Amylynn read her first romance novel in 2008 after being a lifelong literary snob. By the time she was done, she was hooked.

She is an Arizona native and lives in the same house her husband owned before they were married. Amylynn fears she will never call another state home unless someone tells her husband there are forty-nine others to choose from. In reality, she'd settle for a walk-in closet.

Her family consists of the aforementioned husband, two beautiful children, two dogs, two cats, some fish, and a hankering for a panda. She'd like it mentioned she's never been in prison, but we'll see how that panda thing works out.

"For one chilling moment, Roselyn thought for sure the old sailor would be lost, but she grasped whole handfuls of his shirt and hauled him on board just before the small vessel crashed broadside into the roiling ocean".

The Sea Rose by Amylynn Bright

3.5 stars for this fun book.

The Sea rose is nothing if not fun. Reading it, one immediately enters the world of pirates, boats and the open sea. It is a fun book.

I used to avoid these types of books until many years ago, I read a full length Historical romance not very different then this book. I loved it! Then my interest in all things swash buckling was started!

So there are some sex scenes in this but it isn't really a bodice ripper or anything. It is short too, not a short story but more like a novella.

What I liked best are the descriptions of the sea. You can feel like you are there and almost feel the boat moving and the sea swirling around you.

I really do enjoy this type of read and although I do not read romance frequently, when I do, I like this type of story. It seems I chose well with The Sea Rose and highly recommended to fans of Historical Romance novels.

I was less than a hundred words into The Sea Rose when I could smell the sea air and feel the pitch and roll of the ship, no small accomplishment considering I was reading this right in the middle of the Sonoran desert. This romance was a fun adventure and a fast, enjoyable read. Especially impressive is Ms. Bright's ability to write life-like characters. I've always been a bit 'meh' about pirates but after reading this, and having Handsome Jack come to life in the pages, I'm now looking at my husband and thinking a bit longer hair and a gold earring might suit him well. Bottom line, Amylynn Bright is an emerging talent to watch.

*Warning: Spoilers Ahead*

This book was more of a novella. In the first few pages, I found myself hooked. Roselyn is on a sinking ship, and doesn’t know how to swim. She is rescued by an old sailor—who we never hear from again—and the two float out to sea in nothing but a row boat. Sounds great, right? Well, for me, it just wasn’t. From the moment Roselyn and Handsome Jack the supposed pirate meet, the story—much like the ship Roselyn starts out on—sinks. There was literally no chase in this romance. Roselyn is an engaged virgin, yet all it takes is a little wine and she’s in love with Jack. Jack is the captain of a pirate ship, yet after one night he’s willing to throw all of it away and face the family who has ostracized him his whole life. What? It was like reading a summary of a real story. All of it had so much potential. If only the author would have stretched it out a bit.

Hard to get into that move to long towards the middle and ending

The story was very predictable. I liked the characters An enjoy the escape section of the story. I was a little confused when it said what happened to their children and then I read the blip, and with thoroughly confused. So did Handsome Jack Leave the woman I'm confused.

A very good short story

The book was good but too short. It was just getting good when it ended. I am going to start reading the series of their children.

Shortage of all things pirate

I loved the book, what was written but feel I need more. More travel and another storm would be a good addition.

Nice quick read

It's a relief to read a short book without dozens of pages of conversation between each action scene. Although, I do have to say that it annoyed me to have her screaming so much the first few pages of the book. That's all right maybe it's part of the genre.

I do love a well written disaster story, and while The Sea Rose is actually an entertaining Historical Romance, it opens with a white knuckled, heart stopping, ship sinking in the Atlantic. The author's description pulls the reader right into the ship with the books heroine Roselyn, you feel like you are being slammed against the walls of the cabin with her and dropped into the waves below as the lines tethering the lifeboat to the ship are cut. That is why it made it's way across my desk - the early buzz was that this had a great opening and it certainly did.

A disaster story it is not - unless you consider the spunky, but virginal, Roselyn's encounter with notorious pirate at large Handsome Jack a disaster of another sort. As in, will this vision of masculinity in its prime form make her stray from her fiance, a minister, who awaits her on the island of Nassau?

Drinking games with Captain Handsome Jack ensue on board as the ship that rescued Roselyn makes it way to Nassau. The plot turned into quite a suspenseful tale once the ship docked in Nassau, and I - pleasantly - did not see the twist coming.

A fun, quick read with one lustful alpha pirate that will bring a smile to your face. Makes me want to scream "Aye, Aye, Captain!" and follow Handsome Jack's every command.

This is a fun, romantic, pirate fantasy, a clever novella that manages to be sweet and sexy at the same time. Handsome Jack is a dashing pirate who has a reputation for seducing (never rape, no, no - pirate fantasy, remember?) every woman who has been a "guest" aboard his ship. Roselyn Weldon is on her way to marry a stodgy minister, considered a good match. She is proud of her dutiful virtue and determined to remain steadfastly un-seduce-able.

You can guess what happens next, but Amylynn Bright gives us much more - action, adventure, humor, and a genuinely explosive happily-ever-after.

Recommended for those who enjoy fun characters and a quick, entertaining, sexy read.

Once again, I was completely enthralled with the delightful humor and characters Ms. Bright presents in her novels. Her ability to take the reader deep into the character's emotions
and thoughts is brilliant, and the chemistry between Rose and Handsome Jack sizzled, hot on the page, from the instant they met.

One of the things I adore the most about Ms. Bright's writing, aside from her fabulous descriptions and dialouge, is her characters personalities. They are people I quickly fall in love with.

I'm so tickled to have stumbled upon this author and will continue to look for her work. I heartily recommend, not only The Sea Rose, but Ms. Bright's other books as well.

Light, fun romp that isn't exactly a capture fantasy, but close enough. Handsome, hunky pirate who hides a heart of gold behind his ruthless facade, and innocent virgin destined to be married to a hypocritical minister, thanks to her overly strict, but recently deceased father. Fairly predictable, but enjoyable read.

A good read, lots of story-line and a nice lead up to the romance. Not straight to the plundering, so to speak, but our heroine takes charge of her own destiny. She isn't really spunky, just realistic. Our hero is the uncertain one, but he comes to his own decisions without her persuasion, so all good, all around!

Fun!

I bought it because I wasn't tired yet from reading another book by this author, it wasn't many pages and it was cheap. What an exciting book! First a sinking ship, then pirates, a drinking game, a wondrous hero and plucky maiden, jail, and a fortuitous escape. I can't wait to read about their children.

I'm a sucker for a short steamy story, especially one that opens with a white knuckled disaster. The pirate was hot, the heroine spunky, and the twist at the end I didn't see coming. An easy, breezy read - my fave kind of story.

I love a good pirate story, especially if the heroine is strong and capable, if a little out of her element. Roselyn is a modern woman in a fun romp of an historical romance. Jack is a rascal with a heart of gold. Good preview of what's to come from Amylynn!

why oh why do I put myself through reading these junky novels? I never really enjoy them and always find no end of flaws in them. I'm not a big lover of romance novels (not that I find these books even remotely romantic) but these really scrape the barrel
