Heart of an empress

Luke weaves a classic tale of the travails that a queen faces in a lawless land and when you show some human weakness on people who only understand the language of the sword.

Unrest led by religious fanatics who crave for power and world domination and sanctioned by the rich people in power who want to grow richer still.
Written a decade back the story seems an allegory of the current world and we see the similar people with swords replaced by ammunition.

What is heartening is the lady herself in different circumstances still remains true to her vow and is an idealist in a world which does not like idealist's.

What the world doesn't know is that the trappings and finery do not hide or change the pure heart and her power and single mindedness which help her circumvent her challenges.

Sonja also craves for her old life and this shows in her various actions.

This turns up as an end to this series.

Lots of blood, gore, action, sorcery in the pages.

Loved the book.

QUEEN SONJA: HEAVY IS THE CROWN is the final installment of the Queen Sonja series and it's a shame because seeing Sonja as the ruler of Sogaria was something that put her in some interesting positions. Sadly, you could tell the writers wanted to get her back to being a homeless wandering adventurer and I feel like this should have gone "alternate universe" and had her retire here. After all, Conan became a King and became his own man as well.

Still, Sonja decides being a Queen is not for her and there's no surprise there. She also tries to host a tournament to see who she would marry and this gets used by her enemies to formulate plots against her. There's a lot of intrigue here and I like the enemies even if I feel they're a bit whiny for the final antagonists of a series.

Also, Sonja is WEIRDLY JUDGY about one of the princesses having casual sex. Sonja who has plenty of prostitute friends would not say that.

This also was so baaa-aaaa-aaaad. No wonder the whole series was cancelled pretty soon after these stories and the rest of the series was never collected to trade paperback.
