Sandra Keith Boynton is an American humorist, songwriter, director, music producer, children's author, and illustrator. She has also designed calendars, wallpaper, bedding, stationery, paper goods, clothing, jewelry, and plush toys for various companies.
Oh how I LOVE LOVE LOVE this latest from the brilliant Sandra Boynton. It's got Ben Folds banging away on an old piano, and Alison Kraus singing so sweetly about the weather, it'll make your heart ache. Dwight Yokum's no nonsense rendition of "I've Got A Dog" is stuck in my head pretty much forever. Much but not all of this fab CD + picturebook was recorded in Nashville, which makes me miss Music City even more than I already do. All in all, a lovely fun bit of publishing.
Not a read aloud book. The songs are awesome and would be a lot of fun for kids who are learning to play the piano as the music is included. For us grown ups the best part might be recognizing musicians we love. Darius Rucker, anyone?
"She'll never win a prize for bein' dog pretty in a fancy show in a great big city" has to be one of the most brilliant country lyrics of all time. This book and album are fabulous, up there with Blue Moo as her best work.
'Frog Trouble' (for ages one to older than dirt) (Book & CD) by Sandra Boynton
Bought this intending to give to my cousin, who just had her first baby...um...
Loved this book and CD so much, especially the title song, 'Frog Trouble' sung by Mark Lanegan, that I decided that I couldn't part with it!
(yeah, sorry cuz, I'm keeping it, lol; I'll buy you another one)
This is such a funny and cute book/CD combo, and I'm enjoying it immensely! I'm impressed that she got all these diverse singers/musicians to participate in the recording of this CD (wow), way to go!
Welp, as I mentioned, 'Frog Trouble' is one of my fave songs on this 'album', along with 'Alligator Stroll' sung by Josh Turner (go watch the video on YouTube, it's really fun watching all the kids doing their alligator bits, plus the music is catchy and fun).
Another fun song on here is 'Heartache Song', sung by Kacey Musgraves (who I wasn't familiar with, as Country-Western style music isn't my usual playground, but "Boy Howdy!" she has a fabulous voice and can really belt out that song!)
And a beautiful, haunting, kind of bittersweet song, 'End of a Summer Storm', sung by Alison Krauss, had me all up in my feels! (loved the video on YouTube!)
Oh, and also loved these two songs:
'I've Got A Dog', sung by Dwight Yoakam, a really funny song, especially if you love dogs (me! I do!)(grin) (cute video also on YouTube)
And, 'When Pigs Fly', sung by Ryan Adam's, a beautiful reminder that when you're feeling sad or that things aren't going particularly well for you at the moment, there's hope. (love this!) (check out the vid for this song, too) (...and no, I don't own stock in YouTube, lol)
Anyway, you may have guessed by now how much I like this book/CD combo! And, let's not forget that the multi-talented Sandra Boynton drew all the cartoons, plus wrote all the songs, along with her musician partner, Michael Ford, who is amazing!
Sandra Boynton has created several songbooks over the years. FROG TROUBLE is a country music round up. It features songs by Sandra Boynton performed by country music greats like Brad Paisley, Alison Krauss, and many more.
Inside the front cover you will find a CD and a note that these tracks can also be found on most streaming platforms. I wish there was a way to scan a code and go to a playlist.
The book has three parts. The first one encourages you to look while you listen. These spreads have cute Boynton art and portions of the lyrics for each song. The second part invites readers to sing and play along. There is a page with simple music and the full lyrics to each song here. The third and final section has photos and a small bio about each performer.
For music loving kids, this is a fun book. The songs are playful. The recordings are solid. It is a different kind of book that might just be the right fit for your child.
Songs Awards: N/A Appropriate Grade Levels: PK-5 Summary: Frog Trouble is a combination of CD and song book that children are sure to enjoy. One of Boynton's most appreciated pieces, Frog Trouble features a country theme conducted by some of the genre's most popular artists. Frog Trouble is a country album for kids and for everyone. Review: Frog Trouble is more of a sophisticated set of songs for higher elementary level children however, it still will be enjoyable for anyone. There are a wide variety of songs--some slow and some upbeat/fast so, all students should find something they like. The book that goes along with the CD also has great illustrations and is very good quality. In-Class Uses: -Use between lessons as a break for children -The songs in this set talk about some pretty important things, so some could be used by the teacher when trying to pass on a message to students
(chi) all words/songs written by the author; loads of country music personnel on this CD and all are given picture and bio credits at the end of the book.., the story, well it’s cute and that’s about it; bought for an MD friend who is retiring and he reportedly lost his original book (this MD friend loses a lot of things…, just sayin’); 2013 hardback via Amazon purchase; 65 pgs.;
Have been listening to this off and on for a couple of weeks! Lots of fun, so cute. Reminds me of the “Baby Blues” music collection that I used to play and sing with my boys, although this collection is vastly improved by the always fun illustrations of Boynton. Highly recommended for parents of little ones and anyone who likes country music.🎶
I love Frog Trouble. This little book has a CD 💿 but all the songs are also connected on Sandra Boy ton’s YouTube Channel. They are great for ages one to older than dirt.
In this book and CD set are 12 fun silly illustrated songs performed by actual country singers and musicians. Music scores are included. Songs are: I've Got a Dog; Trucks; Frog Trouble; Heartache Song; When Pigs Fly; Broken Piano; Copycat; End of a Summer Storm; Alligator Stroll; Beautiful Baby; Deepest Blue; More Frog Trouble.
My 3 and 7 year old loved listening and reading along. Trucks and Copycat are favorites, along with Frog Trouble (of course). I loved Heartache, so true to the genre.
Frog Trouble and Eleven Other Pretty Serious Songs – songs and illustrations by Sandra Boynton – I loved every minute of this book. Can’t wait to teach my students the Alligator Stroll. I remember years ago sharing another Sandra Boynton book, Philidelphia Chickens, which shared the Philidelphia Chicken Dance, first time I started dancing with my students. What fun! Beautiful music to listen to throughout.
Another Boyton hit! There were too many slow songs for my taste, but the peppy ones were fun. I may share one or two with my students. The dog one is funny. Also liked broken piano. I enjoy reading about artists in rear or book. I am also glad she provides the sheet music. Fun for adults and kids alike.
Read with 1 year old grandbaby. We both loved the music cd that came with it. It was nice to have the words to the song that we could follow along with and the illustrations were cute. Now I want to buy it for my older granddaughter, I think she'd like it too.
Includes a c.d. of the very clever original lyrics and music -- which is what we played as our library pre-school story time guests arrived and then later during our "craft and coloring" finale` segment.
The CD was pretty good and the lyrics were entertaining. Some of the songs were a little too melancholy or slow but a great selection of voices. The best one in the set was Josh Turner performing "Alligator Stroll", I could listen to that again and again!
