Ok, I'll confess, there's just something masochistically gratifying about watching a previously terrible series death spiral into something with which mere words alone cannot do justice. At this point, it's common knowledge House of Night has never been good, what with its vapid writing, pathetic plotting, and super special heroine who comes with a way too unhealthy dose of double standards and hypocrisy, but with these last few entries, I honestly don't think the Casts even care anymore about the giant middle finger they're essentially giving the general reading public every time they publish another one of these, not when they're probably too busy rolling around in the money they've made milking this series.

In fact, I can't even say there's a single thing in Revealed that isn't rehashed, reused, or recycled from one of their previous (ill-received) entries. Neferet being more resilient than a cockroach? Check. People who somehow still refuse to believe that she's evil? Check (in book eleven no less). Zoey and her friends talking about forgiveness and acceptance while judging others? Check. Heath and Stark? What is this? 2008? But then I thought... if the Casts could get away with repeating ad nauseum basically the same plot points for like five books in a row without contributing anything meaningfully new towards an end game, surely, I could...?

...recycle an intro from another review? Ugh. Another one? This series should’ve ended books ago, but now every time a new House of Night comes out, I ask myself, why do I even bother? Because, let’s be real, between main villain slash evil vampire Neferet being more resilient than a cockroach, Zoey and the gang’s obnoxious petty drama, and the million side characters carefully crafted to take up space in lieu of real plots, these books have been treading water for awhile and sinking fast.

...recycle the entire plot summary from another review? So here’s the summary: yap yap yap, Neferet makes move, yap yap yap, Zoey, Heath, Stark, yap yap yap, Nefert’s minion's defeated (but only merely a setback for her), obligatory emotional moment. Really scraping the bottom of the barrel here, especially when the entire story revolves around... moving people into a basement. Wasn't the plot of one of the previous books about moving into some underground tunnels or something?

...recycle an entire rant about how the character development has gone around in circles since book I lost track from another review? I don’t even know why we even need all these characters. There are loads of perfectly good ones, like Damien, who’s been shoved into the background because either 1) nobody has a clue how to further develop the character or 2) gets lost in the shuffle because the book insists we revisit people I don't even remember the names of in random, pop up scenes that have nothing to do with the rest of the story. Or Dallas, who was a big deal in I don’t even remember the title of the book now but is somehow still around and is supposedly the A plot but does nothing substantive before the whole thing becomes one big WTF. Either way, PICK A COUPLE OF CHARACTERS AND STICK WITH THEM. But geez, stop interrupting the actual plot with nonstories that was actually addressed (rather terribly) three books ago! It just seems to me like there wasn’t enough plot and storyline for a full book so we had to be subjected to B stories about secondary characters who’ve long overstayed their welcome slash fifteen minutes of fame.

...recycle another rant about things not to do with these books? No, this entire series has overstayed its welcome. How many different people can one evil vampire trick? How many times can the ‘Vampire High Council’ continue to be completely useless before vampires actually notice and drop them? How many more characters can experience change of hearts and defect from one side to the other? How many more times can Zoey and/or her friends realize something about themselves? It shouldn’t have taken this long for Zoey and company to FINALLY realize their petty, annoying bickering isn’t accomplishing anything and just enabling Neferet. And throughout this book, THEY’RE STILL DOING IT!!!! GRRRRR!!!!! Can we just finally, FINALLY do something about Neferet SO THIS SERIES CAN FINALLY COME TO AN END!?!?!

...but then I realized, there *IS* one thing different about Revealed - one thing that pretty much validates what I said about the Casts not caring anymore. If you thought the writing was bad before, check out these choice quotes:
Grandma was beloved of the Great Mother, and drew her strength directly from our magickal Oklahoma earth.

“Silence, you fool! I come with an edict from Nyx!”

“He started it!” Stark shouted.

“Have care with the Armani dress, but kill them all!”

I swear, this is like what happens when the people who are supposed to die within the first fifteen minutes of a horror movie end up running the show.

Tldr: Is it over yet?

I hate reading comments where people are all like "we want the main character to die", "the series needs to end" seriously yeah you have a right to your own opinions but sheesh if you hate or dislike, loath, the series DON'T READ THEM then!!! I don't care that you don't like it, I do. I may agree on some aspects but I still realize others like them.

The most entertaining part of this series has always been and will always be the reactions of twelve year old girls who complain about us "haters" and demand that we stop reading their series if we don't like it.

I am so fucking sick and tired of the god damn point of views. There are way too fucking many. Any time the authors need to add in some filler, they add in half a chapter from some random ass character’s point of view, and it’s the mark of a lazy author. These ladies need to find some other way to get necessary information across, because I’m sick of reading five or six different point of views each book.

Stark is such a douchebag, too. I don’t know what I ever saw in him. All of the characters—with the exception of Aphrodite, Darius, and Thanatos—are nasty, disgusting, or flat as cardboard. I can’t stand any of them. They’re so horrifically fake it’s almost funny, but worse is they’re being sold to us as what real teenagers are like when it simply isn’t true.

For the love of god, just spell spaghetti the correct way you stupid fucking authors. You’re not funny, and you’re certainly not clever. Stop! The way they all treat Aphrodite appalls and disgusts me. Her father just died, and they’re sitting around at breakfast basically bad-talking her. Oh, and of course Stark has to turn into the possessive asshole in this book. How else will Zoey the bitch justify dating Aurox at the same time as Stark in the very near future? Here’s an idea Zoey…stop cheating on your boyfriends, and they might not have any reason to get “possessive” when you drool over other guys in front of them.

I love how the cats just seem to wander in and out of the series from time to time. Like nobody gives a shit if their cats aren’t mentioned in like two or three books. Whatever. Oh hey look, more pop culture references. Good authors typically tend to avoid those, not add them in whenever possible.

“Aphrodite, I’d chew poo and spit it down Stevie Rae’s throat if it would make her better.” – Zoey Redbird, page 204. I shit you not, that is a real, actual quote from this piece of shit. And she calls grilled cheese “grilled cheese sammiches and tomato poop”. Who the fuck says something like that? What is wrong with these people?

Oh, and

All this pointless book did was make me sympathize with Neferet and want her to come out on top. However, I don’t think that was the Cast’s intention. Too bad their main character is so fucking unlikable that even a sociopath who murders in cold blood is more likable than their “hero”. 0.5

Yeah, I understand people want this series to end. Yeah, I was one of them in the beginning. Yeah, the first couple books weren't so great, BUT the plot was strong, solid, which helped. The writing has become less annoying and childish and that makes a book better in quality. It doesn't matter how many books are in the story as long there is a solid plot line that isn't completely random. Can't people just enjoy a story because it's a story and not because it should end?
In my opinion, stories never should end, and that means this story shouldn't really have to end. If it ended now then the story would be broken and you'd have a lot of angry readers wondering what the hell happened.
Hell, if the books were combined there would only be five books, just a bit thicker. It's no different than Harry Potter or Mortal Instruments or even Twilight.
Be reasonable, not judgemental.

I know this is random and has nothing to do with the actual plot, but still... What's up with these covers? :P

Hidden: Zoey's face is, for the first time, fully revealed.

Revealed: Zoey's face (or is that Neferet's?) is hidden.

My thoughts about the series

I'm not sure if I should even bother writing a review for this, since I'll probably end up just ranting, but I guess I could say a little something about what happened in this eleventh installment. Just a heads-up: there are unmarked spoilers of the previous books ahead, so if you haven't read books 1-10, I wouldn't recommend reading the rest of my review (or reading those books, for that matter).

You see, I used to like this series. I thought the first books (up till book 4) were pretty much good and original.

On the fifth installment, Hunted, there was the introduction of Kalona and the whole A-ya stuff, if I'm not wrong, and then the downfall started, IMO.

If my memory doesn't fail me, that's when Stark shows up, too, to be added to the ever-growing list of Zoey's boyfriends. Also, by the end of book #6, Tempted, Heath dies, making Zoey's soul shatters or whatnot. Boy, was I pissed because of that cliffhanger.

With the 7th book, we were finally introduced to the third person POV of other characters (YESSSS!!! FINALLY!! Z's first person POV can be incredibly annoying), because Zoey's on the Otherworld and so we get to glimpse at the other characters' lives while she's not around them. Yet, to me, Burned was worse than the other books -- can't remember why, just that I disliked it more than its prequels.

I barely remember book #8, Awakened, although I think it has something to do with the whole Kalona-Neferet-White Bull blah blah blah and Zoey and Stark's fight and make-up sex sessions. I think that's when Nyx also kind of forgives Rephaim and he's transformed into a normal boy by night and a raven by day.

So, book 9, Destined. I once thought that was going to be the final book (yeah, I wish), but I was oh so, so wrong. Again, pretty much of what we had seen in the eighth book.

The tenth book, Hidden: starts with Lenobia's story (not so bad, BTW), and then we have the fire, blah blah, Nicole shows she's changed sides, Neferet tries to convince the White Bull to kill Zoey (can't she go and take a gun or something? Seriously, why rely solely on "magick"? *eyeroll*), Erin is a back-stabbing bitch (lol), Neferent kidnaps Grandma Redbird, Dragon dies, Aurox or whoever kinda throws Neferet from her penthouse... just to have Neferet not dying. Because the villain can't die just yet, right? [insert more eyerolling here]. The end... for now (yeah, I did notice that, unfortunately).

One thing that's really crazy is, I don't think the plot even gets to happen during a week -- each book as of lately barely covers a 3-day span, it seems. Not to mention they have about 300 pages each full of: I) bickering, II) inane dialogues, III) planning-but-not-really-doing, IV) crying and pity party, V) non-swear words used by Zoey (seriously, she acts like a ho but doesn't cuss? WTF?) VI) and a lot of pop references thrown in, for good measure. The real action or mildly interesting scenes? About only 10% of the book.

My thoughts on Revealed

(Contains unmarked spoilers)

Well, the eleventh book is pretty much just another filler for the series, yet I found myself liking it a tiny bit better than the others, for a change.

The reason is probably because there seemed to be more third person POVs than Zoey's POV. Plus I actually giggled/snorted at some remarks and scenes (Aprodite's and Aurox/Heath's).

We also get to see a bit of Neferet's backstory -- although I'm guessing it was already told in her novella, which I haven't read.

I just don't understand what the hell Aphrodite was thinking by keeping her vision from Zoey. She kept putting off, saying it wasn't the right time to tell her yet. Uh, so why would you get that vision, darling? Just for the sake of having your pretty baby-blue eyes bleed? *eyeroll*

And jeeesh, what Z did is really f*cked up, and as it was stressed several times during the book, that sort of anger was SO NOT like her. And yet blaming the Seer Stone (for the record: she didn't, someone else did but can't remember who) is too lame. I thought the blue ball of fire/energy/whatever wasn't really necessary, either, but I understand it has something to do with the "Old Magick from the Skye Island" stuff and will hopefully be better explained in the last book.

Another thing I was wondering is, how did the police know what happened was supernatural? I mean, it was raining, a lightning struck the trees, so they could say it was just Mother Nature's doing. It just doesn't make sense to me. Now I wonder how they're going to get Z out of prison. I think it will have something to do with a lot of pity party with her snot crying before they smuggle her out, or I don't know, go back in time, and change the story? LMAO I wouldn't doubt anything at this point.

And about time something was done about Dallas. Now why's Neferet still so hard to kill? I just hope she dies already (she's not the only one I wish that for, though >:D) -- please don't make this a Disney ending with all the bad guys turning good and everyone hugging in the end, ok?

So I was right, I ended up ranting. Big surprise.

Why.

* * *

I've finished this.. monstrosity. And.. I just don't know what to say? Because, those books? They don't change. They continue to suck so badly, nothing I could say hasn't been said before. (Most likely by me, too.)

There was one single improvement: No True Blood reference that messed up the timeline. Only problem? Instead we got a Django Unchained mention that did the job just as well.

Even worse, now not only Zoey refers to all her classmates and friends as "kids" and "the children", Stark, Stevie Ray and so on seem to have picked up the habit.

Annoying story. I'm glad there's only one left to go. This was like really bad fanfiction, to be honest.

Okay so you all know what. I dont want to read all your complaining about how the series just needs to end. It is a great series with a greaat plot and it takes a great author to keep a series with this much action going for this many books. This was the series that got me into reading. And I am still a fan to this day. P.C. Cast is an amazing writer and even if you havent been a fan of the rest of the series, dont trash the book beforeit even comes out. Thats just tude and makes you all seem extremelty self centered and makes it obvious 1y1ou have nothing better to do with your time than trash people and books you havent even sampled yet.

Can't wait until this book comes out! Hidden was amazing. I don't get why people hate on this series so much, but I love it, myself. I cannot wait. Was there anyone else doing some serious what-the-hell-ing throughout Hidden, when it came to Erin and Nicole and not to mention when Neferet looked in the mirror. Neferet's Curse is going to be fascinating.

Everyone else has abandoned ship. Yet here I am.

2.5 stars. I don't even have an "in my defense" argument. I know these books suck hard for so many reasons - whether it's the lame speak, the immature behavior, the characters who fail to use their brains, or horrific stereotypes being reinforced..

BUT I still think the adventures are fun. This is why I keep reading.

AND the writing has mellowed out quite a bit. The "eye roll to page count" ratio has dropped significantly over the past couple of books.

AND something I've wanted to happen since the beginning happened. Maybe the bus didn't drive off the cliff, but at least one character got smacked down, and I make no apologies for being happy about it.

It's no surprise that my least favorite scenes were with Zoey and Stark (I really can't stand them). It's also no surprise that my favorite scenes were ones featuring Rephaim and Kalona.

Ah, Kalona. I would do bad, bad things to you.

"Impressive," Kalona said dryly. "But if you don't stop sparkling and shouting, your warning will be witnessed by all of midtown Tulsa."

Random Notes :

I didn't mind the crude speak in this book in certain parts, but also hated it in others. I'm constantly around teenage boys, and know they say a lot of things that their mommies would be shocked to hear. It's just the nature of the beast.

~ The scene with the kids outside of the HoN looking for "hot vampyre pussy" actually made me laugh.

~ The exact same language when coming from an angry Dallas made me cringe because it was so disrespectful and seemingly used to drive a point home through shock value, which I didn't like.

I still don't like it that Zoey has so much influence, when she can't figure out her own issues. If vampires ever end up existing, I hope the people in power are the ones who know a little bit more about life than this chick.

At least the series is almost done. I've made it this far - might as well finish it out.

My Thoughts:

✦ This didn't read like a next to last book. I really was thinking things would start wrapping up!

✦ "Gihugic" - really?

✦ More deaths...why am I surprised? And the part with Dallas? Shocking!

✦ Aurox drunk was just a little bit funny.

description

✦ To be fair, I do enjoy the characters...I just wish things would move along. It just seems like the same ol', same ol' and nothing is progressing. Bad guys are NEVER defeated and Zoey cannot be with just ONE guy.

✦ I'm dying to know how this will end!!

I really want the continuation. I have read this series twice because I stopped somewhere on book 8 for too long and when I decided to come back to it I had to refresh my memory. The series is not repetitive. And is amazingly creative although I wish the goddess would intervene more. Nevertheless those who are complaining obviously don't like the series enough and/or are lazy readers. I wish almost all book series lasted this long.

I don't ever want this series to end! I don't understand why everyone wants this to be the last book. This is such a great series, cute characters, love and mystery and mythology all wrapped into one. Of course I'm excited to see how it ends, but I don't want that to happen for a LONG time.

Ok so I'm one of those readers that love to read series novels, and I have many..i stopped reading for a while even though the next book of whatever series i have have been already out, but the first one i went to buy when I decided to read again was the house of night because it was my all-time favorite and i love the story itself that i get anxious to have the next book as soon as I'm finished reading the current one (i know I'm not the only one ;)) The authors allow the series to grow along with the characters which I liked a lot because it shows different personalities as they grow up and mature and at the same time the fictionality of the events in the plot is not as extreme as in the other series sets i have and despite the whole vampyre/goddesses/angels thing, every person can relate to any of the characters' personalities and the interaction between them. Bottom line is..the series is awesome and even though I would love to know how the ending is, I don't want it to end and Im SOOO excited for book 11 "revealed" and who the new character on the book poster is going to be :D

I kind of lost my love for the series around Tempted, but I actually enjoyed the last one.
I just hope that Zoey realizes how great she and Stark are together, and won't ruin it because of Aurox/Heath. Honestly, I never really liked Heath all that much, and I feel like if Zoey and Stark don't end up together, I will have continued the series for nothing. Because that's honestly my only reason for continuing... Well, that and Damien, because I love him :D
But everyone else is saying that this series is too long, and that's not true. The Morganville Vampires series is 15 books long, and I don't want it to end... The stories and the characters are too good. So don't say that there are too many books, because that isn't really the reason. The reason is that there are too many books that aren't as good as the others, in my opinion.

When I started reading this series, I didn't want it to end. Never. Now I think it's okay and I'm happy that there are two more books about Zoey and her friends. I will miss them and I hope you find a good end where you think: "Ok. I think this is an ending and I can go on with my real life." without hanging on the story and crying that it's over. Your fans trust in your talent! I am sure you will find a good ending, so everyone is happy. :)

Shut the *$%& up.

Cast is. Maar een liefhebber worden van deze serie? NOOIT.

This book exceeded my expectations. Yes, it was worse than I expected it to be! From the prologue I was annoyed, because the prologue was the epilogue of Hidden, with a bit more detail and a part tacked onto the end. The book itself was badly written, badly executed, and just plain bad unfortunately. There was no plot to the book, the dialogue was horrible, the character development was non existant. I am tired of Zoey always been stuck in a love triangle, which serves no point at all.

I really enjoyed this series when it began, but to me it feels like they have tried to stretch the series to make it longer than it was originally meant to be. For instance, the series could have done without most of this book. It, like the 3 books before it, feels like a filler. I wish I could stop reading the series, but with one book left, it is too late.
I am extremely disappointed in this book and the series as a whole.

“Daughter, that’s life: messy, confusing, heartbreaking, but wonderful. All any of us can do is to try to be our best, and to learn from our mistakes, as well as our victories.”

Lots of horrible and wonderful things happen in this book as well.
But that's the everyday life in Tulsa and the House of Night these days...

There is an open house at the beginning of the book. Everything is fine until Neferet appears and a another major character dies.

The deaths do not stop there. An important human is also killed and this will bring chaos in the city of Tulsa. Nobody knows the killer and the House of Night is blamed.

And the deaths do not stop there....Another main character is executed, a couple of humans die and there is a massacre in the end.

As I said in the beginning, that's the everyday life in Tulsa and the House of Night these days.
One book before the end of the series and nothing is settled.

The least I ask for is a happy end in every installment. If I can't get entertaining action, interesting characters or decent immoral reflections

description

How many times was the evil influence plot used (worse, the "she was framed"?)? The love triangle, the possessive asshole, the nemesis that never dies, I feel like crossing my fingers for the evil twin or amnesia... Hey, this could actually work

Redundant threesome boinking exhausts Zoey into partially traumatic blackout. Upon waking up she has no memories of the past 10 books and finally decides she doesn't have to deal with all the drama.

description

Neferet decides she needs a better hobby than cheat the good guys into winning and gets help.

description

Match made in the kitchen.
Honeymoon in Paris.
Yum.

After being ditched by Zoey, Stark and Aurox realize they actually like each other, make up and go to Africa on a humanitarian mission to spread the goddess' love.

description

They are never heard from again.

The others... live happily ever after... or something.
description

The end.

Option 2? Kill off Zoey, Neferet and two or three more, and let the last book be filled with Aprodite's snarky one-liners.

2 звезди Зоуи ми дойде прекалено голямо дразнещо мрънкало. 3-та е заради Неферет, която износи на гърба си цялата поредица

Please keep these amazing books coming, they are the Best books ever written, i absolutely adore the carectors and i just want the books to keep coming until the Day i die! I hate however that there is going to be made movies over the books, i Think it Will ruin the charm of the carectors and places a bit. Btw i can't stand neferet, please kill her already, i utterly hate her.

So many people complain that this series is waaay to long. But I bet if you asked them there would be a series they have read where they wishes it was longer. That there was more to the story, they probably have ideas in which the author could make it longer. P.C Cast and Kristin Cast have made a beautiful series that can open the eyes of many. They talk about a goddess not many think about and the very possibility of goddesses. They make us want to believe in magic, in something that is amazing. They show a world that is around us. You call Zoey a slut? How many of you have had more then one boyfriend because something went wrong? You probably slept with one or two of them. Do you call yourself a slut? No, your just trying to find someone special to you that will make you future brighter. Sure Zoey started young but so did many of us. Many people enjoy these books very much, if you don't no one is forcing you to read the books. Simply put the book down, turn around, walk away, find a book you do like and enjoy it.

2.5 stars.
I have seriously big issues with how Stark, Zoey, Kalona and Thanthos behaves. I really don't like it. At the moment i just like Rephaim, Aphrodite, Grandma Redbird, Shaunee and Shaylin. Some things and scenes were random and felt forced, a bit out of place. there is lot things we don't get answer to or it aren't mentioned again, like when Kalona could be in Stark's head and it wasn't mentioned again because he suddenly became nice.. And the whole grieving about Jack? and Damien dating? it was extremely short lived, and where is Erik now? I'm so tired of Nefret, she keeps coming back even though we are to believe she dies or are defeated more than once.
