I live in Washington, DC with my husband, kids, two cats and a changing menagerie of other small beasts.

I worked in both the arts and in the business world before giving into my love of story telling after the birth of my oldest -- although it wasn't until after the birth of my youngest when I suddenly had full-time childcare that it all came together for me.

I love discussing books -- almost any books at any time.

One of my great joys is having my children get old enough that we can all read the same things and talk. I am so happy that YA is the flourishing world that it is.

And of course I love Romance. I started back with Kathleen Woodiwiss and Johanna Lindsay and have never given them up since -- although there were a few slow spots along the way.

This is the second installment of Ms. Kent’s Desire series, and this is Rose’s story and the price she pays for giving into her desire to be free of worry for just one warm summer afternoon.

The hero of this story, Captain Wulf Huntington, we met briefly in the first book and I just knew this guy was going to be complex and compelling. He’s an Alpha hero to the bone, big, strong and handsome; man who’s been through hell while in battle at Waterloo and whose personal story, when he finally breaks down and tells it, will break your heart.

In the Prologue, we meet the young Lady Rosalind Burberry who is tending her own gardens and is having a ‘fight’ with a rose-bush that’s too stubborn to budge, and out of the blue a young, strong and way too good-looking man stops by to help her out with it. Both are immediately taken with each other, regardless of her married state, which of course he knows nothing about. Talk about sexual tension!

Wulf is on his way to Lord Burberry with an errand and coming upon this beautiful woman who is flirting with him and is desirous of his ‘full’ attention is what he feels something he needs to cleanse himself from all the carnage he’d witnessed from the battles he’s been into, and Rose feels that after many years of celibacy in her married life, it’s something her soul just had to give into, to prove that she’s still a woman. Neither is aware that the price they’ll be paying for that afternoon would be high and the memories would be with both through the next five years of their life.

Once more Lavinia Kent goes all out in her characterization of these two very stubborn, very strong and very passionate people. I loved them both and yet I wanted to strangle Rose! No, I’m not going to tell you why. You’ll need to read the book to find out why.

There’s so much I want to ‘blurt’ out about this book, but if I start ‘gushing’ I’m sure I’ll be giving away too much of the plot! Needles to say, there’s a mystery here too, great dialogue and secondary characters of Marguerite, Rose’s sister and Tristan, Wulf’s friend as well as a comeback of a sort by Lady Smythe-Burke and her nephew, Duke of Westlake.

There’s only one thing I found a bit too irritating and it’s Rosalind’s indecision and constant back and forth in her own reasoning about why she’s set on a course of action. I think it just went on too long. That however did not make me enjoy this book any less.

For some reason, I noticed that this book is even longer than the first by a good margin, yet only priced at $2.99. I highly recommend it and hope you’ll sample it on Amazon, like I did, and buy it.

I cannot tell you how eager I am to read the last book in this trilogy, ‘Taste of Desire’ which will be Tristan’s story. I just read the sample of it and went numb, and I bet you would too! It’s coming out in late February and I am glad it’s a short month!

A cute historical romance. I found it a bit dragging at times, it seems to me it was long. Mostly I'm not sure why the heroine had to pay for the hero's mistakes. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. He was definitely in this latter category.

And I admit hitting the target twice with one shot was a little stretch of the imagination :)

The subplot was really weak.

Honour and misunderstandings make for a good read.

Wulf Huntingdon hero of Waterloo thinks himself manipulated by ladies. He has lost so much that his grief blinds him from the truth of a lady's nature. He arrived in an errand for his step father to collect books bequeathed to his stepfather by the man whom Wulf has greatly admired and inadvertently conoodled.
Widow Rose knows the truth of their own relationship but not how Wolf's misunderstandings has contributed to his contempt of her.
A story written in an imaginative way, with hidden gems of confusion throughout. Punctuated with heart rendering moments of honesty and betrayal.
Wolf's character is strong, well written and passionate in every way.
Rose is logical and clear headed a d plain speaking. Her desire to remarry and have a father to get daughter is the opportunity for others to meddle in their lives.
Unbeknownst to them they are both being managed.
Nice to see Westlake make a return. And regency camaraderie.

I thought this was a particularly complicated tale of infidelity, confused emotions, women's lib and mystery all thrown together for you to plow through. did I mention that the confused and perennially angry with each other lead characters are forever doing it like rabbits?
some may call this a tale of love lost and found or second chances. I would simply call it lust, affections and complications.

I picked this up because of the adultery angle, but I was quickly disappointed when it became clear that the heroine's husband had essentially given her permission to cheat. I didn't see the point in continuing if the bulk of the conflict was removed. That, and massive amount of exposition had me giving up early.

Yeah, it was o.k. but not as good as book 1. I thought it took a long time getting to the "getting married" bit (about 60% through the book). I got a bit fed up waiting for something notable to happen.
Average read, imo.
