Lots of mix feelings about this one.

First off, let me start by saying that I love the concept. I love the world building. I love this idea where humans are divided in tribes (segments), and during the story we get glimpses of the benefits but also the consequences of that. It's certainly a topic that makes us think.

Now, even though the selling card for this book is the "segments" aspect of how humans live in this universe, that is just the context to set you up in the story. The story itself is not related to that. It's a different thing that I won't mention to avoid spoilers, and that is where part of my issues with this lies.

I wish the segments were a more central piece and that the plot would be more focused on that.

Regardless, that is just part of my issues. Overall, I felt the story was not very well structured. Some events were all over the place. The writing itself leaves a lot to desire. The writing didn't felt as one of someone that is experienced in writing comics, let's put it this way.

And all this is a big problem because the art deserved a better writing. The art is absolutely gorgeous and it's by far the best aspect of this book. Gimenez is a well known illustrator and I can see why. If it wasn't for the art itself, I don't think this book would be very relevant.

That said, if you like good art, this is still a worth read, and like I said, this universe concept is still very good, just not very well executed, in my opinion.

By the way, I just noticed that it took me almost 13 days to finish this read (between other reads). I think that says a lot of how enticing the writing is.
