Dani refuses to lose another parent due to her absence from their life. After pulling herself back together following the death of her father, she moves back to her childhood town to live with her mom. She’s slowly pulled back into the lifestyle she worked so hard to get away from ten years ago. She accepts that this is the life she has always been destined to live. Getting a job at the store down the road and hooking back up with her first love Gage, seems to be the logical way to go…that is until she meets Holden Reynolds.
Now that Holden is finally back home from the Navy he plans on following in his father’s footsteps. Still trying to move on from the one woman who had his heart, he busies himself in work and returning to the country boy lifestyle he’s always loved. The best way to get over someone is to get under someone, right? That’s his mindset as he travels town to town with his job perfectly content with being a rambling man…that is until he meets Danielle Brooks.
When Dani isn't leaving and Holden isn't staying will they be able to keep themselves from getting too attached? Or will they be just what each other needs to cut all the strings that have them bound?

Save Me From Me by Erika Ashby felt like I was watching a Lifetime movie. This book is one of those cute and sweet story but with mix of sass and angst thrown into the mix. If I had to describe this book it’s a modern day country romance story. It is one love story where you were left rooting for Holden and Dani to get their happily ever after. With a title, Save Me From Me, readers are left with the questions: Is it wrong to settle? Can love really save us?
Danielle Brooks, aka Dani, left her small town life once she graduated high-school leaving behind her ex-lover, Gage. Escaping to the city, Dani hoped to make a new life where she could leave her small town roots in order to find herself. As ten years passed, she feels obligated to move back home to be closer to her mother since the passing of her father. She can only be described as one fierce, tough independent free-spirited country girl, who isn’t afraid to call out anyone’s bullshit. In other words, she is one girl whom you don’t want to mess with. But behind the tough facade, Dani still is a hopeless romantic. She is looking for the one who will challenge and make her heart skips a beat.
Moving back Dani finds herself falling back to old routines of her small hometown life. Her old flame, Gage still holds onto the notion and hope that they will get back together. As much as Dani loves him, the love she has for him can only be described as a love for a best friend. Gage will always have a special place in her heart but when she left him 10 years ago, she wanted a LOVE that doesn’t feel like settling. Settling is one thing Dani wants to avoid. She doesn’t want to feel trapped and tied down.
When Holden Reynolds, a former Navy comes and moves into a town for a couple of months for a job site, he sets his eyes on Dani. Both Dani and Holden have this instant attraction to one another. What started off as playful flirting and teasing, Dani and Holden soon find themselves in a relationship. Knowing each other for a short time, they instantly formed a strong connection and bond. They understood each other’s wants and needs. Without having to say much, their chemistry was palpable. They soon find themselves falling in love with each other but with old exes and family obligations standing in their way, can their love be enough?
Save Me From Me is the first book I read from Erika Ashby and I was not disappointed. Ms. Ashby left me rooting and understanding for the two men in Dani’s life since both men loved her so much and would do anything for her. Save Me From Me is not only a girl finding love but its also about finding yourself and letting go of the past. Maybe we don’t have to look far to find oneself..maybe the answers to our happiness can be found in place we call HOME surrounded by our loved ones and maybe love can really save us. So if you are looking for a fun sassy and romantic story, look no further and read this book.

Rating: 4 stars
Save Me From Me is the first novel I've ever personally had the honor of reading by Erika Ashby. After hearing so many good things about her work, reading amazing reviews, hearing other authors rave about her- I had to push at least one of her books to the top of my list. Sooo, sooo glad I did! What an emotional ride I felt throughout reading this! All my fellow romance novel lovers, this book is for you- Ms. Ashby blew my expectations out of the water. The whole pissing excellence thing must be an Erika thing (my name is Erika, too)! Lol, just kidding. ;)
Anyway...
Danielle Brooks, also known as Dani, is a 27 year old strong, independent, won't take shit from anybody, hot hopeless romantic struggling with finding herself, trying to figure out what she wants to do with her life, while battling with finding her happily ever after. Her high school boyfriend, her first love- Gage, and Dani are reunited when Dani moves back to her hometown after the passing of her father. Gage, unable to get over the love he has for Dani, tries to revive the passionate relationship they once had.
Dani meets Holden Reynolds when she meets her brother at a local bar for a fun night out. Although her original connection with Holden is rare and disturbing, she can't keep him out of her mind. They develop a strong liking to each other, launch an erotic, hot relationship and fall madly in love. Holden's job forces him to move around often so they plan to move together once he has to relocate. Until one day, everything changes. After a rude confrontation between Dani and Holden's father, she takes off and never looks back, leaving Holden completely hanging.
Will Holden get over Dani and move on to bigger and better things? Will Dani finally give in to Gage and commit to a relationship with him like they had before? Dani being so stubborn and selfless works against her relationships with friends and family, so will she ever be able to worry about her OWN hopes and dreams instead of everyone elses? So with all love stories with two men fighting over the same woman we readers develop teams. I'm sure with his story in particular MOST readers would root for Team Holden. However, I've always had a hard-on for the underdogs so I'm totally Team Gage. He's a battered, gorgeous, troubling young man who needs help in many aspects of his life BUT he loves Dani! He's willing to fix all of his problems, work hard, support, love, and nuture her- all the while starting his life over. He sooo has my vote! I know, I'm a softy and probably mentally screwed in some twisted, distorted way.
Having a boyfriend (who I'm still in a happy, 5 year relationship with) that worked in the gas/oil field industry at one time, I know how it feels to move around and all of the time and devotion that comes along with the job- so this book really hit home for me. I also know all about exes getting involved with present relationships because of the inability to 'get over it' (its a guy thing- I think ;)). It isn't often that I read a book that I'm able to relate to but this one felt so fimiliar to me! I loved it! Erika Ashby writes an amazing love story filled with heart, heartbreak, passion, mind-blowing sex, compassion, and so much more. Now I'm going to get on Amazon and put my twitching one-clicking powers to work. :) 4 fantabulous stars!
I started reading this just because of cover...see,I'm a cover slut and mostly fall for a hot guy on one of them. But this one captured me,and I wasn't disapointed...not much at least. I loved our heroine Dani in this one. She's feisty, independent country girl with big mouth and she won't take shit from anybody... Love how she take care of her mom,and most of the time I had this pic in my mind...
She had two men in her life.Gage,ex boyfriend who still feels something for her,and our hero Holden, former Navy. This is a novel about one girl finding love. Sweet easy going read!
This book can be read as a stand alone, but Holden is connected to the series Timing is Everything.
This is Holden and Dani's story.
Dani has been wanting to get out of her small town her whole life, and she tries everything in her power to do it. Leaving everyone behind that she does truly and dearly love her family, her boyfriend, her friends. But what Dani learns is that even though she has left , her life is still not as perfect as she thought it would be. She learns the hard way that life is where you make it and not what you do. After losing her father and blaming herself because she wasn't there, she heads home and tries to deal with his death. Now with only her mother left she is determined not to make the same mistakes as she thinks she made with her dad. Somehow she feels if she was with her dad that he never would have died. So she sets out to be everyones saviour. With a sister and brother that she hates, that only takes from their mother again and again, she moves in with her mom to try and fix it all.
She becomes close to the man that she once left for her dreams. Her first love the only man she has ever loved that way. Gage. Gage is sweet and loving and might just be what she thinks she wants, that is until she meets Holden. And wait to you see how she meets this gorgeous hotness of a man!!!
Holden has his own problems he fell in love with his best friend and got his heart handed right back to him, shattered into pieces, he is tired of one night stands and a different girl in his bed all the time.
Once he left his home town because of his cousin, he joined the Navy after finishing his time in the military he starts working with his dad in the family business, and starts to travel around doing different jobs for him, he can spend up to 6 mths or less where ever he goes, after going to a new town, and spends some time in a bar with his friend Rusty, he meets Dani. He meets her while he is outside of the bar getting a blow job from her sworn enemy of all people. And when she catches them she stands there and is captured by it, in a very sexual way and thinks to herself. Hottest. Thing. Ever. They stare at each other and something passes between the two of them. Leaving them to never be the same ever. He is captured by her and her attitude. And definitely wants to get to know her better.
He is determined to get to know her better, and Dani is just as love struck by him and wants to get to know him better too, but with her first love back in her life what will she do? Will she break Gage's heart again and pursue this new thing with Holden? Or will she finally give Gage what he has always wanted her love?
Erika has done it again! With this beautiful love story about Holden, we met Holden when he was in love with Jesika his best friend, and we didn't get to know much about him other then the reason he left town, and when he finally came back to claim the person he thought he was in love with, it was too late. She was already with someone else. Holden is a beautiful soul, he has been hurt, but you can see the love that he has to give, he is such an open book and shares his life freely. Dani is just the girl for him, she thinks that she has to save everyone else and never thinks of herself, she gives and gives. Even with Gage it is always about fulfilling his needs and what she thinks he wants. Holden gives her what she needs, he gives her his love with nothing attached and shows her that she needs to live her life for her sometimes. And that it is ok to love someone and not have to be their Saviour.
The story kept me captivated and kept me turning the pages, and at the end it left me satisfied and wanting more, just what a book is suppose to do. It made me fall in love with the Characters and connect with them. I felt apart of Dani from the moment that I met her. And Holden has always held a place in my heart from when he first appeared.
Dani learns to love without strings, she learns to follow her dreams, without guilt. And most of all she learns that life can be just how you dreamed it could be. Perfect.
Thank you Erika for another amazing book .. I can't wait to read what you have coming up next for us. <3
I want to start off by saying if I could give this book more than 5 stars I would. This book deserves it. This book is the best of the series and i didn't think I could ever love Holden more than I did in this book. Where do I start? Dani is amazing, one of my top 5 favorite book female characters. She isn't whiny, she doesn't take crap, she holds her own, she doesn't chase after the men, cry around, she is strong and feisty and I love her to pieces. Holden is sexy, sweet, charming, funny, charasmatic. I just simply love him to pieces. Him and Dani meet in the most hilarious way and it's history from there. These two change each other and fix things in each other that were once broken, they heal each other and give hope. There are some of the sweetest scenes like when they are swinging on the swings together, I swoon. Sweetest scene ever quite possibly. One of the hottest sex scenes for sure, that dock, the skinny dipping, oh boy! Erika sure aint 'holden' out on us ^_~ she pulled out all the stops for this book. These two have been through so much and they deserve to be happy. But can they be happy? there are so many forces trying to keep them apart, their pasts and presents are forces that are trying to keep them apart. Can they over come these forces? That is all you're going to get outta me. I promise, you will NOT be disappointed in this book. The best of the entire series in my opinion. I loved every single second. Great story line and simply amazing. Well done Erika! *Insert round of applause, this woman and series deserves it*
Some quotes I loved :
"It scares me too, Hot Shot. But we've either got to embrace it, or let whatever this is, or could be, go before either one of us falls too deep."
"Don't you get it? It'll be perfect no matter what, as long as it's you and me."
"Let me save you."
"I'm naming that one Dani Jo, because just hot it brings extra light to the night sky, you do the same to my life."
"It's not your booty. It's your beauty, Baby,"
"And baby, I'm what's best for you."
"I've been dying, Baby, and you're the only one that can bring me back."
"You are it for me. I want to be it for you,"
"I need a vacuum that sucks as good as a well-seasoned hooker."
"You, my dear, are my calling."
"Be selfish for me, Dani. Pick me. Tell me to stay. I need to hear you say it."
Save Me from Me is a story of a small town girl Dani- who tried to escape the "small town life" only to be drug back after the death of her father.
She is now starting over - unsure of where or what she is going to do. Immediately running into her past- her high school love Gage- it seems easy to just fall back to what is familiar and comfortable. The only problem? She does not feel about him what he does for her.
Then she meets him. You know- "the One" .. He southern, hot, and new in town - perfect for a good time. She sees him for the first time outside a local bar- with her enemy Loralee.. <--- I LOATHE that nasty piece of trash. You will too.. trust me
Holden is in town working for his fathers company- he isn't looking for a relationship. He doesn't have time for that. Then he meets her. The girl who puts him in his place- while he's in a compromising position;D
What starts out as a friendship- ends up blossoming into what they both realize could be more.
A true country boy- "the dock" becomes their place. The place they come to fish.. and other stuff- It just so happens that dock was already special to Dani- so Holden is giving it a whole new meaning. Dani being obsessed with her camera, she enjoys spending time there taking pictures and enjoying the beauty that surrounds her. Including Holden.
I would say I am SO #teamHolden- which I am but I am coining #teamdock
That Dock is epic. I want me some Dock. The Dock is on my to-do list.. Then some spoilerish drama happens with Holden's D-bag father causing a huge downward spiral for Dani and Holden.. At this point- she is bugging me.. I HATE when girls can't quite being ignorant for 2.5 seconds and just communicate.. ANNOYING ME but THANK YOU JESUS I get to the Epilogue.
*** The Epi in this story warmed my heart.. I'm an epi whore- I LOVE them. To me the Epilogue can make or break the story- it's what you are leaving me with and Erika blew me away with this one! This epi took what may have been a 4-4.5 star rating to FIVE STARS! *****!!! Yes, it is THAT good.
If you are looking for a book with a little bit of everything- Here it is. Coming this week- DO NOT miss this one! <3
I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review...
Save Me From Me begins with an introduction of Dani, a daddy's girl, who was so scared of never getting out of town that after gradution she cut ties, took off for college and has never looked back. Unfortunately, her father recently passed away, which left her feeling more lost than ever before. She has no idea who she really is or what she really wants in life. In a way she feels responsible for his death, like if she had been around more she could have made sure he took better care of himself. She vows to not make the same mistake with her mother and with no where else to turn moves back home and into her mother's house.
When you move back home it's inevitable that you're going to cross paths with your ex-flame. You know the one you've loved since you were a kid. The one whose heart you broke when you left him behind to persue your own destiny. In this story he goes by the name Gage, and let's just say 10 years has done Gage good. Not only does it seem he's matured but if its possible he has gotten even better looking with time. It's apparent Gage is thrilled Dani has returned to town because even though she broke his heart he's never stopped loving her. He desperately wants back into her life even if she will only have him as a "good" friend.
As if Dani isn't already confused and frustrated enough with her job, lack of social life, mixed feelings for Gage, and family drama she meets Holden. Holden, the man she keeps running into and cannot seem to keep off her mind. The mysterious, drop dead gorgeous character who Dani doesn't realize is also lost, working a job he hates, living a life he never wanted but isn't strong enough to walk away from. What is the pull she feels towards him? Is it love? Is it just physical attraction? Should she even allow herself to get close to him since he'll only pack up and leave in 6 months or less for the next job?
The stage is set, what will happen? Will Dani settle with Gage, the boy she has always loved, but isn't in love with or Holden the man who touched her soul, who pushed her to live her life for herself? Will she be strong enough to overcome all the obstacles and realities life throws at her? Will one of these men save Dani or will she end up saving herself?
One of the things I love most in a book is a strong female lead character. Dani is the epitome of strong. She stands up for herself, physically she can take one anyone and never backs away from a fight, she loves fiercly, she takes care of and constantly stand-up for her mother, and she never lets anyone or anything stand in the way of what she wants, if she could just figure out what that is! I think what makes her relatable is that like many of us women, she carries other people's burdens on her shoulders, she always puts other people and their feelings above her own. So much so that she gets to a point where she isn't living life for herself.
The love triangle between her Gage and Holden was really good and Erika Ashby did a nice job detailing her feelings towards each of the men, making it to where you totally understood where Dani was coming from and never needed to question her actions towards either of them. I of course stood my ground for Holden and pulled for the two of them to get their HEA.
This is the first book of Erika Ashby's that I have ever read and I have to say I was pleasantly surprised, all though I didn't find myself feel any kind of strong emotional attachments to any of the characters. Save Me From Me kind of felt like a classic Hallmark or Lifetime channel movie. A predictible, full of drama, HEA kind of movie that you just don't want to flip away from.

This is my first read by this author and after reading the blurb I was eager to get started. I did think it would be a little more hard core than it eventually turned out to be but it was a nice home town kind of read.
Danni is a home town girl who has been away for the past decade making her way in the World as a high flying accountant. But since the death of her father, the guilt she felt for not being there for him and maybe saving him from his heart attack, has had her rushing back to live back with her mother so she can at least be there to look after her should anything go wrong. This however brings her back in to the fold of her two older step siblings who also happen to have a meth problem. This causes confrontations on a daily basis but she cannot stop herself from putting others first, ahead of her own desires and dreams.
Coming back home also brings her back face to face with her first love, Gage, who she left to pursue her dreams all those years back. Gage has stayed stagnant where she left him, same town, same job, and same life and as such he feels they should pick up from where they last were as he is still in love with her. But Danni knows she was right to leave in the first place and there is something more for her besides Gage and her dead end job she has picked up on her return. But it would transpire that there were things that had changed about Gage too.
On a rare night out with her best friend and co-worker she first sets eyes on Holden and what an extreme situation that was with him getting happy with the local town slut on her knees in front on him. This sets off a chain of events that would eventually bring them together but leaves Danni in a quandary – should she remain self-less and live her life for others or should she take the chance, be selfish and live her life for her?
Right from the start I fell for Holden. He was from out of town, moving from place to place where his job as an oil worker for his father’s company takes him. He’s been a player and doesn’t have to work hard to hook the ladies, until that is he meets the headstrong and dynamic Danni. She’s definitely a match for him but Holden is just so delish. He was so laid back and appealing, nothing held him back. But again he was hiding his own demons and the pressure he gets living under the watchful eye of his father, a domineering man who has Holden’s life mapped out for him. This leads to the question is he not exactly like Danni, living his life for others?
I loved the parts with Danni and Holden and the development of their relationship. It was a slow build and at times did go around in circles but you just knew they were deemed to be. It wasn’t an overly sexual romance, although there were some instances of sexy times but not enough for me. I would have liked to have had a further insight on Holden but at some stage he disappears from the story and I would have preferred to still have his POV even whilst he was out of the plotline when the issue Danni is having with Gabe and her siblings is going on. The book kind of lost me for a while at this point.
However the epilogue was a total winner and pulled me right back in love with Danni and Holden. Obviously I won’t divulge what happened as they would be a total spoiler to the new reader but it was a wonderful culmination of the story’s end.
If you are looking for a romance with a dash of angst, a pinch of yearning and a whole lot of love and understanding then this is a read I would recommend for you.
3.75 stars “They say that true love is a once in lifetime thing. But I think sometimes, it can be twice in a lifetime. It can be two different people, or even with the same person but at different times in your life.”
This is the first book that I have read by Erika Ashby and it won't be the last. I really enjoyed the story line for the most part. Her character development was good and the story flowed fairly well. The struggles that her characters go through are believable and relatable.
Dani, at the age of 28 has returned after being gone for the past 10 years. She left home after high school graduation and never looked back. She cut ties with everyone and set out to start over, to make something of herself. Now that her father has passed away she has returned home to be there for her mom. And what she gets is even more heartache form her older half siblings. Dani's, character is very independent, caring and strong. She puts everyone else's needs before her own. When her ex-boyfriend Gage comes walking back into her life, she tries to make him understand that she only wants him as her friend.
Holden Reynolds, returns home from the Navy and goes to work in the oilfields for his father. Moving from town to town, wherever the work takes him. Keeping busy gives him less time to dwell on his past. He lost his best friend and the one girl he really ever loved to his cousin. What he never expected was to find someone like Dani. She breathes life back into him. Makes him want to be a better person and want more for his life than what he is currently doing. He is so sweet with her. Making sure they they take the time to get to know each other. He doesn't want to rush what he feels for her.
“I think we all go through things in our life that are meant to bring us to the person we are absolutely meant to be with.”
When Holden asks Dani to move with him to his next job, his father steps in and creates hell for both of them.
When tragedy strikes Dani once again, Holden is not there to help her, Gage is. He seems to pull out all the stops to win her back. When Gage's past and current actions come to light, Dani asks him to seek help and make his life better. Thinking this is the one way to win her over, he agrees.
Will Holden and Dani be able to overcome the issues of their past and find away to make a life with one another? Or will there continue to be obstacles in their way? When Dani's sister offers her a way for her life to be more complete, will she take it?
I really enjoyed all the supporting characters..Especially Adyn, Dani's best friend. They work together at the local convenience store. Their crazy banter is great and you can tell that they truly have each others backs. I wish we would have seen more of Tyler, Dani's older brother and Rusty, Holden's friend.
Overall I did enjoy this book. I loved the dual POV. It is a sweet read with the HEA that we all long for. I really like the epilogue and that really brought it all together in the end. I did feel like some of the dialogue between Dani and Holden was more like rehearsed speeches. But the banter and whit between them was refreshing. I felt the editing could have been better also. And I found myself questioning the research that was or was not done regarding certain topics in the story. If you are looking for a cute, sweet read. Then this is the book for you.
i adored this book. The characters in it didn’t have any tragic flaws except hearts of gold. It was such a change for me to read this. I am not saying that it needed more, my emotions sprang from me more and more with each page I turned. It was heartwarming and beautiful. To see the characters take their hearts and always try to do what is right, despite how it would change thier lives.
Dani had big dreams to escape the small town she lived in. She wanted nothing mroe than to get out of the town she grew up in, but 10 years later, she finds herself back in that small town wanting to take care of those around her, especially her mother. Her mother wasn’t dealt a fair hand when it came to kids. Two of her kids use her and Dani just wants to fix it. But battling with siblings may not be the way to do it. So one night after a particulary rediculous fight with her sister she finds herself running to her 4th sibling to keep her calm. What she doesn’t expect that night she meets her brother at the bar is what she sees outisde the bar… Holden. The big problem there is the girl attached to him… Dani hates her.
Holden is in a job he doesn’t like and doesn’t want to be doing but, it is a family business that he is to enherit. Does he want it? No, but it is the right thing to do. Holden has spent so much of his time being numb to his surroundings. The one girl who had his heart ended up with someone else. He was just trying to live his life without her in it.
When their eyes connected there was something there. But Dani knew there was no way anything would ever happen between the two of them. Holden just couldn’t keep his eyes off of her. But what was the chance that he would ever see her again? His job kept him on the move. Constantly going to where the business needed him.
Holden ends up on a temporary position on Dani’s town and the two of them become fast friends. Her quick wit plays well off of his and the two of them are so much alike though through completely different circumstances. But what happens when Holden and Dani start to see each other in a different light? She’s not looking for anything long term and he knows he won’t be around long enough to make anything last longer…
This book just sucked me in. I loved Dani and Holden’s story. Though it wasn’t easy and yes, I found myself crying a time or two, I just couldn’t get over how powerful love could really be for these two. It made my heart smile when they were together and my heart broke right along with theirs when they were apart.
Erika Ashby made these characters real and relatible. I just adored the heck out of them. I loved reading their story. It was a great eye opener for those with the biggest hearts… a picture of what life should be and other’s issues are not your burden to bear unless you choose to. Life is about the choices we make and these two made several of the wrong ones in order to help others out, but when they started making decisions for themselves, it was quite moving and touching.
I just adored this book so much!

I was really looking forward to reading this book when I first found out about it, as it sounded like the sort of book I was going to love! And love it I did! This book was so beautiful! I will admit that it took me two attempts to really get into it when I first started reading, but I'm so happy I didn't put it down! It just got better and better as I read on! The characters, the plot, everything about this book just made me fall completely in love with it! The plot of this book was so emotional! I cried like a baby at the end, I smiled at the little things and I got mad as secrets unfolded! The plot was written brilliantly and I just couldn't stop reading it! It did take me a few chapters to get into it, but once I did, I couldn't get through it fast enough! It was amazing and had me hooked! The characters were amazing! Dani was the main female character and I just adored her! I loved that she wasn't afraid to speak her mind and she told people straight how she felt! My heart went out to Dani in this book as she went through so much and yet she tried so hard to stay strong! I admired her so much for that! Dani put other peoples feelings before her own, which meant that she rarely did what she really wanted to! I loved that her love interest showed her that she had to put herself first and other people second! Holden was the love interest of Dani and he was deliciously hot! He had also been through a lot and then he went through quite a lot in this book! I don't think he went through as much as Dani, but his story tugged at my heartstrings just as much! Holden showed Dani what it was like to live again, but he also showed her just how much love could hurt! My heart fluttered and broke as I read Dani and Holden's story, but it was so beautiful and full of real love! I loved that this book was written from both Dani and Holden's point of views as it made it more interesting and I loved getting to go inside both of their heads! There was a love triangle in this book between Dani, Holden and Gage! I was definitely Team Holden, but I did like Gage! Well, until I discovered his secret! The love triangle played a big part in the story, but it wasn't that big a part that makes you roll your eyes! It was perfect and added a lot to the story! I normally enjoy like triangles, but I've read a few recently that have let me down, so I'm really happy that I enjoyed the one in this book! I can completely understand why this book is a standalone! The ending was absolutely beautiful and had me crying like a baby! I do have to see that I could see a novella for Dani and Holden, but it's definitely not necessary! The cover for this book is beyond stunning! I fell in love with it as soon as I saw it! I'm definitely going to have to get it in paperback! Big thank you to Erika for an ARC of Save Me From Me and to Enticing Journey Book Promotions for having me on the Blog Tour!
This was my very first Erica Ashby novel and I was pleasantly surprised! This is an example of don’t judge a book by it’s cover, at least for me. Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE the cover, but I thought it was going to be a sweet and innocent romance. Oh, have I told you I don’t read the book synopsis or reviews either before reading? I like to go in blind with no pre-judgements.
So when did I know that this was going somewhere else? That’s when 4% into the book, Dani, our female lead, catches Holden, our male lead, getting a blow job outside a bar, against a wall and immediately thinks “Hottest. Damn. Thing. EV-ER.” Yeah, I knew this was going to be good ;) But let me digress…
There are also real life issue in this book that face Dani and Holden. Fractured family relationships and drugs play a large part in this book. Dani left town after high school, but returns 7+ years later after the death of her father, feeling tremendous guilt for not having been there. She moves in with her mother and 2 drug-addicted older half-siblings.
Holden, on the other hand, has major conflict with his father. He has forced Holden into the family business as it’s his first priority in life. He is never home and never shows affection towards his wife or son. Holden travels from town to town working for his dad and that’s how he runs into Dani at the local bar.
I love the character development in this book and felt a real connection between Dani and Holden. Dani is sassy and Holden is a total Alpha Male…swoon! They really are the perfect couple. The secondary characters, Gage and Adyn also add depth and humor to the story.
Dani and Holden have some serious ups and downs in this novel, but I’m also going to file this one under best epilogue EVER! The ending was exactly how it should have been for this couple and the author could not have done it any better. Erika Ashby is now on my list of must read authors and I’ll be adding her previous titles to my tbr! Awesome job Erika!!
An ARC was kindly provided by the Author for an honest review.
Having read several of Erika Ashby's books before I was really looking forward to Save Me From Me. Her writing style flows easily and has you turning page after page not realising just how much you have read.
The characters in this story, Dani and Holden will capture your heart and you will be pulled into their lives, desperately wanting them to get their HEA.
Dani is quite the female lead, she is very independent, strong, sassy and feisty. Dani had left home after high school and it is many years later that she is returning to her home town, feeling like she needs to be near her mother after her father's death. She quickly slides back into her old life style, including reconnecting with her former boyfriend Gage.
Gage is a guy with a few issues but he still holds onto his love for Dani and truly believes that they will get back together. He's sweet and willing to do whatever he has to, to make Dani his but the problem is that Dani only loves him like you love a bestfriend.
Then one night...... Dani meets Holden. With his sexy looks, charm, wit and total alpha ways, Holden is totally swoon worthy, problem is that Holden is only in town for a short time while working for his father's company.
Dani and Holden have an instant connection and it's one that develops quickly from something innocent into a full blown relationship. They have a great understanding of each other and their chemistry is just wow..... Keep flammable liquids away because around these two, they are sure to combust.
So there are family issues, exes and especially Holden's father creating obstacles in the couple's path to happiness but the question is can they overcome the negative forces trying to keep them apart to reach their Happily Ever After.
What really stood out for me with the story was the epilogue.... it was fantastic and I can honestly say one of the best I have read in quite a while.
I really enjoyed Save Me From Me by Erika Ashby and believe me when I say that if you weren't already a fan of her work, this story will ensure that you will definitely become one.
I had the wonderful opportunity to get an ARC from this Rockin chic for an honest review & let me be honest: Loved it! I felt like I was watching a movie b/c the characters were so real & raw & honest! The first love's & future loves & past & present was all bound together in one wonderful story. Danny is not lost she just need's to get her compass to set her in the right direction. I understand her need to try & "fix" things with Gage & was proud of her for not going down "that road" with him b/c she is still trying to figure out her path in life after leaving town after graduation. Her father was her biggest fan & she feel's lost w/out him. Kudo's to strong ass women who speak the truth b/c Dani does & I loved her for it. Gage bless his heart is lost in the past & trying to put a band aid over an open wound that won't heal & that wound is Dani. He want's her to want what he want's & I feel so helpless & want to scream "MOVE ON" but yet he breaks my heart & I give him prop's for being persistant. Holden oh Holden you sexy man! You had me at hello! You knew how special Dani was & I loved the "four play" & back & forth that went on between them. It broke the ice & showed Dani she could find her way with the right person b/c he would lead her there & she still knew she didn't need a man but Holden had proven he wasn't just a fling. Dani had her ups & downs with loss & sadness but knew she had to "save herself" before she could give into loving anyone & was confident enough to know she was special & she would figure Holden & Gage all out on her own time. Erika is one of the coolest chicks & I loved her first series so much I told all of my book friends to get the whole series of Moving Forward b/c she is that freak'n talented & will rock your world! Hope I didn't give away too much b/c this book is a must read!
Dani, poor Dani. She is just putting up with everyone else's BS and is not getting anything out of life other than crap. She is a good person with even a bigger heart. Dani is fed up with her step sister and brother and their drug habit. She is pissed with how they treat their mother and upset that her mother does nothing about it. The bigger issue is Dani is stuck in a rut. She has not gotten over her fathers death and now feels that she needs to save her mother and those around her.
"Holden it doesn't matter what I want. I gave that up months ago."
Holden is working for his father doing a job he wants nothing to do with. Moving from town to town just to please him. After losing the one woman he loved Holden is complacent with his life. Once in a new town Holden sees Dani and is drawn to her in a way that he did not think was possible. He wants more with her and spending time with her is making him realize that he wants what ever he can get from Dani.
"No, Dani. And neither will I. So hold on as tight as you need to. I got you. I won't let you fall."
Gage was Dani's first love and she left him when she escaped the town they grew up in. Now that she is back Gage is still in love with her and wants nothing more than to win her back. But Gage has his own problems. Can her win her over?
Their story was about learning to trust and love not only each other but mostly for them both to learn to love themselves and that it is okay to put yourself first. Dani was living day by day putting one foot in front of the other. It took a while for Dani to get her stuff together and understand that you don't always have to rescue everyone, even if they are your family. You must first love yourself, love who you are, then you can love those around you.
**** I received and ARC of this book in exchange of an honest review. ****
Erika Ashby finally brings us Holden's story, after meeting him in her Timing is Everything series. She did not disappoint. After her father's death, Dani comes back home to stay with her mother. Her feelings of regret and guilt cause her to put her life on hold and look out for everyone else. Those feelings of guilt cause her to at some point, slowly wonder if she should go back to her old flame, Gage. When Holden comes into town, their first meeting is really funny. Maybe a bit sexy ;-) but funny. They both feel an instant attraction, but as they spend time together, they realize that it's so much more. She realizes that she can never be with anyone else and he in turn realizes that she is the one for him.
This book had me laughing, like when Holden pretends to do an infomercial on vacuum cleaners...
"Are you tired of your vacuum cleaner blowing," he pauses for dramatic effect, "all your dust around? That's why you need this one. It sucks stronger than a XXX porn star."
But it also had the tender moments that we expect from a romance novel.
"You are my life now. My reason for everything. Before you I wasn't living. I was drifting along. My life has purpose now."
Holden and Dani are perfect together. He goes for what he wants and she takes no crap from anyone. They are initially both running from their past, but eventually find a way to save each other from their demons. Their journey to self-acceptance and love is filled with laughs and pain, but they finally find themselves where they're supposed to be.
I fully enjoyed this book. The main characters are wonderful and the secondary characters add spunk and drama. I can't wait for more from Erika Ashby.
Save Me From Me is the latest novel from author Erika Ashby. This story follows Dani Brooks and Holden Reynolds. Fans of Erika’s Timing is Everything Series will remember Holden as Jake Reynold’s cousin.
As the female lead, Dani Brooks is anything but timid and weak. Her family is anything but functional, but she does everything she can to adapt and remain unaffected. This gal is one badass chick. She lives life with little apology and isn’t afraid to (literally) kick some ass. I’m not ashamed to admit I wish she were real so I could be Dani’s friend.
Then there’s Holden. He’s constantly on the road and changes women like he changes towns --- frequently. Like Dani, he speaks his mind and isn’t afraid to go after what he wants. He dreams of getting out from under his father’s rule, and pursuing a career and life based on his wants.
The plot is full of shock, drama, and tons of chemistry. Dani and Holden’s introduction is anything but conventional and left my mouth wide open. It was one of my favorite parts in the novel. Both characters must face the challenges presented by their pasts and families. This story is one of growth, acceptance, and learning to make your happiness top priority. Start to finish, this novel is a quick read that kept me hooked and thoroughly entertained.
If you’re a fan of Erika Ashby’s you’re going to love Save Me From Me. If you haven’t been introduced to her books, do yourself a favor and become familiar with Holden, Dani, and her Timing is Everything Series. I can’t wait to see what she comes up with next!
I loved Saved Me From Me! I love all of Erika Ashby's books but this might just be my favorite yet.
Dani Brooks wants to pretty much forget about the small town she is from and get on with her life. When her father dies she is forced to deal with it all head on. I love Dani! She is tough and doesn't care to speak the truth. She isn't fake. She is who she is and if you don't like it she doesn't really care. We get a softer side of her too as you read.
Trying to start over isn't easy especially when a past love returns, and a new one may begin...
Dani runs into Gage her high school sweetheart, he still love her, but the feeling isn't mutual on Dani's part. Then she meets Holden Reynolds.
Yes-- Holden Reynolds is a Sweet Baby Jesus moment for me! I loved him! He's hot, tough and Dani has met her match because he's not afraid to tell it like it is and speak his mind just like her. He's not interested in dating or a serious relationship. That is until he meets Dani!
The chemistry is off the charts HOT! The dock scene! <----- get me a fan and glass of wine after that one! Erika knows how to write a HOT piece!
As they grow closer things happen that could keep the two apart. I never like giving away everything so please go read Save Me From Me to find out! I give it 5 HUGE stars! One of my favorites to wrap up 2013.
I also have to brag of the amazing cover. It is beautiful and I can't wait for the paperback to be in my hands! Love it!
I think that my favorite part of this book hands down is Holden. I'm so happy that he got his own book after what he went through in the Timing Is Everything series. (Damn you Jake!!!) Stuck in a job working for his dad and traveling from town to town and woman to woman, Holden just wants to be happy living his own dream.
Dani, ah Dani. I loved her sassy, strong-willed, take no shit attitude but sometimes her inability to just communicate made me so angry!!
From the first time Holden saw Dani he felt a pull towards her and Dani towards him but fear of settling makes them keep their distance...until they just couldn't anymore. There relationship quickly picks up and they are looking forward to their Happily Ever After until Holden's dad steps in with plans of his own.
Will Dani and Holden fight for what they want or will Gage finally get everything he's ever wanted, a life with his first love Dani?
If you love Erika Ashby then this book is right up your alley as she stays true to her style of storytelling.
*I received an ARC from the author/publisher in exchange for an honest review.
I enjoyed this book immensely. There is great depth in the characters. Some of the situations are so real it feels like you need a break from the action. The author Erika Ashby is wonderful and will be on my TBR list from now on.
Dani comes home after 10 years of trying to find herself. Life with her mother isn't all it's cracked up to be, but she feels that maybe she is stuck. That is until the handsome Holden catches her attention and teaches her that life doesn't have to be that way.
Holden feels stuck in his father's footsteps until he meets Dani and she helps him see he wants more and can get it with her.
This book was given to me in exchange for an honest review
This was a beautifully written story of two people running from their pasts and brought together when they were least expecting to find love. But no love story is without obstacles, and while they're living their lives trying to please everyone else, they overlook that maybe they are the ones needing to be saved themselves. The love Dani and Holden share is undeniable, but is that enough to keep them together or will they continue to let others dictate the paths their lives will take?
Definitely a must read! You won't be disappointed!
A must read for all backwards ball cap wearing, country boy loving women! Erika as written the perfect combination of sassiness, humor, love, and confusion all mixed together in SMFM. I instantly fell in love with Holden as he leaned against that bar wall, and he instantly fell for Dani. Both lead characters have some issues deep within themselves to solve if they want to have that special HEA. Their journey is rough with outside intrusions. Can they work out their demons or will they self destruct?
I love this story! It is a story of leaving the past behind and trying to move on. It's easier to do when you have someone to lean on. This story isn't a sweet girl meets bad boy and they live happily ever after.
Their story has bumps a long the way. The love that Dani and Holden have is AMAZING. It's real love love. Although, sometimes people don't know what is best from themselves and listen to everyone but their heart...
5 stars for amazing chemistry and a well written story!
LOVED!!! Save Me From Me might be one of my favorite books by Erika Ashby to date. I fell in love with every single page! Holden and Dani are two characters that are so easy to not only love but root for. Can't wait for more from Erika! <3
this book is so good I love dani and holden he's a great guy so sweet. There story is touching. they have so many things to go threw to get there ending. I didn't want this book to end. I really enjoy reading erika Ashby books there all so touching
Loved how Holden and Dani met! Dani is a strong girl with a big heart for her family. Holden is doing what is right for his family. The two of them together works so well. I really enjoyed this book.
Let me start by saying, Dani is the BEST female character I've read about in a while. She talks sh@t and backs it up! Gotta love a girl who can call you on your sh@t, keep up with the boys, and does it all with her cowboys boots on!
