Quinn's first eighteen years hasn't been easy; first her mother was killed in a car accident when she was a baby, next her father was murdered and his body discovered with unexplained bite marks. Finally, her evil step-mother takes her sister away leaving her alone in a massive house.
Three months later she starts her senior year, and she meets a new guy named Kaden Webb. He is dangerous, and she is drawn to him. Quinn's best friend Breanna, doesn’t like him and pushes her to their long time crush, Justin Keto.
After Quinn gets nominated for homecoming queen, she finds herself between Justin and Kaden. But Justin is the one to ask her to the dance, and she says yes.
Quinn finds out that she isn’t what she thought she was, she is a pure blooded werewolf, and is meant to lead the pack with Justin by her side. Both of the boys have to move in with her because she put Kaden under her protection and she is under Justin’s. Quinn wonders if she will lose her mind living with two jealous werewolves that are both in love with her.
Khelsey hails from the Sunshine State (California) but moved to Minnesota when she was 11 years old. Her grandmother raised her and her brother. When she was 18 she did what any sane teen would do and moved to the city of sin, Las Vegas NV. There she met her handsome husband and the rest is history. She loves to read, and will read almost anything guess when you have read just about everything, the only next logical step is to write
I don't really feel right rating this because I didn't finish it... but ugh.
Alright first off, I love werewolves. I love beauty and the beast. I was fucking in love with the idea of this story. I made it to 18% wondering why i was still doing this. I hate giving bad reviews, I really do. So i am going to try my best not to be an ass about this because I think that this writer has a lot of potential, I think this book has a lot of potential but God if i wasn't ready to kill almost every single character. Also the writing style was getting a little on my nerves... a lot... sorry!
So first off i don't really like third person in the first place, mostly because of the reason right here, if it isn't done subtly and yeah then it sort of falls flat. Now this kind of made me feel like it started out in first person and maybe the author decided it might work better as third but third and first are totally different things and you can't go in, change the "i"s to "Blah Blah Blahs" or in this case "Quinn"s. Maybe its because i have a ranging headache that i am not giving this book enough of a chance but the third person in this book was so i don't know predominant that it could not be ignored and was really pulling me out of the story. With that said...usually i am not one for critiquing the grammar cause my own grammar sucks, but when you have a repeated paragraph and at this point i thought I was going insane, and even a girl with dyslexia can pick up on wrong words, and what nots please review that you write... i am sorry, but "warn arm..." a whole paragraph was written twice...
Alright onto the characters. They are very surface at this point. When i say surface i mean you are telling me all about them which is fine and dandy but you aren't showing them to me. you aren't making them real, and giving them emotions, while not saying Quinn is happy, show me that she is happy, her lips twitched into a smile that she had long forgotten to do, something like that you know. It was again very surface for me. Kaden was reminding me far too much for my liking of Edward Cullen, and Jake was blah. sorry but i wasn't getting much from him besides him being an entitled ass, and i did not like him from moment one. i liked Kaden for a bit, but then he started on the whole, we can't be together, i am not good for you, i am dangerous stuff and i just wanted to kick him where the sun don't shine.
Now with that said, i think that this has a very interesting plot, i would like to find out what happens in the end but i don't know if i can do this. Like i said before i think this story has a lot of potential and i think that the author has a lot of potential but this book, not for me. Sorry.
The Beast and the Home Coming Queen By Khelsey Jackson
I have finished reading The Beast and the Home Coming Queen. It gripped me from the beginning and I didn't want to stop. I love this story. The story was literally holding onto me and I had to keep reading until I had finished it. When I realized that Quinn was surrounded by all these wolves her entire life and didn't know it I found myself getting pulled into the story deeper and deeper. I never figured out who killed her father until it was revealed. I so want to know what happens to her mother. I loved Kaden and liked Justin. I have to admit I got tears when I realized that one of the characters was going to die. This story is going to be loved by young romantics everywhere and women like myself that can't resist a wonderful YA story with Wolves.
Khelsey gives Quinn a strong female personality creating a character that is not afraid to stand on her own. I like that in a book especially for teen girls, so many stories have the girl so codependent on the guy. I could see that Quinn liked having the guys in her life but she isn’t lost in them. Her reaction to the death in the story makes her character so real. It shows what a strong individual Quinn is when she moves on from it. I give this five stars believe me.
Okay can you say AMAZING??? This book was so awesome and I couldn't put it down. I just got this book about four hours ago and was having a great time reading it. I couldn't stop my goofy smile that appeared on my face the whole time I was reading.
Quinn Murphy was just an ordinary 18 year old girl when she got home to find her father murdered. After that day she felt as if she has lost a part of herself. She couldn't eat, couldn't sleep, and lost not only her father that day, but her sister Lizzy when her stepmother took her away. Now alone and in her senior year, Quinn is nervous about entering school with everyone looking at her and telling her how sorry they were about her father. Just when it seems like everything is taking a turn for the worse, Kaden enters her life. With his long hair and his piercing blue eyes, Quinn starts to feel a weird connection to him. A pull she cannot ignore. But then her high school crush, Justin, starts to notice her. Suddenly Quinn has two guys looking for her affection and who seek to own her heart. When secrets, lies, and the truth comes out, Quinn will have to decide where her heart really is. Can Quinn move on from her father's death and find happiness and peace? Will she pick Justin, the school Quarterback or the mysterious Kaden? And will she ever find out the secret her father died for?
Love, love, love, this book. It had an amazing twist that I never saw coming. I hope that author is happy making me cry!! It was that good! Especially the ending, that I never saw coming! There were moments in the books that made me laugh so much I thought my face was going to crack. It was simply brilliant and I enjoyed every minute of reading it!! I look forward to reading more from this author. Only question I have is, is there going to be a book 2? I so hope so! I recommend this book to everyone.
Some of my favorite quotes from the book:
“In our fairy tale, I'm not the prince charming of your dreams, I am the beast of your nightmares.”
“You have alpha submitting to you.”
“Thank you for breakfast, Kade.” She says and bats her eyes. Where in the world did her little sister learn to flirt?
Quinn laughs. “You are scared of a girl?” “Hell yes!” Quinn laughs again. “Glad to know you enjoy my pain.”
“I love you Quinn to the moon and back.” “I love you Justin, to Neptune and back.”
This book "The Beast and the Homecoming Queen" by Khelsey Jackson is worth way more than 5 stars. The book started off with action and ended with action and tears. The author told me I was going to be mad at her towards the end and she's right. I could not keep the tears out of my eyes. My family was looking at me. There were lots of smiles, too! Quinn, the young lady in this story comes home to find her dad dead. Then her world starts to fall apart. Her stepmom leaves and takes Lizzy, her little sister, with her. Leaving Quinn alone in the house. Her best friend, Breanna, is always there for her. Quinn stays in the house for the summer. She doesn't want to see anyone. Then it's time for school to start. Things are going good. She has her best friend and that's all she needs. Till she sees the new boy, Kaden, she can't keep her eyes off him. Her heart starts to speed up. she feels herself smile for the first time in a long time. There is something different about him. Justin, the boy she had a crush on the last three years, asked her to the dance. Things start getting weird. She starts to feel weird. Nothing she can do to stop what is happening right in front of her eyes. Quinn has loved and lost, made friends and killed enemies. She is still expected to be Queen for her new family. Breanna is still Quinn's best friend. Thank you, Khelsey, for allowing me to be apart of your world.
I liked this story, I do love shifters in any shape or form. I love the 2 to 1 ratio here, how many woman can say they have two men at their feet? Quinn is a very strong girl, although she hasn’t quite realized it yet. Kaden and Justin both pull at her heart but it’s Justin that wins it. The boys both help her to get over her father’s death, and to start feeling like her house is a home again. I am not going to say any more because I don’t want to give anything away. Now, there are quite a few misspelled words in this book, I don’t tend to let them take away from my enjoyment of the story, was easy to read through them, but it may put some people off. I liked the story and I am hoping that If Ms. Jackson continues this story, we will find out even more about the characters. I would definitely read another book in this series, Ms. Jackson does have a storytelling knack. Thanks for giving me this book to read and review!!
This book has an excellent premise and could be a good book. The characters are likable, yet underdeveloped. They need to be fleshed out. The ebook that I read had never seen an editor. Spelling errors, word usage errors, grammar mistakes and sentence repeats abound in this book. Teenagers don't really talk like that. They also don't automatically act like adults without adult supervision.
The main character is likable, but the story shifts view points often and makes it difficult to follow. Many times while reading this book I asked myself why I was continuing to read it because it was so badly written. I began to hate the character because some of her actions seemed outside the realm of how she would really act. However the plot was sufficient that I wanted to find out what happened next.
Thankfully the book was free when I got it. Call me a sucker for a free book. I got what I paid for.
Pissed off! That's how this one left me. I had started to like it in the beginning since it had Kaden in all that mysterious and dangerous light. Just when I had become Team Kaden since he was being exactly what I wanted enters Justin. Though I didnt like him much in the beginning he did grow on me. A LOT. I'm sure by now you know whose side I'm on. But my wavering feelings for Kaden & Justin pissed me off just as much as Quinn did. It seemed she just couldn't be with the other without hurting him. I'm not saying it was intentional. Anyway when she finds out her true nature she just up and believes it. No questions asked. I found that really not being my cup of tea you know? Plus it had too much of grammer mistakes. It annoyed me a lot. The ending also did not sit well with me. Yep my favourite guy was killed off. ( Yea now I'm giving the evil eye) though it was hinted he might make a comeback in the sequel. But still sadly overall I didn’t like this one as much as I thought I would.
I really liked the story in this book but found the characters kind of shallow. It isn't that they weren't good characters but you really never quite felt them the way you would think you would. There were quite a few errors in the copy I had but I try not to base my ratings on that as it is the story itself I want to rate but it is worth mentioning so that the Author knows that there are things that need fixing for the next edition. This is a great weekend romance read for those who like Werewolves and shapeshifting. But go into the story with an open mind knowing it is pure fictional as there are definitely some unrealistic situations that the characters find themselves in. That being said I will look for #2 as I would like to see how this story unfolds.
This book had a good idea to start, but it didn't flesh out.
The story felt a bit rushed, there were quite a few editing issues (swapped words, wrong words used, missing words, and confusion in some of the descriptions).
I got confused on which guys she wanted, which one wanted her, who was the 'mate' and who wasn't.
However, I think that IF a professional editor and BETA team worked with the author, this could grow into a more cohesive and enjoyable Young Adult book. I hope that a publisher or someone find this diamond in the rough and helps her shine.
This was an amazing, heart pounding read. I think I love werewolves even more now!
Quinn is a confused, heart-broken girl, who is trying to get ahead in life. Justin is a charming typical high school boy, but with a few secrets. And Kaden enters. Who is my personal favourite.
Queue an action packed YA drama, with trials, tribulations, love, heart break, witty one-liners, and the huge potential for more. Which I will patiently wait for.
I really loved this book. Quinn is a really great girl and I wish that her dad hadn't been killed and that she had been told about her heritage.
The love triangle is the thing I didn't like all that much and she didn't end up with the person I wanted her to. The ending was a very big surprise. I was glad that I took the time to read this book and didn't pass it by.
The author did a wonderful job and I will be looking for more books written by her.
1. poorly written. 2. lots of typographical errors. 3. the last names of the characters keeps on switching. 4. they killed JUSTIN! 5. and she doesn't end up with Kaden either. 6. she ends up with Shade. (a character I haven't heard of until the last 10 pages) 7. very confusing. 8. didn't reached my expectations.
I wish I could give this more than five stars... This is one emotional book! I love Justin, Kaden and Jax.. Three new book boyfriends :D! Hats off to Khelsey Jackson what an amazing story and I can't wait to see what's next for Quinn and the gang!
Great plot and the book is good but this book has so many mistakes. I hope that one day the author will go back and fix this so people can enjoy it fully.
There is potential in the story but it had so many mistakes that I wanted to stop reading quite often, but if you can overlook those errors then the book will be entertaining.
The plot was interesting, but the annoying characters(all of them) and the odd writing style( very odd indeed) made this book almost impossible to finish
I liked the story alright, even though there wasn't much depth to it. Plus I got this version free on Kindle, and there were A LOT of errors in the copy, which were sometimes hard to look past.
