The good, the bad and the ugly.

The good ~ hooray a friends to lovers story (I like a lot), sexual tension, no instant love confessions. Gorgeous, dark haired man-whore turned good male lead. Easy style reading.

The bad ~ a little bit (ok, alot) predictable, but I don't mind that so much. Sometimes I need a bit of light and easy. Unfortunately the female lead was a bit of walk over, talk about door mat, I like my girls sassy and likeable. Sadly this little lady lacked.

The ugly ~ The friends, oh my goodness they were horrendous, if the authors aim was to write unlikeable characters, then she achieved this to a tee. Think ugly sisters in Cinderella, or mean girls or cruela deaville x3!

All in all I enjoyed this cute little number. I Read the story in one sitting, I was entertained and amused. Read the blurb and enjoy.

I don’t usually write long reviews but this book was just too awful not to say something about. I wanted to like it, I tried to like it, but it was soooo terrible.

The short review: bad writing, typos and grammar errors galore, one-dimensional characters, and an unbelievable and incredibly boring love story.

The longer review:

There were so many typos and grammar errors throughout the book. It felt like I was reading someone’s first draft and not a final copy of a novel. For instance there was this gem: “Sparks fly between us as Ben slips his hands between my things.” Ooh what things? Intriguing. There was also this one: “Not to mention how we embarrassed them in front of all their closet family and friends.” Closet family? So are they like secretly gay? Oh okay, let’s have one more: “I pop a few gravel tablets for some much needed shut eye.” She’s eating dirt now? She’s really stooped to a new low.

The next thing that really bothered me was that her inner monologue would just not SHUT UP! She spent a good portion of the book thinking to herself instead of, well you know, doing something. Even in a sex scene. They’re messing around and things are getting steamy, so then what do you think should happen now? Do you think she should maybe be struck by a sudden bout of nostalgia and spend 3 paragraphs thinking about their childhood memories? No? Well that's what happens.

Then there was the immaturity. The main character, Megan, comes off as alarmingly childish and immature for a girl of 25. Actually, it’s a problem for all the characters, who are all constantly whining, pouting (like actual lip protruding pouts), sticking their tongues out at each other (seriously!), crossing their arms over their chests, stomping their feet (literally!), storming off, rolling their eyes, etc. One character even refers to a girl’s boobs as her “boobies”. Who calls them boobies past the third grade? At one point they’re throwing food at each other at a restaurant.

But the thing that bothered me the most was how stupid the main character was (SPOILER ALERT). This girl is like the most oblivious chick on the planet. We’re supposed to believe that this girl didn’t know her best friend had feelings for her even though he told her she was beautiful and tried to take her home from the bar. Nope. Just friends. And when they actually have sex for the first time, initiated by him, does she get the hint? Nope. Still just friends. What about when she starts seeing some other guy and he literally stomps out of the restaurant when he finds out, and then mopes around the whole next day, and then is openly rude to her love interest? Nope. Still just friends. This girl should attend some classes or something. I feel like she’s at serious risk out in the world without any common sense.

And then there's this beaut:

“How can I possibly have great sex with my best friend and still keep him as my best friend? I know at first, I was completely skeptical, but I cannot help but ask myself why we had not flipped a coin on sex before."

How about because that's not normal. It's not like you finally download a banking app for your phone and it’s so much easier and you think to yourself "Why didn't I do this sooner?!"

And finally, this is not New Adult. It just isn’t. She’s a successful 25-year-old realtor. How is that new adult? It’s like the author found out new adult was big right now and called it that without knowing what it really is. It’s false advertising. It’s a romance, plain and simple, and a bad one at that.

This book is absolutely amazing! It is a fun, fresh and fantastic read. Megan's character is loveable, and her best friend Ben is sooo sexy that he makes me wish I had a male best friend of my own to fall in love with! When their relationship changes from cute and flirty to hot and intense I couldn’t take my eyes off the pages. Megan's dilemma over what she wants and her feelings for Ben are so real and so easy to relate to. Not to mention that their groups of friends are hilarious and brought me back to my twenties when it seemed like the good times were never ending. Needless to say I loved this book and can't wait to read it again and again and again!

I liked this book , it was a fun sexy read .

Megan is the maid of honor for her best friend Jessica's wedding in Costa Rica. The night before she meets her best friend Ben for drinks where everything changes with just a coin toss. They end up sleeping together, and Megan is a wreck the next morning , thinking it was the worse mistake ever.

Ben Swoon worthy for sure just by his looks ... you could tell he had true feelings for Megan as the book went on, but he did not tell her right away.

Through out the book you see and discover more, and more how fit Ben and Megan are for each other and you root for them to end up together.

Jessica, ok I understand the nerves with getting married, but jesus I wanted to smack her more then I liked her lol.

Stephanie OMG her attitude I did not like her at all till the end hahahah.

The rest of the Characters I liked , They were funny, and went well with the story line .

LOVE LOVE LOVE!!!!

*Amanda Cowen, you ROCK!*

BETWEEN FRIENDS was an addictive read ! The story picked up momentum and never once faltered in its awesomeness. Cowen has done an amazing job in wavering between the lines of friendship and love through the sexy bad-boy best friend meets the innocent and loyal good-girl—and made this novel into something cute, flirty, sexy, unique and genuine.

After drunkenly sleeping with Ben over a flip of a coin, Megan immediately regrets her decision the next morning when they both board a plane to Costa Rica to attend their high maintenance friend Jessica's wedding. But what Megan doesn't expect is to start developing feelings for the one guy she really shouldn't - and obliges to be set up with Jessica's older cousin Steven while they are away on their trip. But neither Ben or Megan can forget that night which turns the story into a roller coaster of emotions and I loved it!!

Megan and Ben have a smoldering connection that becomes evident instantly. The sexual tension is like no other—and the steam factor is just unbelievable yet tasteful! Cowen's scenes are fun and fresh, wonderfully descriptive and uncontrollably toe curling!

The plot is full of laughs, warmth, sexiness, and heart wrenching moments that made an interesting and surprisingly refreshing story.

This is a very sweet and sexy read!

I liked the writing, however other than Megan and Ben, I hated everyone.
her girls were immature, snotty, and rude.

Even with my distaste of all supporting cast, I really enjoyed the book, and the author's writing.

I was in the mood for a quick light love story to change the pace of some the books I have been reading, and this one didn't dissapoint. I read this within a day and really liked it.

This is the story of Megan and Ben. They have been best friends since high school. On the night before going to Costa Rica for a wedding of two mutual friends, they end up sleeping together. Things then turn awkward and complicated when they start a secret relationship and are unsure of each other's feelings. Megan's character started okay but halfway thru she really got on my nerves. Ben's character I really liked.

Overall, a cute, fun, light read.

Could drunken actions equal to sober wants?

Dead pan and dry sense of humor; having fathers who cheated on their mother; ate pickles for breakfast and loves spicy foods; both preferred bare feet to socks; despised Halloween and dressing up in ridiculous costumes.

The list might go on and on but those are just the things that Ben and Megan have in common. But what if they suddenly cross the line between being friends into lovers in a night of drunken haze, would it be another conquest for them or a sign that there might be something more?

---

It’s a universal story that boy-girl type of friendship often leads into a relationship but once you cross the line of being friends into something more there's no turning back to that. Ben and Megan's situation is nothing new - they’re long time friends who end up one night in bed together. As I go along with reading it, I might have already an idea how stories like this might end but since Megan and Ben are full of sweet and adorbs moments going through their story has been a very easy task.

Though a bit whiny, Megan is under a dilemma of having crossing the #1 rule for men and woman friendship code so I do understand her BUT what I don’t understand is her being unable to stand by her own decisions especially to the presence of her so-called best friends. I was under the impression that she simply let her friends rule her – which is a very not good attitude for a heroine. Ben is such a sweetheart. If what he does for Megan is done by every guy just to win a woman's heart - I'm ready! He never did deny his feelings for her its just that he omitted the fact that he did harbor feelings for his best friend.

Since that certain M&M’s incident on how these two met, I know their chemistry is undeniable. I also like that there is a process of acceptance for the feelings they both have for each other. I like the idea that after they’ve done the deed they didn’t jump off into a relationship at once. There are a lot more complications within it before they reach their little happiness.

My favorite part of the story though are the snippets from their past - those snippets that gives us a hint that even before their first hook-up that Ben is already harboring feelings for Megan - though Megan is oblivious to it because she sees nothing far too abnormal for how Ben acted.

The only thing that left me pretty much disappointed is the presence of those so-called supporting characters or the 3 little bitchy friends of Megan. I honestly didn’t see any kind of friendship between them, what kind of friends put their friends to complete and utter shame?

In all, 'twas another quick and likeable and adorable read.

Between Friends was fun, sexy and one great read! As a reader who loves New Adult novels, this was definitely one of those books that people will either love the characters and their personalities or dislike what was going to happen. I thought the story was very clever and was full of love between the characters. There was some grammar, but it was easy to over look. Amanda Cowen has created a good addictive read for all readers who are interested in this new genre!I did wish there was more stories of Megan's friends, because we did not get to see what they were like.

The main character Megan is the maid of honor for her best friend Jessica's wedding in Costa Rica. The night before she meets her best friend Ben for drinks where everything changes with just a coin toss. I though Megan was a bit whiny through some of the situations with what was happening with Ben. What I liked about him was that he was honest with Megan at the same time you get to see what he wants to be with Megan from the beginning of the book. Megan thought it would ruin their relationship as friends with the complication with sex, but as you read the book, they are really perfect for each other. I did like Cowen writing but at times it did have some repetitive words in the beginning of the novel.

Overall, Between Friends was a really quick read for me since I did like it! The chemistry between Ben and Megan were both funny during the preparations for Jessica's wedding to the most sweetest thing he could do to win her heart! The ending was adorable because I was totally routing for these characters! Definitely check this book out if you love romance, tropical setting and friends crossing the line to relationship.

So I liked the premise of the story. Megan and Ben are best friends who have known each other 10+ years. Friends turned lovers always makes for an interesting read. No insta love here, it has been cultivated over the years of knowing each other.

After their coin toss, their friendship becomes complicated. Ben has been sleeping with every woman in sight prior to their night together and Megan has a hard time getting past this. She is afraid she is just another conquest to Ben and doesn't want to get hurt. They are not quick to divulge their true feelings to each other. In the end, she realizes you have to make yourself vulnerable and risk losing everything to gain...everything. Loved Megan and Ben together. Really just loved Ben and how cute he was with Megan.

BUT. I hated almost all of the secondary characters. Jessica is a raving bitch. OMG!!! I was waiting for Megan to stand up for herself for crying out loud!!! At one point in the story Jessica gets mad at Megan for something Ben does and instructs all the rest of the friends not to talk to Megan. !!!! After all she had done as her maid of honor basically everyone at the wedding shuns Megan the next day. These are grown people we're talking about, not 6th graders. Jessica was so conceited and bossy and I really just wanted to slap the shit out of her.

The way Megan let her friends walk all over her without standing up for herself is what took away from this story for me. I needed to see more growth in her character.

This book had potential with such a swoon worthy male lead, but the female lead and the secondary characters were not strong enough to pull it off. 2.5 stars for me...

I only got to 45% read on my Kindle and had to abandon the book before I tried to hurt myself!

The story is as old as the hills - if you've read the blurb on Amazon/the back cover you know the deal. Nothing wrong with that, I like a little light-hearted chick-lit with a New Adult bias but this was JUST so badly written I could cry.

A few choice examples from my Kindle (got to love the bookmark and notes feature)

"I let him run his fingers in my warm insides" - does that sound to you like he has his hands in her entrails?

"I wake up to a thin line of the golden sun hindering on the horizon" - nope, I have absolutely no idea what she means either.

"I wish I could blurt out my secret about Ben and get it off my chest. But of course I withhold under better judgement" - sorry, lost me again.

"He pulls me up from my lounger, and I say goodbye to the girls with a guilty conscious" - conscience anyone?

"I feel completely mortified and worrisome, so I casullay pull away and feel obligated to announce..." - she put in a lot of big words there but not many made much sense.

There are also several instances of using "peak" when she means "peek".

But, my absolute favourite, the one which made me throw in the towel, was this classic "I don't move when he slips his hands inside me" - his hands? Forgive my crudeness but how big is her vagina?

Added to this I didn't find any of the characters endearing, likeable or plausible.

This bookie was like was a damn rollercoaster of emotions, I mean Ben is just oo-la-la, "I love how his tight whit V-neck t-shirt clings to his muscular chest and how his five o'clock shadow is growing in perfectly on his tanned skin." See oo-la-la. With all the sexual frustration going on between Megan and Ben it's well frustrating, "f*** Megan. I can't take it anymore." When they're getting along they're perfect for one another, "his hands move up to my hips, "I want whatever you want." He kisses my cheek then adds, "But right now what I really want is to f*** you - again." Sometimes I wonder if they're relationship is just based on sex. I mean there are a few scenes when Megan's claws come out because Ben is well an a** most of the time, "You are a pig!" I shout. "At least I dated people and had boyfriends. You on the other hand can't handle more than a one-night stand. I feel sorry for any girl who has fallen victim to your sleazy cham, including myself." Ben is also a possessive sort, "holy s*** Megan you taste so good." He pants and pulls away, "Now come here. I'm gonna f*** what's mine." I mean Megan when she's pissed she's pissed, "Oh, you never wanted to hurt me?" I let out a hard bitter laugh. "You never thought about how much you were hurting me every time you slept with another one of your bimbos or whores. You never thought anything about me then." I actually really liked this book.

I was looking for something new and easy to read, and this book did not disappoint. I loved the idea of a friends to lovers story and this one hit all the marks on the head. Megan is a quiet naive and sometimes a push over kind of girl who is secretly infatuated with her male best friend. But after a flip of a coin they end up sleeping together, but Megan pushes him away because she is scared of ruining their friendship. The group of friends in this story added comic relief to this book, and my god, some of the things that came out of the bride's mouth made me laugh out loud! What a B-word! I would recommend this book if you want a unique read that will have you hating the characters in one breath and falling in love with the story in another!

Megan is Jessica's maid of honour and the year planning is coming to an end as the wedding is happening in Costa Rica this week.

Ben and Megan are best friends and have been for years and years, doing crazy things together - always together.

The problem is the night before they fly out as the wedding party Ben and Megan end up sleeping together ... what the hell has Megan done - Ben sleeps with many girls, treating them badly, has she just become another notch on the bedstead?

Situations become "interesting" in Costa Rica with Ben and Megan sneaking around continuing the sexual relationship trying to avoid their friends and Megan dare not reject Jessica's cousin that she has been set up with!

Predictable but fun read!

I liked it, I really did. It was a great friends to love story. The only thing that I absolutely hated about this book was the friends. Selfish, self entered and treated the main female character like garbage. I'm not even sure a real person would keep friends like here's. it also bothered me that she let them treat her so badly and make fun of her. It's okay to be dorky and shy but you shouldn't have to put up with abuse because of those qualities. Other then that I was happy with the ending but would have loved an epilogue. I like to have a final conclusion but I know that's not how it always works out.

I like romance fiction of the “When Harry Met Sally” sub-genre because love based on friendship is always worth reading about.

Amanda Cowen’s “Between Friends” is no exception. Megan and Ben had a solid friendship going on over the years, and when they finally had sex on a dare, their simple friendship became complicated, very complicated, and the “he-loves-me, he-loves-me-not” scenarios packed lots of entertainment in the chapters that follow.

In such books, there’s always a third party to stir up trouble and spice things up, so the entertainment factor remained high. Simple plot, great writing, funny and likeable characters. A great and cozy couch read.

REALLY enjoyed this book. Although, Megan was a bit aggravating. I wanted to jump into this book and thump her upside the head. If she would just open her mouth and speak the truth, it would have been a bit easier. Ben is delicious! You have to love him. He was so sweet and romantic. If Megan would have paid one bit of attention she would have noticed how much he cared. The supporting characters were just wonderful too. I think I loved Eric. Steven was sweet too. The story was a very good tale of taking friendship to a whole new level.

The author of this book is a high school friend of mine, so I was excited to read it. I've never read a straight romance before (I'd read paranormal romance and such), so I didn't know what to expect. Between Friends was a cute, fun story that featured some surprisingly naughty moments that will now cause me to look at the author differently whenever I see her at the daycare our kids both attend lol.

I freaking loved this book. I could not put it down. Loved Ben and Megan! I laughed a lot in this book. It was sweet, hot, and romantic. I wanted to slap a few people. Definitely like Ms. Cowen's writing style. Will absolutely read something else by her! This was a great distraction from my usual paranormal read. Definitely recommend it!

I have got to learn how to put gifs in, like my GR friends. But for now :D
