Alexa Kincaid is living the American dream. She is married to David Cooper, a handsome pediatrician, has a successful criminal law practice, and a beautiful home on the Chesapeake Bay. But her dreams are soon shattered when she finds out that the woman she's representing in the biggest trial of her career, Rachel Mills, reveals a secret that threatens her marriage to David. It will take all of Alexa's strength to set aside her personal feelings for a woman she so desperately wants to hate, in order to successfully defend her in court.
Along the way, Alexa learns some powerful lessons about love, guilt, and jealousy. Upon searching the depths of her own soul to find the true meaning of forgiveness, she receives a gift from Rachel that changes her life forever.
This novel is for every woman who has loved and for those who had that love tested to their very core. Sometimes to find happiness you have to dig down deep in your soul for forgiveness, for that will set you free.
Roxanne has over 20 years experience as a legal assistant/paralegal assisting counsel in civil and criminal law. Her lifelong passion of writing and publishing a novel came to fruition in December of 2012 with her first novel "ADMISSIONS OF GUILT."
Roxanne Winkler's novel uses her many years of experience in the legal field to build a moving story that tackles infidelity and forgiveness set against an intense courtroom backdrop.
ADMISSIONS OF GUILT, although released in December, was a long time in the making for Roxanne. She began writing the novel after her boss died suddenly in 1997. “He was a high profile Maryland criminal trial lawyer, and I was devastated when he died,” Roxanne said. She promptly quit her job of 16 years and spent the next three months at her computer writing her novel. Roxanne stated that writing was the therapy she needed to get her through the grieving period. She then tucked her manuscript away until the beginning of 2012 when she decided to self-publish it on Amazon.com for Kindle. The novel required a massive rewrite in order to bring it up-to-date with modern technology.
She lives in Annapolis, Maryland with her husband, Jim and their dog, Shelby. They own a vacation home in Florida where they enjoy fishing and cruising the waterways. Roxanne volunteers for hospice during her spare time and is currently writing her next novel.
what a stupid ending. I could have understood better if the development between h and ow was a bit realistic and slow. I didnt feel for a moment that h really harbored any bad feelings for OW esp after she was sentenced. Realistically they would never have become friends. They would have tolerated each other but not friends. h was too forgiving IMO or she was indifferent. And whats the deal with H hugging OW in the end?! They are not friends. They are not supposed to be friends. He cheated on his wife with this woman. He is not supposed to be her friends regardless of her being a mommy to his son esp when she is leaving that son to him. He shouldn't have hugged her at all or kissed her. I also felt that Ow left her son to H coz he had DS otherwise she would have fought for him. Of course she would have lost but at least she would have fought.
I feel so sad that she got only two years for taking a life. Justice wAS not served. She ended up being friends with h and H. Also it seems she would get back with her estranged hubby too and her kids too. She didnt get justice at all. Even her time in jail was not really suffering time for her...
I thought the premise of this story was very interesting. A very different take on the cheating trope. Imagine the woman you are representing in court is having an affair with your husband? Is pregnant with the child you can't give him? Could you be biased? Could you be lenient? Could you do your job? Alexa is married to David. She's a lawyer. He's a doctor. Their marriage has been overtaken by their careers/practices and they've lost time with each other. Unfortunately due to her endometriosis, Alexa can't have children. But she's hoping to talk to him about adoption. Rachel works at David's practice. She's married to Trent with two kids. But she's unhappy in her marriage. She begins to pursue David and they start carrying on an affair at hotels. She gets pregnant. Rachel claims to love David but he says their trysts meant nothing to him. When she tells him at a bar one night that she's pregnant, they have a big fight and he leaves. Rachel drives home drunk and there is a hit and run with a child. She's arrested and Trent asks Alexa to be her lawyer (neither of them knowing at that time that their spouses are cheating and pregnant behind their backs). It's a very complicated situation. The only person whose reaction I understood was Trent. I obviously don't agree with him being violent with Rachel, hitting her at all... but hearing your wife who is putting your family through a living hell with her drunk driving, into financial distress to keep her out of prison... and she tried to pass the product of her cheating off on him. It was disgusting, despicable behaviour and I don't blame Trent for leaving her and taking the kids with him. I wish Alexa had left David. I really do. For longer than a week. I feel like David got off scot free in this book. Everyone but him pays a price for this infidelity. David's behaviour made me sick. He practically put the whole affair on Rachel. She came at him hard. It was just lust. And then when all the secrets start coming out, when Trent finds out and beats him... only then does he tell Alexa the truth once he's been backed into a corner. IT WAS MADDENING!!! With Rachel going to prison and Trent having left town... the only person to look after the unborn child is David. I get him stepping up for his kid. But he announces it to Alexa that the child will live with him at their house. He doesn't ask her. Just assumes she still loves him and will have to accept those terms. A baby she hasn't been able to give him but his mistress has. How hurtful that must be. And she's just supposed to be fine with it? I understand the child is innocent but still... I think I would have preferred if the ending was Alexa realising she couldn't forgive David. Left him and adopted a child of her own. My heart broke for Alexa. Not only has her husband cheated on her repeatedly. But he lied to her face for weeks. He wasn't subtle in his behaviour. Alexa knew something was up with him and she had strong suspicions of an affair. She had asked him if he was cheating and he told her no and then got mad at her for questioning his fidelity. She tries to communicate with him but he always shut her down or yelled at her, storming off. I hated David. I thought he was a shit husband and sorry excuse for a man. It bothered me that Jan, Alexa's business partner and friend, was all over her to confront David about his affair. She loathed David. They got into arguments about Alexa believing David when Jan was convinced of his guilt. But after it comes out that David impregnated another woman, the woman that Alexa is defending... Jan encourages and pressures Alexa to go back to David because "he's sorry" and "he loves her" and forces her to accept his child with another woman. Talk about a 180. I felt like everyone sided with David. Even Alexa's own family. It disgusted me to be honest. The one big problem I had was... Rachel is adamant she wants the baby. She refuses to have an abortion or give it up for adoption. I understand that's her choice. But she also got so drunk while pregnant? I'm supposed to believe this woman wants to be a mother? Rachel loses her family and goes to prison. Not for very long (for killing a child she gets 2 years?) and it seemed her family was headed toward reconciliation in Florida which I found hard to believe. I also found it impossible to believe that Rachel and Alexa almost become like sisters. WHAT. THE. HELL??? I couldn't suspend belief over that line from Rachel. The book tried to tie everything up into a neat and tidy bow. I just couldn't stomach it.
10/20 Needed a little palate cleanser between Noras and I keep coming back to this stupid book bc I LOVE THIS TROPE!!! But unfortunately this book doesn't understand my needs and keeps being an ass.
9/16 Seriously? I think sometimes an author hates her heroine. I think Ms. Winkler hates her heroine really, really, REALLY BADLY.
6/25/17 For some reason I re-read this, it's not any better the second time around. I really hope it's the fact that the author just can't write. I mean, this type of story really needs an author that can nuance the feelings of her characters. Here, I just felt bludgeoned. I think the author may secretly hate her own sex. I say that because the woman the H had the affair with took all of the blame for the affair, she was called a slut, flirt, whore and and a whole lot more. The "hero" and I use that term loosely, was just poor Dr. Cooper. And then his poor wife had to do ALL the forgiving. Even her mother deserted her. Look I'm all in for forgiveness, but let's make him worth forgiving. Ugh, this book isn't worth all this writing, so I'm just going to stop.
Here we go...another H who can’t keep it in his pants OR wrap it up when he uses it on someone other than his doormat masquerading as a wife.
My favorite person was the OW’s husband. His reaction was the only one indicating any kind of self-respect.
Books like these make me wonder why we women have such low regard for our own. It is rare that I come across a book where the heroine refuses to accept the humiliation, embarrassment and hurt associated with a cheating hubby and his resultant offspring. For whom is this romantic?
This book features a location and profession I’m very familiar with and interested in. That was a big draw for me. The actual plot, not so much.
David is a piece of shit that couln't keep it in his pants! Alexa should never forgive him! The writing was fine but I could'nt relate to the characters. I feel like David did not deserve a second chance so this was difficult for me to read.
Ok,this is well written, emotional and ....disturbing. So much for the idea that love makes sex better, huh? I understand the potential monotony of monogamous ,marital sex... MMS,lol. But the idea of David's uncontrollable lust for Rachael that was greater than anything he ever felt for his wife? Ewwie! Hard pill to swallow! Good for his wife absolutely no feelings involved, but come on...Are we animals? Apparently.Like I said, disturbing. Depressing. Sickening.Yay! And then she(ow) is preggers. And boom, she is the enemy#one He is hostile and hateful and then suddenly before we know it everyone is in love ...all Kumbaya! I am all about redemption and forgiveness doing the work for reconciliation if deserved, but the extremes here were difficult to accept or comprehend.

An interesting outlook on infedelity and those who choose to work through it. There were a few stereotypes I was bugged by--specifically the claim that the affair was mostly the "slut 's" fault because she was the one to instigate the affair. Seriously, when will society hold men equally responsible as women for immoral conduct. Thinking with their penis instead of their brain is never justification--that way of thinking is like saying "I'm a subspecies so I get my own criteria." Bull. Furthermore, the author tended to tell rather than show the story. It wasn't horrible, but I wasn't impressed either.
Alexa was a lawyer with no spine. How she could defend the woman who slept with her husband. Knowing he was married. Defend her after driving drunk and killing an innocent 4 year old. Going on like Racheal was the victim. This book just pissed me off. I wish female authors would at least make the leads have some type of backbone especially when it comes to cheating husband's. Ugh.
I normally like cheating hero stories with a good HEA. However, this one made me mad! The hero did not grovel nearly enough. He did not suffer the consequences of his infidelity nearly enough. The heroine was weak. She continued as the lawyer defending the OW in a criminal lawsuit and actually liked the OW by the end of the book.
CHARACTERS: Ms. Winkler does a fantastic job of bringing her characters to life. I was able to identify and sympathize with each of the main characters. They are, in my opinion, true-to-life; these are not evil people or corrupt villains. They are victims or circumstance and/or products of their own poor choices.
PLOT/SUSPENSE: The purpose of “Admissions of Guilt” was not to keep the reader guessing as to what would happen next, as the ending was somewhat predictable. Rather, the purpose was to invite the reader into the lives of the characters, experiencing with them heartache, pain, joy, triumph. Throughout the book, the reader finds himself asking, not “What will happen next” but “How will it happen? How will this character get from this valley to that new experience?” If we take time to think about it, isn’t that true of ourselves? Do we not ask the same questions of our own lives?
TAKE-AWAY: As humans, we are quick to judge the actions of others. We are steadfast in our opinions of how we would handle situations. "Admissions of Guilt" has the ability to make us wonder about the power of forgiveness. Would we, in the same position, be able to forgive? What values do we adhere to? Which is the greater ideal - fidelity and trust, or forgiveness and strength to stand through the hard things? In any given situation, do we see how easily one decision can affect so many others, or how it can turn the course of our lives in such a different direction?
I have to say I was pleasantly suprised with this book. I enjoyed it for the most part but, had serious problems with other parts.
For example, I cannot believe that Alexa took David back and forgave him so easily and so quickly. For me this made her look weak and with her being the hell bent lawyer that she was it was pretty scary to see how she quickly became a pushover.
My heart also broke for her and I like that she took over for Tyler and was the mother he would never have. I do not blaim Rachel for the affair and I do not like how the author did so.
All in all if this book was okay. I liked it. It did have quite a few errors but, I would definitely recommend as a quick, heavy hearted, book!
Readable cheating husband story, his affair comes back to seriously bite him in the ass. Not much of a grovel, not that redeemable, and it’s circumstances holding them together until they reconcile. The whole thing ties up in a too neat little bow.
This definitely lost me when the friend who did not like her husband and husband liked her husband and called it out for what it was when she thought what was gonna happen happen, basically to work it out with him.
Then on top of that her own parents were opps!
Like what do you mean maybe she’ll a lean to forgive him because they had!! That does not make any kind of sense!
When the ice on the cake for me was when she didn’t opt out of being the lawyer because of conflict of interest!
Like, would you really want your lawyer to be the wife of the man you had an affair with and is having his only child because the wife can’t get pregnant! Like what?!!
The storyline was interesting but the delivery was by a novice. It will not surprise me if she rewrites it in the future. The h is a defense attorney, the H a doctor. They are both successful. A new woman is hired at his practice. She is married with two children. She comes across as a narcissistic person whose one thought is to seduce the doctor. She does. It lasts for several months. Once his wife finds out she doesn’t fall apart. Her parents, his parents forgive him and expect her to. The plot was fine. The characters were too wooden. This is where good editors could make a difference.
Please, for the sake of writers everywhere, hire an editor. After slogging through a dozen run-on sentences, the amateur descriptions of the heroine's looks, jumping tenses, and the newbie grammatical errors that always raise my hackles, this book hit the wall with a satisfying thud. A shame, really, because the author seemed to have a decent story in mind. It's just lost in her eagerness to publish with less than stellar writing skills.
I....can’t even believe I read this. It is atrocious and just plain bad. The cheater husband doesn’t grovel, has baby with OW, and the wife forgives all. No....just no. I would zero rate this if I could.
This book kept me entertained and I didn’t want to put this book down, that is why I gave it 3.5 Stars. I believe David the H is an selfish ass and Alexa way too quick to forgive, she is a much better person than I am.
I Absolutely Love This Story. It showed courage and strength in the most difficult of situations. I love how the Author brought the story and the characters together and how she made the situation work for everyone. David and Alexa are both working professionals, David is a Doctor and Alexa is a lawyer. Sometimes with people having such demanding careers, life gets in the way. Alexa has noticed that David had been staying out later and later, giving her one excuse after another as to why he will either be late or can't leave his meetings. She has also noticed that their sex life is null and void.
Alexa suffers the Ultimate Betrayal at the hands of her husband and to make matters worse, this betrayal will be staring her in the face, for a long time. Alexa isn't sure if she could forgive him and even if she could, she would Never be able to forget.
Good story about making lemonade out of lemons. Wife is in the middle of the situation that she has no control of because (to quote an earlier reviewer), her husband "couldn't keep it in his pants". I really enjoyed the book and it ended much different than I expected.
Different, lawyer defends the "other woman" who is pregnant with her husband's child...the writing and story were good, not sure why other's didn't like it as well as I did.
Author who let’s cheaters get away with no accountability whatsoever. H (David) cheats on his wife(Alexa) with a secretary (Rachel) that is also married to Trent with children and gets pregnant. She confronts David and he tells her handle and he wants nothing to do with the child because it will ruin his marriage and career. She gets drunk while being pregnant drives and it results in a child fatality. Alexa is lawyer and ends up having to defend Rachel while in the beginning of defense her husband tells her about the affair and child.. she moves out for week and then he literally comes and says move back in her friend she is staying with basically says he loves you blah blah and bullies her to move back home. Alexa can’t have kids and he spins this as his way of this being a miracle. The baby is born with Down syndrome she wants nothing to do with the baby and her family bully and trick her into spending time with the baby.. Rachel gets 2 years for crime which isn’t even logical. Alexa takes baby every other weekend to see Rachel. Mind you husband does absolutely nothing to make up for what he did NOTHING! Rachel gets out and moves to Florida to be by her ex and the kids and hopes to win him back. So cheaters get no real action towards them. The most David got was Trent beat him up. That’s it!
So, many would categorize this book in the “cheating romance” genre and it fit the bill, until it didn’t.
The storyline was good and intriguing, I could feel emotions pouring from the page, but at some point in this book, we see less and less of the h and H. Which is odd because I read the book BECAUSE of the h and H. I finished and closed the book with two thoughts- 1) is there a sequel so we can see what actually happens to their relationship and 2) what? That’s it?
I don’t want to write any spoilers and honestly, not sure I’d recommend this book, unless the reader could borrow it. I doubt I purchase this book and I double doubt I reread it.
In the end.... was so good until it just - puttered? Focused on other subject matters?
The book started off flat and was almost like the facts of the story were being fired out like rounds from a machine gun. Characters were two dimensional and predictably stereotypical. I skipped to later on to see if any elements of the plot line intrigued me. I read a while and the next thing I know I was in a detailed description of an intimate encounter between the man and his wife. They were married so what’s the issue? Only a few chapters earlier the same man was very passionately having sex with and impregnating another woman. The story also delivered in sensuous detail. The whole story sickened me. I won’t be reading any more from this author.
Wow, I really enjoyed this book. It was well written with just a few punctuation issues but not enough to distract. ****possible spoilers**** I felt for Alexa after what David did but it seemed to me he got off easy. Rachel was just looking for attention ,and at first, I did not like her but she grew on me. I am not condoning cheating in any form let me be clear but Rachel was not alone in that bed. Rachel made mistakes but she truly paid for them. Alexa's character to me was kind of cold and standoffish but she warmed up eventually. All in all a good book! It will be a re read for me. Thank you.
only show the passion between the mistress never the WIFE?
How come you never show the firey passion between the married couple but you do the mistress? Disgusting to hear how he went at each other when they met up yet he loved his wife so much you never see that passion? He NEVER EVER thanks his wife for stepping in to what is claimed to be a mother but wishes his mistress a goodbye? Come on at least show he cares for his wife somewhat!? The fact that his last ‘passion’ was with his mistress and never his wife is gross
