Great guide for urban design enthusiasts

Academic purpose

Generally a good book but quite centered around "American" urban design, where every square inch is utilized and structured. While the Sustainable Design principles and the Universal Design principles are mentioned, it was difficult to find useful examples of those principles in action within the book. I was hoping for good examples of urban design where more thought is given to reducing the heat island effect (maybe by using more natural spaces `ala Central Park in NYC) and the incorporation of urban farming, local energy production, and the use of sustainable building materials in how the final urban design is presented. Still, overall, its a starting point.
