About the author

Andy Griffiths is Australia’s most popular children’s writer. He is the author of over 20 books, including nonsense verse, short stories, comic novels and plays. Ik zag dit boek bij mijn oppaskinderen liggen en kreeg zin om het te lezen. Dit is echt een heel grappig boek. De tekeningen en de aantekeningen spelen daarin ook een rol. Ik mag van mijn oppaskinderen ook de Waanzinnige boomhut lezen. Ik ben daar erg benieuwd naar! Dit boek vond ik erg leuk.

I LOVE this book! I started reading when I was very young, and this is one of the first books that I truly fell in love with. I had gotten it from the library multiple, so I could read it over again. When I was about 8, I got my very own copy for my birthday!! It is still sitting on my bookshelf today!!

When I first saw What Body Part is That?, I assumed it was a fact-filled book about the human body with weird and interesting stories and random trivia. Boy was I wrong. While I was not entirely disappointed, this is one of the most bizarre books I have read in a while.

If you can picture a satirical look at the human body, written for 8-12 year old boys, you know what to expect with What Body Part is That?. With bizarre sketches, slightly twisted humor, and useless information, this book doesn’t easily fit into any category. The only facts in this book are “Fun Body Part Facts” such as “Shoulders are the body part most commonly mispronounced as ‘soldiers’” and “Gut-barging is a sport in which two overweight contestants try to barge each other off of a large mat using their big fat bellies.” This book isn’t exactly educational, but it is engaging as it describes every body part from freckles to tonsils, and lungs to scars. I don’t think that this book is for everyone, but it is entertaining enough to keep an upper-elementary boy reading for at least a couple of hours.

Review: By far one of the cutest nonsensical books ever written, "What Body Part is This?" is in a league by itself. I actually laughed out loud while reading it at some points until my sides hurt.

A genuine mix of .1% fact and 99.9% fiction this book is great for kids 8 and up. It's fun and silly and even gives a few interesting ideas on how to get rid of germs. For instance, did you know that if you mixed a teaspoon of gravel and whiskey and drank it down that it could cure a sore throat? Sure thing! Apparently, one of the author's grandfather's figured that one out. The germs get drunk off the whiskey and have a rock fight and kill each other! How ingenious is that?! That's only one example of the wonderful humor found in this book. I definitely recommend for middle grade readers.

Usual irreverent humor, locker room style bodily function jokes, and hilarious site gags and "find it" stuff in the illustrations from this Aussie author and illustrator duo. They do a good job of including all the body parts, private parts are handled discreetly - an all black page for the illustration! Griffiths and Denton rarely pass up an opportunity to include flatulence, its the topic of the last chapter, even though it is not technically a body part. Each chapter has a "fun body part fact" sidebar, some of which sound like they may be true, perhaps sparking a young reader to do some further research. My only complaint is that all chapters end with the line: "That's all you need to know about ___", a little tedious after 68 chapters. Third and fourth grade boys won't notice, they will be too busy laughing!

While this book is 99.9% fact-free, it is 100% silly fun! The duo of Andy Griffiths and Terry Denton have created a very funny anatomy book that will appeal especially to boys ages 8 and up. What really cracks me up about this book is that it is shelved in the non-fiction 611 section, with all the "real" researchy human anatomy books!

The definitions of the different body parts are tongue-in-cheek funny, and the illustrations are random and bizarre - there's a reoccurring moose for some reason! Do not read this book expecting to do any actual research, but I guarantee you will be entertained!

This was such a fun novel to read. It taught readers about different parts of the body in a fun way. It was a silly book with silly words and pictures. Although it was not very serious, it still did a good job covering information about different parts of the body. It contained fun facts that were not to into depth, but this would be a good book for children to read to learn about the body. It is a novel that will capture, and keep a child's attention. The fun word choice, and funny illustrations were amazing! It made the book so fun to read. The author/illustrator did a great job with the details they put into this novel.

This book allows you to learn a massive amount of facts about an incredibly varied array of body parts. I had to drop out of kindergarten for egging the White House, so I learned with this book. 5 years later, I had earned my fifth doctor's degree and I was said by Time Magazine to be "The Greatest Person In the History Of Every Person Ever". I am soon going to move to Mars and lead a massive therapy centre. Thank you Andy Griffiths!

The author did not lie when he stated this book had 100% fact free chapters! Well actually, each body part, except the private parts, are identified with a very brief, one line description. This is followed by humorous commentary about the body part, and of course there are illustrations. There is an index, but you would not use this book for serious research. However, boys, ages 8-12 will be rofl!

Ik vond het een grappig boekje en denk dat kinderen van een jaar of 10 hier super om kunnen lachen. De plaatjes zijn zo nu en dan ideaal voor biologieles, of een spreekbeurt. Maar leerzaam niet echt omdat er veel nonsens in staat. Maar was dit boek in mijn lessen biologie gebruik dan had ik het nog leuker gevonden, al was de leeraar dan ook veel bezig geweest met vertellen hoe het lichaam echt werkt.

It's a funny read, like Dave Barry for kids. This is something I would give to a middle-schooler or a medical/nursing student.

For parents checking out this book for their kids, genitalia are mentioned, but all that page says is "private parts are private". No pictures on that page, either.

I'm taking a chance with this book that I found while shopping for books for our library. Kids that love Captain Underpants and the Wimpy Kid series are going to love this book. However, upon first look I was thinking it was a humorous nonfiction descriptive book. After reading it, I would categorize it more as fiction or even humor. I loved the entry about "private parts". Well done!
