BUMP- A GHOST STORY WITH TEETH- Thirty years ago, Sheriff Gil Lundy buried something evil in the old Dill farmhouse. Turning a deaf ear to the screams of a deformed serial killer entombed and left to die in his own slaughterhouse, Lundy sealed the deranged wood carver and his bullet-riddled mother behind walls of brick and fresh mortar, condemning them and their murderous secrets to the shadows for all time.

The remains of Edgar Dill's victims-ten teenage girls whose flesh lay locked away in monstrous, hand-carved mannequins with human scalps nailed to their heads-were laid to rest in shallow graves along Alder creek.

Now, three decades later, something is stirring in the dust and shadows of the old Dill house. Something dark, powerful and vicious.

And Gil Lundy is about to learn that past sins can not only come back to haunt you... they can eat you alive.

BUMP is a no-holds-barred novel of extreme, violent horror. A ghost story, a monster movie and a dark, gruesome tale of backwoods serial slayers bent on bloody vengeance. With the feel of classic cult horror cinema and the pace of a running chainsaw, BUMP will crawl under your skin... and leave splinters on its way out.

Great first book by this author. A demented serial killer Eddie carves life size wooden mannequins then cuts the nasty bits off the girls he kills and puts them in wooden drawers with padlocks built into the appropiate spots in the mannequins and nails their scalps on the head. That's just the teaser beginning of a unique horror tale that takes you on a surprising ride thru the twisted telling of "Bump"

I am so excited to tell you about a book I have recently been able to review. (I was given a copy of BUMP to review honestly). BUMP by Mark Kidwell. This isn't your everyday book.....it is so much more. If you like books that make your pulse race, give Mr. King's novels a run for his money in the creepy department, then BUMP is for you!

I haven't read a really good scary novel in a long time. They are kind of like a good scary movie.....promise a lot but in the end don't really deliver. This, however, is NOT the case with BUMP! The ending left me wanting more.....more....MORE!

Mark Kidwell has a knack for spinning a tale that really makes you want to check under your bed and in the closets for those things that haunt your dreams. Don't forget to take along your double-barrel shotgun and something that throws fire! This book will definitely get you all riled up!

Mark is a true artist when it comes to painting pictures with words. They say a photo is worth 1000 words but you haven't read BUMP yet! Mark's ability to draw you into the story and make you actually feel the terror is a true gift.

His characters make you love them and want them to survive (with the exception of the Dills). The way in which these characters interact and deal with each other gives you every reason to either love them or want to reach into the book and slap some nonsense into them. His character formations and backstories give you a true sense of who each character is.

The Dills give you the creeps from the beginning of the story. You just KNOW there is something fundamentally wrong with them. Sheriff Lundy, he's the guy who sets the stage for the Dills to come back and HAUNT your dreams! Edgar Dill is one sick individual spurred on by his mother's craziness, in Biblical proportions.

I truly, truly enjoyed BUMP and if you are a fan of spooky and downright true ghost stories, then this book is for you!

I can't tell you enough how much I enjoyed reading this novel. I loved it so much I am giving it FIVE STARS! Mark draws you into the story and doesn't let you go.....not even in the end.

Remember to check under your bed and inside your closet before going to sleep.

I received this book to give an honest review!

Damn where do I start with this book. I wanted a horror story to read and the author came through on this book. I was captured from the beginning to the end and was surprised to learn that the serial killer in this book was actually based on a real serial killer. If you keep reading after the end of the book you find this out.

If you are looking for a horror story, that is filled with death, blood, gore, keeps you engaged from the beginning and giving you chills after you start reading. Then this is the book for you.

It is a ghost story like no other. Edgar Dill is a deformed man who likes to carve wood but also carve young women. Him and his mother are both sick individuals. When he kidnaps the wrong girl, the sheriff takes matters into his own hands even if it is illegal. Years after this serial killer is stopped something else comes to life and it is not human at all. This is one horror story you will want to pick up and read and will not want to put down.

The characters are well developed, you feel what they feel, the storyline was written perfectly. I wish I could give this book more than 5 stars because it damn well deserved it. I was in horrorville while reading this book, and I just could not get enough. I can see this book becoming a horror movie. I just would hope the movie would be just as scary as the book.

I can not tell you enough if you want a horror story that will keep you hooked from beginning to end, leave you in fear then you need to go and get your copy RIGHT NOW! Not later, but NOW. This author has a talent like no other in the horror genre.

Disclaimer: I received an e-copy from the author in exchange for an honest review.

Holy s**t! This book *definitely* lives up to the "extreme horror" label on its cover. The Dills are sick and twisted, the mannequins scared the hell out of me, and it just gets better (or worse, depending on how you look at it) from there. From the very start, I was completely engrossed in the story and had to tear myself away from it to work, eat, or sleep (which didn't come easily after reading at night). I would definitely recommend this story to anyone who loves an awesome horror novel, although I'd caution that you'll wind up checking all your locks, under the bed, in the closets, etc. for many nights after you finish. I'm looking forward to the film version if it ever comes to light, but I'm sure I'll make it a daylight viewing.

Thanks for the scares, Mark, and I hope you continue for many years to come! =)

I remember reading this around a decade back and I remember I kind of enjoyed it. Thought I'd just give this another go to see how it holds up after a decade. Mark Kidwell's Bump is the equivalent of B movie goodness. You cant love it, but you can't hate it too. Bump tells the story of serial killer, Edgar Dill, who makes life-size wooden mannequins and fills them up with the nasty bits of the women he's killed and voila, you get an army of killer wooden mannequins at your bidding. Bump follows most of the horror B movie tropes including the ending. The art is serviceable and although a movie was announced I am glad it never happened since it would have been yet another slasher/creature-feature. So reading this after a decade how did I feel? It's still mildly enjoyable if you're in for a quick read, go for it.

This novel is a roller coaster ride of gut wrenching mayhem and the supernatural. It's an effective homage to movie horror as well as a nod to the established horror prose by authors like Ray Garton, Jack Ketcham and Richard Laymon. Edgar Dill reminded me of Tobe Hooper's Leatherface and also Rex Miller's 400 pound serial killer, Chaingang. It was tightly written and moved flawlessly through each gripping scene. Just when you think it can't get more suspenseful or horrific, the author doubles down with another helping of bloody terror. This book deserves a limited hardcover edition. I very highly recommend it.

This novel was a fantastic read. While usually writing and illustrating comics (which are also awesome!), Mark Kidwell was very descriptive in his narrative. It takes a lot to creep me out in a novel, and this was one of the few exceptions. I look forward to him writing another novel. I will definitely be all over it as well!

As a fan of the comic book it was really cool to read a novel based on the series. More comic books should do this. It was well written and will scare the daylights out of you!
