A fresh start was irrelevant when the dark things in your past were always following you.

Jos has changed. She was the perfect student, perfect daughter, perfect sister. But now, everything has different. No one knows why, but Jos does. She’s lost someone important to her and she can’t help but blame herself. Her mother sends her to live with her sister Renee to try to straighten her out. She needs a fresh start, a new beginning. There, she meets the gang. Jos is closed off. She meets people that help bring her out of her shell. One is her new bff, Hannah. And then there is Dusty.

Dusty has some issues, like Jos. He’s not forthcoming about himself or his issues. He and Jos both have made mistakes in the past, and both are trying to move on. Dusty befriends Jos, but that sexual tension is always lingering in the background. They both start to develop feelings for one another, but neither is willing to act on it. It gets frustrating.

This book had a slow start for me. It didn’t pick up until after the half way point, but once it did, I became more invested with Jos and Dusty and started to enjoy it more. Once Dusty and Jos started to admit their feelings, I couldn’t put the book down.

My Sweetest Escape photo d03955aa-a45a-47e9-9f61-23a932f82343_zps71f702b2.jpg

Dusty and Jos have an attraction and definete chemistry, but it runs deeper than that. Dusty knows Jos has gone through something hard, and he wants to help her. To heal her.
“Let me help you. Let me help you carry it. We can do it together, Jos. I want to be with you.”

Neither Jos nor Dusty could ever imagine the connection the two share. When both of their secrets come to light, and they see how truly intertwined their pasts are, will they be able to deal?

We are stronger than what happens to us. You can’t let it define you. The fucked-up parts of you are just that. Parts.

This was a little heavy, a little funny and a little angsty. The characters were beautifully broken and helped each other to heal. Dusty was a reformed bad boy. I loved his sweet side. Jos was a likable character, even if she was a little depressing at times.

I enjoyed catching up with all the characters from My Favorite Mistake. Hunter, Taylor, and the rest of the gang. We also get introduced to a new character named Hannah. She brought the book to life with her sense of humor and fun loving nature. She gave the story so many laugh out loud moments, it was great.
“Gorgeous. If I had a dick, I’d totally do you.”
“That’s the nicest thing anyone’s ever said to me.”

Even though I didn’t love this as much as My Favorite Mistake, it was still a nice NA read.

Dusty and Jos both have secrets. But will their secrets bring them closer together or tear them apart?

Things that irritated me: Renee and her over controlling behaviour was suffocating. Jos acted like a moody teenager and I didnt feel any growth in her character. I found all the side characters all sickenly happy, considering you have 3 couples all living together.

For a 3 star Im trying to think of something I like but....nope, nothing. This book was a slow burner and I felt like nothing exciting happened. I think this sequel is similar to book 1 but this book just wasnt for me x

Jos Archer used to be the perfect girl, perfect grades, bright future; it was all mapped out for her until it wasn't. When an event has her spiraling out of control her sister, Renee steps in. Now, for those that don’t remember Renee from My Favorite Mistake, she was Taylor’s friend and Roommate.

Being forced to leave her college in New Hampshire to move in with Renee and the gang (Yep, they are all there – Taylor, Hunter, Paul, Mace, Renee and Darah) in Maine and transfer schools. This way Renee can keep a close eye on her sister and hopefully figure out what triggered her sudden change.

But Jos isn't ready to let anyone in or expose her secret. But that isn’t as easy as it seemed when Dusty Sharp enters her life and doesn’t seem to be in any hurry to leave.

Dusty has his own past that left him a changed man, but his change allowed him to escape his own destruction. He’s finally in a better place, making the right choices and finding it difficult to stay away from the one girl he shouldn’t want.

It had been so long since I had read My Favorite Mistake that I had to skim through the last few pages to get my mind in the right place for this read. But as it turns out it really wasn't needed. Since the whole gang returns it was pretty easy to fall right back into this story as Chelsea Cameron gives a bit of back-story with each of the characters. I loved getting a glimpse into Taylor & Hunter again after all these months along with the other characters.

The story was a slow starter for me, it seemed to take forever to get to the point where Dusty and Jos were ready to admit their attraction and even longer to discover what her secret was. But once I hit the halfway point, everything started to fit together and I started to really enjoy the story.

I was frustrated with Renee’s behavior throughout this entire story though. As the big sister I can see where her worry came from, but without really having been able to watch the perfect version of Jos crash & burn, it seemed a bit over the top. I think had we seen more of the way Jos was losing control Renee’s behavior would have made more sense. Instead I was frustrated with the constant lack of trust and unreasonable rules placed on an eighteen year old girl by someone just a few years older. Having that left out had an impact in the story for me overall.

Dusty was a likable character that too had his share of screw ups in his past, having an event becoming the catalyst for change and the way it was all tied together with the event that led Jos down the opposite path was unexpected and added to the story, to their story.

This was a very sweet coming of age romance that stayed true to the style in which My Favorite Mistake was written.

Arc received via NetGallery in exchange for an honest reivew.

3 or a little more ***
This is book 2 in Chelsea Cameron's My Favorite Mistakes series and I will admit I really liked book one, but I was not completely blown away by this one.

Jos Archer suffers loss and changes her very being. A one-time straight A classy gal is now skipping class and "living on the edge." Enter very annoying and overbearing sister who brings her to Bangor Maine to live and attend a new school. Nothing is getting through to this sad and quite bitchy gal. Well, nothing that is until a quirky yet sexy music man, Dusty Sharp appears in her life. He seems to be around every turn and his very presence is finally getting emotion out of her.

Dusty Sharp is an enigma to Jos. He likes her presence, he enjoys flirting with her, and most importantly he is determined to draw out her sadness. Dusty isn't so straight or narrow himself as he too has his own past darkness and mistakes. What neither is prepared for is just how intimately close their past mistakes are or how maybe it was pure divine intervention that led them to another!

Ok, so the plot seems awesome right? Yes it is, but the main problem for me what the really long time it took to develop. I liked by Jos and Dusty, but their tale was overshadowed by all the trivial roommate talk and unrelated read. I was dying for these two to just let go...unfortunately I was way past the 75% mark before I got my fix!

I just wanted more...more character connection, more intimacy, and more angst...not so much bitchy characters, unrelated roomie tales, and a somewhat so-so OMG moment!

Setting: College
HEA: Yes
Love Triangle: No

Similar to the first book you are introduced to a the main character Jos who has a dark secret and isn't willing to share it. And that is where the mystery lay for the entire book; you keep reading thinking What happened?! For the Love of GOD tell me! But she doesn't and you don't figure it out for quite a while. Talk about frustrating.

What I loved about Jos is that similar to book 1 she was feisty, takes no sh!t and could definitely hold her own. I love a strong female lead and Jos had it locked down in that area.

What I really liked about this book is it's accuracy about growing up and finding yourself. So many teenagers and adults in college start off doing what they believe will satisfy everyone around them, what is expected of them because they should and not what they want to do, what makes them happy.

Sometimes it takes a tragic event to bring life into perspective. It is, in the end YOUR life, YOU have to do what makes YOU happy. Yes, think of the consequences. Yes, be responsible but by all means Carpe Diem... "YOLO"

For a first reads there were practically no errors grammatically or structure wise.

If you are looking for steamy hot action it's not in this book. There are a few rated R moments and only one scene at the end so don't go into it looking for that. It is more YA.

A fresh start was irrelevant when the dark things in your past were always following you.

So I was a little disappointed when I realized that I didn't know either main character leading into this book. But it didn't take long for me to get over my disappointment because I easily become absorbed into Jocelyn and Dusty's secrets.

I loved how both characters are becoming a new person, trying to leave their past selves. What I wasn't expecting was for their pasts to be so interconnected.

Joss has been keeping herself from living her life. After what happened a year ago, she didn't feel like she deserved happiness. But Dusty is a beacon of light in her life and whenever he's around, she can't help but step outside her carefully crafted shell.

But here comes my favorite character: HANNAH!!! If you read this book, read it to meet Hannah!! Holy crap. I loved her. I loved her friendship with Joss. I want to see Hannah with a happy ending! Chelsea, help a girl out and make it happen, will yeah?

So I will give you a fair warning. Renee, Joss's sister is a bit exhausting playing Mama Bear. It was a bit OTT in my opinion, but it didn't effect my focus on getting to the bottom of Joss and Dusty's issues.

I really enjoy reading about a couple overcoming tragedy and carrying each other burden together. Dusty and Joss's relationship is a beautiful example of this and it made my heart soar.

Meine Gedanken:

No way!

4 Estrellas!!

was so hoping it was going to follow Hunter and Taylor and everyone after they moved into the house. I loved those characters. My Favorite Mistake is one of my favorite college romance books...so I guess I was just hoping for more.
I just finished FOR REAL by this same author and thought it was just ok...didn't like it nearly as much as MY FAVORITE MISTAKE...so I'm not sure what I'll think about this next book.

Joscelyn has been shipped off by her mother to live with her sister Renee and her friends in Maine. Since starting college Jos has gone from being laser-focused on school and her future to partying with her friends. Nobody is more concerned by that than her sister Renee who now feels like she no longer knows the one sibling she is closest to. Living with her sister and her friends puts Jos under close scrutiny by all her housemates and a boy named Dusty keeps showing up at the house and around campus. It seems like she can't avoid him no matter where she is, but soon she doesn't want to. It's obvious to everyone that Jos is hiding something painful, something that has caused the changed in her and that keeps her closed off. Dusty, knowing what it's like to hide a dark and painful secret, tries to coax Jos out of her shell and in doing that they slowly fall in love. But will their love be strong enough when both of their secrets are revealed, secret that are connected to each other in ways neither Jos not Dusty realize.

I really enjoyed My Sweetest Escape. It's a quick read and keeps you captivated by its story even if you don't exactly love the main character like I did. I liked Jos but I didn't love her. I felt for her and her pain, it was pretty obvious something serious happened to make her the way she is now. The whole time reading it I was burning with curiosity over Jos's past. I loved how there was a lot more to Jos than what was portrayed in the first couple of chapters, she's not actually just a party girl who lost her way. For the first time in her life she's actually enjoying life and pursuing new interests. But she's been critisized by so many people that she doesn't dare show the real Jos to anyone.

But what started to bother me about her a quarter of the way into the book was that she never stood up for herself when she had all the right to do so. Sure, going from straight A student to a partier who on the outside doesn't care about anything would concern any family member, but she was being treated like she was a drug dealer with a serious alcohol problem. Renee especially seemed to overreact in my opinion and it was those moments when she was trying to control every aspect of Jos's life that pissed me off when Jos just went with it. I guess the root of my problem was how overbearing Renee was and Jos just letting her have her way all the time.

I really like Dusty. I love his witty come backs and how he's a tough alpha guy like Hunter but doesn't really show it unless he has to. Because of that he's not as overbearing like some of the other male characters with the same personality traits. I love how patient and gentle he was with Jos, always taking care of her without her even knowing. But the real highlight of this book was Hannah. She's such a wonderful character, always upbeat with a repertoire of funny lines in spite of the way she's treated by people and the horrific thing that happened to her as a child. She never lets others put her down by long and she's an amazing friend to Jos. I enjoyed her and her spirit a lot.

My Sweetest Escape is a great opportunity to get caught up on all the characters from the previous book and even though it's not as good as My Favorite Mistake, this book was still a very enjoyable, fun and quick read, with some angst and deep seeded issues that give the story depth.

Cosa è successo a Jos molti mesi prima, cambiandola così drasticamente?

Stavolta però no. Non li ho sopportati entrambi!

”The truth is the most beautiful thing there is, because it’s the most real.”

I’ve been wanting to continue this series for a while and now I finally got the chance.
I didn’t know this would be about secondary characters but I loved it!
Tbh, I only connected with the story after a few chapters.. the beginning is a little slow and it took me a while to be interested in the story but after the middle it’s really good.
I actually almost cried at the almost end. It’s just so beautiful.

This is a story about loss and guilt and how love can heal everything if you allow it.
It was incredible to see the crew again at the house. I really enjoyed reading it and can’t wait to read the next book, following up on Hunter and Taylor.
