A história é incrível, devo dizer... Carissa passa por algo bem complicado em sua vida, tendo que se esconder de um homem horrível, tá para elogio... Porém ela tem um segredo que é tudo para ela, seu filho, que foi concebido em uma noite de engano, um homem que se passou por seu noivo, mas que no final das contas a salvou do pior destino de sua vida... Anos se passam até ela encontrar ele novamente, e ter seu mundo virado de cabeça para baixo, pois com o passar do tempo ela se apaixona por ele, mesmo após tudo o que aconteceu...
Maximus é um homem em exilio pelo Imperador, e após anos ele finalmente encontra algo que é mais importante que sair do exilio. Tudo para ele muda ao conhecer uma mulher e seu filho, e aos poucos ele vai percebendo que eles são tudo para ele, e que o segredo dela esta ligado a vida dele.
A história é linda, o homem horrível tem o final merecido, e claro o Imperador ganhou meu coração quando fez o que era necessário para o bem de Maximus e Carissa.. 🤣🤣 Não podemos esquecer que o pai dela e o filho são uma maravilha, pois sempre ao lado dela...

Maximus is an excellent read, and an awesome start to this series. I would recommend everyone who likes historical novel to READ this!! Maximus and Carissa have tons of chemistry, humor and caring between them. I absolutely loved them both & didn't want the book to end! The plot is interesting, well written and surprising. I read it in a day. The setting is unique, and the overall dynamics between them as a couple is intriguing. The writing gives you a flavor for the historical setting without ever taking away from the story. The author keeps the relationship moving, and her overall style is refreshing, and interesting, so that you don't want to put the book down once you start it.This is a quality, must read. And I loved it!!! Can NOT wait for more!!

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Lovely, fiesty Carissa and irresistible Maximus spar off each other in true gladiatorial fashion while little Caius strives to bring them together much to Carissa's annoyance. Secrets and old wounds simmer throughout as the author combines a clever plot of revenge and redemption with a steamy romance. The historical content is not heavy handed allowing an accurate depiction of Roman culture to filter naturally throughout the story. I'll definitely look for more by the same author. In fact I've just found the next one, Taurus, and can't wait to read it.

This was a quick read, taking the reader back to an era I love to read and write about. The flavour of Ancient Rome is there, although the detail is light. The premise of a lengthy exile for Maximus, banned by the emperor of Rome, is an interesting one. That he must come to terms with his past, and fight to earn the love of Carissa, is balanced by the friendly relationship that develops between Maximus and her son. Does Carissa really hate her new neighbour? She does have some cause, I think!
