Samantha Stevens is a beautifully curvy plus size woman with a thriving business, a feisty grandmother and a self esteem issue since her husband left her for a stick figure supermodel. Ithiel is the angel of death. He's spent his entire existence on earth collecting souls to cross over to either Heaven or Hell depending on how they spent their lives. Patricia Stevens is a feisty old woman who knows her days are numbered especially when Ithiel starts hanging around. She worries that Sam won't survive her death and begs Ithiel to watch over her. Reluctantly, Ithiel agrees. When her grandmother passes away, Sam is more than distraught. She's completely devastated and heartbroken. On the verge of despair, she finds herself wrapped in the arms of the most beautiful man she's ever seen but when his secret is revealed and her life is on the line will she have the courage to sacrifice herself for love or will she walk away from the one man in her life who truly loves her?
Samantha's grandmother is terminally ill and her time in this mortal world is nearly up. Her grandmother is at peace with this and ready to go when the time comes. Ithiel is the Angel of Death, helping people make the transition from life to death and into heaven or hell, and he is helping Samantha's grandmother.
Patricia's only concern about dying is her grand daughter. She wants Sam to be happy and find a man she can love and knows that Sam will take her death hard. She begs Ithiel to look after Sam when she is gone. Ithiel is reluctant as he has never revealed himself to a human who is not dying before. But when he sees Sam in her grandmother's room, he feels an instant connection to her.
When Patricia's time comes to an end, Ithiel gives Sam the greatest gift of all - the chance to say goodbye. It is Ithiel that supports her through her grief and helps her start living.
As they become closer and a relationship develops between them, Ithiel knows that he must reveal his true self to her. Sam's issue is not that he is an angel but that she feels that he is with her out of pity. Sam is insecure about herself after she found her ex-husband in bed with a blonde, stick thin model. Who wouldn't feel insecure after that!?!
Sam and Ithiel are meant to be together but with Sam's insecurity, a betrayal by a fellow angel, and decisions around mortality or immortality to make, will they find their Happy Ever After?
This book touched me personally. I have a very strong belief in angels and heaven after watching my own mum die from a terminal illness a few years ago. The images that Charlie Daye created matched my own expectations of angels and what heaven looks like. It brings comfort to those that have loved and lost. The issue of grief is only a part of the book but it is dealt with in a sensitive way and is the part that touched me the most.
The second part of the book deals with the decisions that Sam and Ithiel have to make to if they want to be together. Love doesn't have boundaries. Do they choose mortality and live out their lives together? Or do they choose an eternity together?
What strikes me most about Sam is the overwhelming compassion she feels for other people and this becomes particularly evident later in the book. For Ithiel it is his selflessness - putting Sam's needs first and will willingly give up everything to be with Sam.
This is a book that kept me thinking long after I finished it and has left me wanting more Angel Stories!
this was a great story. I love how the two main characters came together and how her grandmother was involved. I am really close to my grandma and parts of the story at the beginning sounded like our relationship. I couldn't put my kindle down and stayed up to one in the morning on a work night. I will be reading more of this series.
This is one of the best Angel stories I've read and can't wait for the next in the series. It had me crying, laughing, fanning myself and saying aww isn't that sweet.
It's a fast paced easy read, and of course all of the angels are gorgeous. The way the author describes each one makes them easy to visualize, yet she leaves enough open so that you can fill in the gaps.
omg what can I say but WOW! At first it was so sad it brought tears to my eyes. It was an emotional roller coaster. Then it kind of dragged a little but then took off and I was completely blown away. It was a beautiful book and I want to read more about Raziel, Gabriel, Raphael, and Michael. Keeping my fingers crossed that they get their own stories.
I very much enjoyed reading Her Last Request. sometimes you have to stop and think....are there really Angels walking on Earth? If so, why do they not show themselves? I really get into paranormal and supernatural subjects. I am waiting for Raziel's Redemption to come out.
Her Last Request is probably one of the best Angel books I have ever read. I could not put the book down, forgetting to eat or sleep. From the very beginning to the last page I was enthralled. Now I am looking forward to the next in the series. Wonderful read, beautifully written. Rose Cerbo
