...picking up where Her Two Billionaires left off...
WHEN IS A LIE REALLY A LIE?
Laura flees after an amazing encounter with Dylan and Mike, a threesome lovemaking experience that sets her senses on fire and her heart ablaze. But hopes are quickly extinguished when reality settles in and she feels duped. Had they set her up just to get her in bed? Was she the butt of some elaborate sexual joke? Running for the safety of her best friend, Josie, she pours her heart out and learns that Josie has a few secrets of her own involving threesomes...
COMING CLEAN IS HARDER THAN IT SEEMS
After Laura leaves in a panic, Mike and Dylan must wrestle with their past, to come to terms with how it may jeopardize their future with her. A chance run-in with Laura and her friend Josie at a legendary Boston diner gives them renewed hope that they have a shot with Laura. When she accepts their offer for dinner - and only dinner - the guys see that being normal and comfortable and fun is the best remedy for their past transgressions, and they're determined to win her back, one Italian meatball and homemade tiramisu bite at a time.
BUT FEAR MAKES EVERYONE KEEP SECRETS
Laura lays it on the line: tell her any more secrets they might have. They just can't, though - hiding their billionaire status, they decide it's too much, too soon, with Dylan taking the lead as Mike feels they should tell the truth sooner than later. Deferring to Dylan, he keeps his mouth shut. The trio move on, and a night at Laura's house gives her the closure she needs to trust them again, a no-holds-barred lovemaking session that seals the deal and heals her wounds.
Until a morning news show reveals that Dylan, Boston's hottest eligible bachelor, is actually a billionaire. And so is Mike. Standing in the office lobby, gawking at the television as it spewed unbearable secrets, Laura is agog and sprints to the safety of Josie. Shutting Mike and Dylan out for good, she licks her newly-opened wounds and prepares for a life without them.
Until a positive pregnancy test changes everything.
And this time, Laura's the one keeping secrets...until a dangerous fire in her apartment leads to her rescue by Dylan, who learns the truth in a life-or-death blaze that makes everything more complicated, because...
It's always complicated.
Her Two Billionaires and a Baby is the 67,000-word final episode in a four-novella arc (though this one's novel length!) that brings closure to the very unconventional, loving relationship between curvy Laura, hot firefighter Dylan, and calm, mellow Mike.
New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Julia Kent writes romantic comedy with an edge. Since 2013, she has sold more than 2 million books, with 5 New York Times bestsellers and more than 21 appearances on the USA Today bestseller list. Her books have been translated into French, German, and Italian, with more titles releasing in the future.
From billionaires to BBWs to new adult rock stars, Julia finds a sensual, goofy joy in every contemporary romance she writes. Unlike Shannon from Shopping for a Billionaire, she did not meet her husband after dropping her phone in a men's room toilet (and he isn't a billionaire in a rom com).
She also writes romantic suspense as Meli Raine, sexy shifter romances as DJ Jennings, billionaire shifters as half of the author team Diana Seere, and co-authors with Elisa Reed.
She lives in New England with her husband and three children in a household where she is the only person with the gene required to change empty toilet paper rolls.
This review is for the entire two billionaires series and covers the following books: Her First Billionaire Her Second Billionaire Her Two Billionaires Her Two Billionaires and a Baby
First, a rant. I've found myself getting really irritated by authors that release a "book series" that is really chapters of a longer novel. I feel that it is a cynical way to exploit readers into paying more for their work than it's worth and in this case it's no exception. I understand that authors have to make money but really?
Anyway, enough of the ranting and onto the review.
I struggled with this series, I really did. The whole thing read like a bad movie script and I regretted spending my time (and money) on it. I didn't connect with any of the characters and thought the whole premise was ludicrous.
The only reason it's not a 1 star is that I've had wine and I'm feeling generous.
What got to me the most, were the random one word sentences to describe feelings or what the character was doing/thinking; "sigh", "jolt", "glare" and "smirk" are just an example what the author has in store for you if you read this book. Instead of spelling it out, the author uses single words. "Glare" instead of "she glared at him" etc.
The characters are very one-dimensional. There just is no connecting to them. There was potential in the first part of this "series" but that quickly disappeared.
A huge part of the problem for this billionaire story is that the writing is a mess. It's very inconsistent. The writing itself would have benefited hugely from having a proper editor going through the script. Another huge part of the problem for this story is the constant reference to 5000 Shades Of Crap. I'm sorry, dear author, but that alone makes me dislike your writing that much more.
Said constant reference also made my thoughts go in another direction. It makes it smell a little too much of rewritten fan fiction. Trust me, that is not a good thing! The characters had too much in common with Bella/Ana/Edward/Sebastian etc. It just makes me think this is either a rewritten Twilight fan fiction, or more likely, a rewritten 5000 Shades Of Crap fan fiction. Just because Erica James did it, doesn't mean everyone else should.
That being said, there was way too much drama over nothing in this story (all parts included). Laura was jumping to conclusions all the bloody time, and there was one thing she did the best; running away when going got tough.
I'll leave this review with this sentence, that pretty much sums up the whole 4 part story: Blah blah woof woof, they're doing a shitload of barking over something that has no bite.
I contemplated giving this one two stars, but in the end I decided it was deserving of three. When compared to the rest of the series, this was a surprisingly strong book.
Despite my better judgment, I read the four books despite having hated the first in the series. As I’m not one to turn down free books on Amazon, I decided I would suffer it. The more I worked through the series, the more I enjoyed it. They’re far from being brilliant books, but I was pulled into the story. If nothing else, I wanted to know how things ended.
In all honesty, we know what to expect due to the title. Nevertheless, it was fun to read through and see things played out. I really did find myself surprisingly pleased by the ending. I doubt I will go on to read the follow up stories – still, I’m happy enough with this ending.
This is a review for the following - Her first Billionaire - Her Second Billionaire - Her Two Billionaire's - Her Two Billionaire's and Baby
They were all really short I had all four read in about 2 hours. Laura is a plus size woman looking for a man or two that will look past her size to the woman underneath. Laura and her best friend Josie post an ad on a online dating service and within in minutes she has a reply from Dylan. A hot fireman looking for someone that might be interested in meeting someone and also possibly a permanent ménage. They arrange to have dinner and hit it off and sparks fly and she ends up sleeping with him. When she wakes in the night she sees all these pictures of Dylan with this other woman and assumes the worst and takes off. That ends book one.
Book two is the same thing only this time she meet Mike agrees to go out they have a great first date and basically she sleeps with him too.
Book three & four is where she finds out that they know each other and that they had been involved in a relationship with another woman Jill. Jill has died and the guys miss her a lot but they are really falling for Laura, they mess up and Laura stops seeing them again. They hadn't told her that they were billionaire's because Jill had left them all her money. They didn't know that Jill had money and were shocked when they found out she had made them her heirs and hadn't really told anyone what happen. The break up with Laura really messes up their friendship and they all stop talking. Laura then find out that she is pregnant, she doesn't tell them even though Josie pushes her to but she keeps putting it off. There is a fire in her apartment complex and Dylan who is working as a volunteer fireman after resigning his job when they found out about his money knows that it is her apartment complex. He races over and saves her, he and Mike find out that she is pregnant and they argue and make up and that's the end. It was okay, not great not bad. The writing was good and the over all story was good, but this whole thing with breaking things into chapters and putting it out as a book it getting stupid (IMO). When you put all 4 together you get around two hundred pages ebook.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
I hate serial romances. I wish they would just write a book or novella and publish it all at once. It's like you have to buy a 1/4 of the book at once. That said. This was a really good read and thank goodness I didn't start until all the books were out. I would have been upset if i had to wait for the next part. I hope the spinoff is a book not another serial.
Don’ get me wrong, we get some AWESOME ménage scenes that Julia Kent is known for and some great laughs, but it’s safe to say that Laura finds out about Dylan and Mike being Billionaires…. And it’s not from them! It’s from the news…
It goes bad… REALLY REALLY bad!
Laura stops speaking to Mike and Dylan, telling them to leave her alone FOREVER and hole’s up at Josie’s.
Mike and Dylan get into a fistfight that ruins there friendship. Mike moves out. Dylan is practically fired from being a fire-fighter as he is just holding up someone else’s job who really needs to work when he doesn’t.
In the space of a few chapters they have gone from being a tight little ménage group to none of them talking.
Laura told them from the start that they had to be honest with her. When she found out that Mike and Dylan knew each other she forgave them. As long as there was nothing else they weren’t telling her. They didn’t tell her they are Billionaire’s.. and when she found out she ran…
Now she’s not being honest with them… and doesn’t know how to be… One of them is going to be a Father…
Is she going to be that much of a hypocrite Will she forgive their lies and deceit?
Well of course she will! After all…
WHY READ IF THERE IS NO HEA!!! Pfft..
Speaking of HEA, we heard about Josie in Random Acts of Crazy and this BBW series, so she has to get her own book right? She sure does!
It mentions at the end of this book that Josie’s will be released in April.. After looking everywhere for it. I emailed Julia who told me Ménage Match hasn't been released yet -- that is Josie's book, which is coming in June. It is now called It's Complicated and has Laura's birth, a heavy dose of Darla, plenty about the new business, hot doctor Alex Derjian (Josie's love interest), and loads more in it. It is a huge book (400+ pages) and comes out at the end of June. So I am super excited about it!
I really enjoy Julia’s writing style! The Guys are hot, the girls aren’t skinny little bimbo’s(Remember Laura is plus size!), are usually hilarious with some great one liners. The sex scenes are smoking! And although this is a Menage series, the guys don’t touch.. Just thought I’d throw that out there for my M/M friends. I can’t wait to get my hands on her other work
Oh, Laura, you are so very STUPID. Let me count the ways from book one to here... 1.) Sex on a first date...one met on the internet yet you head to his home and have sex. Are you crazy? 2.) Above said sex was unprotected. Although you have a fleeting brain cell to the lack of having a condom. 3.) The only other insight you had to above sex is something like, Oh, I missed a pill. One won’t matter, right? WRONG! How young and ill informed are you? 4.) Didn’t give first guy a chance to explain. Again, how old are you?!?!?! 5.) Sex again with yet a different guy UNPROTECTED. In fact, condoms aren’t mentioned again. Dummy 6.) Throughout this book you are pig headed and refuse to listen before reacting. Just plain narcissistic. 7.) The boys not telling you they were billionaires is a big deal, why? It’s their finances. You hardly know them. Be pissed if you were finding out a day before your wedding maybe.
I think I could go on and on and on but I’m bored with this.
This book (and the previous ones in the series) are filled with drama for drama’s sake... aka “Fake drama”
I tried to hang in there but this series is awful. Thought Laura would mature and yet, nope. Dylan isn’t much better. In fact, from book one through this one, my opinion of him deteriorated greatly. As for Mike, not much better.
This thing about not knowing who is the father of the baby just drives me crazy, especially in contemporary romance novels where it's just harder for me to believe that people will keep their child's parentage a secret even when knowledge about the biological parents is available, and there isn't any scandal involved. If you aren't concerned about heritage then, at the very least, knowing one's parentage for medical reasons is important. If one of the fathers takes the baby to the doctor and has to complete a questionnaire about her medical history, he'll be totally stumped. It's not like each father couldn't have a child with the mother. Whoever isn't the biological father this time could be the biological father of the next baby. I just don't get why this has to be so difficult. I feel like, for a contemporary romance, this should really be a cut and dry issue. This was an issue that also annoyed me in the Colter's Woman series, but at least in that plot, the husbands were brothers, so they shared a family medical history and familial heritage.
Maybe I'm making a mountain out of a molehill, but I can't pretend like such plot twists don't affect my enjoyment of the book, because they absolutely do!
4.5 stars!! This series is actually really good!! After Laura's failed relationship she decides it's finally time to get back into dating by hitting an online site .... Dylan and Matt have both had a 10 year relationship with Jill but she died so after a while Dylan decides to get them on a dating site to find the right woman to complete them ..... the story is quite good and totally m/f/m!!!
I'd given this more stars but its way too short! I think all four books could have been one book. i spent more on the three i had to purchase than I'd usually spend. Loved the characters and story
Book 1: 3 stars I purchased on KU a copy of the steamy multibook complete novel Her Billionaire which is divided into the smaller novellas Her First Billionaire, Her Second Billionaire, Her Two Billionaires, and Her Two Billionaires and a Baby by Julie Kent and this review was given freely. Not my usual fare as this is ultimately a highly descriptive menage romance with one steamy scene after another but the story is interesting, easy flowing and told in a flirty over the top way and has closely linked characters. Curvy 29 year old financial analyst Laura Michaels laments her single life and the shallowness of men until her friend Josie creates for her an online profile which peaks the interest of two seemingly opposite but equally athletic men { Firefighting, competitive weightlifting, triathlete Dylan Stanwyck and triathlete ski resort owner Mike Pine} who just happen to be roommates, competitive, grieving over the recent loss of their life partner Jill and newly made billionaires. Lies of omission and misunderstandings provide for a rocky romance with multiple breakups only to have them reunite again after a tragic fire. Contains the portion of the story from Laura's meeting Dylan and Mike to their reunion with a 5 month pregnant Laura.
* Her First Billionaire contains the roller coaster of emotions Laura Michaels and Dylan Stanwyck experience as their instant attraction leads to more but ends poignantly with a misunderstanding. 18+ recommended for vivid intimate scenes .
*Her Second Billionaire is a bit repetitive in thoughts and emotions containing Laura's angst with Dylan, her moving beyond her semisedentary comfort zone to start another instant attraction romance with Mike Pine the day after her date with Dylan, and Dylan's frustration with Laura's silence . 18+ recommended for vivid intimate scenes.
*Her two Billionaires is a fast paced segment of doubts, frustration, jealousy and steamy scenes as Josie tries help Laura find peace and Laura tries to handle the emotions caused by Dylan and Mike suddenly springing their relationship on her in Mike's cabin. 18+ recommended for vivid intimate scenes.
*Her Two Billionaires and a Baby is the longest of this four part story highlighting the rocky romance and break ups of the threesome who finally reunite after a tragic fire where the men learn of Laura's pregnancy. 18+ recommended for vivid intimate scenes.
Book 2: It's Complicated 3 stars I purchased on KU a copy of the steamy novel It's Complicated: Her Billionaires book 2 by Julie Kent and this review was given freely. A story of finding love, trust, and stability despite a dysfunctional family combined with a steamy instant attraction romance with a preference for outdoors. A good story but vivid at times over the top descriptions and unfiltered scenes may not be for everyone. Carrying the name of one of Dylan's standard phrases this novel depicts Laura and Josie's close friendship becoming more distant as Laura's family takes up her time, Josie receiving the dubious honor of the only one to know the baby's paternity, the potential job of running a menage based dating service is brought up, as well as an emotional and at times humorous rendition of giving birth combined with Josie's steamy budding romance with OB resident Dr.Alex Derjian. Can be read as a standalone as it contains recaps from the four preceding sections but is best if read in order. I skimmed over most of the vivid intimate scenes. 18+ recommended for vivid intimate scenes.
Book 3: Completely Complicated: The wedding containing the novellas Complete Abandon, Complete Harmony, Complete Bliss and Complete We. 3 stars I purchased on KU a copy of the steamy novel Completely Complicated: Her Billionaires book 2 by Julie Kent and this review was given freely. This is the rocky romance of Alex and Josie with a heavy emphasis on Josie's dysfunctional family, her cousin Darla's moving to Boston with her two male band partners Trevor and Joe but also weaves in an update on the sleep deprived parents Laura, Mike and Dylan. I skimmed over most of the vivid intimate scenes. 18+ recommended for vivid intimate scenes
Book 4: Always Complicated 4 stars I purchased on KU a copy of the steamy novel Always Completely Complicated: Her Billionaires book 4 by Julie Kent and this review was given freely. Jumping four years into the future this is emotional, stress filled and at times suspenseful, we are shifted from Boston to the reunion of dysfunctional family members in a Maine campground where another rich threesome are in the owner's family and, best friends Laura and Josie plan to marry their men but life events and doubts interfere. I skimmed over most of the vivid intimate scenes. 18+ recommended for vivid intimate scenes
Josie is a safe haven and a vicious guard when Laura needs a place to hide. The men have no idea what set her off. They only know they need to get her back. But, yet again, lies of omission are revealed and she can't handle anymore. She tells them to go away and means it.
This may end all relationships all the way around. Except that this time, Laura has a secret that she does not know how to share.
When a tragedy brings the men back into her world she has no choice but to reveal her secret and hope for forgiveness.
Again, not much happens in this book. There's more secret-keeping, secret-revealing, hurt feelings, repeat. After finishing this series (aka singular book with long chapters masquerading as a series), I felt like I ended up exactly where I started. The characters are pretty one-dimensional and unrealistic, their actions and emotions were a bit like a broken record where everything is magically fixed in the end.
It wasn't good or terrible, but sort of like bad fan fiction. Cliched characters and mega-drama over nothing.
There was a lot more “meat” to this part of their story and it gave us a chance to get to know all the characters better. Unfortunately for Laura, that case was not a good thing for her and me, because I really wasn’t a fan of the person I was getting to know. She’s constantly jumping to the incorrect conclusions, she won’t stand still long enough to have an adult conversation, and every time things look like they might be about to get the tiniest bit difficult she runs for cover. To be honest, I’m a little bit baffled why Mike and Dylan want her for a romantic partner.
And baby makes...four!?! Finding it all with two men who compliment each other seems like a dream come true for Laura... but the fact of the matter is that Yes!... these two are EVERYTHING when they are put together with her. 4 Happily Ever After Stars for "Her Two Billionaires and a Baby ".
Humor, angst and a happily ever after. I totally enjoyed the continuation of Mike, Laura and Dylan’s story. Admitting when you’re being dumb and that your own actions are causing you heartache is tough. These three had to lose it all to find out what they had and what they could have.
I think it was a good book. I would recommend only people who are into erotic romance read this because if this isn't your stuff than it can be really disturbing.
I was so frustrated in this book. I get her past, and that it makes her a little more skittish about things. Her anger and confusion of springing the threesome on her was valid, and even the holding back of the money issue. But then to turn around and do the exact same thing to them? She lost tons of credibility right there. And this is not something trivial like sex or money, this is a life! She robbed them of the ability to be there and enjoy the beginnings of their child. I wanted to see her man up and do the right thing since she spent so much time screaming at them about doing it!
Another point that left me wanting more answers was the argument between Dylan and Mike. I have struggled with these two all through the series and then to be left out in the cold when there was a perfectly good chance to sum their relationship up, well it was disappointing. I still don't quite feel like I have a grasp on them. My BFF and I read these at the same time and I said to her, I feel like they are roommates who are okay with sleeping with the same woman, at the same time. I never got the love and connection between them. I will say this, it hurt like hell when Mike walked away. It was jarring and I felt so sad for each of them, they were all in their own place of sadness and needed someone that wasn't there. I think Laura got off the best since she had her BFF to talk, cry and sympathize with her. The guys lost everything. I didn't expect to feel the devastation for them that I did!
And last but not least. I did not like the silly and Harlequin Romance words she used in her sex scenes. Love Cave? Really?!? Don't insult our intelligence, find some good words that aren't crude and insensitive, yet aren't cheesy and laughable too!
I like this author, I won't hesitate to buy more of her novels, but every good author has a novel or two that sometimes just doesn't have me loving the characters and in this case makes me fall out of love with them.
There are so many issues that this trio could have faced, so many truly important societal reactions they could have confronted with each other and internally about their entire relationship dynamic. But she gets angry that they kept the information that they're rich from her?!
Maybe I am old fashioned, but I find it rather crass to ask someone how much money they have. I'm not sure that how much their net worth is was any of her business unless she was moving in with them and they were discussing the division of bills. Her reaction actually had me cheering for them to walk away from her.
Also, she gets aroused in the shower, I get it. I got it during all the other books too. It doesn't actually progress the plot of the series at all and provides no value to the story line. It's almost like a page/porn filler.
I could go on, but really any more and I'd just be picking on the novel.
Now Laura has her own secret that she is keeping from Dylan and Mike. Josie keeps telling her she has got to tell them she is pregnant. She has got to put someone's name on the birth certificate for the fathers name or the state will put the baby in foster care if anything happens to Laura. Mike and Dylan are a mess without Laura. Mike continues to go out of his way to drive past Jeddy's to possibly catch a glance of Laura. He sees her one day and she is absolutely glowing. That night, Dylan goes to the fire house and gets a scanner. Before he knows it, there is a call at her apartment. He makes the 15 minute drive in 6 and saves her. But they realize she is pregnant. She finally tells them she is pregnant and they are so overwhelmed and excited. But they agree they don't care what Josie says about who the father is, they are just so freaking happy. Laura is so relieved, but her house is destroyed and has to go home with them and they pamper her beyond belief. But they have all now lied to each other and have to begin anew, but it is so worth it.
Dylan & Mike have really screwed things up, keeping more secrets drom Laura, and she finally can't take it. This is the final straw, and she can not take the heartache of losing her men again. She has cut them off from her and is moving on. Then she finds out...Yep, Prego. (the title kinda gives this away)
Will Mike and Dylan recover from Laura leaving? They both are furious with each other, and heartbroken.
Will Laura tell them that one of them is the father? Will they win her back? Will she move on with her life and her new addition? What type of HEA will we get?
This probably isn't my favorite of the series, but if you have read the other three, then get some closure with this one.
Also, this book actually goes to the end (doesn't end at 69% like the previous books).
Okay, I get that Dylan and Mike didn't tell her about their billionaire status, but so what? Of all the things to get upset about, finding out the guy(s) you're with are billionaires isn't that bad. Plus, it's a pretty crappy thing to hide your pregnancy from the guys. I wanted to see the kid being born, but for that, you have to read the spin-off series following Josie. I definitely won't be doing that. As is, the series ended very abruptly. I got to the end and was like, "wait, what? Where's the rest!?"
There was minimal character development. They seemed very one dimensional and pretty annoying, actually. Like caricatures of actual people.
This whole series has been a huge clusterf*ck from the beginning. I wanted to like it. The idea intrigued me and the plot had promise. It just fell short for me.
