I like Peel's approach to managing a home and family. As a quote from the back cover says, "In the Family Manager, Kathy Peel not only gives your demanding job a new title, she shows you how to use the same skills and strategies that successful business managers use. The Family Manager system isn't about working harder. It's about working smarter -- delegating, team-building, simplifying -- so you'll have more time to do the things that...are important to you."

The edition I have was published in 1996, so a few things related to technology in the home might need to be updated. However, the overall way of thinking that Ms. Peel teaches is timeless.

I think with any books about home and family, it's best not to try to copy the suggestions slavishly, but for the reader to adapt them to her family and her values. Since Peel teaches not only the practicals but a way of thinking about family management, her system is very adaptable.

I think that women who work outside the home, women who run a business from home and women who make home and family their career can all benefit from reading "The Family Manaer."

Some really wonderful quotes and points throughout book. It inspired me and really helped change my perspective. I didn't find tons of practical tips or new ideas, although I suppose you would if you haven't read many books in this self-help category, but I have. I like her take on the mom being the manager of the family and changing our own perspective and how we approach our "job". Great ideas in that area!

I'm sure this is a bit dated but back when I was starting my home this book helped me set up my home organization system. I still employ many of these practical tips. Time, food, finance, and property management are the basis of this system. I plan to review these books this year and place them in my reference section. I plan to review this one and read two of her others I have on my shelf- Everyday Survival Guide and Guide for Working Moms.

Wow... there's lots of practical ideas in here. So many that I had to be careful not to be overwhelmed. But...I took just a few do-able ones for me at the time and applied them.

Good for those who are naturally unorganized. I am natrually organized, so a lot of this was common sense to me.

A little dated, but great information. I love a person that can organize! :) This book is very validating to mothers.
