Using an array of characters familiar with the trappings of a jet-set lifestyle, author Lane Lee Lansing conjures up a startling tale weaving greed, indulgence, deceit, and corruption together with gluttonous sexual abandon and ravenous drug abuse in the novel Cage of Privilege. The storyline chronicles one family’s rise as they become a dominant force in politics and business, highlighting the sometimes savage means they use to build and retain their station at the top echelon of society.
The book investigates the plight of billionaire Jane Chambers Torrance and her family after her son is savagely murdered. A sordid historical portrait blossoms from her charmed life to reveal its own fair share of misery. A question develops throughout the plot – asking readers, “Who is actually in this cage?” Moral bankruptcy threatens the most innocent of bystanders as a war involving financial terrorism and political corruption ensues.
“It’s been a journey inventing the lives of each character who all have different inspirations and expectations for their own lives,” noted Lansing. “When tragedies strike, the gut wrenching results could trigger significant discussion. How would our moral barometers respond if presented with a similar set of circumstances?”

A very unique and (I presume) astonishingly honest perspective into the lives of society's elite in the United States. It reminded me of an adult (and much better written) version of the tv series Gossip Girl.
The characters are mostly despicable by my standards in their dealings, but unless you live with rose-colored glasses, this is branch of society does exist and the story provides what I would call a front row seat at the behind the scenes dirty laundry of the privileged class.
I would recommend this book to those who are fans of contemporary fiction and literature, and also this may be a good book for book clubs as there certainly is a lot to ponder once you close the final chapter.
Thank you again to Mr. Lansing for my autographed copy!
This book has a lot of surprises. It really kept me going I had to keep reading. This book was a great read I recommend it to anyone who loves mystery. I won this book on Goodreads.
Cage of Privilege is a dark saga about a wealthy family and their personal and business exploits. The story held my attention though the indulgence of it all made me want to abandon it. There were quite a few surprising twists, right up until the very end. Some were so unexpected I was left wondering how the characters got to such a place. I liked the way the story took place over many years and involved several generations. This novel was twisted and imaginative and delivered an attention-grabbing story.
great read, very well written, and cannot wait for a new one to be released. I will gladly purchase a sequel the instant it is available. I completely recommend this book to all my fellow bibliophiles.
