The heroine: Alyssa - she works at her family taffy shop in Seaside. She lost her high school boyfriend in a car accident. She was in the car with him and blames herself.
The Hero(es): Demetri - a rockstar (along with his brother Alec). Former drug addict and player. He has been in love twice in his life. His first love slept with his brother, got pregnant and died, and his second love was Nat from book one. He was still great friends with her.
The Story: Demetri is still in Seaside trying to pick himself back up after nearly killing himself in a car accident when he starts working at the Taffy shop across the street from the one Alyssa works at. They meet and Demetri is instantly attracted to Alyssa. Alyssa sees pain in his eyes that looks similar to what she sees in the mirror each morning.
The narration was done by Luci Christian and Aaron Landon. Though I love the fact that there was dual narration, I wasn’t too fond of these narrators. Aaron landon has kind of a soft voice which didn’t quite fit the over 6 ft tall bad boy rocker. Luci was fine for Alyssa, but something was missing. It might have been the depressing storyline.
Alyssa just couldn’t seem to get over the death of her boyfriend, which got to me. I liked the beginning when Demetri and Alyssa were first attracted to each other. When Alyssa watched Demetri and couldn’t help herself. However, after it came out that she lost her boyfriend, it was all about that.
I don’t mind books where the main characters are getting over a trauma and though I know it takes a while to get over things like that, I don’t like it when it takes the majority of the book to do it. I like the romance books to be more about the romance and less about the angst. Granted the storyline about the grief group was good, but overall I just wanted more romance and less grief and depression.

I have two words for you, DEMETRI DANIELS! Ok so I'll admit, while reading Tear, I was completely Team Alec. He really stole my heart, he is definitely in my top 10 list of book boyfriends! After reading Pull, Demetri might quite possibly be my #1 book boyfriend. He's flirty, funny, hot, sarcastic, oh and how can I forget? He's a rockstar! What's not to love?! Seriously, this book was awesome. I read it in a day and a half, I really couldn't put it down. In this book we really get to see the struggles Demetri went through that caused him to become addicted to alcohol and drugs. He struggles every day trying to stay clean and out of the public eye. He meets Alyssa, immediately intrigued by her, and well he doesn't have any friends in Seaside and he could really use a friend. Alyssa struggles with a similar past, which connects them to each other even more. I personally felt a connection to Alyssa and her panic attacks that she faces. It really is an inspiring story about overcoming hardships, forgiving, love lost, and new love found. I really enjoyed it and I cannot wait to read the next book, Shatter! Thank you Rachel Van Dyken for another amazing read!

“Sometimes when love pushes you, it’s time to pull until you snap.”
I have been waiting for Pull to be released since reading Tear back in November. I’ve been teased mercilessly by the little “teaser” quotes posted on Facebook by Rachel VanDyken over the past few months that I was near ready to pull my hair out. Finally, it’s in my hands (well, on my iPad) and I read it straight through in one day. True to the style and feel of Tear, this sequel is a gritty, emotional, true-to life and angsty romance that I couldn’t put down.
While in Tear, I felt a few plot lines were "rushed" at the end and that there were some inconsistencies in Nat's character - Pull didn't have these issues. Yes, the "climax" kind of hit all at once, but it wasn't forced and it played out in very realistic way. I didn't feel that any of the plot lines were condensed inappropriately. Everything was fleshed out nicely.
Our main character this time is Demetri, the slightly ADD, recovering drug and alcohol addicted brother who’s trying to stay on the straight and narrow now that he survived a near-fatal car crash. Nat cons Demetri into working at Seaside Taffy to help keep himself out of trouble while Alec & Nat are in LA. He sits on the corner singing the jingle and passing out taffy samples.
Enter Alyssa, the taffy girl from the store across the street. If Alec and Demetri had emotional baggage, Alyssa has a truck-full. At least in her view. Truly her baggage isn’t much different from what Demetri is carrying, but she hasn’t dealt with it as well. Not that drugs and alcohol are a good way of dealing with past pain – but Demetri has grown up in Pull. He is staying clean and even though he questions his value as a friend and his worth as a person, he has that “rock star ego” that keeps him putting one foot in front of the other. He also has a wonderful support system in Alec and Nat, and has actually learned a thing or two from Mrs. Murray (Nat’s mom and Demetri’s psychiatrist).
The fragile relationship that grows between Demetri and Alyssa unfolds beautifully. It’s complex and fraught with emotional outbursts and tender moments. The two of them are so much alike and yet so different. They carry similar pain but Demetri has reached a point that he can help Alyssa deal with hers. He knows when to push and when to pull, and he knows when to give her space. Through their experiences together they learn that “…love, the type of love that’s real…it’s selfless, it’s persistent. Real love pushes your boundaries, it pulls you until you snap, and then when you think you can’t take anymore, it’s relentless in its pursuit of your body, soul, and heart.”
Shatter, the third book in the Seaside series, can’t come soon enough.

2016 Re-Read Update: Demetri became my first book boyfriend and still has my heart three years later (note: I first read this book on March 13, 2013). It seems odd to me that it's been three years since I first read this. Definitely was overdue for a re-read. My opinions that I wrote three years ago still remain true to this day, the only difference is that I'm more Team Demetri than I am Team Alyssa. Demetri really matures and finds himself in this book. I can't wait to get lost in Shatter, which is my absolute favorite book by Rachel.
I waited impatiently for Pull to be released as Tear left me wanting more.
Pull is told from the viewpoints of Demetri and Alyssa, a wounded girl who is less than a shadow of her former self.
I went from being Team Alec {and Team Alec & Nat} to being Team Demetri & Alyssa pretty fast. And if I'm to be perfectly honest, I was Team Alyssa throughout the entire book.
I loved watching Demetri grow up in this book; I loved watching Alyssa heal. I laughed, I cried...I was angry...scared...you really go on an emotional roller coaster, but the ride is so, so worth it.
Nat and Alec make an appearance or two and as I have come to expect, Security dude Bob is around to bring comic relief. Jaymeson, I'm reserving opinion on him until I get to know him better, but I'm not really sure I like him at this point.
I have a suspicion that things aren't going to be all peachy in the next book, especially as it's named Shatter.
I could not recommend this more than I already have. If you want a book that will keep you occupied on a Sunday afternoon when no one else is around - definitely read Pull. What? You haven't read Tear? SPEND ALL DAY READING BOTH BOOKS. And then join the rest of us who are waiting impatiently for May 19th to get here.

¡¡Dios!! Este libro me ha encantado, de principio a fin!! Desde la primera página me tenía totalmente enredada y cautivada, tanto que lo empecé sobre las 10:30 y lo he terminado alrededor de las 3 de la tarde. *-* No he leído el primero, ni lo voy a leer, y tampoco es que me haya hecho mucha falta porque se le sigue bien el ritmo a Pull. Aunque me entran ganas por saber más de Nat, pero dudo que lo haga. No es el primer libro que leo de Rachel Van Dyken, y no creo que sea el último.
No sé cómo expresarme, pero es que este libro es puro amor. Lo refrescante de haber leído este libro ha sido que por mucho que Alyssa empujaba lejos a Demetri, él no se ha rendido con ella ni por un sólo minuto: daba igual lo que ella le dijera, él siempre estaba ahí, para las buenas como para las malas.

Y DEMETRI. MI DEMETRI. QUÉ BUENO ES DIOS. Es... genial. Es una estrella de rock con su hermano Alec y sólo tiene como 3 amigos reales, en los que están su hermano, su guardaespalda y Nat, la novia de Alec. Poco a poco nos va contando un poco sobre su vida y lo que pasó en el anterior libro (triángulo Alec-Nat-Demetri) y su historia... ¡¡Madre mía!! Me ha tenido al borde de las lágrimas. Y luego está esa devoción que tiene por Alyssa *ah*. Es un poco arrogante, aunque muy divertido y encantador. Me ha recordado un montón a Damon Salvatore cada vez que hacía o decía una de las suyas
Y cuando está en la tienda de caramelos y se pone a bailar...
Prácticamente me estaba muriendo de la risa xD.
Alyssa me ha gustado mucho, no tengo ninguna pega sobre ella. Y Brady... todo el mundo lo tenía en un pedestal y al final resultó ser todo lo contrario a lo que la gente creía. Peor, ¡engañó a Alyssa y encima dejó embarazada a una chica! I mean what.
Las escenas entre Demetri y Alyssa son para suspirar. Aunque el final me ha dejado un poco desconcertada y aún más con la sinopsis del tercer libro... Aún así, ¡totalmente recomendable!

This book (and its prequel Tear) came highly recommended by a close friend of mine. So when I got the chance to read and review them both in exchange for my honest opinion, I jumped on the chance.
Pull, was (thankfully and in my opinion), so much better than Tear. The author seemed to spend more time on her characters this time around, expanding upon Demetri Daniels from the first book, while creating a sad and compelling new character in Alyssa. She takes you through their lives, their pain, their grief and finally their start to healing.
You can’t help but feel sorry for Alyssa, who has fallen into a deep depression after the sudden death of her boyfriend Brady. She can’t let go of him, and even though she’s been in therapy, she still doesn’t feel like she can open up about the whole truth. When she meets Demetri, he makes her laugh. He opens her up to the feelings she’s long since let go of, and he puts a smile on her face again. When though he becomes her group leader, he helps her farther explore her feelings, and ends up exposing himself to a secret no one else knows. A secret involving Alyssa’s ex Brady.
I thoroughly enjoyed watching the relationship between Demetri and Alyssa build. At first it was a tentative friendship, two damaged souls leaning on each other for support while still managing to keep their secrets safe. As their relationship continues, and the feelings grow deeper, the find that they can confide in each other and most importantly, even though they have their secrets, they can still be loved.
I am now eagerly waiting to get my hands on a copy of The third installment in the Seaside series, Shatter.

I.LOVED.THIS.BOOK!!!
DEMETRI DANIELS! Oh my lord!! swoon worthy!! although I'll admit, while reading Tear, I was completely Team Alec 100% up until the last few chapters when all the REAL reason behind everything came out.
I loved the dynamic between these two broken charterers. I laughed. I crying. I got angry. I yelled at my kindle ( because all SANE people do that right?!?)
My favourite quotes;
"That's all I need. I picture of me humping the unicorn "
" the cars stopped and all the little kids got out.
I was still stuck."
" need help?" Alyssa asked leaning over my shoulder. My right knee was caught underneath the car. I was seriously contemplating just lifting the car like a skirt and walking off, but then I'd be flintstone-ing it all the way back to the house in the rain.
About 65% OMGOSH I have a BAD feeling about which "football" player holly was having a baby with!! I hope to god that I'm wrong!! If I'm wright all I can say is FU Brady ;(
Than it was CONFIRMED!! ! BOO BRADY!!!! I really truly HATED HIM after that!!
I'm so glad they got their HEA. ❤❤❤❤

What can I say about Pull? I must admit that I was eagerly awaiting the release of this book. After reading the first book in this series, Tear I could not wait to see what Rachel Van Dyken had up her sleeve with Demetri Daniels in Pull. And let me tell you she did not disappoint. I do not want to give anything away, so what I will say is that the book and her writing gets to you, hooks you, grabs you and PULLS you right in. Her characters are real and therefore flawed. You get to see and live through their raw and often times gritty emotional journey through both their struggles with their past and their current everyday life. I definitely recommend this book. I not only did not want to put this book down, I also didn’t want it to end! (My only other recommendation is while you could read just this book, if you want to truly understand Demetri, PLEASE read Tear first!)

I really love the characters that this author creates, they are so full of life and wit. They feel like family, you know, the sort of characters you miss when the book is over.
When I first started this book I wasn't too sure. I missed Nat, she was so funny and sweet whereas Alyssa is well, a bit depressing quite frankly. Also, I wasn't really much of a Demetri fan in Tear so reading all about him didn't appeal. I quickly changed my mind however. Demetri is a lovely guy, so broken but so honest and open. His mind flits from one thing to another, unable to focus for too long on one thing but always reacting genuinely. His ego was hilarious.
This story was just as intense as Tear but right from the off. Tear had a light hearted high school start to it and then got serious, Pull was pretty serious from the start. And just when I thought it was quite messed up enough it then cranked up a gear.
The romance was beautiful but not as intensely passionate as in Tear. It was more two desperate souls finding just what they needed from each other.
I was all ready to give this a 5 star but the ending frightened me.
I'm sure I've read other books that better tackle grief and debilitating depression but this author creates such fun characters that I can't help but love.

OH MY GOSH... This is just an amazing book. I laughed (a lot), I cried, I got angry (very angry). Demetri...oh sweet Demetri...he is amazing in this book. You know how in the first one you got glimpses of his sweetness, but then it got over shadowed by his stupidity...yea not in this one...just his amazingness (is that a word?). His love for Alyssa is just unyielding! He really is just a sweaty who has been hurt more than anyone should be! Alyssa poor sweet Alyssa, also has been hurt more than any human should be, and oh the hurt to come..

In fact I may go back and read both over and over until the third one comes out! This book has everything you need and want from a love story... hot bad boy, sweet good girl, fame, unconditional love, and gut wrenching heart break. In the best way possible of course! Pull is the second book in the Seaside series and it helps if you read Tear to see why Demetri is the way he is. This book is again a bit YA for me, but I do like these characters. This review may also spoil the first book.
Demetri is fixed, witty, but still heartbroken. He has made a stellar comeback from the car wreck that almost ended his life, to find himself lonely and still stuck in Seaside. Demetri sees Mrs. Murray and has now actually gotten a real job at the taffy shop. He needs more, he needs friends in his life other that Nat and Alec. While working at the taffy shop he is accosted by Alyssa.
Alyssa lives in Seaside and works at her parents taffy shop, the competition to the shop that Demetri works at. She is beautiful, but has an ugly past that she just can't seem to let go. Her beauty attracts Demetri, but her personality sets him into hot pursuit. Alyssa would rather pay for her past and be alone, much to Demetri's dismay.
These two strike up a friendship and see where it will go from there. They both have such horrible things in their pasts, it is hard for them to move forward together. It will take time and lots of mistakes to make this friendship/relationship work.
I think this was a great second book, kept me interested in Demetri's story. I like his witty personality and quick sexual innuendos. I also liked that the other characters were present in the story so you still knew what was going on with them.

I read this book in one day. Seriously. I spent all day lying on my couch reading on my Kindle app on my phone. It was that good.
Now, if you haven't read the first book in the series, I strongly recommend that you do. You don't have to, Rachel Van Dyken does a good job of catching you up on what you missed in Tear, but reading the first book really helps you understand Demetri and what's he's been going through better.
I really liked Alyssa as the female lead in this story. I liked seeing how broken she was, and how she had to put herself back together. And I really liked seeing Demetri with her. They worked, when you wouldn't think that they would.
Maybe it's just me, but I really felt like this story dug into some topics that aren't typical for the romance genre. The grief and loss theme was pretty prevalent throughout the story, and the author did a great job making it feel real. By the time I was finished with the book I was so invested in these characters and what they'd been through that I felt like I had been right there with them. I've experienced loss of a loved one first hand, and the author did an amazing job of capturing those real-life emotions and behaviors and all the other crap you go through as you deal and transforming them into words on the page for the readers.

I'll be honest. I was a bit wary about this book since it focused more on Demetri as he was my least favorite character in Tear; however, I was pleasantly surprised by his story. Demetri showed a more grown-up side to himself laced with a bit of his former egotistical self that allowed for more laughs this time than eye-rolling.
I adored the story between him and Alyssa. How they healed each other was touching - that's the kind of hero a girl wants, the one that will tell them no, they are never giving up. Needless to say, he quickly moved up into favorite character territory and I found myself rooting on their happily ever after, even moreso than I did for his brother and Nat.
I fell in love with Alyssa - she was such a complex character. All I wanted was for her to find her heart again and be happy as she deserved it. It was a great journey, being with her as she healed from the past.
The truth behind Brady was a nice twist. I knew there had to be something about Alyssa's former boyfriend that just wasn't right and Miss Van Dyken didn't disappoint. Very nice twist, I might add.
Looking forward to the third installment as I don't want to let these guys go just yet! And I'm suddenly craving some taffy...

So the gang from Tear is back with the addition of, most notably, Alyssa—Demetri’s muse, love of his life, and happily ever after. And then there’s Jaymeson—a hot British actor friend of AD2, who it appears we’ll be seeing a lot more of in the third installment of the series, Shattered.
I’ll admit, I was a huge Alec fan while reading Tear, but now, I’m not so sure. He seems to be keeping an awful lot of secrets… I most definitely love, love, love Demetri more than ever! I mean, who would have thought that the screwed up, immature, playboy addict with ginormous baggage, could actually be good for another person, never mind a whole group! But Demetri proved to be just that. He healed, grew, and became a swoon worthy man in Pull.
This book is about grief, love, loss, and friendship. But most importantly, it’s about letting go and learning how to live once again. I absolutely loved it and cannot wait for the release of Shattered!

I had forgotten how much I liked Van Dyken's writing until I read this sequel. The first book was filled with a little more angst and the female MC wasn't as strong as this one. This time, Van Dyken pulls out the stops and gives us a female lead who has a past, is sad, but won't be walked over and has a mouth on her like a sailor (she doesn't really cuss, but she doesn't back down). I just loved her spirit and how she stood up for herself even as she fell for the rockstar.
The rockstar was growing up and realizing that life isn't just a party. I could feel the absence of his entourage, agent, parents, etc but it was a solid authoring decision to leave him drifting so he could find himself.
This is a great story with fun, mouthy, strong characters who drive the story to its inevitable happy ending. You don't feel robbed because of the easy to predict ending, but instead you're so invested in her well-written characters that you're just happy that they're happy.
Read it. You'll like it.

I enjoyed Part 2 of the Seaside series. The author did a great job with Demetri's story. Book two was well edited like book one which is nice compared to a lot ebooks out there! I thought it was a great story line and the author did well with a heavy subject of grief and loss. The only complaint: I did have an issue with the conflict of interest with Mrs. Murray. She seemed to be crossing the dual relationship role with continuing to see Demetri since he is her daughter's boyfriend's brother, the fact she sees him outside of the therapeutic setting, and letting confidential information slip. I have a mental health background so that is probably why it even bothered me. :)
It was a quick and easy read that I couldn't put down. I will definitely be checking out for more from this author. I'm looking forward to book three in this series.

So for the 2nd installment of the Seaside novels we pick up a few months after the accident. Demitri is on the road to recovery and board out of his mind. Having turned his alcohol and drug addiction into a taffy addiction (def an upgrade) he soon realizes he cant just stay at home. So being the good friend that she is Nat gets him a job at Seaside Taffy. Though this keeps him busy he isnt exactly happy about it, until he meets the competition, Alyssa. Fighting her own past demons the last thing Alyssa wants is a boy interested in her, but Demitri just wont give up. Pushing Alyssa may not be the best thing for either of them as the can of worms opened may destroy more than their possible relationship. I loved this book because you got to understand the characters more and the book was written more from Demitri and Alyssa's points of view...once again a homerun by Rachel!

I must confess that this is book two in The Seaside Series and I have not read book one. However, I didn't feel like I couldn't understand what was going on nor did I feel lost. If anything reading 'Pull' made me want to go back and read 'Tear' so I can be caught up! I was literally 'pulled' into this story immediately! It was so magnetic that I found that I couldn't put the book down! 'Pull' is full of powerful emotions: anger, sadness, love, and hate. It is a dynamic, edgy, and dramatic story! A book you won't soon forget, Rachel Van Dyken has done an excellent job crafting this story! I am now going to buy book one to catch up and then anxiously await the release of book three!

I just finished reading Pull: A Seaside Novel and let me tell you this book was amazing! I couldn't put it down. Rachel has a way of making you connect with the characters and feel like you are there watching everything happen. I loved Demetri in Tear because he was the bad boy and lets be honest who doesn't love a bad boy. But in Pull, I loved him for who he is and his integrity, not just because he was a hot bad boy who could sing and dance. You see so many facets of Demetri its amazing how much his character comes out of his shell and grows into a great man. I will recommend this book to anyone you likes to see someone who isn't perfect and knows it, face their demons and learn to heal. This was a great sequel to another great book and I can't wait for the next book to release.

First, can someone please help with these covers. They're so far from a fair representation of the stores and characters, it's a crime.
I didn't love the first book, but I did love the characters. Love triangles can make me uncomfortable. So I wasn't gungho about this one. However, this one was so much better. Demetri is a fabulous character. He's recovering from loss and learning to cope without drugs and alcohol. He finds Alyssa who's dealing with her own loss butt by shutting herself off from life. His wit and emotional growth carry the story.
I thought Demetri was charming and lovable. Alyssa's character at times lacked some of the dimension I would have hoped for, but overall I enjoyed the story a lot and will likely pick up #3 when it's out.

Beautiful but troubled rock star, Demetri Daniels, has had a rough life. From dealing with the death of his one true love to battling addiction, he has done it all. But when Alyssa from the competing taffy store stumbles into his life, sparks fly and no one can deny the pull they have towards each other. What Demetri doesn't realize is that Alyssa has also led a very troubled life, much to the same as his. This is another amazing book written by Rachel Van Dyken. Yes, we still get glimpses of Nat and Alec, which I know everyone wanted to hear. There are definitely some surprises that you would have never seen coming, but again another great book. Can't wait for Shatter...

This book is awesome. Rachel has hit another home run with Pull. I will not put spoilers in this review.
I fell in love with both of the male characters in the first book (Tear). In this book we get to journey with Demetri as he tries to straighten out his life. He meets Alyssa who has her own problems to deal with. The love that is found and shared and healing that frees them both is great.
I can't wait to share these books with my daughter when she is old enough. Such a wonderful read. Thanks to Rachel Van Dyken for allowing me to read the ARC of this book.

another book to add to my list of favourites! loved pull just as much as tear if not more, it had so much depth to the characters, all the hurt and pain, i felt it while reading, i admit i cried :(
i loved the twists that i definitly did not see coming. i also love the way the brothers interact, the bond jokes made me laugh out loud! im glad the text msgs were much easier to read this time. i cannot think of one thing that i didnt like about pull, it was perfect in my eyes! cannot wait for shatter! thank you rachel, pull was amazing!!

Thank you Rachel for another amazing book. The second Seaside Novel did not disappoint. Something about the bad boys falling hard that can get to your heart. Rachel's characters are truly believable and the way she portrays anxiety in this book hits it right on. As someone who have been through similar situations, it is nice to feel a connection to a character that feels real. I have to say that I am still torn between the two brothers, but either way this book is well worth the read. You will not be disappointed.

I loved this book! In Tear you got to know the characters and learn about them and the challenges they were facing. In Pull, you got a deep understanding of Demetri. Everyone thinks he has it so easy because he's a rock star. I like that Rachel gives you a good insight on the demons Demetri has to face on a day to day basis. You realize how sweet and caring he really is. It's nice to watch him learn to love himself, and become a great man. I'm so glad that he found Alyssa and they healed each other!

I just got back from vacation and finished reading this book. To be honest, I thought this installment read a tad slow at the beginning, BUT, once I got toward the end the author hit me, BAM!, with a HUGE shocker!! I immediately began to read faster and am DYING to know what is going to happen in the final book!!! I would have to say that in say, 5 or 6 chapters I fell for this book more so than the first one. I REALLY loved the twist and how it was worked in. NOW I just need to finish the trilogy! Thanks for this book!

I LOVED this book!!! To be honest, I love all of Rachel's books but this one was just outstanding. Alec is my favorite Daniels brother but I have a soft spot for Demetri. That soft spot grew even bigger after reading Pull. Alyssa's character was full of sorrow and wit that I just couldn't help but love her and feel sorry for her at the same time. Now, if I can just be patient long enough for Rachel to write Shatter.

Wow! As much as I loved Tear, I enjoyed Pull so much more. All I can say is DEMETRI DANIELS! *sigh* I warmed up to him at the end of Tear but I fell in love with him in Pull. I loved the split point-of-view story.
It really allowed you to get into his head and learn so much more about him! I really can't wait for the next one to come out! I need more Demetri in my life!

Loved It!! I enjoyed this second book in the series alot more than the first and im not sure why that is... Maybe it was Dimitri's character, i felt a special pull towards him..loved his inner thoughts they made me laugh out loud alot. Can not wait for Shatter, there seems to be a few secrets that may be revealed in that book...Hope it is released soon.
