He liked to go the park and watch the little girls. That is when he saw her. She was the one who would help launch his business venture, Whitfield's Little Angels. It was so easy. They always believed him. She was twelve years old and so sweet and innocent. That was 13 years ago.

Now. Erin Prescott was only 15. She was sneaking to the mall after school to meet up with Jason Avery.

The rain would help disguise his blitz attack.

Josh Ander was CEO and founder of Ander All Games, the front man. Todd was the programmer, the brains of the company, but he liked to stay low profile. Josh treated his employees to Friday nights out at the local hangout, Gulls. It was like patting a dog for a job well done and in return they would work harder to please him. When he walked in, the guys were talking about a wolf being seen in the city. Sure.

Melanie had been stalking Josh, but when she followed him into the men's room to suggest a quickie, it was the last straw. He had made a mistake by sleeping with her once and now she thought he really wanted her. He slipped out the back way, just going for a breath of fresh air and to regroup. He lost track of where he was, until he found himself surrounded by four men, one with a knife. He didn't care about the cash or the watch, but his wife had died and he wasn't going to give up his wedding ring.

All of a sudden, she appeared, as if from thin air, like a goddess from one of his video games. He saw a warrior with a light saber. She was all over them, using her night stick, her hands, her feet, karate kicking them until they went down. While they were down, she gave each one of them a few more kicks and hits to make sure they stayed there.

When he asked her name she told him, Skye Cree. She wanted to take him to the hospital because he had been stabbed. Instead, he convinced her to take him home.

"She had been on the hunt and now it seemed she had to babysit a helpless, wasted schmuck."

She got him home and played doctor, patching him up. Was there anything she couldn't do, he wondered? After she patched him up, she left him, passed out.

She'd lost his trail. She knew she would never be finished, that there would always be another.

As she looked into the fog, she came face to face with a wolf - its eyes as violet as her own. It would take Kiya to help her find the bones of others.

5 STARS - Would Buy It For Them (lol)

Who is she? Why is she here? What is she hunting? And that was only the first chapter.

I love love love it. Paranormal, romance, crime. A gorgeous hunk of man and a woman superhero, with the monster next door thrown in.

I love the cover. Vickie's book covers seem to speak to me, making me want to read the book before I even find out what it is about. Her writing is amazing and her stories are so easy to read that I begin to live and breathe with her characters.

The plot is so well-developed that I am drawn from page to page and chapter to chapter, not wanting to stop for anything. Just wanting to find out what was going to happen next.

Skye - I love that the main character is a female warrior, with her Nez Perce Indian heritage, it made the warrior image even more appropriate. Instead of the sword and shield, she had Karate and a night stick. No nine to five job for her. She had a mission and a purpose that drove her to accomplish the amazing things she did. I love strong female characters in novels, because I feel I could never be that person, but I want to have the opportunity to feel the things she feels and do the things she does and through words I am able to do that. Vickie is so good at drawing me in and making me feel a part of the story.

Josh - A rich, handsome, sexy man who is not stuck on himself. What's not to love? Accepting of her being the strong one, but still knowing how to bring his assets to the table. I love that the main male character wanted to help her with her mission and went about making it possible for her to continue to do so without expecting or wanting anything from her, other than herself.

Vickie's characters are so intriguing, that you wish you knew them, that they were your friends. How interesting life would be if they were. They could be your everyday person next door, who gets up and goes to work at their day job. I love the way Vickie depicts her women - no weak, sniveling, crying. whining femme fatale's for her.

I wanted to read it cover to cover, non-stop, but my eyes grew heavy and the words began to blur. I didn't want to miss a word of it, so I slowly closed the Kindle and called it a night.

Vickie's books are chock full of love and romance, adventure and thrills. Heart stopping and heart warming. I can't help but think that at least one of her books is bound to become that mega-hit movie you are waiting for

I received this book from the author, in return for an honest and unbiased review.

"The Bones of Others: A Skye Cree Novel" by Vickie McKeehan was a surprise hit for me. I expected a blind revenge thriller but found a much more evolved and serious book about Skye Cree, a woman who once was abducted and raped and who now is on the hunt for her tormentor and other paedophiles. Her character acts more out of care and sympathy for the victims than out of fury and hate, which makes her very likeable and multi-dimensional in her role.
On one of her nights in town she rescues businessman Josh Ander who in gratitude for her help assist her in her quest. Owner of a gaming company and experienced hacker he has a lot to offer, not least a romantic interest, which given Skye's history is not without serious complications, making this again a much deeper read than I had expected.
In the mix is Detective Harry and last but certainly not least Skye's spirit guide.
McKeehan is very good at developing the characters and at the description of the situations and scenes she creates.
It takes a lot of courage to tackle an issue as serious and emotional as paedophilia and I must congratulate the author for handling it so well.
Highly recommended.

This was a great book. I wasn’t sure going into it but it ending up being an engrossing tale of survival, mysticism, human depravity, and so much more. Josh and Skye are awesome together and Kyia is an excellent secondary character.

Skye Cree is a girl with a past. One that shaped her, formed her, reformed her and made her into a mean fighting machine. She is also only a young woman who got kidnapped and raped at the age of 13.
So Skye, a vigilante by definition meets Josh. He is rich, older and lost his wife due to...well, read this and find out the truth. For what he thinks happened and what happened is not the same thing.

Together they start out on a crusade, one Skye is reluctant to let Josh take part in but since they have become lovers she feels as if she needs to let him into parts of her life previously only hers.

So they go off...

Ok enough of the story. The characters are extremely well formed and those one is supposed to like or love is liked or loved. Those you are supposed to hate is hateable. That should be a word you know. Hateable. Anywhoo. The world building is the under belly, the seedy part of suburbia Seattle. The parks, the homes. The apartments in the city. It is all so normal, it is all safe for children, until that is a predator is out on the prowl. And this is done extremely well by the author. In the end. This world juxtaposed with the normal safe childhood every child deserves is simply heart wrenching. The plot line is fast and has a few really nice twists.

I adored this book. I am sure that those who have a fondness for this genre will adore this book as much as I did.

When I first read the book summary for "The Bones of Others" I was uncomfortable with the idea of reading this book. You see, I do not enjoy books that deal with rape and degenerate behaviour towards women; yet, the premise for this series had me intrigued. So, I decided to take a chance and read it. Boy, I am glad I did. Although the read was uncomfortable at times it also had me on the edge of my seat.

Twelve year old, Skye Cree was taken by pedophile, Sonny Whitfield. After raping her, Skye managed to escape. After the police captured him and the DA was preparing for trial, another tragedy struck Skye: her parents were killed in a car accident. Skye was handed over to her over religious Aunt and Uncle who treated her like she had the plague. They refused to allow her to testify against Whitfield so he got off with a lighter sentence.

Now, Skye is an adult on a mission to take down pedophiles in the Seattle area. She has managed to save the lives of three girls and unbeknownst to the public, she has a spirit guide in the form of a silver wolf who helps her hunt for the victims and the victomizers. Her ability to save others has earned her a reputation.

One night Skye rescues Joshua Ander, geek game writer and entreprenuer, from three muggers. Although Josh is stabbed, he refuses to go to the hospital. Skye takes him back to his place where she attempt to patch him up. Josh is fascinated by Skye and wants to help her in her vigilante quest. Soon they are working together and Skye begins to discover she is a woman who has needs and is not defined by the tragedies of her past. But, with so many culprits out there searching for innocence, Skye and Josh just might end up victims themselves.

I enjoyed this read even though I had to read it in small doses. There was plenty of action, intrigue and unsavory characters; yet, there were joyful moments as well like the time Skye saves a teenager and returns her to her parents. I will admit that I did have a problem with the way the author has Skye somewhat eagerly embark on a romantic relationship. You would expect a rape victim to have more trouble with intimacy. I felt the author could have used this moment to educate people on the problems associated with rape victims trying to get back to a normal life. That is the reason I only gave this book 4 out of 5 stars. I think author, Patricia Briggs, is a master at handling this tough issue in her Alpha and Omega series.

Would I recommend this book? Absolutely; but, if you are as skemish as me with the issue of violence against women and more specifically girls, you should be aware that this book addresses it. Read it for yourself and decide.

Skye Cree is abducted in her childhood and fortunately she manages to escape. However, her parents die just a year later in a car accident and she is forced to live with her aunt and uncle. They are too "embarrassed" by what happened to Skye and for some reason refuse to let her testify against her abductor. He only gets limited jail time.

Fast forward to Skye as an adult and she vows to stop child abductors and vows to help rescue those children who have also been victims. During one of her nighttime walks, she runs into Josh, who is being jumped by some street thugs. Skye receives much help from Josh, as well as her wolf spirit guide, Kiya, in her quest to find the lost children and to get revenge towards her abductor once and for all.

This book was surprisingly amazing! I enjoyed Vickie McKeehan's writing style, especially when it comes to her character and world development. I also liked how there was not only mystery but also romance and fantasy. I completely loved Skye - she is definitely strong, but I notice how her character eventually softens up to Josh and learns to trust him more. At any rate, this book definitely exceeded my expectations and I plan on reading the other volumes of this series. This is highly recommended with a warning to those that may be sensitive to the subjects of rape, human trafficking and abduction.

This book choice happened due to a reading challenge that I'm in. In all honesty, I didn't have very high expectations when I came across this series and all I can say is...I'm hooked.

It captured attention from the first page and continued to have enough flow and interest to keep me reading. I loved the details in which the author provided that made the situations "believable" on many levels. I do think that it could have easily been split into two books (rather than pushed into one) and the overall plots drawn out better..but still - pretty good. Definitely looking forward to continuing the series.

(For those who have it, this book (as of 3/30) is available for free through Kindle Unlimited)

"His shoulder might be hurting like a son of a bitch and he was more than slightly sloshed but he recognized irritation and beauty when they come together in one gorgeous female face." SOMEONE TELL ME I DID NOT JUST READ THAT!! OW! My EYES!!! NO MORE I tell you! NO MORE!!! 630 people are trying to convince me that this is a 4/5 star book. But alas, I absolutely cannot stomach the writing.

A New Series-Another Great Novel

Skye Cree was a victim of kidnapping and sexual abuse at a young age. She luckily found an escape from her tormentor. Unfortunately, shortly after being returned to her parents and before the trial of he offender, Skye's parents are killed in an accident. Skye has to live with an extremely religious Aunt & Uncle. They are embarrassed by what happened to their niece and would not let her testify. The man was not punished to the full extent and now 10 yrs later he is released from prison. Skye goes on the prowl looking for him, looking for the children that are now being kidnapped, sexually assaulted and soon to be shipped off to buyers across the world.

One night while on the prowl for this man Skye comes across a man being beaten in a bar alley by four men, on armed with a knife. Skye jumps in and fights these men off of the now injured man, Josh. Skye takes Josh back to his apartment to bandage him up. She is surprised to see how fancy his place is. She finds out that Josh is wealthly . He has made money by creating on line games. He owns a huge gaming company.

The following day Josh shows up at Skye's apartment to thank her and to tell her he is going to help her track this man and find the missing girls with her. She is reluctant but accepts. She works with Josh teaching him how to fight. The more time they spend together Skye realizes she is falling for Josh. She has never let a man touch her since her traumatic kidnapping and abuse.

Skye has a spirit guide, a silver tiger, with the same gray/purple eyes as Skye. The only person besides herself who has ever seen her spirit guide, Kyra, is Josh. Skye believes Kyra feels Josh is her soulmate. That would explain how Josh is able to see and hear Kyra. They set out on a dangerous mission with Kyra by their side to take down this ring of human traffickers and save the girls that are still in the US.

I'm glad it showed how Skye became a much stronger person and did not see herself as a victim. She had become a strong, determined woman with much confidence and self assurance.

I couldn't put it down!

I really hemmed and hawed over whether to give this 3 stars or 2 stars. Ultimately, it boiled down to the fact that I kept turning the speed up on the audiobook to get through it faster just so I could be done with it, which I guess means I really didn’t care for it much. The narration was solid. I liked all of her voices except for the one she used for Harry the cop.

The basic storyline was good— 20-something woman of Nez Perce descent who was abducted and raped as a young girl has dedicated her adult life to finding other abducted girls and to breaking up a suspected trafficking ring. She does this with the help of her spirit guide— a wolf only she can see. If the author had stuck with the basic storyline, I think I would have enjoyed the book more. Instead, she turned it into a romance. Totally took me by surprise. A love interest would have been fine, but this completely turned into more of a romance and less of a thriller/suspense. I enjoy a good romance, and I enjoy romance as part of a story, but first, I wasn’t expecting this to be a romance. The blurb sells it more as a thriller/suspense novel, and second, the romance wasn’t done very well. For a woman who had been what she had been through as a young girl and who had not had any sexual relationships up until when the book takes place, she sure does a complete turn around rather quickly when she meets Josh. And their relationship turned serious so quickly, I didn’t feel it build. It just happened and it didn’t feel right to me.

In stark contrast to all the romance were way too many scenes from the point of view of either the victims or the pedophiles. These were very dark and disturbing and felt out of place with the tone of the rest of novel. Not that the other parts were light but the tone of the rest of the book wasn’t as dark. I felt a disconnect in the atmosphere.

I did not have any problem with the paranormal bent to the story. That part was interesting and different. But, overall, the book just didn’t work for me.

This book about very young girls being kidnapped; sexually, physically and emotionally abused while held in captivity, then eventually sold into the sex trade industry and shipped around the world to the highest bidder. Our heroine is one of those young girls who managed to escape and then made it her goal in life to prevent this from happening to as many young girls in and around her hometown, as possible.

I can't really say much about the story without giving things away, and that would not be fair to the reader. I will say it was a very well written story, and the main characters are very likeable.

I've read two books in this series now, and will definitely be getting the others.

Great read!

As a lifelong Seattleite.. I was prepared to like the book, no matter what. Very few writers do Seattle justice, so I was a little surprised when I realized I liked the characters a lot. I liked the way the main pair realized their feelings for each other so quickly ...instead of dragging along..and their dedication to help others. It’s a good book...just read it!!

I Tried to stop reading

Really. I am so used to reading lightweight novels when I picked up this one. There were several times that I thought "I can read this any more". I even went as far as picking up one of those lighthearted novels again, but my heart said to go back. This story's subject is horrible and dark but it needs to be told. Maybe in the form of a fictional novel is the way.
Besides that, The Bones of Others is an analysis entertaining experience.

Excellent

If you're looking for a great book with mysterious goings on and a kick butt female lead, look no futher. Skye Cree is the girl for you. Kidnapped and abused when she was 12, she managed to free herself and return home. Now, she goes after the people that bring so much harm to young girls. Excellent story with a cast of characters that will keep you on the edge of your seat. A must read.

ABSOLUTELY POSITIVELY FABULOUS.

What an amazing book. What an amazing story. What amazing characters. I absolutely love it when an author has the creative talent to make you accept and believe something you normally would not believe. A bit of fantasy is always a good thing. This is a must read book and I highly, highly recommend it.

Sadness

This book is full of lots of sadness. I loved how that was dealt with from Sky's point of view of what happened to her to and to the what has happened to others. The ending was blissfully happy. Thanks for opening up so many eyes.

Thriller Romance

This story is not only a thriller and a romance but it also has a bit of a Native American mysticism. A great story line and plot, but not for those with a queasy stomach. The subject matter is pretty grisly but could come right out of the crime beat headlines. A well put together story with larger than life characters.
