Annie Fisher is ready to start a new school year as the new teacher of Peace Landing. Her mother has expressed a desire to step down so she can focus on life at home. Annie was baptized into the Peace Landing community church over the summer, making her a full member of the community. She continues to visit with Mark Stoltzfus, who has been courting her.
However, there is something going on behind the scenes that threatens their growing relationship. Will Annie be able to deal with the problem and continue or will it destroy everything that she's built for herself?
Rachel was born and raised in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. Being part of the Mennonite community, she started writing Amish romance fiction as a way of looking at the Amish community. She wanted to present a fair and honest representation of a love that is both romantic and sweet. Her books about Jacob Marshall, "A Home for Jacob series," is the most popular of her books.
That is the one word that I can use to describe Hannah Lapp. After reading so many Amish books, I shouldn't be surprised by their behavior, but I am. This was an awesome book. Well developed characters and a great plot.
Annie Fisher's first year of teaching is a challenge because of the jealousy of Hannah Lapp. With the understanding of her community and family problems were worked out. Interesting story.
I enjoyed this story about Annie and plan to read the next book in this series. Rachel Stoltzfus makes her characters believable. I do so enjoy reading books about the Amish and this author is one I enjoy reading.
Simple Pleasures starts with the conflict of another young woman who thinks she has been treated unfairly. The main character is the new schoolteacher, Annie and the other woman wants the job. The antagonist continues to cause problems for the new teacher and in the end what happens to her is left in the air. Annie finds her happy ever after ending but the story felt unfinished, as the conflict was not totally resolved. Maybe another story will accomplish an ending for the Hannah in the future???
Simple Pleasures is the first book in a series of three books. It was a nice Amish story with a very good storyline. The book needed a little editing - one paragraph was repeated; the first time it didn’t make sense where it was located. Several times a word was missing or a word was repeated.
A decent cautionary tale of the effects of gossip and slander. The romance part of the book felt tagged on to the end of what would otherwise be a morality story. Still enjoyable quick read.
These wonderful stories could easily earn five stars with some editing. While I don't usually give major deductions for editing problems if the story is good, this has too many editing problems to ignore. The stories were very enjoyable with great plots.
