A howl in the distance. The biggest footprint you've ever seen. A blurry figure in the distance. These are the clues that lead us to believe there is something out there―Bigfoot.
Already a fan of the wildly successful FINDING BIGFOOT show on Animal Planet? (One of the top-performing shows in the network's history!) Stacked with information for your burning questions, this heavily illustrated work features a compelling narrative with commentary from the stars of the show, photographs and extras from the Animal Planet's archives, and so much more.
Skeptics will be given all the information they need to decide for themselves if they believe, and enthusiasts will revel in this essential Bigfoot book.
Over the course of nine seasons and 100 episodes, for intrepid individuals searched numerous locations to find evidence related to Bigfoot and become one of the top rated shows in the history of Animal Planet. Finding Bigfoot: Everything You Need to Know by Martha Brockenbrough is a tie-in book aimed at young children to provide information related to the subject of an undiscovered North American ape.
This book is geared towards younger readers and fans of the Animal Planet tv series of the same name with the aim to giving information on the mysterious upright walking ape that might be stalking the wilderness of North America. Investigating such questions as “Does Bigfoot Exist?” as well as investigating the evidence supporting that they do, not only in North America but around the world, but also looking into the various hoaxes and misidentifications that many skeptics bring up this book treats it’s target audience with respect and aims to promote critical thinking. For the readers that believe bigfoot exists there is a “how to” guide about bigfooting and how to collect possible evidence of the creature when found. And throughout are eyewitness accounts from the first four seasons of the show with comments from one of the Finding Bigfoot team members.
While roughly 140 pages, this is an oversized book filled with pictures and easy to read text size. Though intended for children, adults will find this informative as its for general audiences of both believers and skeptics. Brockenbrough’s prose is engaging towards a younger audience without being insulting while keeping adults reading as well. The introduction by Finding Bigfoot star Cliff Barackman, a former teacher, starts the book off right with telling how he came to accept the existence of Bigfoot after growing up as a kid enjoying learning about “monsters”.
Finding Bigfoot: Everything You Need to Know is an easy-to-read and informative look into the subject of an undiscovered North American ape whether you’re a child or a child at heart.
I've definitely watched quite a bit of Animal Planet's Finding Bigfoot show. So when I stumbled across this book, I eagerly grabbed it hoping to expand on some of the findings from the show or having the cast weigh in on their experiences. That was not what this was. This was just an overview on all things Big Foot. If you're more of a budding or a casual Squatcher you may find some of this interesting, but it wasn't anything ground-breaking; mostly recycled bits of knowledge. The pictures included are stills from the show or stock footage; so when they reference specific photos or videos you don't actually see them, so that was disappointing.
Also, a chapter in the middle is specifically focused on addressing children? It was odd and felt out of place amongst the rest. Not that anything was inappropriate for a younger audience it just used fairly advanced vocabulary if they intended this for a younger audience.
3.8 stars. Good overview of the history, myths, current theories, and recent developments in all things Bigfoot. The book is intended for younger readers. Includes a section on how to trick your parents into taking you camping in deep, secluded woods (e.g. tell them you are doing a nature study--emphasize "study.").
Absolutely ridiculous…but also ridiculously entertaining…
Finding Bigfoot: Everything You Need to Know by Martha Brockenbrough takes itself very seriously…and I have to respect that.
This is not an exhaustive big on Bigfoot culture and hunting, and I don’t think it tries to be.
However, the book does hikight a number of areas of Bigfoot lore…and it’s amusing information more than makes up for a premise that is inherently difficult to take seriously.
While the book almost exclusively focuses on North American Bigfoot, there it’s light coverage of other “species” (specially the yeti and abominable snowman) and an understand of how Bigfoot might have spread all over the world yet have such little physical evidence…aside from the “evidence” that people and cultures have encountered it.
Along with a list of notable Bigfoot “experts”, the best places in the United States and Canada to locate a Bigfoot (complete with percentages), and coverage of various “documented proo (i.e. shitty photographs), it also presents info for the skeptics including explanations for what might really be a Bigfoot, various Bigfoot hoaxes, and reasons they might not exist…
Of course if you want to dive into Bigfoot pop culture there’s also various recipes, books, movies, and websites for you to consume.
While it may not cover any one Bigfoot subject exhaustively…it gives enough detail on a myriad of topics that it’s a good start, especially for the amateur.
A fun book to read with lots of nice images. If you are a fan of the show, this is a good book to purchase for a little more bigfoot information. The only reason I did not give this book 5 stars was that half way through the book the writing style changed. It started out great, but then turn into something written for a middle school kid. Telling the reader to "ask their parents" and other further similar statements. in addition, the author provide strange recipes for food with silly bigfoot names. What started so well ended poorly.
This is an amazing book! Fully of scientific facts, evidence, photos, revealed hoaxes, and wonderful stories about sightings of Bigfoot. There is additional information included, such as more books about Bigfoot, websites, where to find more written articles, and more. It's up to the reader to decide - does Bigfoot really exist? (I think so.)
There is to much evidence not to believe! Foot casts, hair samples, Even one of Theodore Rosevelt friends was out trapping and he was killed by a Bigfoot, you can’t ignore it’s there
I'm a total die hard fan of the Animal Planet show Finding Bigfoot. I love watching Bobo, Matt, Cliff and the skeptical Ranae (although Bobo is my favorite). My kids (10, 5, and 3) love watching too.
We had taken the book on vacation with us at the beginning of September so we could read it together over the weekend but our plans were averted by my Father-in-Law who quickly latched onto the book and read it cover to cover in two days. So plans changed but when we were able to pry the book out of my Father-in-Law's hands the kids and I read the book together.
We were not disappointed at all in the book. It was a great "how to" start including what to look for in the wild, what kind of sounds to listen for, areas of interest, and what they may eat. There are even a few recipes that my ten-year-old has been BEGGING me to make so he can try to lure a 'squatch into our yard. It also has a lot of really interesting personal stories. Those personal stories alone make it worth the read! The whole book is interesting.
This book is geared more toward the tween and up ages. My ten-year-old reads above grade level and had a hard time at times with reading it but it was a good challenge for him! And obviously my Father-in-Law who's in his late 50's loved the book.
Mysterious animals and unexplained phenomena are a source of fascination for all ages, and Anima; Planet's Finding Bigfoot is sure to be a "hit". It is one of the most thorough nontechnical treatments to be offered in a long time. Ten chapters describe the evidence, the hunters, the sightings, and even the hoaxes. Lots of photos, and an index to refer back to your specific topic. The "Extras" chapter includes jokes, movies (Harry and the Hendersons) , a Q&A (Is it a boy or a girl?), plus books and websites for further reading.
Whether or not you believe in bigfoot, sasquatch, or yeti, this book is an interesting read. It attempts to give an unbiased look at what evidence is available to support or disprove the claim that such creatures do exist. There are photographs, personal testimonials, and charts to augment the text. The 4 people from the show of the same name, featured on Animal Planet, have also contributed to this book. It concludes with tips for bigfoot hunters as well as lots of additional resources for additional information.
This book matches with the show on Animal Planet but students wouldn't have needed to watch the show. At times the information was redundant and there were a lot of pages. I can see my kids checking it out and looking at pictures and skimming. Not sure many will read the whole thing. It was a good text though and very informative.
People of all ages love reading about Big Foot. Animal Planet investigates in this non-fiction book full of citings, photographs, and other scientific evidence. Why not?!? This is a great addition to a collection.
Great book for middle schoolers to learn facts, fiction, mystery, myth, history, and debates surrounding Bigfoot. Good blend of research, humor, and engaging text features. Super way to teach informational reading & research writing skills using a fun topic.
