Still picking up the pieces after her recent divorce, successful business woman, Rebecca Cavendish, is set to fly out to a meeting with her most wealthy client in Las Vegas. But then she meets head-hunter, Annah Stevens, whose determination and dogged planning repeatedly put them on the same path. Not normally a problem until Rebecca arrives in the wrong place at the wrong time: bodies start pilling up and an inexperienced agent places her as his top suspect. Her only ally is Annah, but can she be trusted?
Very wordy and eloquently written story, very waxing poetic with lyrical style.
There's some action, eventually, and then we're left guessing and wondering of all that is happening, even right up til the end. Inbetween there's an attraction blooming between two MC's. While a third MC also gets a narrative.
Unfortunately it just never did seem to fully hit any marks, to make it feel satisfying as a reader. The romance has a push and pull, and yet never really gets off the ground. The mystery does much the same. As does the side story with the third character and their endeavors, which never are fully fleshed out, or known. The end game is bizarrely hidden, and all the motives and happenings throughout left hanging.
I really enjoyed the actual story and would have rated it 4 stars, but poor formatting and spelling errors let it down. No breaks between some paragraphs made it difficult to follow at times, varying font sizes and incorrect spelling (wait instead of weight, queue instead of cue) were irritations. Aside from that it was a good, pacey page turner of a thriller, although the ending could have been a bit better. It perhaps should be noted that it's female dominated book, and in addition to that there is a bit of love interest between the two main characters, so bear that in mind before reading it if that's likely to offend you (I did read a review of the book from someone who gave it 1 star because of this!).
Published in 2009, IRRATIONAL NUMBERS is set in London, in Vegas, and London again, and features two rich wimin: Rebecca Cavendish, a business womon; and Annah Stevens, a head hunter. It is a romance on a background of murders and industrial espionage. Rebecca is a freshly divorced heterosexual womon, who had never expected to fall in love with a womon. Annah is a lesbian who didn't expect to find her quarry more than simply attractive. The style is sleek and the happy ending has a twist. Secondary characters are alive and humorous.
I really enjoyed this book and for the excellent price, this is definitely worth a read. The story had me gripped from the beginning and it never ceased to let go until the end. Punctuated by nice touches from famous quotes, as well as engaging characters with moments of genuine humour, it all helped to keep my attention until the thrilling climax where the mystery came together. I found the description to be very good as well; I could picture clearly the settings and the characters. I think the author has a lot of potential and I’m looking forward to more of her work. Fantastic read.
What a ride! Brilliant writing and editing, exciting mystery, murder & mayhem, and laugh aloud dialogues made this read a real treat. The only reason I didn't rate it 5 stars is because I feel the romance was under-played toward the end, which left me somewhat dissatisfied, yet it's still a story worthy of your time.
I was a little disappointed with the ending I guess I was waiting for the main characters to finally be together. I hope there is a second book would love to know more about the supporting characters.
