters it was really hot .
Another really great read that I have had the pleasure of reading, Big thanks to Lexi for giving me an ARC copy in exchange for an honest review. I am really looking forward to reading Reece and Donavan's stories I'm thinking they will be really hot reads.
I am giving Sizzle 5 stars for Amazon and 5 stars for Goodreads
OK...I had so many mixed feelings while reading this, that I felt like I needed to be on meds for bi-polar disorder! I loved, hated, despised, loathed, admired, and just plain out wanted to throat punch some of the characters all at once!! Sizzle has a HAWT cover, it is a rock star romance... so I thought that it would be purrrrfect for me! However, one of the main characters almost ruined this book for me.
I loved Thalia. She is a good natured, sweet, like-able, friendly, girl next door. She comes from a family with money, but doesn't act like it. She works hard, studies hard, and has goals. She agrees to go home with a friend for the summer and pretend to be his girlfriend. Little does she know that there is a major shit storm waiting to explode when she gets there!
Jack is the typical bad boy... by looks and outer appearance. He is trying to be the golden boy in his family, going to law school, doing what his dad wants, marrying the girl his dad says to, and hiding his true self! He know his brother is coming home from college for the summer and is bringing his girlfriend, but little does he know that the girlfriend is a pretend one and he is about to fall head over heels.
Now this sounds like a basis of an amazing book... girl meets boy, they become friends, she agrees to go home with him for the summer and pretend to be his girlfriend, girl meets pretend boyfriend's brother who is engaged and falls head over heels in love... however, that is where the confusion for me started. I loved the concept of the story. I loved the hotness of Jack... tatted up rocker with nipple ring... I loved the writing... it was Jack that rubbed me the wrong way. His wishy washy, back and forth, no back-bone really wore on me. I liked him, but I just could not get over the fact he was so weak. I understood where the author was coming from on making him want to please his family and the blackmail that was going on... but he just did not do it for me as an Alpha male.
With all of that being said, I still devoured this book. It sucked me in enough that I had to finish it and see where Jack and Thalia landed. I wanted to choke them both at times and really wanted to HURT Mia, but I still could not put it down. I give Sizzle 3.8 stars on the knock my socks off scale... I think if Jack would have been more Alpha I could have definitely given this a 4 or 4.5. Still... it is a great summer read!
i sooo wanted to love this book and it started out ok too but it went from bad to worse in a matter of pages and there were so many inconsistencies...initially the parents were acting suspiciously and it didn't go anywhere...
This was me from around the middle of the book to the end:
Don't get me wrong, this book was great...until it reached the part where Thalia and Jack have their first "almost sex". From there, it went to complete shit for me. So...let's talk about characters.
Thalia Girl. I liked you in the beginning. I was rooting for you to come out as Jack's women in the end somehow until you became a sex fiend. I liked Thalia from the beginning to middle of the book because she didn't have any qualities that bothered me until her more of her true character started showing starting after the almost sex scene. I didn't like that practically after almost every single event that happened she'd have sex/think about sex with Jack.
Jack breaks your heart & comes back minutes later and apologizes --> Has sex in storage room. Could've been bitten by a snake --> Has sex with Jack after the danger is over. Liam & Jack leave to break important news to the parents --> Tells Callie she should get Liam to get a dick piercing like Jack. Almost fell into a river that could've drowned and killed her --> Talks dirty to Jack as they make their way to warm up with sex.
There are many more sex scenes, but these are the ones that irked me the most/could name at the top of my head. Besides being unbelievably horny, Thalia's love for Jack fell a little bit flat for me. I could see why she would develop feelings for him in the beginning (caring about her fear of being in the water and comforting her), but other than that and I can't see anything else fueling her "love" for him other than lust and sympathy. If she's not thinking of how sexy he is, she's pitying his situation with his family. I guess Jack's decision to take all the heavy responsibility away from his brother contributed to her falling in love with him, but I don't think it's enough for her to declare that she's completely fallen for him. Also, how could you fall for Rebecca's bullshit about Jack being across the river? FOR CRYING OUT LOUD YOU EVEN SAID THAT JACK WOULD NEVER DO THAT KNOWING YOUR FEAR AND YOU STILL DO IT ANYWAYS? SMH. It was like watching a horror movie where even though the family finds out the place is haunted, they decide to investigate and not gtfo when there's obviously some freaky shit going on.
Jack I don't care how sexy you are or how good you are in bed, you annoy me. Like Thalia, I liked you in the beginning. But as soon as you persistently kept throwing that bullshit spiel about loving her but being unable to cancel the wedding, the idea of slapping you silly in my mind was getting more and more tempting. Yes your dad is blackmailing you so it's understandable why you can't easily get out of this wedding, but don't be a douche canoe and say "I love you, but I can't" in the same damn sentence. Either say you can, you can't, or you're trying. Your flip flopping on "yes I'll cancel! no I can't cancel! Maybe I can cancel!" was bugging me to no end. MAKE UP YOUR MIND! There weren't any drastic changes that excuse your flip flopping decision (except for the info Rebecca told Lewis). Seriously Jack, you change your mind about things like a girl changes clothes. You break Thalia's heart one minute and repair it the next...sometimes I think the song Hot 'N Cold by Katy Perry was made for you.
“You’re saying Lewis lied to us? Why would he tell us it was Thalia if it wasn’t? He had the information to use against me, he didn’t need to use Thalia’s name,” I questioned.
Donovan sighed. “I don’t know. Liam said he felt there was more going on than what you all realized. Tell me honestly, do you really believe Thalia went behind your back?”
“No… God I was a bastard. How could I do that to the woman I love?” I ran my hands through my hair, hoping to find inspiration. “I was so mad. I didn’t stop to think. I just acted. I’ve fucked up.”
How I read the passage:
"Lewis, the man forcing his own daughter to marry a man she doesn't love, most likely wouldn't lie. If he mentioned Thalia's name it must be her since there's no other possible logical explanation."
"Maybe there is? You don't know everything."
"You're right! I messed up! Woe is me."
I'm exaggerating here (with my interpretation anyways, the passage you see there is what you get), but since I wasn't in good standing with the book by the time this passage came up, I couldn't keep these thoughts away.
As for characters, the only ones I didn't despise/wasn't annoyed with were Callie, Donovan, and Ryder. I hate Liam and Jack's parents because of their treatment towards Jack (btw, anyone else thing it was kind of ridiculous that they're suddenly better parents once the skeletons come out of the closet?). I was annoyed with Reese because of his treatment towards Callie after getting a call from Dahlia when he lectured Jack about treating a woman right when he has feelings for. I thought it was a bit ridiculous that Liam married Mia and that Mia accepted. Yes you guys have known each other since you were probably babies, but considering you guys lost contact during the beginning of college and for the next 3 years, who know how much you guys have changed? I know college doesn't change everyone, but I'm sure it must have made you at least a little bit different in some way. I don't like Mia accepting the proposal not because I don't want them to be together, but because I think they should date for a while instead of jumping into marriage when they've only had a few weeks to reconnect. Sure a guy could do a complete 180 and become a better man, but I think Mia should've been at least tested their relationship longer to make sure Liam doesn't run out on her again when he can't comprehend his deep feelings for her. If you really love someone, you can wait. As for Rebecca, I obviously hate her because she's a psychotic bitch (seriously Mia, when she pushed Thalia into the pool, told you some things that freaked you out, framed Thalia, learned that she "happened" to catch Jack at Kix you need to call the men in white coats). Lewis is just complete shit for making/trying to get his daughter to marry his daughter to someone she doesn't love. I don't care if you did it to get revenge on Liam for hurting her, that revenge is bull shit if it causes your daughter even more misery. And really? 3 years of vengeance and suddenly he's completely apologetic after 3 days?
The basics of the plot were predictable. The mentioning of the bridge and Liam's "past" crush on Mia were obviously (or at least obvious if you've read enough Romance novels) foreshadowing future events. What I couldn't predict was how much I'd end up not liking this book even though I was desperately hoping to in the beginning. As for whether I'll continue the next book in the series, that's up for debate since I'm afraid I'll hate Reece as much as I dislike Jack and Thalia.
Overall, this book was just bleh for me. I gave it a 2 star rating because I enjoyed half of it and only liked a few parts for the 2nd half. Based on the results, I guess I'm in the minority who didn't fully enjoy this book. If you haven't read the book and for some reason decided to read my review that's full of spoilers, I'd recommend the book to you if you enjoy New Adult books that have romance and sex, but lean a hair more towards sex.

This is the first installment of the Bad Boy Rockers series. I’ve never read a book by Lexi Buchanan before, and this does not disappoint. The sex was hot, the story was entertaining, and the hero, well just look at that cover and tell me what you think!! HA!HA! He was absolutely SIZZLING!! The story is narrated back and forth between the two main characters...starting with Thalia’s POV. Then we’re introduced to Jack, a.k.a “Phoenix”. He’s magnificent! And, Thalia’s quite the “character” as well. She initially decides to go to her “boyfriend’s” house to spend the summer since her parents are always trotting around the globe. And, when she gets there, ay carumba, she meets Liam’s brother, Jack. He’s off-the-charts gorgeous and right away there’s instant attraction between the two. Now I know that their insta-love thing is a little unbelievable since it happened within a few days, but it seemed okay for it to be played out that way. Afterall, Jack has the body, the eyes, and the smile to bring Thalia to her knees...literally. And, the tattoos, piercings and bad boy rocker image was just icing on the cake. Jack, while trying to keep parts of his life secret, just seemed so smitten with Thalia too that I couldn’t help but feel for the poor guy. She was untouchable to him, and he just couldn’t seem to stay away from her. LUST. LOVE. CAPTIVATION. Whatever you wanted to call it, was knocking on both their doors. And, the complications that it brought with it was sadly upsetting and unnecessary. Of course, once they get everything settled, Jack puts his big foot in his big mouth and breaks Thalia’s heart. But, who’s to say that everything can’t be fixed? With a supporting cast of characters who are just as fabulous as the main characters, the author sets up their future stories to be told by introductions that just further interest the reader. Jack’s friends, Donovan and Reece, are just as panty-melting as Jack himself. And, Thalia’s best friend, Callie, was funny and appealing as hell.
The writer moves the story along pretty fast-paced as each chapter’s end just had me witnessing possibly more “action” to be evoked and secrets to be dropped. The relationship between family members seemed to be considerably strained when doing what was expected of them instead of actually following their heart. But, as the story moves along, there comes a time when reality sets in and choices most assuredly have to be made. I just had to finish this novel early this morning and find out what the outcome would be. And, I was truly satisfied with the way the author ended it and left the door wide open and wondering what was going to happen in the next installment of this series. Great characters. Fabulous storylines. And, the hot romance was enough to make the reader “SIZZLE”!!!
AND, THAT GLORIOUS COVER JUST PLEADED WITH ME TO READ IT! DAMN! SO FRIGGIN’ TORTUROUS...(sigh)!!!
Holy sh*t! Look at that DELICIOUS cover! So yummy! ...
"Sizzle" was an okay yet enjoyable read where I devoured it in one sitting. I really liked how evenly paced it was and how easy it was to digest.
The main thing, if anything, that bothered me was the characters. Gah!! If there's two things I often hate reading in books it's when there's characters like these:
1) Meddlesome parents who force their own agenda on their children. 2) A love at first sight connection (since it's so cliche!) between the main guy and girl. And when the characters finally get together they act like love sick puppies! How nauseating!
As for the plot and the story line well....it's pretty simple and self-explanatory if you've read the synopsis. There isn't much to really expand from there.
Over all, a delicious read but don't expect too much from it. And is it kind of bad when you feel as if the hottest smutt scene didn't even involve the main characters? I'm talking about in the beginning when Jack/Phoenix's friend are doing a threesome with a girl in the beginning and she ends up spreading this strawberry flavoring on her down there area and Jack's friend ends up *treating* her with his mouth. How hot!!
I know I sound wrong for making that comment and that it makes me a pervert but I can't help myself!! I'm not saying that there wasn't any sizzling sex scenes between Jack and Thalia since there were...BUT this just really caught my attention and stayed there! Lol.
Anyways guys, I'm sure most of you will love "Sizzle" so go ahead and read it. I can't wait for "Spice" now but too bad it doesn't come out till January 2014! :(
I was lucky enough to get an ARC of this book & by Christ am I thankful.
This book was hot & steamy all the way through. It was hard reading Thalia & Jack's relationship grow but on hold at the same time, if you read it you will understand! They clearly loved each other but couldn't do anything about it at first.
Took me long to finish this, it wasn't getting my attention... Story was going back and forth... It wasn't that good really, but then again, it was hot.
Ok so I admit I picked this book up purely based on that HOT cover! - Well no, that's a lie. The description sparked my curiosity also.
Obviously not that many people have reviewed this book so I didn't bother scanning through them to see what the reactions were. Now that I have however, it would seem I'm one of the few who DIDN'T like this book.
Thalia and Liam are kind of dating, but not really. There's no attraction between them at all. Liam offers Thalia the chance to go with him back to his home in Alabama for the break. She accepts. Now why would she do such a thing?
Liam's older brother Jack has a very strained relationship with his parents. Acting the 'Golden boy'. playing the part. Being forced into a marriage he doesn't want and a career path he despises.
The moment Jack sees Thalia asleep on the bed in the room adjoined to his, he was screwed. OH NO! " You need to stay away from me, because I'm not sure I have the strength to stay away from you. There's something about you..."
You met like 5 minutes ago, and haven't even had a conversation, yet "There's something about you.."
"Insta Love?" Ugh.
As the story goes on Thalia and Liam finally find even ground in their relationship deciding that they're just friends.
Meanwhile Thalia and Jack end up going round and round in circles. The conversations (If that's what you call them) were exactly the same, just on a different bloody day.
This is how it goes on for which seems like forever...
The only characters that actually made any impression on me were Donovan and Reece. My review would probably of been praising if the story wasn't just revolving around a relationship, and I actually finished it. 92% I reached, and I couldn't even make it to the end.
Thalia has been going out with Liam for six months. She's curious as to why he's not attempted to even kiss her other than a peck on the cheek. Then he asks her to go home with him for the summer vacation when college finishes.
Thalia is keen to do so as her parents are very controlling and treat her like a small child even though she's in her twenties. Before they arrive at Liam's family home he asks her would she mind pretending to be his girlfriend! Once they arrive she is immediately attracted to Liam's older brother Jack, but he's engaged to be married to Mia.
This had the potential to be a five star read. But, there were things that lowered my rating. When Liam asks her to pretend to be his girlfriend, wasn't she already that? But Thalia doesn't say anything. Then there was the relationship with Jack, within 24 hours they were in love, but Jack is getting married in a few weeks. I don't much like cheaters, he is being forced to marry Mia by his parents, really! He's 26 years old, this guy blew hot and cold all over the place with Thalia, yes he would call off the wedding, then no he couldn't, I got whiplash! What he really needed to do was man up. There were more twists and turns to this story than a maze! The writing was okay if a little immature. I initially wanted to read this as it's touted as a Rockstar romance, no it isn't. Note to the author, Jack has always wanted a horse, and to call it Trigger after the Lone Ranger's horse, Trigger was Roy Rogers Horse, Silver was the Lone Rangers Horse.
When I first read the synopsis for this book I could not wait to own it. I lost track of it because it had not been released at that point recently I found it again and wow am I glad I bought it. The characters in this book make you want to slap them at times, hug them on others, and cheer for HEA's. Jack and Mia are in an arranged marriage for almost the last 12 months. Liam and Thalia met in college tried dating but neither of them felt a spark of anything other than friendship but Liam doesn't want a bunch of women forced on him by his matchmaking mom. So they agree to pretend to be dating all the while Jack and Thalia are getting closer and closer and are beginning to not be able to control what is happening between them despite the consequences. This book is full of ups and downs and it is about 2 couples who are with the wrong person. I would recommend this book to anyone and everyone
It took me three attempts at starting this book before I just went for it. I regret that I did. The story wasn't even soap opera quality, the characters were bland and the dialog was just terrible. I don't like to give bad reviews but this book just wasn't up to par. I had hoped for at least a slightly better story than I got. I can say my least favorite in the book was Thalia and every time she said the name "Phoenix" I wanted to puke. Very disappointing book. I have no desire to read any more from this series.
2.5 actual stars..! This book was good in the starting. But everything was so fast and cofusing! tey fell in love with just two days! and lots of unnecessary dramas going on with them! I just glanced through the last 20 pages!! The book cover and the snyposis looked good. It was hot but not that sizzling hot for me!
DNF at 60%. I just couldn't continue-wasn't enjoying it and it was only getting worse. I really wanted to like this but there was something about the plot, the couple's "connection", the pace of the story....It was just not working for me. None of these things were great in my opinion.
