Many people struggle with health and illness. Many people deeply want to connect their spiritual beliefs to their whole life, but would like assistance. Christ Walk, is a 40-day journey designed for individuals or groups to focus on improving their physical health while also engaging in spiritual and mental reflection and growth. Christ Walk is a 40-day challenge where individuals or groups select different routes in the Bible to challenge them to complete (through walking, running, biking, acts of kindness, etc.) while reading a reflective passage on health and spirituality each day of the journey. I believe there is a mind, body and spiritual connection to health and when we do not approach our health holistically and God-centered, then all the medicine in the world will not get us well.
This is a great book about fitness: physical, mental, and spiritual. It includes several goals to select from depending on where you are physically and the daily readings provide advice on different aspects of meeting your goal. I loaned this to the Parish Nurse at the church where I work and she recommended it to several members of our congregation as well.
I did this book as a Lenten challenge with a friend. The book itself is very sophomoric. If you know much about health and fitness you aren't going to learn much from this book. My other beef with this book is she had her own agenda. Growing up a Kansas farm kid I don't eat organic (because we don't farm that way) and I don't feel any less healthy because of it. I feel that is her own agenda and was in there a lot more than needed. With that said, it does do a good job of tying faith into why you should maintain and love your body and also of telling why taking care of yourself mentally, physically and spiritually is important. I also enjoyed that this book held me accountable. I felt obligated each day to write down what I did for exercise, how many steps I took and how I ate. If you are needing a little motivation to be all around healthier and to hold yourself accountable, this is a great book. If you already know about health and are wanting to learn, this book isn't for you.
I used it through lent. Daily reflections. It took me sixty days to complete it! I missed some days, but I kept going back to it. And it inspired me to go back to using my fit bit.
Parts of this book deserve 5 stars and other parts less. I love the idea of this book, connecting health and fitness to spirituality. I found that her devotions on mind, body, spirit, connections were thought provoking and wonderful. But this was interwoven with more practical devotions which I felt were a little pedantic. I will definitely continue doing the 40 Christ walk challenges though and hope to start a group at church.
