Leaving California and the ruins of a love affair, 21-year-old Taylor Reed heads north hoping to revive a dried out soul in rainy Bellingham, Washington. Intent on burying the past, Taylor determines to keep busy in the present. This includes following in her mother's footsteps (whether she likes it or not), a part-time job learning the art of the perfect latte from a sharp-tongued barista, and volunteer hours at an animal shelter. At the shelter, Taylor meets a savagely wounded mare whose strength and grace mysteriously touch her own damaged spirit, reawakening old ghosts and inviting new healing. With the help of friends - including a handsome veterinarian with saving hands - Taylor discovers second changes are found in unlikely places and that, against all odds, love restores a broken heart.
Catherine Madera's writing shines again in this touching novel. Lots of gorgeous description, tight dialogue, and real-world grit. The story of two wounded souls (a young woman and a mare) who impact each other in a powerful way. Highly recommended!
I enjoyed this book. A young women who was raised by her mother, her gay father left the marriage, has a secret that is eating her up. Her over bearing mother tries to make her a Real Estate sales person. She rebels. And volunteers at an animal shelter where she meets Raid. A white horse shot in the head and left for dead. An exceptional Vet saved her life and she goes home with this young women. They have quite a story to tell. Secrets can destroy us if we let them. It is also a love story with the Vet and a very large German shepherd. This story reflects very much what is being reported in todays media.
I am a horse fanatic! I love horses so this book was right up my ally. But this book is the best "horse" book I've ever read. I highly recommend this book if you want a good story as well as a lot of "horse information. I'm sorry that I finished the book as I could have read this one forever!
A beautifully written, poignant story about a young women whose life is permanently altered by the decision to have an abortion. Her journey towards healing begins when she moves near her mother and adopts a horse who had been shot in the head and left to die. The author artistically weaves a tale of how a soul can heal with the love of friends, the trust of a horse, and God's mercy and grace.
This book was a hard read for me.I enjoyed the parts about rain the horse and got emotionasl when she was shot and left for dead and then she found a loving home. Not to much into the life of her owner though..
No means Black Beauty, but a pleasant little story...characters likable and storyline okay. Easy reading and decent dialogue...A good little book if you're a train commuter.
