PI Lucy Maddox, former thief, liar, and have-not, has worked hard to rise above her past as a runaway and now uses her survival skills in a more honest way. Yet when the reporter responsible for getting her off the streets goes missing, Lucy risks her respectability to find her.
Unfortunately, Jack Finnegan, life-long nemesis and royal PITA, catches Lucy in the act of stealing proof that Jack’s employer is involved in her friend’s disappearance. Jack believes, like everyone else, the missing reporter is on an undercover assignment and isn't checking in for obvious reasons. He’s not about to let Lucy’s lies and innuendos ruin his employer’s good name.
Jack joins forces with Lucy, mainly to prove her wrong and to keep an eye on her. The chase leads to a ring of high school girls whose behavior could only be characterized as bullying. Then things get crazy, starting with a harrowing near-miss that’s just too coincidental to be accidental. Plus, they’re being followed.
As Jack and Lucy are drawn deeper into a mystery that’s a cross between cozy and edgy, both struggle to keep their emotions in check. And when they uncover the truth about the games the cruel girls were playing, Jack and Lucy realize they have fallen victim to Deadly Misconceptions.
Sandy Loyd is a Western girl through and through. Born and raised in Salt Lake City, she's worked and lived in some fabulous places in the US,including South Florida. She now resides in Kentucky and writes full time. As much as she loves her current hometown, she misses the mountains and has to go back to her roots to get her mountain fix at least once a year.
She spent her single years in San Francisco and considers that city one of America's treasures, comparable to no other city in the world. Her California Series, starting out with Winter Interlude, are all set in the Bay Area. Her series consists of fun, heartwarming stories about crazy friends who, like single people everywhere, are seeking that someone special to share their lives with among thousands of eligible candidates.
For someone who supposedly lived on the streets Lucy was an idiot. Saying she can trust anyone but relies on her “partner” who was showing OBVIOUS signs of being the bad guy!! I guess I can’t really complain. It was a freebie.
This book was easily liked from the beginning. Humorous at times with Lucy's personality but mostly suspense with a good twist. I don't understand how some readers claim the murderer was predictable and easily guessed when for one, they didn't leave any hints or cause suspicion. The culprit never acted out of character other than minor jealousy which was excusable given the circumstances. There was nothing that stood out that could have raised suspicion that they were the murderer or involved with them. Id personally call it more of a wild guess that ended up being correct because there was nothing to back up that claim in knowing who was behind it all until the end. It jumped from one suspect to the next and I feel Sandy is discredited as a good author when people claim the mystery was "easily guessed" when there is a lot of thought and effort that goes into these books. Not everyone can write a decent book especially one that involves mystery or has a vast knowledge of different subjects and careers. Another good twist and the romance between Lucy and Jack was well done but in this book I think the spotlight was on the mystery.
I was looking forward to reading this book because I love a good mystery. I was drawn in to the story of Lucy from the streets now a PI looking for her missing best friend. I am 59% into this book and a good 45% is nothing but Lucy and Jack thinking on and on about having sex with each other. It is getting really old reading the same thing over and over every time these two are together and they are together throughout most of this book. The story of the missing friend and the people involved has been almost non-existent and that part of the story is the interesting part.
I am not sure that I will get through this book. I am having a very hard time staying with it which is to bad. It could have been a really good book if the author would have stayed more with the missing woman and what happened to her instead of just sex.
Lucy Maddox has left her life of lying and thievery behind to become a PI - until she needs those skills to find a friend who's missing. In comes Jack Finnegan, attorney and campaign manager for a politico Lucy suspects is involved in the disappearance.
It wasn't a BAD book, but for some reason it just seemed never-ending. The sparks between Lucy and Jack went on and on, the lack of trust went on as long, but the core story line was good enough to keep me plodding along to finish. Definitely more of a 'romantic' than suspense, which (for me who prefers it the opposite) was too bad.
If you're one of those who prefer the romance to the crime, then you'll like this one. I probably will hold off on any more in the series.
I loved the banter between Lucy and Jack, very funny at times and also very sad. These two characters were bound by a past together, that definitely brought out the mistrust in each other. Neither wanting to let go of that past, for fear they would in turn be hurt. Emotional by all means with Lucy being on her own at such a young age and not getting the help she needed, to Jack that could not see what help was needed at that time. Now depending on each other to keep the past ghosts from causing any more tragedy, they laugh, love, trust, and deny all they can until there is nothing else but to deal with it all, and stop the past from ruining the future. I give this a 4 star rating.
This book started off well. Totally pulled me in and grabbed my interest right away...and that's about the only positive thing I can say. The plot was very slow moving and there were very few action scenes, the ones it did have were not written well so they felt choppy and rushed. I would've liked to see more development and time put in to the writing of this. I think the concept and overall plotline were good but this could've been executed much better. Readers interested in this genre crave a faster paced, more thrilling read than what this book offered.
Romance and mystery throughout this book that will keep you involved and not wanting to pause for any length of time. A suspense story that keeps you intrigued right to the end Highly recommend.
I enjoyed Deadly Misconceptions. Lucy & Jack have a past and are forced to join forces to find her missing friend. The book was suspenseful, dramatic, and engaging.
