This in-universe book explores the monsters, weapons and potions in Grimm with detailed pictures and descriptions. The book is Aunt Marie's recording of the supernatural creatures she and her fellow Grimms have to defeat!
Inspired by the classic Grimm Brothers' fairy tales, Grimm is a cop-drama with a twist. A detective discovers he has the ability to see supernatural beings, including a reformed 'Big Bad Wolf' and the witch-like Hexebiester, along with many others.

Look, I'm not a TV fan...at all. However if I ever loved a TV show it would (probably) have been Grimm. Grimm was on for 6 (really 5.5) seasons when NBC showed the same wisdom the allowed them to cancel Star Trek (possibly the biggest money spinner in 2 centuries [so far]) after 3 seasons.
If you watched Grimm you know that Aunt Marie shows up in episode 1 towing a camper-trailer which becomes almost a character in it's own right. The trailer contained weapons, relics, maps, documents, needed poisons, herbs etc.,etc.,etc. Among all these amazing artifacts were SOME OF the Grimm Books. This book (while not actually a novel) goes into that part of Grimm. It's sort of a walk through one of the books (or possibly a sampling of the books) in said trailer. For "Grimm-o-files" this is a way to wander back into that world (you know between re-re-re-rewatching the DVD or digital recordings of the programs.)
If on the other hand you did not/have not watched the series Grimm, stop whatever you are doing and go...no go right now...and buy, download or watch (on Prime or where ever you can find it) the series.
I've been a big fan of 'Grimm' since it first started a few years ago. When I saw this book I just knew that I had to have it. I've always thought that Aunt Marie's books looked interesting and wanted to have a look at them. I would have given this book five stars if it weren't for some of the text. It was in a different language and some of it was hard to read because of the way it is written. Other than that I highly recommend this book if your a fan of the show. The book is filled with illustrations and information about the creatures that feature throughout the show. I thought the illustrations were very good and I only wish that I could draw as good. I would say if you have never seen Grimm that you should watch it first before reading this book. It would be difficult to understand it if you haven't watched the show.
For fans of the tv show, this book is a way to jump right into the world of Grimm. Experience what it's like whenever Nick encounters new Wesen, and consult the books of lore given to him by his Aunt Marie. Although this volume is only a mere 144 pages rather than a tome, and only covers a portion of Wesen, and a few on weapons and other miscellaneous entries, it includes some of the same ones featured verbatim on the show. I also liked the additional photos and bloodstains on the pages. Since the world of Grimm has grown, a future volume should update the material as well as address the one weakness of this book: the cursive font at times was difficult to read--although it added to the experience of the show--and detracted from my enjoyment. Nonetheless, this book is a fun read for Grimm fans.
Cool for fans of the show, even though it is overproduced as hell. All the weird items that are photoshopped into the pages look so out of place and make the book feel inauthentic. It feels corny. It's supposed to feel like a bestiary, but sometimes it feels more like a product, like some cash crab crafted by the show's producers. Since this was also published so early in the show's runtime, it doesn't include nearly all of the Wesen seen throughout the series. It would be nice to see a more complete version of this.
Anyone who has watched "Grimm" since the beginning, knows how important Aunt Marie's trailer is to Portland, Oregon homicide detective Nick Burkhardt. When he first learned he was a Grimm, a special human with the ability to see Wesen and the responsibility to keep them in check, Nick visited Aunt Marie's trailer often. He would go there to look through her Book of Lore. Now fans of the weekly NBC drama can own their very own copy of "Aunt Marie's Book of Lore."
Who can forget the terrifying La Llorona, the woman who killed her male victims because she was a Spinnetod or the Murcielago who killed her victims with her high-pitched bat screech? And don't forget the Daemonfeuer, the Siegebarste and the Coyotl. More than 25 Wesen are included in this book, as well as entries about Grimm weapons, diseases that Wesen are susceptible to and symbols that play an important role in the history of the relationship between Grimm and Wesen.
I received a review copy of this book from Titan Books.
I love Aunt Marie's Book of Lore from the television series Grimm. It brings the wesen to life because you can look through it as the story unfolds on your television screen. What I love the most is that this book really looks like it was all hand written and hand drawn, just like a witches Book of Shadows.
As a devout fan of the TV show Grimm, I can honestly tell you this is the one companion book you need if you’re a fan of the show as I am.. Grimms have been profiling Wesen for years and these ancient books get handed down from generation to generation and in this show have wound up in a trailer in Portland, Oregon.. This book captures the very pages Nick Burkhardt; The Grimm, reads when he is trying to figure out a wesen related case he can’t solve. It’s as though you are reading exactly what he is reading - various entries and sketches made by Grimms over the years however we are pleasantly gifted with photos and images of the show along side these sketches. Having recently just rewatched (aka binged) the Grimm series again - this was a perfect way to end the re-binge. Highly recommended to fans of the show - it really is a must have collectable!
A really great addition to the series. A great replica of all the Grimm pages shown in the series. I think what would have made this amazing is if they had gone for the full paper replica removables of the notes/maps and photos. Also if the front of the book did not have the tv screen characters on this would have been 5 stars. But it is more than I have seen produced than other fandoms except for HP so kudos for that.
This is really well done in terms of being realistic, I wish they’d splurged a bit and included inserts, had a family tree to show us who the Grimms were so I could identify their handwriting, or more notes to make the writing more legible, some of it is on background that is too dark or just illegible scribbles. Otherwise it is a great read for someone looking into a guide of the creatures and to feel more inserted into the show.
It is completely a collector's item. Anyone who loves the series will just love this book of lore. Just as shown in the show, it is a replica of that book, only it is not that voluminous and neither one can expect the pages to be aged. Other than that, a book worth having in your shelves if you are a die-hard fan of the show. Very interesting read!
I like how they have a book to help with the monsters. But I hate that they don't show all the monsters. In the table of context they have every wesen known listed, but if they're crossed off they're not in the book. Then I know they're trying to make it seem like a real journal but it's too realistic....to the point you can't read the handwriting. Clever idea, poor execution
Cute tie in to the Grimm TV series using actual images from the books in the show. The heavy use of dark “blood stains” makes some of the text almost illegible as does some pretty dire hand writing. Great idea, but not very well executed in my view.
if you haven’t watched this tv show GO WATCH IT! seriously. it’s an amazing show! i was sad this show ended but i would rank the show finale in my top 5 favorites. one of the BEST i have EVER watched.
would recommend reading this book after (or while) watching the show.
4.5 Wessen Stars downgraded to 4 stars, the book should have contained at least twice the amount of included subject matter! Great fun for us GRIMM fans but no where near comprehensive.
This is a great book if you are a fan of the series, it is set up like the book that is used in the show, the same style, even some pages ( which I have seen in the early season 1 episodes of the show ) are in a foreign language, for that extra authenticity. It covers a lot of the creatures in the show, its got some really good artwork, quite violent in parts, just like the series, all in a nice, soft backed book. The only slight gripe I have with this, is that it should have been a hard-backed book, like the one in the series, but that would have made it more expensive to buy. Personally, I would have paid the extra few quid for that, but maybe they will do that with the next one, hopefully so. Worth a look if you are a fan of the show......
This book is great for 'Grimm' fans. The entries are done in a very nice aged look (plus blood stains etc), in a variety of languages, drawing styles and handwritings (and many of the handwritings are not fonts but actual writing, which adds to the atmosphere). The German parts vary between really good translations and very amusing gibberish. I can't judge how well the other languages are done, but I found the mistakes more funny than annoying. Don't worry, nearly everything has English translations. Toward the end, some entries are fairy tales, which worked for 'Blutbad', but for some of the others the stories seem to be chosen at random. All in all: Nice addition to the show.
I really love this book. I'm giving it 5 stars even though some of it is about impossible to read, mainly some of the "hand-written" English stuff at the end. It's mostly written in another language, mainly German, but there are English translations throughout. Also some of the pages have come loose even though I was very careful and this is my first reading and it was a new book. It only covers through episode 2. I love the book and I'm happy I bought it. I broke it apart, and put the pages in a binder after punching holes in the pages. I also LOVE the Grimm show and if you love the show you should get this book!
An awesome addition to series lore with fantastic drawings and fun add ins. My only beef with this book is that a large chunk of this is hard to read because it is done in hand writing and in foreign languages. There is translation were needed but it still was a struggle at points. This is a book for Grimm fans only, non fans won't understand what is being talked about unless they know something about the show.
