Rupa Sriyani Ekanayake started her writing career in 1999 by writing "Sausiri Sapiri Saudia” based on her experiences in Saudi Arabia where she accompanied her husband who was on a diplomatic posting, and served as a teacher.
In the year 2000, she wrote five children's books based on Jathaka stories ( the stories of Lord Buddah's previous births). The five books were: "Miulu Nuwara Pandiwaru" ; "Katusu Kare Raththaran", "Pinguththara; Kalana Mithuru" and "Aggala Liyamana". Her next book, "Dehshanuragaya" ( Patriotism) , published in 2002 , was a collection of short stories based mainly on her experiences as an officer of the Sri Lanka Administrative Service. She wrote two novels , Vijayai Kuweni and Senkadagala Maha Biso, in 2003 and 2005, respectively , both were based on the pathetic lives of two queens of Sri Lanka who had suffered for merely being heirs to the throne of the country. Her novel, "Tharu Bambasara" which was written in 2006, was nominated for the "Swarna Pusthaka Sammana" awarded by the Sri Lanka Book Publishers Association, annually.Rupa Sriyani Ekanayake launched her latest novel, Dutmi Nethin Kasup Nirind , in 2009, which depicts the aesthetic qualities of the life of King Kasyapa who built one of the nation's main heritages , Sigiriya, the lion rock.

සමාජයේ විවිධ ස්ථර වලට අයත් පුද්ගලයන්ගේ ජීවිතවල නිස්සාර බව විස්තර කෙරෙනා නවකතාවකි.
පණ්ඩුල සමරදිවාකර ධනවත් දෙමාපියන් අහිමි අභාධිත රදලයෙකි. ඇවැස්ස නැනා වන සරලා පණ්ඩුලගේ ළමා කාලයේ සිටම එකම මිතුරිය වූවය. වත් පොහොසත් කමින් අඩුවූ බැවින් සරලා සහ ඇගේ දෙමාපියන් පණ්ඩුල ගේ අනසකට ගරුකලහ.
තමාගේ අබාධිත කම හේතුවෙන් සාර්ථක පවුල් ජිවිතයක් ලබාගත නොහැකි වේ යයි පණ්ඩුල සිතුවේය. එය සරලාට අවභෝධ කරවීමට G H ලෝරන්ස්ගේ ලේඩි චැටලිස් ලවර් පොත

තරඟකාරී මද්යම පාන්තික නාගරික ජිවිතයක් ගතකරන සහ නය බරින් පිරුන සුමිත්තගේ ආකල්ප සරලාට ගැලපුනේ නැත. ඔහු සරලාට හොරෙන් පණ්ඩුල ගෙන් මුදල් උපකාර ලබාගැනීමට වුවද පසුබට වුයේ නැත. ඔවුන්ගේ විවාහ ජීවිතය සාර්ථක වුයේ නැත.

YouTube suggested a teledrama called සිටුවර පුවත (Situwara Puwatha), and I felt the name was familiar. I watched a few episodes and found the teledrama too naive for my liking. However, I had a strange feeling this could be yet another book destroyed by a teledrama director. Therefore, I decided to read the book.
Comparing the book to its teledrama adaptation reinforced my belief that books often capture more depth. The teledrama overcomplicates the story with unnecessary characters and a restructured narrative, leaving me bored. However, the book, which I finished in under four hours, was more focused and thought-provoking, despite occasionally bogging down with overly long, boring descriptions that I skimmed through.
The story of Pandula and Sarala explores how indecision can destroy lives. Their hesitation to fully commit to marriage leads to unfulfilled lives, a theme that feels timeless and relatable. The characters’ struggles were authentic, and the author captured their internal conflicts with quiet intensity, making the story linger in my mind.
I also found the portrayal of noblemen and their servants compelling. Their loyalty, contrasted with the pain caused by ingratitude, offered a touching glimpse into a bygone era. While the overly detailed passages sometimes slowed the book, it still delivered a nuanced and engaging experience. I’d recommend skipping the adaptation and diving into the original work.

Story based on true love which we will only find in literature.
