I was eager to finally read this book, as Joseph Sibley felt like almost the stuff of urban legend when I would go on retreats at the former River Ridge Farm as a teen. I would have liked to see a little bit more space devoted to River Ridge, but it turned out he had a lot of other things he was up to before it got built. I got to learn a lot of facts about why he was such a big deal in the area and have some myths busted along the way. He turned out to be a fascinating, complex historical figure. I would recommend this book to anyone interested in Venango County history and/or anyone interested in late 19th century U.S. politicians.

Fascinating book. Left me with more questions. I will visit the Franklin Cemetery to check out the Sibley family. Are there family members living in the area. Who is Jack Mays?

Fascinating look at someone you've most likely never heard of.

I was memorized by this book having been born in raised in Franklin Pennsylvania. It’s incredible that I recall River Ridge, Miller Sibley pool, the old dilapidated Sibley mansion and so much more. Hard to believe all Sibley accomplished. I could not put this book down!!
