Picture Perfect

Rate this book
On the outside, Devin Thompson looks like he has it all - charm, good looks, and a scholarship every art major at Sanhope would kill for. But on the inside, he’s dying. His family is falling apart, his grades are dropping, and his girlfriend just dumped him for his hockey team rival, who also happens to be his younger brother. Not to mention he hasn’t been able to snap a decent picture for his senior portfolio in weeks. But when a sultry redhead with fire burning in her eyes struts across his path, he thinks he may have finally found his muse…

Angela “Angel” Davis learned early on that life never offers any hand-outs. And she’s getting burned out. Between juggling her nights as an exotic dancer at a men’s private club and struggling to keep up with her elementary education courses during the day, she barely has time to think of the future. Not that she wants to. The future implies planning, and Angel is no stranger to broken dreams. Then she meets Devin, a man who’s so wrong for her, yet she can’t seem to stay away from.

When Devin offers to take her on as his private model, Angel finds the cash hard to refuse. Each has something the other desperately needs, and neither one is willing to walk away. As their professional relationship spirals out of control into something more, they learn sometimes the wrong person can be the only right person, and that life - and people - are rarely picture perfect.

I'm a Southern girl who's spent the last few years freezing my toosh off up north. Except for the snow, things are pretty good. I love sunshine, sweet tea, and romances that touch my heart. A lifelong romantic, I found my own prince charming at an online dating site. Six months later, he asked me to marry him. Picture Perfect is my debut novel.

When I came across this I figured it would be a good, lighthearted steamy NA romance. Exactly what I was in the mood for. Yeah... not so much. Turns out, there was a lot more of a deep, emotional and somewhat heartbreaking story goin on behind that great cover! I loved it! While it wasn't what I was expecting going in, it turned out to be so much more! Our two main characters are harboring some serious deep hurts from their pasts that makes it hard for them to live in the present, let alone look towards a future. When they meet it's almost like the sunshine after a rainstorm for them, as corny as that sounds. They find in each other what they haven't been able to find in anyone or anything else. Hope. Something to look forward to. And together they decide to move out of the darkness and into the light. (I'm all kinds of cheesy today ;) )

"My mother always said two alike souls
called to each other, reaching for one
another. Sometimes when you met the
right person, no matter how wrong they
seemed at first, you just knew there was
something about them you were going to
love. And my heart had fallen, hook,
line, and sinker."

I really enjoyed this one! I felt like the writing was well done and the characters were well written and developed. The story flowed very nicely and I was very eager to finally learn about Devin's and Angel's big secrets. Once they finally came out, it pulled at my heartstrings what those two went through. I also like how they felt real. Their actions and reactions to things were how I would see it going in real life, not how some books can kind of gloss over or sugarcoat it to make it "read" better. I also loved how this was a complete story. While there was a lot of things going on for the leads, as far as I could tell, there was closure for all of it. Nothing seemed to be left hanging which is always appreciated. And if I'm not mistaken, this is a debut novel which goes to show Ms. Dixon has some real talent! I am definitely looking forward to more books from her!

I liked the beginning and the end, but the middle felt like it was trying too hard to make a story. I felt like it was 2 steps forward one back. It made me feel bored, and very anxious for some resolution. Although I will say when the resolution finally came (the end) it had that tied up too pretty kind of feel. The whole rest of he book was about the ugliness life can throw at you, but how you can find beauty in the pain, and healing from the scars. Then the end comes and every one has a happy ending all of a sudden. That's not like real life! You just negated the life lessons you spent the book trying to teach. I am a fan of HEA, don't get me wrong... Hell I practically live for them, but when evvvveryone in the story has this amazing change of heart all at the same time so the story can be over, it just makes me roll my eyes.

An emotional sweet story which was well written.

The build up to the part where the main characters finally got together was hot and sweet but felt it was a bit slow getting there.

Overall a good read.

Full review coming soon (hopefully)

In brief, the book had a strong start but got progressively cheesier. It also suffered from building up to a 'big reveal' moment that turned out to not be that big. It was an okay read that had an ending too convenient for my taste.

Disappointing. The characters were underdeveloped and I was unable to relate to them. I thought the whole storyline was contrived. Major letdown.

Great book! Loved it! I couldn't put the book down. I liked the fact that Devin and Angel didn't 'get' together until around 73% of the book. Mainly because whenever I read a book where the heroine is a stripper, she is made out to sound kind of like a slut for the hero.

I couldn't help but hope Darcy broke up with Brayden while I read this book. He was such a huge douche and why Darcy was with him I had no idea. I'll admit, at first when Devin found out that Darcy was cheating I didn't feel resentment towards the two of them, I was actually quite happy. It felt like I was reading the end of a love triangle book and Darcy and Brayden would live happily ever after and Devin would forgive Braydon. But then I found out that Braydon was the biggest jerk ALIVE and I was so happy that Darcy felt jealous of Angel.

Anyways....

I loved that Angel was a smart girl and didn't act like some stupid bimbo, or turn suicidal or a slut or anything like that . She may have had major problems but to me she was brave.

Don't want It to give anything major away so I'm going to stop... After I say that Curtis....perverted CREEP!

This is a pretty decent book and it is a relative quick read.

Angel is in college perusing an education degree and has tuition and some heavy duty medial bills to pay; as she doesn't have many resources she turns to stripping. She hates what she does but she really needs the money.

Devin, on the other hand, is a rich college student, a photography major and a hockey player. On the surface he seems to lead a golden life, however, there are dark elements in his life (a cheating girlfriend; bad blood between him and his younger brother; and a dysfunctional family life).

During a chance encounter they meet and Devin asks Angel to model for him as part of a photography project. The sparks fly, however they are hesitant to get involved as they both have trust issues. Nevertheless, they end up falling for each other.

The book resolves the issues with the characters a little to contritely, however, overall this is a pretty decent book. The book has no cliffy and it has a HEA.

What to say, this book was definitely a fast read and I got hooked from the first chapter. From the long car travel, I was able to finish this book. I guess all I can say is that the moment Devin and Angel met, sparks and tension was definitely in the air and you can't help but turn to the next page and see what really happened to both of them, what happened to Angel and her scar, the fight between Brayden and Devin, the list goes on (can't get enough of them). I wish that there would be a second book but really, this books ending was one happily ever after.

This book was simply meh. Not great, but not horrible. Lots and lots of angst before everything was tied up into a nice neat little bow.

My main problem was just that I could not get into the story. I had mad ADD the entire time I was reading, and ended up skimming to the end just to see how his pictures turned out. I don't think I'd necessarily recommend it to anyone, but its free on amazon sometime, it may be worth checking out.

Interesting story. I liked it, but I didn't love it. The story didn't suck me right in. I didn't feel for the characters the way I probably should have, didn't quite connect to them. But it was an ok read.
