Violet longs to break free of her good-girl persona. House sitting a Dallas penthouse loft makes a great start. From her first giddy step in her friend’s sky-high heels, she’s way out of her comfort zone, planting a tipsy kiss on a sexy neighbor.
Eddie is in town to close a business deal—and lick his wounds after a bad breakup. But the clumsy, drawling redhead next door proves a Texas-sized distraction he can’t ignore. Violet’s demure one minute and suggesting clandestine sexcapades the next. Eddie can barely keep up. Or wait to see what Violet does next.
But even when she learns he’s held the key to the future of her family’s business all along, Violet can’t go back to playing it safe. And what began as a champagne-fueled dare becomes a gutsy showdown her heart might not survive.
Like most storytellers, Sally Felt is an adventurer at heart. Six foot tall and insatiably curious, Sally has spent the night in some odd places—in a hammock, on a riverboat, in a convent and in a whorehouse. She’s waded barefoot in the Mississippi and swum in the Amazon.
Her formative teen years included a student exchange to Middle Earth (aka, New Zealand) and a summer working as a chore girl on a dude ranch.
These days, Sally makes wishes on the new moon, refuses to dye her silver hair, enjoys fine sipping tequila and hopes to inherit her mother’s laugh. She’s also a decent Wii bowler.
Just reading the first few pages brightened up my day. In Dallas two girls are best friends, but Violet spends most of her life in her family's publishing house with a tiny, cramped office, while lively model Giselle is about to take off for a few weeks in Rio. Violet can't take up the offer of the trip, but she does offer to care for Giselle's small dog. Then Giselle suggests Violet could house-sit her loft in a trendy enclave, and make free with the elegant walk-in closet. Wow!
GOING NATIVE, Sensible Violet contrasts with the new Party Girl Violet, and all the single men seem very attractive in this enclave. Next day Violet's short elegant suit and pink heels earn her the glare of her staid aunt, but her uncle spots the potential. He asks the girl to show around a lawyer working for a potential investor. That lawyer happens to be Eddie... He can't believe his good luck with Texan ladies, but he knows something about the printing firm that Violet doesn't.
Dallas is described with as much care for neighbourhoods as we normally only see in tales about New York, with top-class food and a gay pickup restaurant to counter Eddie's old-fashioned views of the city. There are downsides to Giselle's lavish existence, which Violet only becomes aware of after spending some time in the loft and picking up her friend's messages.
For a lively, swift-moving adult romance try GOING NATIVE by Sally Felt, I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.
Housesitting Violet Maison gets a chance to step outside of her normal behavior and sample life as a siren. On a dare she approached Eddie Frazier with a sensual kiss, Eddie would love nothing more but to satisfy the lust inside but the tipsy red-head is not thinking clearly to make that type of choice. When they bump into each other again, they act on their desire but Violet is not the type of woman for a brief affair and Eddie is not willing to put his heart on the line again after a bad breakup.
