What happens if you fall in love with a killer? Jack Lockwood, psychologist/criminal profiler and writer falls in love with Lucy Green, whom he later has reason to believe may be the child-killer, Megan Foster. Megan was held in custody aged eight, in 1982, and released ten years later with a new identity. Simultaneously, Jack is being targeted by a gangster who does not want him to write his (unauthorised) biography. What’s more there’s a serial killer on the loose in historic Canterbury, someone christened called ‘the Bible Killer’, who targets women and kills them in a particularly gruesome manner. Is Lucy the Bible Killer? Jack has to find out, but the answers are far from simple. . .

Having worked as a freelance journalist for past 20 years (magazines, newspapers, mainly about DIY, building and travel), writing novels part-time and getting nowhere with the conventional route to getting published, decided to self publish Rock'n'Roll Suicide on Kindle - probably my 20th novel (I hope I've improved with each one). It's the first of a series featuring Jack Lockwood, a Behavioural Investigative Adviser (modern term for a criminal profiler) who also writes books about crime. He's a troubled man, having had psychiatric problems in the past, but he;s tough enough to take on the bad guys, and he never lets anyone down. He falls in love again and again, but he;s usually unlucky with women, though he always treats them well. Am now rewriting the next Jack Lockwood novel, where he falls in love with a woman he believes may have been a killer, and may still be one . . .

Jack Lockwood is a criminal profiler, a true crime author, and a man who manages to find trouble wherever he goes. Despite all his psychological training, his personal life is often a bit of a bumbling mess. This imperfection is a big part of what makes Jack such a lovable character.

One of the things I love about West's writing is his ability to paint me a picture. I live in the US and have never been to the UK, yet through West's words I can see the setting and immerse myself in the culture.

The plot here is intricate and moves along at a fast pace. There is a whole lot of action, along with a few great twists. This one kept me turning pages, despite my eyes begging to be closed.

** This is the second book in the Jack Lockwood series, with Rock'n'Roll Suicide being the first. While Doppelganger can easily be read as a stand-alone, I would recommend starting with the first book because it's too good to miss. **

I'd been wanting to read this book for ages because I really enjoyed the first book in the series, Rock'n'Roll Suicide. Although this is book 2 in a series, it is a totally different story, rather than a continuation, and can be read as an individual novel.

Jack Lockwood is probably the luckiest or unluckiest man on the planet (depending on how you look at it). He always manages to get himself into life-threatening situations, yet he always gets out alive! This is actually one of the most enjoyable things about the two books in this series, there is endless action and tension, and page-turning suspense.

In this book, Jack Lockwood finds himself falling in love with a woman, who it later turns out could have a very dark past. Or does she just look like the woman who could be a murderer? This is one of the mysteries Jack has to solve. Meanwhile, there is a contract on his life because of a book he is writing. We follow Jack as he tries to survive and also tries to find out who his new love interest actually is.

As a further twist, he meets another woman who falls head over heels in love with him. Which woman will he choose?

Another part of the storyline is the investigation into a spate of recent murders in Canterbury. The serial killer has been dubbed The Bible Killer. Could this serial killer be a bit closer to home than Jack first thinks?

Geoffrey West's writing is addictive and I'm very happy to have discovered such a talented author. I'm looking forward to book 3.

If you like traditional crime fiction you'll love this book.

This was an excellent read, with believable, fallible characters, who make mistakes, who take risks, and who discover that the person they love is not who they think they are.
Well written, and a good tale about what does happen to those people who are given a new identity.

A wonderful crime novel.

I must state that I am not a big reader of crime fiction but I thoroughly enjoyed this good-paced novel.

The characters evolve nicely as you read and the story flows. A book I can recommend.

I began by reading the last book in the series. Each book stands alone and can be read in any order. I loved "Doppelgänger" as much as the others. Jack Lockwood is a unique character that engages the reader. Exciting plot with lots of mystery!

Having read West’s previous book, Rock’n’Roll Suicide, I’d been looking forward to reading this and whilst you can sometimes be left feeling disappointed by a sequel I certainly wasn’t with this one. A strapline on the front cover intriguingly reads, ‘What happens if you fall in love with a killer?’ and this hints at the troubles that are chasing Jack Lockwood through this action packed story though it is never as simple as him just having one issue to deal with.

Lockwood is a very likeable, attractive though modest character who writes books on themes disliked by police and criminals alike as well as also being a criminal profiler and therefore finding himself working alongside and against the same. This well written story starts with Lockwood being threatened about a book he’s writing then he’s involved in an accident in his home city of Canterbury bringing him to the attention of the police who already have their hands full dealing with a serial killer. Lockwood goes to the hospital to visit the woman he hits and its there that he fatefully meets Lucy Green. There’s plenty of thrilling action for Lockwood, who proves himself more than capable of looking after himself as well as others, when a contract is taken out on him.

Despite having a tough exterior Lockwood is a sensitive guy and having fallen in love has many emotional issues to deal with when his suspicions are raised about Lucy’s background and he seems naively indecisive about his choices in women generally while I really didn’t like my flawed hero, who just sees the good in everyone, being messed about. I won’t give anything away but we meet many characters in different settings throughout this story and each is beautifully described as West’s words bring the scenes and settings vividly alive. I didn’t want it to end, always a good sign, and I hope there are to be more Jack Lockwood stories to follow from this entertaining and skilful author.

A thrilling ride!

It's another wild ride for Jack Lockwood, a Behavioral Investigative Adviser, a BIA—also known as a criminal profiler, a psychologist who’s called in to assist police in various circumstances. He is also an author of true crime novels. Doppelganger is book two of the Jack Lockwood Mystery series. I'd read book one, Rock ‘n' Roll Suicide, and knew I just had to read more from Author, Geoffrey West.

Doppelganger starts with bang, literally, when a woman runs out of the woods and directly into the path of Jack's moving vehicle. Unable to stop in time, the impact throws her over the hood of his car. From there, the book takes off like a bullet when Jack finds himself being stalked by contract killers, hired by a crime boss who wants Jack to stop publication of his latest true crime novel, Hero or Villain?, which in itself leads to a BIG mystery. Then Jack falls in love, but could the woman he finally gives his heart to, be a killer?

All I can say is that it’s a page-turner and you’ll have to read the book to find out.

As, with Rock N' Roll Suicide, Doppelganger pacts a lot of action between pages and with each page West ratchets up the tension, tighter and tighter. The characters and scenes come alive with such vividness, that you’ll feel thrown into all the action and danger of each scene.

There are lots of twists and turns, which is a signature of this author and more red herrings than in a well-stocked pond. All of which will keep you guessing until the very end. I can assure you that if you enjoy mystery, murder and romance with high-octane action— Doppelganger is the book to read!

Doppelganger by Geoffrey West is the second novel in the Jack Lockwood series but it can also be enjoyed as a standalone read. From the very first page, West grabs the reader and takes us on a compelling journey of mysterious twists and turns before giving us a rather satisfying albeit not predictable ending.

The novel sees Jack Lockwood, Behavioural Investigative Advisor and successful true crime author, mired in a world of serial killers and vicious gangsters. The story, whilst being a fun, exciting yarn, also raises important, philosophical questions such, as are people capable of change and are some crimes so heinous they should never be forgiven? The plot is both clever and intriguing and the reader is never sure which direction events might take next.

For me though, the heart of the story is Jack Lockwood in whom West has created a believable, flawed and thoroughly engaging character. He is a lovable mix of unyielding toughness and naive gentleness. Jack wants nothing more than to settle down with the girl of his dreams and sees every woman as his potential life partner. There is lots of ironic humour when we see the other characters far more realistically than Jack does and we have to wait for him to catch up.

Despite his fatal flaw of an overly optimistic belief in people, especially women, Jack has a shrewd awareness of human behaviour. My favourite thing about Jack is when he acknowledges the failings of the human race but likes us anyway. This I think is down to West’s own observational humour and his skill as a writer which allows him to create a world which is exciting, believable and best of all utterly entertaining.

World-weary Jack Lockwood is an occasional psychological profiler for the UK police force. He's also a True Crime non-fiction author with a successful series of books behind him. His exposé of corrupt police officers in one book has soured his relationship with the local force so that he's excluded from the investigation when a serial killer, dubbed the Bible Killer by the press, begins to stalk the streets in his town. Meanwhile, Jack is trying to complete an unauthorised biography of a gangster who does not want the book published. He's put out a contract on Jack's life. But why is this hoodlum so angry? In Jack's view there's nothing controversial in his book. Is he missing something important? Then he inadvertently saves the life of one of the Bible Killer's victims. Through that action he meets a woman and falls hopelessly in love with her. Soon the suspicion gnaws at him that she was once the notorious child killer Megan Foster, now grown up and living under a new identity. And when devastating evidence surfaces that she could also be the Bible Killer, his life spirals out of control...

Jack Lockwood is a tough, straightforward, likeable character, an expert in his professional capacity, but too close to his own emotional turmoil to make the right decisions. His struggles to stay alive and reveal the identity of the Bible Killer make compelling reading in this thrilling mystery from Geoffrey David West.

This book is all you could want from a crime thriller and I have spent the best part of a day happily glued to its pages.

Jack Lockwood is a fabulous character. A criminal profiler and true crime writer, he acts on hunches and instincts but like every fallible human, he doesn't always get it bang on first time. A good investigator of the facts, he chases down information and makes a nuisance of himself with the police, who aren't his greatest allies. Nothing seems to really faze him, whether he is being hunted down by gangland criminals who want him dead or finding out the woman he loves may not be what she seems. He always keeps going no matter what the personal cost. I think this character is very unsure of what love should be about as he seems a little confused when it comes to matters of the heart but, in a way, it makes his personality very real and engaging.

I love the fast paced flow of this novel, although there is a lot going on the author has a knack of keeping you fully informed. The writing is clear, descriptive and crisp with a satisfying ending and enough twists and turns to keep you guessing and also to lead you down the wrong path until you reach that 'A-ha!' moment and realise you have been had. At least I was at one point and not in the most obvious way! I also liked the references to real life events, such as speculating the circumstances surrounding the death of Princess Diana. Naughty but plausible...

I bought this because I am interested in anything with the words 'serial killer' in the title or blurb, although I don't read many books of the crime thriller fiction genre as I am not very interested in the to-ing and fro-ing and 'Yes, but it could have meant...' stuff when it comes to solving the crime, so I have little with which to measure this book. However, I DO love watching this sort of thing on television, and I must say I was very pleased to find that none of the results that arose throughout the second half of the book were predictable, none at all. I love it when I can't guess 'whodunnit', or, indeed, even the outcome of the romantic interest! This book had several layers to it, several mysteries, which made it more interesting.

The story flowed well, was intelligently and professionally written and had no boring bits or the superfluous detail found in some 'indie' books; everything was relevant to the plot. Who will it appeal to? I'd say those of you who like to watch the sort of traditional crime detective type stuff on British television - Morse, Lewis, Blue Murder, that sort of thing. Jack Lockwood is not the macho, rugged hero I'd expected, either; he's actually quite sensitive and 'new man' for a crime solving writer hero character, so perhaps lovers of Jonathan Creek will like it, too!

Doppleganger is the second Jack Lockwood novel, and, like the first, is a fast paced action thriller.

This time Jack seems to have fallen in love, but if he expects it all to run smoothly then he is going to be disappointed.

A serial killer is on the loose, and at the same time a crime Tzar is after his head; maybe he shouldn’t have written that book after all.

The action flips from Canterbury to the depths of Wales as he struggles to find the answers to his questions, but someone is always one step ahead of him. Who?

Trying to untangle the various threads leads him down a road he doesn’t want to take, a suspicion, a feeling, and before he knows it he is embroiled in something from his worst nightmare. Can he resolve it in time to save his life? Has he kept things too close for his own comfort and safety?

The plot is well thought out and the story cracks along at a fast pace, the characters are well drawn and show their frailties as well as their strengths. The Chandler style narrative is guaranteed to keep you reading, and from the first page ‘til the last it will keep you on the edge of your seat.

Congratulations to Geoffrey West for producing another first rate page turner, one that will keep you guessing right up until the end.

I have now read both of the Jack Lockwood mysteries; I really enjoyed Rock’n’Roll Suicide but Doppelganger is even better. The plot is full of intrigue from start to finish and moves along at such a brisk pace. Jack Lockwood is a man of intelligence, a criminal profiler and an author, but he is not a dynamic hero; rather more an ordinary everyman who sometimes stumbles into dangerous situations and survives more through luck than judgement. This is what endears him to me and makes the story so real. The plot has some great twists from the start when Jack knocks down a woman in his car only to discover she was fleeing the clutches of a serial killer known as the Bible Killer. From that point Jack seems to antagonise everyone he meets, specifically the police and a local gangster on whom he is determined to publish an unauthorised biography. Through it all Jack falls in love but there is something mysterious about his girlfriend - could she be a notorious child killer now holding a new identity? Or could she hold the key to the identity of the Bible Killer?

Very well written and will keep you guessing and gripped to the end.

This is the second Jack Lockwood book I've read and it is just as compulsive as the first. Likeable, mild mannered Jack writes books about real crime and real criminals which makes him the target for some very nasty and unsavoury characters who don't want their secrets revealed. If his duck and dive adventure with these individuals isn't enough, he becomes hopelessly embroiled with a girl who is not everything she seems - or is she? This question and the horrific series of crimes around which the mystery hovers leads Jack into even more nail biting and cliff-hanging situations. Cleverly crafted, Geoffrey West keeps the reader on tenterhooks till the end to find out whether the object of his affections is or isn't what he believes or wants to believe. There are as many twists and turns in Doppelanger as you can take in a Landrover in a remote Welsh mountain hideaway, and in negotiating them, Jack learns a few truths about himself along the way. This book is another irresistible page turner and one to drive you to insomnia if you don't already have it. I'm really really looking forward to the next in the series.

This is the second book in a series of Jack Lockwood Mysteries. I read the first book, The Rock n Roll Suicides, which was brilliant, but the beauty of these books is they can be read as stand alone books as well.
Jack Lockwood is a criminal profiler who also writes books on the subject of true crime. However, his relationship with the police is sometimes a rocky one and he finds himself in some very nasty scrapes that take some explaining. The plot is complex, with twists at every turn, but I'm not giving anything away here, only to say that this is a beautifully written thriller, well thought out, and will draw you in from the start. Thoroughly recommended, this author tells a great story, and i cant wait for the next book.

Jack Lockwood, a True Crime non-fiction author and psychologist/criminal profiler falls in love at first sight with Lucy Green. He feels like he has seen her before but does not know where until he finds her picture in a book his friend wrote. She looks exactly like child-killer, Megan Foster. He struggles to find out if she is Megan Foster or her Doppelganger.

This is the second Jack Lockwood book. I have not read the first one but this book stands on it's own. Good book, good premise.
