Sur l'interprétation des rêves

Rate this book

Carl Gustav Jung (/jʊŋ/; German: [ˈkarl ˈɡʊstaf jʊŋ]), often referred to as C. G. Jung, was a Swiss psychiatrist and psychotherapist who founded analytical psychology. Jung proposed and developed the concepts of extraversion and introversion; archetypes, and the collective unconscious. His work has been influential in psychiatry and in the study of religion, philosophy, archeology, anthropology, literature, and related fields. He was a prolific writer, many of whose works were not published until after his death.

The central concept of analytical psychology is individuation—the psychological process of integrating the opposites, including the conscious with the unconscious, while still maintaining their relative autonomy. Jung considered individuation to be the central process of human development.

Jung created some of the best known psychological concepts, including the archetype, the collective unconscious, the complex, and synchronicity. The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI), a popular psychometric instrument, has been developed from Jung's theory of psychological types.

Though he was a practising clinician and considered himself to be a scientist, much of his life's work was spent exploring tangential areas such as Eastern and Western philosophy, alchemy, astrology, and sociology, as well as literature and the arts. Jung's interest in philosophy and the occult led many to view him as a mystic, although his ambition was to be seen as a man of science. His influence on popular psychology, the "psychologization of religion", spirituality and the New Age movement has been immense.

To książka o religii, mitologii, filozofii Wschodu i Zachodu, baśniach, symbolach.

During those seminars Jung presented a few intricate dreams of one particular patient of his. He, as usual, explained their meanings through myths, archetypes and daily occurrences of his patient. Quite a read but you may get lost if you have not fully or partially grasped his concepts and have a slight background in mythological stories.

A not so hard to understand take on how our medicine won't save people with internal conflicts but psychoanalysis by looking deeper into our unconscious mind, and trying to interpret it and its actions.
Commentary on Freud's view on dream interpretation.

A textbook in practice.. fantastic! Although.. it is an actual brick of a book so prepare to spend quite some time working through it.

Since the publication of The Collected Works various supplementary volumes have been issued by Princeton University Press which I've picked up as they've become available. This one is based on a series of seminars given from 1928 to 1930 and first multigraphed by the Psychology Club in Zurich in 1938. Later it was privately printed, both in 1958 and in 1972. Frankly, I find most of these seminar transcripts rather boring. Jung was never a very systematic thinker and representations in print of his speech are often very rambling--or, as they say, "associative."

This book is like being in the room with Jung while he works with a patient, learning by watching his process unfold. The seminar was given to a group who already had some familiarity with his teachings, so I wouldn't recommend it as a starting place. But if you already work with your dreams or the dreams of others, it's a fascinating way to expand your understanding.

The book is basically the transcriptions from C.G Jung's talks. It gets frustrating at times as Jung keeps going back and forth to the topics he'd mentioned. However it's a good source to learn about Jung's explanations of symbolism in various traditions.

Great if you're interested in dreams -- but start with Ann Faraday or someone a little easier to comprehend :-)
