Coralie Bickford-Smith graduated from Reading University after studying Typography and Graphic Communication and currently works in-house at Penguin Books. Coralie's book covers have been recognised by the AIGA (NY) and D&AD (UK) and have featured in a numerous international magazines and newspapers including The New York Times, Vogue and The Guardian. Her work with Penguin Classics on the clothbound series attracted worldwide attention and harks back to the world of Victorian bindings and a golden age of book binding.

Amo los libros de Coralie, no solo son bellas sus ilustraciones, sino que los mensajes de sus historias, que pueden tener multiples significados.
Acá tenemos una bella historia de una perseverante ardilla que cada año esconde bellotas sin poder volver a encontrarlas, de forma no intencionada termina reforestando una parte del bosque que estaba deshabitada, creando más refugio y comida para los animales que son parte del ecosistema de este.
Como mensaje final, la ardilla descubre que todos cambiamos, incluso una bellota, y que con esos cambios podemos transformar realidades.

Ein kleines Eichhörnchen ist sehr vernünftig und als der Winter kommt, vergräbt es für den Frühling einige Nüsse. Doch dann kommt der Frühling und die Nuss ist verschwunden?? Im nächsten Jahr das gleiche, was geht da nur vor?



Ein wunderbares Buch über die schwierige Aufgabe, sich mit Änderungen anzufreunden und den steten Wandel der Natur zu akzeptieren. Wieder unglaublich niedlich gemalt - Fun Fact: Coralie hat als Vorlage für den Eichhörnchen-Schwanz den Schwanz ihrer Katze nachgezeichnet!

Antes de hablar del contenido del libro quiero hacer una mención especial a la pedazo de edición que se ha marcado el sello Nube de tinta.
Este libro viene en tapa dura texturizada, con un diseño precioso y un color naranja bastante llamativo. ¡Es una joya para cualquier estantería!

Y ahora sí, pasemos al contenido.
Lo que aquí tenemos es una breve historia con una ilustraciones impresionantes y un mensaje muy importante. Siguiendo el periplo de una pequeña ardilla que entierra sus bellotas en otoño con la esperanza de recuperarlas en primavera aprendemos que la vida está en constante cambio, que hay cosas incontrolables y que, a veces, tenemos que pararnos y prestar atención en lugar de dar por sentado lo que creemos que sabemos.

Este libro está recomendado a partir de 12 años, pero creo que incluso con un par menos podría disfrutarse perfectamente.

“The Squirrel and the Lost Treasure” is a delightful picture book with a meaningful story told through few words and the charming character of a squirrel. The illustrations are fantastic, and the cloth cover and color selections are wonderful. The book offers hope and challenges us to let go of materialistic and other attachments to move forward. It beautifully shows that everything in life is temporary and constantly changing. I loved the illustrations and the small details of nature. The changing seasons depicted through the illustrations were captivating. It’s a great book to look at any time, even if you’re not interested in the story.

una maravillosa historia para nuestros peques con unas ilustraciones delicadas, haciendo alusión a las estaciones del año.

Nos cuenta de una ardilla que cada año entierra bellotas para luego comerlas cuando llegue la primavera.
Pero luego del cruel invierno, no hay ninguna, las busca deforma desesperada, y nada.

Tras algunos años empieza a darse cuenta de la verdad.
No es que no estén es que simplemente han crecido, se han transformado en algo mucho más grande, y que está en todo su alrededor.

Una historia que deja la enseñanza de que acción tiene una consecuencia y de dejar ir para ver cómo las cosas mutan y no siempre serán iguales para nosotros.

Un libro interesante para enseñar a nuestros peques.

Gorgeous clothbound hardcover book (unsurprisingly, as the author is the designer of the covers for Penguin's clothbound classics series), even the endpapers are illustrated.

I adore the work of Coralie Bickford-Smith and this is another stunning release from her!

She makes the simplest of tales feel so magical, and there's a beautiful message behind the story too which adds to the enchantment I felt reading this story. It's a story about change and growth through the eyes of a squirrel.

And as for the artwork - just spectacular!! I want every page as a print on my wall! Every page is just a delight for the eyes and it's just a wonderful read for any age!!

Een mooie! Over een eekhoorn die blijft volharden om eikels te verstoppen, en ze tot zijn verbazing niet terugvindt in de lente. Toevallig gelezen in dezelfde week dat ik leerde dat eekhoorns vergeten waar ze >90% van hun wintervoorraad hebben verstopt. Was plezant dat we toevallig ook net een bibboek over een eekhoorn mee hadden.
Rustgevend en toch spannend, en het einde heerlijk wonderlijk.
Weinig tekst, sterk grafisch, met een beperkt aantal kleuren en hoge contrasten.

This is my favourite by Coralie Bickford-Smith, so far!

The squirrel is cute, the forest is gorgeous, thick and lush, and the story manages to be both simple and brilliantly clever at the same time.

It always amazes me how a tiny acorn can become a great, big oak - and this book captures that amazement and natural magic so very nicely.

From time to time I love to read children's books. They are beautifully illustrated most times and convey a heartwarming message not only meant for children. I love the hardcover clothbound cover. The paper feels soft and thick between the fingers, and the strong design and colors are totally adorable. I just love it!

Absolutely wonderful, most beautiful illustrations and carefully chosen text. The acorn illustration at the end is so intricate and wonderful and as for the cloth cover … you want to sit and admire it constantly.
I would give it six stars if I could!
